My 12 year old Yorkie suddenly starting losing the contents of her bladder during the night. The vet suggested checking for a UTI. I did some research and found that not only would that be expensive and require a course of antibiotics, many people found that the dog's UTI would come right back after they were done. My dog went a few days with excessive "goop" from his eyes. Since my dog hasn't had a history with this, and doesn't seem to have seasonal allergies, the vet suggested an antimicrobial for the eye irritation and I went with this ophthalmic gel based on the luck I've had with other Vetericyn products in the past. I started with a tiny drop on the corner of my dog's eye to be sure he wouldn't have any reaction to it. Later that day, I went ahead and applied a few drops in each of his eyes. I applied the gel two times a day for three days in a row and by the fourth day his eyes had stopped having discharge. It is almost like my dog knew the drops would make him feel better as he kept his head very still when I applied the gel to his eyes. The shape of the dispenser where you squeeze the product out of makes it very easy to apply the gel to their eyes. While it is a "gel," it comes out of the dispenser fairly quickly which I find allows for an accurate application. The gel-like substance is great to confirm that you got the gel where you want it to go. Went out one morning and caught a glimpse of what looked like a little scratch on my horses eye. Upon inspection the eye itself was untouched but the eyelid was cut about an inch long from the back corner towards the front. I cleaned it and figured I would just leave it alone. This got the greyhound to eating after a bout of canine flu. She had lost so much weight and was very weak from not eating. She is typically an iffy eater. If she over heats (which is almost every day in triple digit NM summers) she stops eating. If she goes two days without eating, she is reluctant to eat even if she feels okay. We have discovered that the right dose for her (@35lb) is to place a finger over the open top of the bottle and tip the bottle over and back upright. The amount remaining on the end of the finger is then rubbed on her lips so she can lick it off. Once is usually enough, sometimes a second similar "dose" is needed. This keeps her from throwing it up and/or foaming. Usually within the hour she will start back eating. If not, she gets a second dose.Galgo Owner

When the Rx arrived, I ripped it out of the packaging and gave her a dose immediately…and she has been eating very well ever since! My *only* complaint is that the numbers on the little syringe were already starting to wear off, and they are crucial for correct dosing (therefore, 4 stars instead of 5). This is the only thing that will get our dog to eat non-human food. We tried close to 20 different types of food including me cooking at home and she rejected them all. Don't know how she survived on the streets before we got her but this helped her go up to a normal body weight and now we don't have to sit in front of her food and beg her to eat anymore. The dosing is quite high so I suggest everyone to start low. We are supposed to be at .8mL per day for our dog but were on 0.1mL for a long time and now 0.2mL for a total of 2 years. She doesn't really seem to be needing to get a higher dose or building up a tolerance. I can't imagine what 0.8mL would do to her (she would have probably gone crazy).Camm

My Lurcher Heidi had to have a mammary tumour removed. She was terrified wearing an Elizabethan collar. So I got her a Buster collar but being long nosed Sighthound and with a flexable neck she could reach her stitches. The "Suitical" vest I got her from D forDog was absoulutley amazing. Comfy, stretchy and easy to wash and dry. It covered the area allowing healing . For toileting I just un-did the press studs and took her back legs out of the garment and rolled the Suitical back to her shoulders. My adopted beagle had seizure the second day after we brought her home. She was one year old then. We thought it was due to the new environment. Clinic vet prescribe her with only some relaxant medication and vitamins. She continues to have seizure once every few weeks. Till a serious episode in the middle of the night one day made us to bring her to the animal hospital. A thorough check by the vet and after few follow-up check diagnosed her with genetic liver dysfunction and also genetic epilepsy. Her liver reading was far exceeding the normal range. Denosyl had helped to keep her liver at normal range with her seizure medication that is not good for her liver . She is put on long term Denosyl, a pill a day before her l/d diet. She is healthy and active after 2 years now. All of us are happy with this cutie pie at home!
We inherited my mother-in-law's 16-or-so year old cat. He had a history of throwing up but her vet couldn't find anything wrong. After we'd had him for a while he started throwing up more, stopped eating, and became lethargic. Our vet diagnosed liver failure and was not optimistic, but recommended denosyl, which doesn't require a prescription and is relatively cheap. Ever since the cat's been on denosyl, he's been eating like a horse and is much more lively than his age would suggest. I'd recommend this for anyone whose pet has liver problems. It seems to work best when the cat hasn't eaten for at least 4 hours (preferably more) before we give it, then don't feed him for at least an hour after. The use intructions are vague, just a couple of sentences, no pictorial diagrams, no photos. Even the two steps (vaguely) described on the Out! website are unhelpful. So, some pointers for prospectve purchasers: 1) Measure your dogs belly, and if the measurement is within two inches of the max fit listed on the package, go to the next larger size as the pads do not stretch length-wise; 2) Unroll the pad, free-up the sticky tab at one end, flatten the other end, because these are not already unstuck nor flat right out of the package; 3) Unfold the edges away from the pad, otherwise the absorbent edges will not be sealed against the dog belly; 4) With the abdorbent pad down, press the entire length and the edges onto a CLEAN flat surface (tabletop, counter top, etc.), keep applying pressure until the pad and edges no longer roll up. Sounds complicated but it really is not, it is just tedious. After two or three times you will get the hang of it.Sonny

I put my two dogs on PROTECT but can't say what its actual effects were. With just one jar, my 6 mo. old French bulldog's slight gas increased immediately. He could clear out a room. MY 8-yr. old Amstaff/Basenji mix with rib bone cancer began eating dirt and eventually developed severe pancreatitis he's still recovering from. Since taking both dogs off PROTECT, the puppy's gas has diminished. Perhaps if we continued longer I'd know for sure but that's not an option, given the severe pancreatitis which almost took my dog. I'm on the second tub of Protect and just ordered a third. We had a scare with our 14+ Aussie who developed acute G.I. issues (for the first time ever) after a recent lar par surgery. Bear had to take so many post surgery meds and began to decline rapidly. I hated giving him all those meds but felt that we had no choice. We needed something more than his usual probiotic to balance him. Along with Protect, I added raw goat kefir, SAME and b12 to his diet. Two months later, he seems stabilized with good looking poops :)). He also developed reflux although some homeopathic remedies have reduced the frequency. Wish Four Leaf Rover had a product for that. Max was 1 year old when we adopted him and I realized he had digestive/gut issues. His foster home was feeding him cheap dry food so I gradually switched him to high quality raw food and his condition improved but, he still had occasional mucus and blood and test's didn't show any parasites or infection. Our vet just wanted to keep Max on antibiotics & antacids, and put him on Hills prescription food that contains corn and other junk. I refused the prescription food and tried a round of antibiotics and antacid for Max and he still had problems. I researched probiotics and tried several, his problems improved but they didn't totally clear up. I eventually found DN products and put Max on Gut Guard and his digestive issues completely healed.
