Large Dog Trailer For Bike For Sale (Jan 2023 Update)

This trailer is easy to open & get ready for the road (I wouldn't describe it as "assembly"– you're just opening it up and popping on wheels). The ride is smooth, and we haven't had any tipping issues (my dog weighs 32lb). It's not especially heavy compared to other dog trailers. It's simple to detach & reattach to your bike for use. My critiques are that the nylon material isn't super rugged or thick, so zip with care. I do wish the back door also had a mesh layer so that if you're riding with someone behind you, they could see the dog.name Nicole

I've been searching for a large pet trailer for a nearly 70Lb dog. Decided to go for the Schwinn Rascal Plus as the price point was decent, though I could not find a single review for this particular trailer. Almost all the reviews are for the regular Schwinn Rascal for up to 50Lb dogs. I didn't want to spend over $200 for a large trailer, especially one my dog may not use at all. SET UP: It didn't come with a manual so I needed to contact the manufacturer for one. I based my purchase on the reviews of the smaller Schwinn Rascal (for dogs up to 50Lbs) and assumed assembly and function would be similar in regards to how easy it is to put together. This isn't the case for the Rascal Plus. There are a lot of parts. When I got a hold of the manual, it isn't very user friendly and needs a lot more detail. It was a two person job to put everything together, and you do require a number of tools (no tools are included). The cross bar is what allows the trailer to fold for storage. For the Rascal Plus, the crossbar is VERY difficult to put in place. I needed assistance from someone who is physically strong and even for them it wasn't easy to secure into place. I'm now hesitant to collapse the trailer for storage because I'll need help to get it set up again. Wheels: The wheels make me anxious, quite honestly. It's a pin that holds it in place , not secured in any other way. I took the trailer out for a test drive and I can feel the trailer shaking a lot. I'm not sure how safe I would feel having a living being in this trailer on the road knowing that a simple metal pin/clip is holding the wheels in place. Just about most parts are held together by pins, that are released by pushing a metal clip out of the way. The trailer does tilt back quite a bit, maybe I need to adjust the tow bar coupler position on my bike but right now it isn't level. The Cabin: Large cabin however this isn't for tall/long dogs. For reference, my dog is 45" long from nose to the base of tail (sacrum area) and 30" tall. The inside diameter of the cabin is 31" in length, 22" width. I like that the weight capacity is high enough at least to hold the weight of the my dog, but also hold a significant amount of weight when I need to haul items. Fabric: I can't speak on durability of the fabric but it is very thin and the entire unit is covered in pressure marks. It could use reflective material for night time visibility, right now there is only 1 small red reflector attached to the back. The weight of this trailer is quite heavy. I have no idea if it's made out of aluminum or steel because the product details are different (for the regular Rascal trailer) on just about all sites I've visited. I can feel it when I cycle up a slight incline. I do also think the attachment interferes with the wheel in someway, like my wheels weren't moving as smoothly after installing this trailer. There's a fabric strap that gets caught near the chain plate, which I moved further away but then it doesn't clip back to the original loop and I had to clip it to the tow bar pin near the coupler.Holistic Pets

This is a great product for your pet. Our 53 lb. lab loves it. It has easy access from the back and she gets right in. There is plenty of room in the 2 pockets inside the trailer and a smaller pocket on top. I only gave it 4 stars because I had a hard time removing the piece off the latch while I was assembling it. It comes with a mat for the bottom of the carrier but we added a dog pad to make the ride more comfortable for our dog. The material seems sturdy and we leave the front open for her to enjoy the ride. It has a small lead leash to secure your pet for the ride. It pulled very well behind my bike. We have electric bikes and the trailer hitch fit just fine on the wheel hub.Staci J

I like the trailer on my bike. We did need to make the attachment hole bigger on the adapter hole as it was a little too small. It trailers nicely and the dogs look forward. They do scratch at the screen which is concerning but hopefully they will stop and just enjoy the ride. I have 3 small dogs I use this for. The stroller feature is fine except the front wheel doesn't swivel. I had to keep adjusting it as it wandered off to the right. It doesn't "push" straight. My husband got me a swivel wheel (from a different brand) and even though it is smaller in size, it is great for pushing the "stroller" now. Dogs load easy enough. I like it says "Lucky Dog." I am very pleased with this dog stroller – it handles much better than the one that we bought previously that was made for children. It is very sturdy and much roomier for our two dogs. The window vents on all sides is a definite plus! However, the front wheel attachment when functioning as a stroller is not on a swivel, and it makes turning very difficult! When walking on sidewalks or on trails, which is what we wanted to use this stroller for, a swivel wheel is necessary. I hope that a swivel wheel becomes available in the future either with the stroller or as an add-on. It would also be more convenient if the handle didn't need to be detached when folded down.Michele

