Using A Dog Training Collar For Sale (2024 Update)

I have an adopted fur-baby that had a lot of control and behavior issues. Training, the usual way was just not working. I tried this and, within one day, the disruptive behavior (running and tearing up things in the house, jumping from one piece of furniture to another, non-stop barking) all stopped. He began with sitting, immediately after only two "vibrations" of the collar. By the end of the week, all I had to do was take out the remote control, say the words of sit, stay, no and wait, and he did so. Now, I don't have to use the remote at all but just say the words. I will tell you that, under no circumstances would I recommend the "shock" feature. Because it is easily changed on this model, by accident, I found out, the hard way just how much it hurts the animal. If you click MODE, by accident, from it being on vibrate, it switches over to Shock. BE VERY CAREFUL when you are about to use the Y button, for sound or vibration as, if it's on shock–and this was the very low setting–the dog whelps loudly and jumps, shakes, etc. I would not recommend it for any animal lover as, I don't even want to know what it feels like. Because the vibration is strong, even on low settings, and the other setting of "beep" is a high frequency sound, I found them the most effective. Thebeep sound is for Guiness (my new family member) to come–I use the vibration for correction, when needed. Guiness was the most difficult dog that I have worked with and I have behavioral training for dogs, which I have used for all of my pets. If this worked on him, it will work on most dogs that have behavioral issues. I would recommend it for the vibration and sound settings–and hope to get one that doesn't have the shock setting as, I feel that is just inhumane to use on a dog (my opinion after seeing how he reacted, on just a low setting). PLEASE USE CAREFULLY until you are used to the remote. That is my only advice when purchasing this for training.kelly4jesus

I am, so far, very happy with the design of the collar and remote handset. I especially like that you can do either vibrate OR static corrections with this set, AND can adjust the level of stimulation, immediately, for each. My only complaint is that the slide on clip is NOT useful. It does not grab either a collar, belt, or pocket, to any real degree. It slips off easily and drops to the ground, to be either lost or damaged. It would be better to design a stronger spring clip or clamp that is stronger. Because it continues to fall from where it is clipped, I am forced to hold it in my hand continually. Giving the dog a visual cue that I have control handy. It is more useful for the dog no not be able to connect such an association. Putting it in my pocket results in a possible inadvertent correction to the dog unnecessarily. Although I like many aspects of this product, and being a professional dog trainer, it would be nice to be able to recommend an affordable, good quality product. But because of the handset clip, I hesitate to do so. If this design was addressed, I would recommend it.dpcclm

My dog used to jump on anyone that came over and she was hard headed about listening. Been using for about a month now and have only shocked her once (on level 2) and now she listen with or with out wearing collar. We still put it on her every day and especially if company is coming over, but she knows when she hears the beep she's gone to far in pushing her luck. Most of time beep gets back in line and if not vibrate does. Can't beleave we waited so long to get one. Now friends and family can come over again and we don't worry about her jumping up on our guest particularly little kids. We put it on her in the morning and take it off before bed time and turn collar off at night and battery will last almost 2 weeks on collar before charging (wonted to see how long battery would last between charges) , Generally now we charge it once a week over night and haven't had it die yet while she's been wearing it. Can't say how water proof it is at this point haven't allowed her in the water with it yet. Only complaint is as others have stated it's easy to change channels on transmitter if your not paying attention. But have gotten used to looking at transmitter before pushing button. Besides If your going from Beep to vibrate your gonna wanna see what you have it set to before you use transmitter again, so I don't find it that big of a deal.jnmpatterson4

This really is a tremendously different product. 127 settings seemed overwhelming to me. As I use this more and more as I train my dog, I’m able to see what that really means. In the past, collars I’ve used only had a few settings, so moving up or down a notch so to say was a dramatic difference, while the dogtra allows me to fine tune the stim very minimally until I find my dogs “number” for the variety of situations. I feel this is really helping the bond with my dog and therefore training is improved.MountainGSD

I bought the Dogtra 280C to use with my very active and agile 1 year old Toy Austrailian Sheppard for stopping unwanted behaviors like digging up my lawn and attacking the cat. The transmitter and receiver both hold charges for days, and easily sync by just holding the two units next to one another at the red dots for a second. The 1/2 mile range is more than enough to reach out and touch her for a friendly reminder to come in for supper. The LCD screen is super nice to see stimulation level at night or when I don't have my glasses with me. My girlfriend owns my dogs twin brother, he also needed corrective training, therefor being as pleased as I am with the performance of my Dogtra 280C, I couldn't help but buy one for her to use with him as well.Red Dogg 47

