I was on frontline for years but when I thought I saw a couple fleas on my dogs in September 2020, I decided to make a switch to Advantage II for my cats and Advantix II for my dogs— BIGGEST mistake of my life (seriously, like over any horrible exes). I have $515.97 in receipts I submitted to the company (which was as horrible as the experience, which I will get to) and spent an additional $70 in store (in which I cannot find the receipt) since September 2020 to December. I followed every tip on the website and insert and my animals were still covered. I applied perfectly. I applied initially weekly, vacuum daily, steam cleaned, wash bedding constantly, etc. I don’t even have carpet but on the stairs and have treated the stairs and couches with Predcor. I even bought those flea traps with the sticky bottoms. I am not including any of this in that total I spent– that was all on the flea medications themselves for the 6 animals. I have saved some, not all, of the vials so on 11/13 I called Elanco. They denied my request for any type of refund. They questioned my exact dosage dates and frequency more than a doctor wants to know about your menstrual cycles but I took my best guesses, for all 6 animals although I did know what schedule they were on but didn't have it in front of me. Then they said that the product was probably not working because I bathed my dogs initially at the beginning 48 hours before application?? Their website TELLS you to bathe them before application (see 2nd screenshot posted)! I stopped bathing them after the 2nd application as it wasn't working and the dogs were miserable and only tried 2 cats (and really only 1 successfully because we all know how that goes). They then told me that I didn't give the product long enough?? Their website states (see 3rd screenshot) and is the same for Advantage II "K9 Advantix® II kills fleas within 12 hours. New fleas that jump on the dog from the surroundings, such as grass, carpet and pet bedding, are killed within 2 hours with protection against further infestation for at least 4 weeks." I tried their products, $600 worth on 6 animals, as scheduled, no missed doses for 4 months. I can’t blame it on just one animal or one batch—it didn’t work on 6, or one batch! I am very upset. Not only have I wasted money on these but I have bought corresponding products, sprays for the beddings, flea traps, etc. I FINALLY called Terminex and had to spend 12 hours clearing out under my beds, closets, getting everything off my floors, moving furniture etc. (time I will never get back) and getting my children and pets out of the house and went back to the brand that works: FRONTLINE! NO MORE FLEAS– what I should have done in the first place. I am so upset not by the fact that the product didn't work but by the way the company handled it, dodging any responsibility from blaming it on the baths they recommend to the length of time I gave it when they could have just refunded me and had someone that isn't going to not only post this review every place I bought it (not just here) but every other place that allows a review to include social media.Intelhottie

We bought Advantix liquid application anti-flea and tick treatment because it is effective, was less expensive and did not require a prescription. We had easily and successfully used liquid Advantix for years with our Plott hound mix. We now have a beagle. Beagle hair is different; it's thick, coarse, oily, kind of water proof and difficult to part in order to properly apply the liquid to the skin. Advantix is a very good product, but pet owners may want to assess their pet's coat to determine how the liquid application could be applied.Gary

