I felt a bit defeated when it came to fighting the tarter buildup on my dogs teeth. I wanted to purchase an effective and safe holistic product to keep their gums and teeth healthy. I found Healthy Gums and purchased it. I swirl each q-tip into 2 drops of the solution then gently swab each of my yorkies teeth and gums once a day. ( I am going to purchase the sponge swabs for dogs teeth as well) I noticed a difference in the tarter buildup lessening significantly after only 1 weeks daily usage especially in the rear teeth which are harder to get clean! My cat has had stomatitis for years and traditional vet medicine has not done much for him. I decided to try the Healthy Gums drops for his painful gums that one steroid a day kept mainly under control although there were always flareups. From the first time I applied the drops, it was like I had a new cat who was frisky, wanting to play, eating like a horse, going outside, climbing up the cat post. I don’t know whether the drops are healing his gums but they are certainly keeping him pain free as far as I can tell. I start with a new vet who practises holistic as well as traditional medicine on June 3 so I will see what else she will suggest. But the Healthy Gums product has been like a miracle. Especially when my former vet got mad at me when I told her I wanted to try Healthy Gums and the probiotic and promptly told me my cat was the worst she had ever seen him. He is on the probiotic as well and seems to be regurgitating his food hardly at all. I also wanted it to help with his immune system to help with the stomatitis. I rarely give products 5 stars but this definitely deserves it! I have been using this on my does teeth on and off for a few months now, lately because of the results I noticed I am trying to be more consistent. I either just rub the gel on my teeth with my finger or when I have more time I brush his teeth which has been giving the best results with the gel. I bought wisps and took out the beads and use them as little toothbrush’s, they work amazing, since my dog has such a small mouth (Chihuahua). Where I noticed the major results was his back teeth, they were really starting to build up with a lot of plaque, very dark yellow. They are almost white right now!!! Every animal owner should be using this product! I wish I had known about this years ago before my poor baby had to have a bunch of teeth pulled. Highly highly recommend. This is great for cleaning up plaque from both my cat and dogs mouth after meals. However, I only gave it 4 stars because it tastes and smells strongly of mint. This isn’t something my pets are used too and if I had designed the product, I would have made it taste like nothing. Why nothing? Because it doesn’t smell like mint, so it’s not repulsive to pets, and nothing because it’s a medicine and you don’t want it tasting like or smelling like treats for safety reasons.Jennifer M

I bought this rinse to compare to another for my cat who got a cut on his gums. Although I'm sure it would be quite effective at helping with healing and disinfection, I found the tip rather unwieldy. The tip is rather large for fitting under a cat lip (although it might not be for a medium to large dog), and if your pet does not stay still, it is easy to accidentally squeeze the bottle too hard resulting in too large a quantity being squirted into your pet's mouth, which just increases the likelihood that your pet will not cooperate. It would probably work better if you have someone to help hold your pet, but on the plus side, it smells good.wildequusheart