I bought the large trailer and was very excited when my husband put it together, the trailer is well made, a little bit bulky and slightly heavy, it take a lot of room and difficult to transport around in the car. It takes up the whole back of my SUV. The wheel is not plastic but actually made out of norm tire rubber. It can easily hold more than one pet ( up to 100lbs) however the mesh is easily tear by my 10lb dog and the stitches around the zipper unravel real easy. I would give it a 5 stars if the mesh was better quality and the sewing around the zipper is more studier. For those who take their pets and don't care about contain him/her and like to have the mesh open then this trailer is for you.riverside

The trailer is all and more than what I expected! My dogs love it! I have four dogs, two ride in trailer & the other two ride in the big basket in the back of my trike I bought from Walmart. I had to modify the way the trailer hooked up to the back of the trike purchased clamps and drilled a hole in trailer bar and we were off to the dog park! Hope if you buy one you have as much fun as me & my 4 dogs!TAHOEBOUND

A good value for the cost. Functions well. The only criticism I have were the assembly instructions. A few tiny and grainy photos, not self explanatory for folks who are unaccustomed to assembling bicycles. This could be a lot better. I did find a couple Youtube videos that helped.53goofy

I brought this as it was the lightest I could find. It is light and stable But it is still bulky, difficult to take the wheels off ( they may just be stiff) The plastic on the lower window has cracked already ( only used it for 5 days so far) and the lower window is useless,( unless you are carrying a cat….what animal wants to look out at that level and to your back wheel) the top opening is huge and the mud from the wheels sprays in. So a stable light weight trailer….may be the best on the market ( at this price) but lots of things that niggle! Oh and the plastic button to hold back the top flap came off as soon as I tried to use it…..Joy M

Excellent trailer. Well made, light weight and looks good too. My two Lhasa’s both fit and love it. The two loops on inside mean both can be secured in. We purchased some shock resistant lead adapters to use to secure them. Wheels pop of easy and store under sofa while carriage works well as a dog bed when not being used with bike.Anonymous

This trailer is very spacious for my corgis. Despite their short height, they can see out the windows. They didn't seem to get any motion sickness and the zippers seem durable. Some of the seams of the fabric had threads coming out fresh out of the box. I'm hoping it lasts. I wish it came with a rain cover being that it was very pricey. I went with the XL due to the slightly larger dimensions, even though the combined weight of my dogs would've been under 75 lbs. The trailer goes on bumpy terrain, on grass and over hills just fine.Jessica

Went on a hike with a group of friends and let me tell you… carried 80+ lb husky (Bandit) in this bad boy and it was light weight! Bandit was a little nervous at first, but by the end of the hike he was taking a nap and would not get out!!! Highly recommend!Joana R.

This dog trailer is amazing! My dog loves riding in it. We thought she would be nervous b/c she is a pretty timid dog but she got right in. Now that she knows it means she can go with us everywhere, she loves it even more. It is super easy to set up too! The one thing is I wish it came with a soft padded bed. I know you can buy one but for $400 it seems like it should come with the bed. Our dog is a border collie mix ~ 32lbs and she fits in the regular size perfectly.Jessd

Really happy with our Ibiyaya stroller. It is a dream to walk and easily fits our four fully grown cats all together on daily hour long walks. The quality of materials and build is excellent, we get stopped often by people asking about it. The only thing to be mindful of for cat owners is to consider zip locking all the zippers closed except for the top entry. This prevents cheeky monkey paws from managing to escape! And you'll need to put a nice comfy blanket of your own into the stroller, as it doesn't come with a suitably cushioned pad. Definitely a 5 star purchase and well worth every dollar. Highly recommend – awesome product and easily assembled. Our aging Border Collie loves rides behind the bike and when we go for walks she happily hops in to be pushed when she has had enough. She is again part of our daily exercise routine 🙂Jo

