Welcome to
Almost Home Dachshund Rescue
Society (AHDRS). Thanks for stopping by!
We are a network of independent rescue volunteers who
work together to rescue abandoned, abused, and/or
unwanted dachshunds. We provide medical and behavioral
care for them and place them in loving and appropriate
homes. AHDRS is a nonprofit organization, so all
contributions are tax-deductible. To learn more about AHDRS, click here.
Almost Home Dachshund
Rescue Society is not affiliated with any other rescue
group, transport service or pet-related business using
"Almost Home" in its name. A number of all-breed
rescue groups, founded after the formation of AHDRS,
now use "Almost Home" in their names, and some of
their Web site addresses are similar to ours. Other
businesses have also formed since that time using
“Almost Home” in their names and web addresses. AHDRS
is an independent national dachshund rescue
organization founded in 2001 and is comprised entirely
of volunteers dedicated to fostering and fundraising
to help our beloved breed. |

Meet
Patti Phillips! A Texas gal at heart, she currently resides with her husband,
Travis, in Western North Carolina where she has been actively involved in rescue
for the past 10 years. Also a full-time veterinary technician at a local
shelter, Patti spends her days and nights caring for animals that were
abandoned, given up on or born without homes of their own. Specializing in
rehabilitating dachshunds with aggression issues, Patti has made quite a name
for herself in the rescue community. If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting

IN MEMORY OF AUTHOR JACK MAGESTRO
The world of dachshund lovers lost a very dear friend and rescue advocate this
year when longtime Wisconsin educator, soccer coach, columnist, publisher,
author and devoted husband of 18 years, Jack Magestro, died suddenly in August
2009 at the young age of 55.
Jack was best known nationally for his irresistably entertaining three-book
series, "Redstripe," "Another Redstripe, Please," and "Redstripe's Inn," which
were inspired by he and his beloved wife's travels to Jamaica with their
cherished little dachshund, Belle. Jack and his wife, Jill Coy-Magestro, loved
vacationing together-- always in the company of their Belle, and they had
recently purchased an RV; looking forward to new adventures together. Sadly,
Jill lost both Belle and Jack within a few months of each other.
If you haven't had the pleasure of reading the "Redstripe" series, please
The members of Almost Home Dachshund Rescue sincerely thank the Magestros for
their tireless efforts to promote the wonderful characteristics and
personalities of the dachshund breed and for helping many, many dachshunds
through rescue.