My dog was getting ticks so I purchased this. I have used it in the past with great success when it had the Bayer logo on it . The one I received has the Elanco brand logo on it. I used 1 bottle and It was like I used nothing at all. Mind you I walk my dog and when he comes in the house I would find 2 or 3 live ticks walking on him. So I figured ok maybe it didnt work or I didnt wait long enough. After about 10 days of this I applied another bottle and again nothing. He still kept coming in the house with ticks every time. So I'm not sure exactly what's going on but the package I received appeared to be authentic. All serial numbers matched and packages were sealed well. Don't really know what changes was done to the formula . But Advantage 2 works no where near as good as it as the original formula . My cat(s) for years have always been an inside cat & used it for years with great success. I recently adopted a cat & started using Adtg.2. A week to a week & a half is about tops before you start to see your cat start scratching again. Not good especially for what they charge for the stuff. Another example of "don't fix it if it ain't broke". But I guess the all mighty dollar took care of that. Next time I take my cat to the vet I'll ask about other options. I have been using this product on my dog since I adopted her at 4 mos. There were 2 months, when I moved to a new state and was unable to find this product locally (*and hadn't heard of 1800petmeds yet) when I used 2 other products – my dog had a serious skin sensitivity to one, and the other gave her diarrhea for almost the entire month. So I figured ok maybe it didnt work or I didnt wait long enough. After about 10 days of this I applied another bottle and again nothing. He still kept coming in the house with ticks every time. So I'm not sure exactly what's going on but the package I received appeared to be authentic. All serial numbers matched and packages were sealed well. Overall satisfaction level: good. No bad reactions from my chihuahuas. I use a syringe to dispense the correct dose for each size dog so the large size dog package is economical and lasts a good while. It seems to be fast acting but loses potency after a couple of weeks. I seem to recall other products lasting longer, maybe a whole month. I pour these tubes into a tiny glass vial. Then I use a needle-less syringe to draw up a cat-sized dose depending on the cat's weight. I apply it to my cats. I save a lot of money this way. Advantage 2 for dogs has exactly the same ingredients as the flea medicine for cats. (Do NOT do this with other brands of dog treatment. Always check labels first… and learn how much your own cat needs before applying it.) I've used Advantage 2 for many, many years. It has never failed my cats. They simply do not get fleas. I've never had a flea in my house. I treated my neighbor's flea-bitten dog last month. The poor creature was crawling with flea. After Advantage 2, the fleas were gone the next day. This product works great on dogs and cats, says no cats but it is the same ingredients as the dogs, have been using this for years on both. I buy the Large dog size and cut the tops off and pour in a old medicine vial then I use a 3cc syringe to suck it up. Cats I put about 1/2 a cc which is 1/2 of 1 cc . It does does not take much and use about this much on my little dogs too. Larger dogs I use about 2cc and NEVER DO THEY HAVE FLEAS and it last way longer. Advantix I use only on the dogs as this is not to be used on cats but use this when ticks are bad. Great Products to use.blonds05

This works well. It is non greasy and doesn't have a funky smell like some other topical flea meds. The problem with topical is that sometimes they stop working . Therefore you switch to the other brand . But so far I have not had to switch. It definitely works well and recommend to many people.deb.n

I am hesitant to use these types of products compulsively for preventive measures. Fortunately, We’ve not been in an area where fleas are out of control outside, as we have had problems in the past with other pets. These types of topical medicines would only be effective for a maximum of 1 1/2 to 2 weeks at best. And then our previous dog, and coincidentally our cat also, developed tumors where these types of medicines were being applied. I can’t say for certain that they were the cause. But it’s very suspicious that it happened in both animals. The dog we noticed first. And maybe a year or so later our cat. They both lived to past 11 years. And our dog was also on meds for epilepsy. Only briefly because he would spit out the meds no matter how clever I thought I was in hiding them. So, since he refused to take them, I stopped trying to make him. His grand mal seizures were frequent and long lasting. But, he just got better at spitting out the pills, even if I shoved them down his throat. i have only had to use these topicals a few times in our current dogs short life, so far. And it seemed to work fine and for as long as it said it was supposed to work. And when she or we seem a bit more itchy, I apply it again, and wait until it’s “needed”, again- as opposed to routinely scheduled once every month. And in my opinion, it works better than capstar, which is meant as a short acting topical to immediately relieve a flea problem getting out of control. But for whatever reason, this works better for us, even though it might take a few days to really notice results. (I never really noticed immediate results with. Capstar. It helped make the problem not get any worse. But it didn’t solve the problem either.)shelly.c

What I liked is that it was easy to apply, and it work quickly and efficiently , neither of my dogs had any type of negative side effects, there was no redness or scaliness or itchiness at the point of the application, and less than 36 hours all fleas were sufficiently gone. I did do the reapplication Nearly one week early. Only because it was in the thick of flea season and my neighborhood is filled with stray/feral kitty cats.fran.c

My cat reacts to all other flea and tick brands besides this one. Her first falls out with other brands. Advantage does not do that and keeps her flea and tick free. She doesn’t mind when I apply this at all!claire.d