This Ibiyaya stroller has a Wow factor. Before I buy anything I do heaps of research. This stroller comes out as Highly Recommended in most online reviews, except there are some reviews on Amazon that are a bit critical. I contacted Modern Pets to discuss and they were wonderful and helpful in explaining things. After buying this, I seriously don't understand those Amazon reviews, I suspect most of them are user issues (like brakes not working – the caps need to be removed, wheel coming off – they need to be clicked in). My kids love this stroller and so do I. It's so easy and light to manoeuvre, they are so comfortable and can recline. They look squished in these photos, but that's them cuddling up and trying to get my attention for the photo! It's so spacious I could have another dog or two in it (my friends are aghast at this, they think 3 dogs is enough!). Ibiyaya is serious quality. I've got a doggy backpack from them and this is also wonderful. I really can see the quality in this stroller and why it costs a little more, but it is definitely worth it. I've tried other strollers, the higher ones like a baby stroller, and there is no comparison with this. This one is outstanding. Since buying it, I've used it daily. I want to use it and so do the kids! It's well worth paying the extra for it. Just be prepared to be stopped and asked about it! Others seem to love it too. The only feedback for Ibiyaya (not Modern Pets), it could have a better soft cushion in it (not a big problem, I've put one in), it would be great to have an attachment for a bike light (again, not a big problem as have attached a bike light), and some hooks on the handlebar for a shopping bag (again, I've put these on – and can see why they may not want to include this as could easily create an imbalance). Modern Pets were also fantastic with delivery. It came in 2 days and was a breeze to assemble. Ibiyaya perhaps should advise Ikea on how to do this!! I have enjoyed the trailer. We've used it for several trips and the dogs ride really comfortable. It's made very well and looks great. I have received several compliments about how nice it looks. I would like to suggest one thing. When pulling the trailer I find it very difficult to see behind me. I'm riding a Honda Goldwing Trike. I'm thinking about buying a backup camera but they are very expensive. I find this a safety issue with few ideas to resolve the problem. Any suggestion from the company?Julianne H.

The Bee is great. I?ve had it on the road and gravel at averages of 11-15mph. There is significant drag right at 15mph, but that is also the manufactures stated top speed. My only gripes are these. That the seat back does not recline. This means my 23lb, 1 year old, slides forward as the ride progresses, pushing their helmet forward which causes them to uncomfortably slouch. So I stop every 30mins or so to ensure they are sat back up and pushed to the back of the webbed seat. Second, the seat belt straps can irritate a child?s neck, but this can be remedied by putting cloth or removing the strap pads from your car seat and using them on the Bee?s seat beast straps. I would recommend to anyone with kids (and even small-medium dogs), just keeping in mind that slight modifications may be needed depending on your passenger.Brandon G

My little girl LOVES riding in her "bee chariot"! It is super easy to attach, and folds up for storage. It has two seats with 5 point harnesses, and holds up to 100lbs. Side pouches for the kiddos help too! Did I mention there's storage space in the back. You can ride top up or down. It is sturdy and safe. Even has a neon flag attachment. This accessory gave me my freedom back and helped me drop some leftover baby weight too!mk.m

I sold my car to go car-free and needed a way of geting my dogs around town, to the vets, to the park etc. Enter the Burley Trail Wagon. All of the reviews are true. This thing slaps. `Very well made, easy to assemble, and sturdy but light. The best thing about it, though, is how easy it is to ride with this trailer. It doesn't feel at all cumbersome and doesn't feel like it adds much weight to your bicycle. It'd be even easier with an ebike. It could also double up as a grocery trailer or hauler of anything, for example a box that needs to go to the post office and is too big for a bike basket. Buy it while its on sale!jkbrwn

Took a chance and it paid off. I my options are quite limited because one of the bikes I might use it on has non-standard rear axle so I needed one that could attach to the seat post not the rear axle. This was the only one available for sale with the size and type I wanted.It's really good. Bigger than I expected as well. I use it as a shopping trolley around the supermarket. I wasn't using a car much in the town, it's now eliminated all my town car use.One thing that would be useful to get is a taller box that fits it. I used the box it came in for a bit but need something plastic. It's good enough for my shopping but a large weekly family shop might be an issue for it in terms of size if not weight.I've heard some stuff about low quality trailers but this is very strong and sturdy, the waterproof cover works exceptionally well. The frame is very sturdy, the connector is really good. Having the spring so it slightly bends seems to do a lot of good in keeping it smooth.The only thing that vaguely concerned me when I got it was the plastic wheels but they seem to be really common on this sort of thing, and are fine and sturdy and I can't see an issue with them if used properly. My hope is looking at them if it ever does come to it they should be replaceable.And frankly if that's part of the price for it being £70-80 instead of £170-180 it's worth it.The one other thing is how much weight it's made to carry. It's either 40kg or 50kg or maybe 60kg. website says 40kg. The box I believe said 50kg and the instruction manual said 60kg (or vice versa I forget now) and that inconsistency is not good.Mr

Well to put it bluntly, this is a typical chinese product. The bin was warped, the frame quite flimsy and the worst thing is the rims are a fraction too small on the rims edges so if you put 45 psi in the tires…..they will simply pop right on over the beads on the rim exploding the tube and causing you much frustration. Overall this bike trailer should be priced at no more than $65. based on quality and design but if you are a sucker for chinese made junk?….then it will probably suite your needs. Also it tends to flip over very easily especially when empty and will cause you to wreck your bicycle so be real careful when towing this piece of garbage and go slow, otherwise your in for a nasty surprise!.martisleep