We bought these training collars 5 yrs ago. As dog owners this is the BEST investment/tool we've ever bought! We bought the 2 collar in 1 pack, in case 1 collar broke we'd have a backup. That ended up working out well because we got a German Shepherd 2 yrs down the road. Both of my girls are so well behaved with the collars on! We have only had to use the static maybe 5 times between the both of them. Once they learned it was their correction the beep worked from then on. My girls play rough. I've dropped the hand controller at least 100x's and everything still works like the day we bought it! It's help teach our girls the yard perimeter, walk off leash in the neighborhood, and get their attention when let out late if they start barking. After seeing so many bad reviews for other collars I wanted to save anyone else from other brands. You can't beat the price on this collar. This ecollar is super easy to use, and since its for house and yard training, the 300' range is perfect. all the functions, static, vibrate, and tone, get my dogs attn. its already held up to rain and snow, temp swings, and an extremely active 1yo shepperd. the value for what you get is fantastic and everything works perfectly. love this ecollar!! We have a new , very smart and very active male german sheperd puppy. The boys can be a little harder to train . I got this initially because he howled in his kennel literally all night unless somebody slept next to the kennel . I only use the vibrate function, and thats been enough to stop even his most persistent behaviors. Its seriously crazy how well this works! I wish I’d tried one in the past with our other dogs. From the beginning whenever id press the button he would immediately stop and sit at attention. Id already taught him sit , lay down and stay before we got the collar. Its pretty hilarious because sometimes i buzz him and he sits down , then he looks around trying to figure out what got him 🤣 I highly recommend getting one of these to train your dog. It takes so much less effort to push a button for persistent behaviors . We have five kids , so the house is pretty hectic at times . Used three times and the collar stopped working. The reason I don’t recommend is the customer service, or lack thereof. There is no phone number to call, therefore, I requested a response twice using their preferred online method. I didn’t receive a response on either request. Products fail, I understand that. This is an amazing product, once fitted properly it works perfectly and now my dog has loads more freedom off lead especially in high wildlife areas (that is mostly in our town boundary). The Dogtra Arc collar is just what my American Treeing Feist, 11 month puppy needed. I had borrowed the same collar from my daughter for about a month, but she needed it back, so for the past two months he had begun to get a little independent in the woods. As soon as I put the new Arc collar around his neck, he was a changed dog. Even without paging him, he began to hunt about 75 yards out and would return to check on me every few minutes. Whenever he gets out of sight, and seems to wander too long, I simply "page" him about three seconds and he comes running. Only twice in the past week have I had to stimulate him, somewhere between level 6 and 11. Then for a day or two after that, only the pager button is needed to turn him around. I have always been apprehensive of shock collars, but my dog was back-tracking on her training. She has always behaved very well on a leash, just to forget that training when the leash comes off. In only 2 weeks of use, this collar has worked like a charm! I have only had to shock once- the vibration and beep modes are enough to correct her. I had a waterproof beeper before. I learned quickly after drowning it. It is not submersible. Now. I know the difference. And this one is a keeper. I love its freedom. I love to walk around the neighborhood pond with our dog, Louise. She loves to play fetch, Especially in the pond. When others walk by she wants to greet them enthusiastically. She normally follows my commands. But when people are involved she can be out of control happy. Anyway this beeper let’s her enjoying fetching in the water, and obeying my “here” command as well. I felt absolutely horrible even thinking about getting this collar at first, but it’s been an amazing training tool with our shelter pittie. She was chewing literally every single thing but her toys and getting into the trash can, as well as peeing all over the house despite us taking her outside frequently to potty. Kennel training and praising/treats helped some, but it just wasn’t enough and a trainer recommended a collar like this. I haven’t had to use the shock and don’t think I ever will need to use it. Just a quick beep or a vibrate on the lowest setting is enough to get her attention. I’ve seen so much improvement in a short time with this collar, and feel that soon we will be able to completely ditch the collar as she is learning and catching on to the rules very quickly. I like the bright red and black colors and it was really easy to put it together. The battery lasts much longer than I expected, which may also be due to the fact that we only use the collar as a last resort to get her attention. This collar is affordable and very effective. I have a large mountain cur who barks at night and annoys the neighbors. My only option was to put him up for adoption or somehow stop him from barking since he’s too big to keep inside. This collar stopped his barking very effectively. I only had to use the mild shock feature once. Now, if he barks, I hit the vibrate button and he immediately gets the message. Great range and battery life as well. I have been using training collars for years. I originally bought one from a sports store for more than $100.00. While it worked great for a few years, it was only one collar. I now needed another one so I did some checking around and then started reading the reviews on each of them. This one had great reviews and Shipping was ultra fast.I have been using it for 2 days now and it works great, I don’t have to leave my house as it travels a good distance as my dogs are in a kennel outside. I've been volunteering walking dogs with Labrador and Friends Rescue and it's required that we have two types of leashes so one form for me is the pinch collar. While some people think these are awful, they actually, if put on correctly, work wonders. These collars are made to go higher up on the neck and not supposed to be digging into the dog's neck (have to be able to stick 2 fingers through the prongs). But these collars definitely help especially if you have a dog that tends to be a little wild and you're trying to train them. Obviously most dogs aren't going to want these prongs digging in their necks soooo they tend to be more relaxed and listen while on their walks.shannon.m

