Bought this harness for my 10 month old Elkhound. Had it 4 days and one night while I cooked dinner, she got hold of it somehow and ripped it to shreds. I'd only been cooking for 15-20 mins before I realized she was too quiet and i needed to check on her. Anyway, fifty dollars down the drain. I love the color combination of the tan and brown because it matches my dog’s leather collar. The 2 loops on the back and chest are great options for training which I go back n’ forth between using. However, the only issue I have with it is the adjustable buckle around the belly seems to always loosen up by the end of our walk. Honestly I love it. I got it with the matching collar and harness. The sizing was a little guess work but I went with the XXL based on the description saying it would fit pit bull terriers and he’s part pit, part something big. Since he’s still a puppy, it’s a little lose, but he’s already bigger than an adult pit, so if you’re like me and not able to pin your dog down to measure him…This is a little too big for a pit bull terrier, so you should go down a size. Since my Sasuke is still growing, I know he’ll fit into it by the new year, so I didn’t worry about exchanging it. I love the quality. He doesn’t wear it everywhere. The Reddy products look great, and they are expensive. But I have purchased two of these harness now — and I am displeased. (With the first one, I also bought the matching lease at no small cost.) I replaced the first one when the ring broke off within weeks of buying it. Then the ring broke off again. My dog is a small doxie. He pulls but it isn't like he is a 100 pound dog. Bought 2 of these harnesses for our new pups. We thought the ease of stepping into a harness would be easier to train a puppy for leash training, it worked okay. That's the only positive remark I can give. BEWARE! CLIPS DO NOT STAY LATCHED !! We have to be vigilant and watch the pups closely cause the clip just comes undone. Very difficult to train a pup when you can't control them on a leash. Waist of money. We have only had them for 3 week's. Not really made for puppies. Limited space for expansion. This harness and kurgo enhanced strength harness we’re only car harnesses available in the store. I bought both. Reddy fit our 18# dog better. The kurgo fit like it would rub behind her legs. Reddy has a wider breast plate that looks like it would spread the crash force better. Reddy fit our dog better. What I didn’t like with Reddy was threading the seat belt through the loops. The seat buckle barely slides through the loops both latching in and unlatching. You do this while keeping the seatbelt from sliding tight. Luckily we have a calm patient dog. Kurgo uses a carabiner clip to hook harness and seatbelt together, quicker and easier. Understand that both harnesses confine the dog snugly against the seat. Our 18# dog could not sit up, the seat belt snugs harness close to the clip. She could move enough to change laying positions. We used this harness on a 1200 mile trip and will use for trips to vet. Threading seat belt through the Reddy tight loops makes it unlikely use for quick trips. The kurgo is easier for quick trips and rubbing won’t be an issue.Luabr
Very disappointed with Petco for not standing behind their product for more than 30 days. I purchased on Jan 18th and it broke March 7th. I took it into the store and was rudely told I would have to call customer service where I was offered only a partial refund. Due to their “strict policy” they wouldn’t even replace the product. It was buckled on my dog when the clasp just broke off while still clipped in the other side. This harness has been such a life saver; I wish it was available when our pup first came home! After moving out of the city, we’ve had to drive longer distances than we used to, in addition to our regular vet visits and trips to see family. Just some of the reasons we now use this harness exclusively: -Because of the method in which the harness is secured to the seatbelt, it keeps Sammie from jumping up to the front of the car while moving and prevents him from twisting himself around if he gets anxious. -The 4 points of adjustment allow us to get the perfect fit and takes away any worry that he will wiggle out and get hurt. -The ability to clip his leash on and use as a walking harness make trips in and out of the vet and stores quick since we don’t t have to constantly take it off and put it back on him. -Probably the most important, Sammie tolerates having it on really well. He doesn’t paw at it or try to get it off which we take to mean it’s actually comfortable for him The only negative we have is unfortunately a big one, and the reason for taking away 1 star. Getting the seat belt through the loop can be difficult and time consuming. This really become an issue if we need to hop out of the car on a busy road, we need to make a stop for a potty break, or if I’m getting him in and out myself in the dark/late at night. I'm giving this harness only three stars because I watched my cat lay on his side yesterday and pull one leg out of its hole. I'm certain that he'd