Unfortunately this gave my dog really bad diarrhea and discomfort. I wasn't sure if this was what caused the diarrhea initially so I took her off this for a couple days and added it back into her water after she recovered, she proceeded to have diarrhea again the next day. I read before I bought this product, that some dogs don\'t like the water after you add this. So at first, my dog drank the water but then she stopped. She would come up, smell it and walk away. After a while, I switched to fresh water, without this product, and she drank so much so she was definitely thirsty but unwilling to drink. I can say that after using this for 2 days, her breath did smell good! So the product works! My dog sleeps with his mouth open like he has 3 jobs, but because of this additive to his water, his morning breath hasn't been too bad. We got this on Amazon for my two schnauzers and I brush their teeth with this every night. The toothbrush provided is meant for medium size dogs and for the back teeth. I use my finger and a little toothpaste for the front teeth as it’s harder to use the brush there. I use this for my pup and we've outgrown the little finger brush so we use just the toothbrush. Winston doesn't mind the gel and will actually try to lick it off the brush before it gets in his mouth. He probably thinks it's a treat or something! Have you brushed your dog's teeth lately? My review is on Vet's Best, Dental Gel Toothpaste. I know and understand just how important my dog's dental care really is. I haven't done such a good job on brushing their teeth. The starting point is to find a quality toothpaste for my dogs. After using, "Vet's Best" Nature's Health Care, Dental Gel Toothpaste, I think it is indeed, a quality toothpaste. The toothpaste's ingredients were formulated by a Veterinarian using a combination of natural ingredients. Those ingredients include Neem oil, baking soda, grapefruit seed extract, aloe and enzymes. My older dog hasn't had her teeth brushed in a good while. This will be the first time for my younger dog. I know it will take some time to get them use to this routine so, I plan to brush their teeth at least 2-3 times a week. Some dog owners brush their dog's teeth everyday. You will have to make that decision yourself. My older dog's gums bled a little more than I expected. Therefore, everyday is not a good idea for her until this bleeding stops. If you want to jeopardize your dog having seizures and kidney failure then use this product. Our 15 year old Dachshund drank this for a month and starting having seizures, muscle weakness, not eating, and the beginning stages of kidney failure. As soon as we took him off this water and gave him fresh water he has made a 100% turn around. Do not use this product! We almost lost our baby! Yes, I have proof. Our dog has suffered from stinky breath forever even though she gets her regular vet cleanings, and we were using another tooth treatment. She’s a beagle / shitzu / pug mix, so she is already genetically doomed in the tooth area anyway, so I’ve always been concerned with her dental health and worried about it leading to other health issues. When I saw this, I was skeptical she wouldn’t notice it in her water. With that beagle nose, she sniffs out even the best tricks I try to pull, but she hasn’t noticed it yet, and the vet recently commented on how amazing we are doing with her teeth. So I have some reservations about this product. If you search other reviews across the internet, you get insane reports about this potentially causing seizures /epileptic episodes, wasting away, eye problems, all kinds of crazy stuff. However, it also does have a fair amount of people preaching that it's legit. The potential side effects are SEVERE, and it doesn't seem like the brand has done much to mitigate those cases or fears?? Knowing all that, I chose to use this for my cat with extreme caution. He gets stinky breath from whenever he eats fish based products (extreme common for cats) but the reason why I'm willing to take any of those risks is because it honestly reminds me of Accutane. I've never had to use Accutane myself, but I know that 1) It's a last resort 2) It is practically guaranteed to work 3) Side effects range from IBS to infertility /severe birth defects. So… my cat's halitosis isn't that severe to illicit the full dose. I use roughly half to a third of the recommended amount in his water fountain (which I highly recommend getting if you don't have one). So at a very low dose, his bad breath has indeed been kept at bay and I monitor his status very closely. This product works, I just strongly recommend using the lowest effective dose (just like with any human medication) and if your pet's breath is so dang stanky you feel like they need the full dose, I highly recommend exhausting all your other options first / supplementing with proper hand toothbrushing / diet changes. This Plaque Gel works like your very best dream BUT you must be consistent in its use. I only use it for my dog – the cat uses a dry abrasive 20 minutes afer means. I also use a children's toothbrush to squish the Gel around.Susan

I really love this little spray for my dog’s not-so-fresh breath. She’s a little dachshund and they, like most little dogs, are known for having a terrible bacteria level in their saliva. This spray helps adjust that and my little pups breath does smell much better. I purchased this tube from Chewy.com for my Sheltie. I've been brushing his teeth since he came home as a baby, and he also gets Plaqueoff in his food. The breed is notorious for dental issues, so I'm hoping to keep things at bay by being proactive with his dental health. Petsmile interested me because I saw that this was the only toothpaste with the VOHC seal–so I opted to try it. He doesn't seem to be in love with the flavor, which I took a shot on, but it's not bothering his gums or his stomach. He has some tooth staining, which this paste hasn't really removed, but I have noticed some small bits of plaque on his smaller bottom teeth is now gone, by about half. I brush his teeth every night, so other than adding this paste into our routine, I'm inclined to think that's what finally dissolved that tartar. Yay! I wish Petsmile offered every flavor in a smaller tube, though, because even though this was pricey, it was still cheaper than the $25 standard tube. I also am keeping my fingers crossed for a vanilla or mint flavor will become available, because my boy loves vanilla so much. I currently use a USDA organic dog toothpaste, which is cinnamon flavored, but it doesn't have the VOHC seal, nor the enzyme technology. However, he loves that flavor! We have been using this toothpaste for about 6 months, after having to spend $$$+ on specialty dental care. They had a follow up exam this week, and got an A from their veterinarian dentist. He commented that he rarely sees actual improvement- but both of our senior dogs did improve “vastly” after 6 months of daily use. I ordered this months ago after checking the list of VOHC-approved dental products. I've always brushed my dogs teeth and, although this product is expensive, it's the only VOHC-approved toothpaste. I notice a difference in teeth cleanliness and am looking forward to the dogs next annual veterinary visit. The dogs might get a dental because all I can see is what's above the gum line, but if a visible inspection was the only criteria for a dental, my guys would not need one.