I purchased this product on my brother's recommendation. I have 10 dogs and 14 guineas and only one of the dogs would kill our fowl. My brother had used collars on his dogs with problem behavior and they are now great dogs. I was a little hesitant to use it because I'm not a electric stimulus collar user. It worked great. I don't have to use the stimulus button anymore, just use the tone and she knows she's too close to the guineas. It's not harsh–u determine the settings–and it's well made.guinealady

I bought this collar because we have 3 small dogs with varying issues mostly barking that one starts and it triggers the other two and drives us crazy lol. I started with one dog it took a day and maybe 4 corrections and practically instant results. Second dog had the worst issues especially maniacal barking on walks at other dogs and people. It was almost instantaneous with him and it's abit of a shock(no pun intended) how fast it worked to help. Was hesitant to get this b/c I wasn't sure it was humane. After talking to my vet, I felt comfortable making the purchase. IMMEDIATELY, my wonderful, yet poorly socialized Mini Schnauzer changed his ways. It only took a few zaps, and now he responds to tone only. I would NOT walk him b/c he would go spastic when we met other people and/or dogs — now, although he is still interested in them, I can hit the tone and he just keeps walking. Also, his barking in the backyard has improved tremendously. I send him out, and if he starts barking excessively, I hit the tone button and it stops. I now have no fear about taking him out in "public." Some worry that it makes them more aggressive, etc., but I will tell you he is still the same playful, lovable dog. Worked great training my dog , stops all the pulling when training your dog on a leash, also it does not hurt them in any way . Made my dog lead without any problems. My dog is now 14 months. Have not used this collar since he was younger, but you can lead him without any pulling and lunging with his regular collar. Without this collar , he would be a hand full. Not only did these arrive late, they're misleading and incorrectly listed as herm sprenger prong collars. They are not herm sprenger brand. They're some cheaply made off brand collars that are absolutely not worth the price.amanda

This was recommended by the trainer I am working with for my cocker spaniel. He was a rescue and has some aggression to be worked through. Most of the time he is the most loving dog but he gets extremely possessive with special treats and I end up having to take them away. I want to one day be able to give them back and not have him threaten us. Therefore I'm paying a trainer so that we can change his behavior the proper way. First I want to say that if you are going to use a training collar you read, follow, and refer to the enclosed directions so you know what to do and how everything works. Don’t just charge this item up and test features on the go. Knowing how the product works and how to work it, makes this item very user friendly and with common sense can do very well for the consumer and his/her pet. There is a little dog shaped info card in the box and it has a you tube channel link to it and these are very nice if you prefer to watch these sorts of things for more information on the product. I have used a different collar from this same company for my bloodhound with tremendous success. Keep in mind that he’s 100 lbs. and only a year old. This device when I used it worked very well. I substituted this collar for a number of walks/training sessions and use it when around the house and not in hunting/tracking related environments that tend to be a little harsher than the home and surrounding area. I did not use this collar out to or over 300 yards which it is rated for but did test it out to approximately 150 yards (line of sight) and it worked without any issue. I charged the remote and the receiver until they were fully charged before I first uses it. The charging cords and plug-in are very simple and easy to use and I had no issues. This entire system is travel friendly. The receiver and collar fit well on even my large breed (large neck) dog and the collar is easily adjustable and not to narrow and will be adequate for large to small breeds. I would recommend that if you have a dog that is extra-large/giant and known to pull or plow while on a lead that you use a different collar along with this training collar. The D-ring on this collar was not used for lead attachment with my large dog who is sometimes a puller, but was sturdy when I examined it and snapped a lead onto it and I believe would work as an all-around good collar with the receiver for medium to smaller size dogs. I would not fasten any ID tags to this collar since it is recommended and anyone using a training collar knows to not have this on your animal all the time (maximum 12 hours). The receivers different sized contacts or screws easily can be attached and changed and hold their place (always check on them after you take off and before using again – any contact on any receiver can come loose with wear and time). When testing the shock stimulus on the receiver, the test light is easy to use and functional. The receiver continues to hold a good charge even for being used (mostly alert tone) and stored when not in use, same with the transmitter. I found the small LED light on the receiver to be useful but not an adequate location finder. I have a clip-on separate flashing LED light I use during low light environments. This feature saves you from having to make that purchase and is functional with this receiver, but the further distance you have from your dog, the less useful this feature is. If your dog has really long hair the LED light on the receiver may be completely hindered but overall even in the dark or low light it was a smart feature of this product. Pairing the receiver and transmitter was very easy (just follow the directions). The transmitter was a little small for my big hands but my wife liked it just fine. The side buttons used for adjusting stimulus strength up and down were small for me, but I had no issues. We did use this collar when it was drizzling outside and by no means a downpour but there was no issue with the water resistance of the transmitter or receiver with standard use (note the transmitter is not listed as water resistant but the receiver is). I liked the LED light function on the transmitter and when in the dark or low light, it is kind of handy to have just to see around your general area both indoors and outside. The transmitter is user friendly and functional, the display is easy to read and its icons and numbers are easy to recognize and to know what you are doing. The settings for the stimulus is from 0 -100 giving you a wide range of selection for how the stimulus is applied and can be very useful depending on your pet. I also like the function that you can pair more than one receiver to the transmitter. This is handy when you have and want to use the training collar with two dogs at once. I recommend buying another receiver if you don’t have two in your original purchase, either for two dogs or to have a collar on standby in case your battery dies and you need or want to use the collar and don’t want to wait for a recharge. The recharge is relatively fast though and is within or around 2 hours for full recharge. One thing to note is the smart, standby technology the receiver has. It goes on standby after 20 seconds of no operation and after 20 minutes will shut off. Also, the receiver if on your pet is not used for 4 minutes it goes into standby mode until there is movement and then will automatically turn back oBHMK