have gotten the other leg out in short order if I hadn't caught him in the act (the harness fits him pretty snugly). Before I saw that – because it looks like a good design – I was convinced that he would NOT be able to wiggle out of it, but I was wrong. Because I live in the suburbs, my dog is permitted to run free in the backyard. He has, however, incredibly deep black fur AND vanishes swiftly at night. I tried putting a light-up collar on him, but because he is a medium dog with a low head, the light-up collar was not visible from most angles. This harness has solved the problem. The light not only wraps around his entire body, but it is so brilliant that I can see a glow on the ground or anything surrounding him. For example, if he hides behind a shrub or tree, I can still tell where he is by the illumination on the ground. A driver would definitely see him standing near the road. To miss him, the driver would have to be sleeping. I really appreciate how the light's on/off switch is placed. It is simple for me to go to. The button on previous light-up collars was under the collar, which was an issue for me. This meant that if my dog ran too rapidly, the collar would bounce across his neck and switch off. Not at all helpful. This harness never has that problem. The button is on his back, and I must push and hold it for about 3 seconds to turn it off. This implies that if he accidentally pressed the button against a hanging tree branch or anything, the light would merely change color rather than turn off totally. When you switch it back on, it also remembers the color you previously picked, so you don't have to cycle through all of the possibilities to get to your favorite color every time you use it. Finally, based on my experience with this product, the harness appears solid and durable, and the straps and cushioned portions all feel soft and tight – more comfortable for such a little dog. The clip buckles do not appear to be as weak as some I've seen because they appear to be constructed of metal rather than plastic. The straps are difficult to adjust, therefore they will not release as easily as others I have used. I would highly recommend for purchase.Ziggy

I purchased a medium Reddy Harness a few months ago for my puppy Newfoundland. It was comfortable for my dog and easy to get on him but he grew out of it fast. I recently upgraded to a large and also purchased an XL to ensure they are available when my growing puppy will need that size. I love this brand! Bought this harness about a week ago. It fits my boy pretty well and has little reflectors on the sides of the straps which is a neat feature as well as a handle right on the top. The chest is extremely padded and soft so I chose this one out of all the others because our purpose of buying it was for pulling on a bicycle. My dog loves to run as fast as he can when I get on the bike and actually really enjoys pulling me. I can already tell that the location of the clip (where the leash attaches) will wear down and the threading that holds it in place will rip considering it's just a sowed on strap of leather. Personally for 50 bucks I think they could have done a better job on that part but if you are getting it for the purpose of walking your dog, as long as he/she isnt a heavy puller I can tell ya it will last a very, very long time. Also, we've ran him for miles with it on and he doesnt get chafed by the harness either. He seems very comfortable in it even for extended periods of time and his fur doesnt mess up or get pulled out either. I would have given 5 stars if it wasnt so expensive but only gave 4 because the price should reflect the quality of the product which I was expecting highly of and just after a weeks worth of miles, the harness is already showing its weakness and threading is beginning to stretch where the handle/leash clip is.Labatha
This is a well made harness and comfortable on my dog. We use a Large for our Australian cattle dog mix breed who is 32-35lbs. We tried the medium and it was FAR too tight for her! The reason this gets 4 stars is the leather handle loop. It's pretty bulky and you can't make it stick out any less than it already does. Specifically when my dog jumps into the car crate we have set up for car travel, the leather handle gets stuck on the door frame of the crate as she hops in. It's gotten scuffed up quite a bit in just a couple week's use so I'm curious to see how that piece holds up over time. The last harness we had from another brand had a handle, but it had a much lower profile and never caught on stuff.GellBell