We had 4 cats that we had been treating faithfully with advantage. I love how simple it is to use, compared to the stuff we used to use years ago. Our cats were/are I will say very much over the 9lb … like double and then some. We had 2 older females and 2 younger males. Our females we recued from Humane Society and they have always been sickly cats. First we were told they had allergies to the food, then later to the FLEAS. Either way it was heartbreaking to see them suffer, over groom themselves, pull fur out, and one eventually lost half her weight. We did everything your supposed to do and still our poor sickly cat suffered so…now I don't blame the Advantage at all. I just was confused if it was working or if something else was causing her to react. I CERTAINLY DO RECOMMEND IT, as it is safe for everyone around them and of course for your cat. It is too bad it is so costly, when you have multiple pets that are large, but you must take care of your furry friends. PLEASE NOTE; Sadly for NO reasons found the cat I spoke of that was so sick, died suddenly at home through the night. As a veterinary technician I've used about every flea control product under the sun. This one still works. While it isn't as good as Revolution it does treat all life cycles of fleas. Just make sure that if you have a heavy infestation you treat the environment as well. Fleas can stay hidden in your carpet for many months, even years. Flea control must be given year round unless you live in an area too hot for fleas to survive…Arizona for example. Really great product that can be purchased inexpensively. This definately killed all the fleas on my dog right away. I have a bichon poo and so he has long fluffy fur. This left his fur so soft. The soap itself is very watery and lots just goes down the drain. However, it did work up a good lather unlike what some reviews have said. Bad news is, it does not repel fleas from my experience. Fleas still jump on him and stay. So, I sprayed my yard and house. As well as get him an all natural flea collar repellent. I would much rather use this wash that a Capstar. It worked fast and did kill the fleas on him.M. A.

We purchased this shampoo, as our Rottweiler was very itchy at night. Prior to buying this, I asked how long would this shampoo work? The shampoo works immediately. Essentially it kills any live fleas on the dog, however, this shampoo is not made to continue fighting fleas days later. You need to invest in getting your dog on a flea treatment program to combat ongoing flea issues. As a first time user of this shampoo, I can see my dog is scratching less, and appears to be much more comfortable. I'll be using this shampoo going forward.Mommas_Rottie

This works! I was using an all natural shampoo but my poor puppy needed more help. Shes too young for a flea medication so I used this once a week and in between used the natural flea shampoo. Fleas fell off in sink. I gain a sense of satisfaction when I wash them down the drain. But you need to keep it lathered on pet for a few minutes at least before rinsing off. I checked the rest of her body, and she had zero signs of anymore fleas, flea poop, etc. I use to work in a pet grooming salon, so I know how to thoroughly check for fleas. I have an indoor cat. I decided to be on the safe side and pick up some Advantage II for flea prevention. I remembered Advantage always worked better (over Frontline) for my clients back in my grooming salon days. Instructions were clear. Application was easy. Leaves a greasy mark, but don't worry that greasy residue goes away after 24 hours. So far no fleas on my cat! Whether because it really was one single flea that somehow got brought into the house or the Advantage prevented an infestation, I don't know. Regardless, better safe than sorry. Advantage is all I did for my cat (no bath, etc.), as I didn't feel other steps were necessary since she didn't have an infestation. Please note that Advantage works best for PREVENTION. If your cat actually has a flea infestation, please also give your cat a flea bath, consider giving your cat something that works right away like Capstar, vacuum your carpets, wash pet bedding, and then give Advantage for further prevention (pre-emerged adult fleas can live without a host for over 100 days).shikha.p

Out of the popular brands, this one at least works on day 3-5 after application. Then, it does nothing to deter fleas after day 6. Must be accompanied with de-fleaing bath (I use Adams shampoo) and daily flea combing. Point is, all the OTC flea and tick are no longer effective against fleas as they used to be 10+ years ago thanks to Darwinian evolution where the strongest and drug-resistant fleas have survived and reproduced. I'll continue buying Advantage II until I can get my fur kids on the prescription one, which I heard really works (for now).fluffyfurkidsmom

I've sued this for years on our tiny poodles and it works great. They never get fleas, never get sicks from use. The only draw back it the dog smells for about 24 hours. You might not want to pet them agressively during that time.Oregon2017

Not as expected. I have 3 dogs that weigh between 4 to 7 pounds. Followed instructions and had to reapply after 2 weeks as mentioned. I continued picking off old and new fleas until the next dose was due. And it's the same thing. Picking fleas all the time. And this is the second 6 count box (expensive!) So I have given it a fair shot.Karla