Initially didnt think it would work on my pit digging by the fence. The receiver comes with three different size / length "prongs" that are covered in rubber for your dogs protection. The shortest one is what came on it and it didnt seem to be reaching through his hair and touching skin. I moved up one size and it is totally effective. I hardly ever use the shock. I simply use the beeper and if he keeps digging I used the vibrate which is similar to your cell on vibrate but more extreme. He immediately stops and tries to figure out what is going on. That little bit gets him sidetracked enough to concentrate on doing his business and them coming back inside. Highly impressed by the cost and functionality. Totally would recommend, unless your dog had super thick hair like a chow. Might not be as effective.TravisS

The collar worked as described. At first we did not think the shock option worked because our dog did not respond. But it turned out that it was working and our dog was not sure how to respond at first. It appears to have a good range and has had a positive impact on several issues we were trying to contain including jumping on people, barking, and digging or tearing up things. The catch to start training against those items is 1) have the dog wearing the collar 2) have the remote nearby when an incident occurs 3) only buzz it whenever the dog is doing something that you are targeting against 4) and have patience We have managed to slow the barking over the course of two weeks. The barking has not completely stopped but it definitely has improved. Now we see an improvement whenever the collar is not even on. The jumping has not stopped as much but that could also be because I have not been consistent with buzzing her whenever she jumps. That is largely because I either do not have the collar on at the time or do not have the remote handy at the time. But I can say when all is lined up and she jumps, the minute I buzz her, she stops jumping. You can see she is raring to go but works hard to contain herself. As for the digging and tearing up things, this is much harder to stop because catching her in the act, while wearing her collar, and while having the remote requires perfect timing and the ability to watch her periodically. We have not had success with this piece. Overall I would say it works and is worth the price. To be truly successful, I think the dog needs two to three weeks of constant training with 3-4 big items. If you want to train her with every command under the sun and do it quickly, good luck. Instead pick the top three and run with it. Do the next three after 2-3 weeks while continuing to reinforce the prior training.Samuel

disappointed. Its a poor design. The rounded part (NOT the part against the dogs neck) is what really vibrates. My dog (35lb spaniel) doesn't seem to feel it! Also "high" vs "low" setting – Low is slow, High is faster, but still not vibrating MORE! I intend to try to put it on some other way adn trying more, but so far totally useless. I am so glad I chose these dog collars! The remote is slim and fits in your hand nice. The remote has a light on it, and also the collars have lights which you can control with the remote, and they are really bright. Charging the remote and collars is very easy also. Its easy to use the functions of the remote, and easy to see with the backlit screen. Everything works great!itsdel

I have had training collars that cost north of $200. This collar des more and is perfect for dog training. I can normally use only sound, sometimes vibrate and very seldom have to resort to "shock". When I have though I never have to do it again to correct that behavior problem. Only thing I noticed annoying is the firmness required on the buttons. I assume that to be a built in precaution to prevent accidentally triggering. For me it's good. Love it.fishconnect