Bought for my 5-month old golden retriever puppy who started pulling hard with just collar/leash. MUCH less pulling with this harness – now just slight pulling when he's excited to see a squirrel or someone he knows. I have it adjusted to tightest/smallest possible now and that's good because he'll grown into the largest setting. Picked one of these up after the plastic clasp on the harness of my 39 pound Border Collie mix failed, releasing him to take off (which of course he did). Fortunately, a woman got him to come over to her as he was headed up an interstate entrance ramp. The clasps on this harness are metal and feel secure when fastened. I just got a couple Airdale Terrier puppies that are about 4 1/2 months now. They're in training now so I wanted to find something that would be comfortable for them while learning to walk on leash. My daughter told me about these harnesses and how they're like a hug for puppies/dogs. I decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did. They fit perfectly. I ordered size medium for the Teddy Grey Reflective dog harness. The style of this harness has the neck and stomach band made from one piece, so if you are shortening one, you're shortening the whole thing. It was really hard to size it right the first time we put it on. I had to loosen it to the biggest size it could be too fit my almost year old lab heeler mix. He fits well in mediums of other brands with extra room to grow. I would recommend a size up in this one. The reflective quality of the material is pretty dull. I thought the one-strap design was clever. And it seemed a nice lightweight harness for summer. Sadly the design was difficult and confusing to adjust. When I finally got it adjusted properly and we started walking, it didn't stay snug and kept slipping sideways off her shoulders. At least it has both a top and front connectors. Great fitting harness and the adjustable neck section is great . I've had other harnesses in the past and whilst they fit my English Staffordshire around the body I found they got to a point where they were difficult to get on and off over his big lump of a head . I have a 70lb Xoloitzcuintli (Mexican Hairless). I purchased both the Hurtta Cooling Coat and the Swamp Cooler Dog Vest by Ruffwear. Both are made from similar material and work the same way. The Hurtta coat has much more coverage, has extended hind end flaps and front chest flaps, resembles a horse jacket. Whereas the Ruffwear is more of a fitted vest. I would have given the Hurtta Cooling Coat 5 stars however, the stitching that secured the chest strap isn't reinforced and tore out of the material the first time used. I then outfitted the dog in the Ruffwear Swamp Vest, which worked beautifully. Since my dog is hairless it was easy to feel how well the vest worked. Placing my hand on exposed skin, then touching skin under the vest, there was a noticeable difference in temperature however his skin was dry – just cooler. I have stitched the Hurtta strap back on and feel it will be equally as good if not better than the Ruffwear due to it's increased surface area.Laura
Got a *very similar* Puppia mesh harness for my chi that was adjustable on the shoulders rather than pulling over her head. The harness was comfortable on her and held up well, but the buckles on the shoulders just made it too bulky. So I would definitely recommend the ones without the extra buckles.

I've tried numerous harnesses and never loved any until this one. I have a miniature rat terrier who is 13.5 lbs. He tends to be too big for mediums and way too small for large sizes. Finally, this harness fits perfectly in Medium! There's even a little room to spare in case he gets larger. We wanted to take off pressure from his neck and the v neck design and light weight, soft mesh is great! It's by far the softest one I've ever felt, and I've tried every one at multiple stores. It's so comfortable that it could be left on all the time even in summer since it's so breathable. My dog lives it too! He seems to feel safe and calmer in it like a thunder shirt makes him feel. The first time I took him on a walk he seemed to feel "free". He was so happy to pounce around without worrying about a jerk in his neck. We give this one 5 stars!!!! I got this in black, size medium from Amazon. She has a 12" neck and a 19" chest. This harness is adjustable around both neck and chest. My pup has a high chase drive and will sometimes pull suddenly. I like that the x-shape doesn't put as much pressure on her throat when she pulls, and the double d-rings and buckle closure feel very secure for her leash. I bought this in a medium a week ago and I've used it around 2-3 times already. I have a maltipoo and she has a tendency to pull and try to go faster/farther and it would cause her to choke in her previous harness. However, not a single time since I've started using this has she choked/gagged. The sizing is a bit off for her though, since a small is too tight but a medium is too loose (but the medium isn't loose enough for it to be unsafe/falling). This harness is true to its name and is so helpful for dogs that try pulling and end up choking. It's also super softer than her old one. I also bought a small for my yorkie and I think she loves it! Normally she hates harnesses but this one she doesn't seem to mind! I feel like it makes her more comfortable when she's walking as her previous ones weren't the most softest like this. I just purchased this harness yesterday in a size Medium for my 16 lbs Beagle mix. It ripped completely in half after only having her wear it for 2 hours. It fit perfectly which is why I gave it 2 stars, but it should have lasted for more than 2 hours. Definitely not worth my money.Zoie Mom
