During the summer months I start with a shedding blade, then move to the Furminator deShedding tool. My dog is only 34 pounds, but his undercoat has an undercoat, which has an undercoat of its own. He's a Husky / German Spitz / Spaniel mix (mostly Spitz, thus the size). I can shed him for hours and still pull hair off of him. While this tool doesn't make short work of the job, it Does keep the hair together so I don't have to chase poofs around the yard. I also like the fact that it trims the undercoat so when the weather is confused he still has some insulation against the cold.It's an easy tool to use and while it does have a little bit of drag to it Momo doesn't seem to be bothered one bit. When I go over the same area for too long he'll shift his weight and that's when I know I was a little overzealous and it's time to move to a new section. The tool is especially nice for his mantle. It leaves the top hair long and pretty while thinning out the fluffy stuff underneath.
I had no clue what was under the surface of my dogs coat! My pit bulls dogs both have short-coarse hair and you really wouldn’t even think that it was a lot until they start seasonally shedding and their is HAIR EVERYWHERE!!! I have a 60 pound white boxer with short fur that sticks to and in everything. It really pours off of him like a waterfall anytime someone goes in for pets. I'm honestly surprised he's not bald with the rate he loses fur. I'll admit that I rarely brush him to begin with, so I am convinced that any sort of regular brushing would have been effective in managing his fur waterfall. But, I do believe the Furminator does a great job in getting the undercoat, especially at this time of year (late spring/early summer). The Furminator has changed by brushing habits for two reasons- 1. My dog seems to love it, and I can tell the daily brushings are effective. We collect less fur each day. 2. The guilt I have over spending $35 on a comb forces me to use it, thus establishing effective grooming habits. It has been the only tool that has caused me to stick to a routine. Solid brush, very well built, effective for short haired dogs, the click-to-cleanout feature is great. My Labrador had stitches in her front leg right on the ankle joint so it was at high risk of infection as very close to the bone. I was hoping this would negate the need for the huge buster collar however, she would still lick at it through the sleeve and make it wet therefore increasing the risk of infection to the wound. She therefore still had to wear the buster collar as well as the sleeve to stop her licking it. Within a couple of days, there was a hole in the material of the sleeve and since then, a further tear has developed, so the quality of the material is not that good. She has also worked out how to get her leg out of it so all in all, it hasn’t been that great! That said, I would still recommend using one as it was better than not having the wound covered at all but for me, it didn’t negate the need for a buster collar unfortunately.Julieann
1 Very happy owner and one calm snoring Dog. He`s been at the top of his leg the last few days and licked it raw . No socks long enough and a long sleeved T shirt was not a success . Ordered this sleeve out of desperation . Money well spent ….. came in a flash and as soon as I put it on he seemed really excited and happy, running round barking the way he does before we go a walk. Now he`s sleeping and not looked at his leg once. Its made of a sweatshirt type fabric , the leg size is more important than body girth as there is lots of Velcro and poppers so easy to adjust so it fits comfortably , I`m glad I did not go for the XL as his chest measurement was borderline the L fits perfectly. This product is a lifesaver! Tried soo many different things for a skin tag on my pup's back leg. Its just on the other side of his hock, so bandages limited his mobility and he ended up pulling most of them off. He’s 11 and has never had a cone in his life. This is comfortable for him and actually gives him some stability. He has not tried to pull it off once and his skin tag is finally healing. My Doberman Pinscher "Harry" had broken his front right "pinky toe" bone rough housing. My vet Took care of him with a specially made splint and wrap. They suggested I get this splint which would eliminate all the gauze wrap etc. He wore it for three days and started walking normally. Well after about the fifth day, Harry would have it on just going out for walks. By weeks end, it's back in it's original packaging and mailing envelope. Probably won't need it again but just in case, keep it in his medical box. Nice product. The extra padding I purchased, I used a little bit to make a slot for his carpel to slide down into. This is so the carpel didn't get squashed between his leg and the splint. He seems to be doing fine now, back to chasing squirrels in the trails.Alden
The product is very well made and easy to put on. It does not work for my dog because he has no feeling in his leg. I bought it to use as a splint for his foot contracture. He cannot walk with this on because it is too cumbersome for his leg. I use it on him as a resting splint when he is laying down and resting.Nancy H.