This is my third Gooby harness. Small size worked well when she was a puppy. She outgrew the Small we got her a medium and there was a small sign of tearing on this harness when we upgraded her to large. We got her the large pink and the fabric tore in half. The black fabric on the edge was the only thing keeping it together. Our dog weighs 18lbs but she’s built like a tank. If you have a dog that pulls I wouldn’t recommend this harness. First the Pros: this harness is durable and I have no doubt it is strong and durable enough to hold my 70lb pittie when needed. It also does a great job of keeping her from pulling when using the chest loop. We love the Ruffwear brand and I (and my dogs) love the sweaters/clothing as they are always cold in temps below 70°. Cons: I watched the video on fitting the harness and every single walk results in raw skin/bleeding/scabs under her armpits (she has very thin fur on her underside) due to the material of the harness rubbing in this area. I also find the buckles a bit difficult to unclip as they are partially hidden inside the attachment area which means you have to squeeze the buckle through the thick harness material to release the clasp. Because of my love of their other products and the front clip feature, I may try to put some padding or softer material in the underarm area to see if that helps.Melissa S.
For the most part I really like this harness. The construction seems sturdy and the color is nice, and it’s very easy to get on and off. That said, I think it could be improved by lengthening the body (the neck to back, if you will). I have two mixed breed dogs who are very similar in shape, size, and weight. I purchased two of these harnesses, one in extra small and one in small. The small is overall a bit too large around, and the small (although ok for girth) is way too short. I am always trying to keep an eye on their underarms and backs of their elbows to make sure they aren’t getting raw spots. I’ve seen the same issue in other reviews, so I don’t think it’s just my dogs. I would also love it if you could purchase extenders in different sizes, because I think often a smaller size is better all around, but doesn’t extend in girth quite enough, while the next size up is too big. The good still outweighs the not perfect though, and I keep coming back to Ruffwear to buy different styles of harnesses!Samantha N.
I saw this harness at my local REI and without knowing anything about the brand or how it would impact my life, I knew it was “cute”. I bought it for my mischievous lab puppy who weighed around 50 lbs at the time, solely for that reason. The cute factor. I then came here and ordered the Ruffwear Knot-a-leash rope dog leash to match. We used the harness and leash combo for about a week, when my fearless puppy decided to show me how well it works. I was driving on the freeway, and while waiting in traffic to exit on the off ramp, I opened my back windows for her to get some fresh air. She was clipped to a cheap “doggie seatbelt clip” so she was secure, or so I thought. I hadn’t noticed that she had un-clipped herself from the seatbelt until the moment I saw her jump right out the car window, and disappear from my view. She wasn’t trained at the time and would make a run for it anytime possible. I panicked picturing my dog running into freeway traffic and being hit, but to my disbelief I found her hanging off the car window, being securely help in place by this harness and the rope leash that was still inside the car. The impact of her weight combined with the momentum of the jump, did nothing but dent the locking system of the carabiner shut, and held her weight without letting her escape or even touch the ground for that matter, and not a single rip happened to either the harness or the leash otherwise. This “expensive, but cute” dog accessory prevented my dog from a terrifying death that would have surely happened had she not been wearing both of these incredible, life-saving items. This harnass lasted exactly three minutes. I put it on my dog, adjusted it, and she chewed it for a second and it completely tore. The company acknowledges that it can not withstand even a quick nip from your dog. Ridiculously poor quality. Their answer is for you to spend another 12.99 for a warranty to get another harnass which will do the same thing. Awful product that is expensive. Dismissive and unethical customer service. I really like the product. The two connection points give me more control over my reactive dog. A few months after purchase I noticed some of the nylon was unraveling near one of the box stitches. I contacted the company and provided pictures and they replaced it right away. Great product and great service.
Just know that this isn’t a miracle product that will completely stop your dog from pulling. It’s not a replacement for training. YOU as the owner have to teach your dog proper leash manners. But if you want more control, or you have a reactive dog, I definitely recommend this.Rachel Cormier