I searched the internet extensively to make a choice of cycle trailer. There are so many, in a wide range of prices and customer reviews , so it was a tricky decision to home in on this one. It arrived on time with all parts and simple instructions. The steel pressed spanner and allen key you should ignore and get a ratchet spanner, a phiilips screwdriver and some grease ( or vaseline) to protect water entering for the wheel hubs. Whenever I assemble something that will see the light of day and some rain I will spray WD40 on all the bolts etc. The residue makes it easier to adjust them later and to avoid corrosion in a few years time.The trailer is well made. Another customer was critical of the welding, citing the fact that two welds had holes. These holes are there to prevent condensate build up within the tubular frame and are placed equidistant at the least critical weld points in the frame – so full marks for engineering design!Assembly is intuitive and the tow bar fixing to the bike stem simple and effective. Just make sure that the fixing clamp that holds the male connector for the tow bar sprung clutch is set with enough space under the saddle to reach and press the orange coloured clutch to detach the tow bar. ( Look at my photos) Attaching ( by pushing on) and detaching the trailer is easy.The plastic container is very strong – I sat on it to assemble the frame and it did not distort at all and I am close to 17 Stone in weight!The tyres pump up easily once you have made sure the pump connector is fully tightened to the valve stem but its hard work using a sports type pump. They are small tyres so it does not take much to get them hard enough – I gauged them to 40 lbs.The cover is excellent quality and fits exactly.I am so delighted with this trailer – all that research was worth it! I recommend it to anyone who wants a robust, smart and simple bike trailer.john d

Great design and so awesome have on my bike! I did not know my dog was claustrophobic. There is a way to connect an internal leash to the cart to keep the dog in, but my dog panicked jumped out the top and rolled the cart as we took off. Good news! The cart is built with a safety feature that does not pull your bike over if the cart were to tip. Again, great design. Working with my dog to slowly to help her become familiar with the product. A PLUS: if the dog does not come with us, we can put a cooler and picnic lunch in the back. Wonderful to haul things in.Debra W.

The trailer is wonderful. Very roomy for my two toy poodles and easy (10 minute) assembly. The instructions state that the kit comes with a hex wrench, but it did not so you will need your own. It did come with all other needed attachments though – you do NOT need to buy the bike coupler attachment separately as it comes with that. It also came with a safety flag. My biggest disappointment is that it took 17 days from the day I ordered the trailer for it to arrive. I reached out to customer service three times after receiving no updates regarding its shipping status (the link I was provided was broken). The staff were very responsive and kind, but often did not have any definitive answers they could provide on an ETA. If you are looking for a pet trailer in general, I'll say this one is a great pick. But I would go a different route if you are on a time crunch to get one.Bl

Trailer came very quickly but the box was damaged. Luckily nothing inside was affected. Upon assembly I found lots of issues… most of the locking pins do not attach or detach without a lot of force and readjustment. This is particularly frustrating with the pins inside the trailer as there is no easy way to access them without laying on the ground and sticking half my body inside the trailer. The holes for the tow bar connector are not aligned so the only way to attach the trailer to my bike is by winding and holding the spring as i put in the locking pin, something that would be difficult even if they were aligned because as i said the locking pins do not go in easily. The way that the spokes of the trailer tires are set up using the locking lever of a bike pump is not possible and there was nothing in the instructions about inflating the tires. It looks very cute though. I got the blue one and its a nice color. I like that the mat at the bottom is removable, I do wish it attached in someway because every time I bring it out to use it the mat falls off and has to be repositioned. If you're planning on leaving it on your bike all the time none of the issues will really come up but thats not the situation for me and its a real irritating process to go for a ride with my dog.Kacy

I have had this trailer for 8 years now. I use it for my dachshunds. One of them has passed away, but she was basically handicapped from joint problems. She loved going for a bike ride in this, and I love how it is also a stroller, too. We travel with this trailer as well, and it’s simple to take apart and put together. Now I’m going to purchase the smaller trailer since I only have one dachshund now, and she’s older. I take it on our walks and she is protected from other dogs and lets me know when she wants out to walk.Wilkyway

Just received this product today through chewy today, very easy and straight forward putting together. If I have one thing to say and wish it had would be the top is a solid piece, wish it had the option of the solid and breathable netting like on the front. I feel it will help when helping dogs get use to the trailer. You can have all the openings closed but still have views, smells and wind coming through, or close it off for some shade… just a thought and why it didn't get 5 stars off the bat.Jgrant

We did a lot of research before purchasing this item and I'm glad we did. We've been very happy with it. It is easy to maneuver, the brake is helpful, and it is easy to convert back and forth from stroller to bike trailer. There are plenty of windows for our dog to enjoy the view, and he loves sitting with his head sticking out of the top. It is easy for him to get in and out. I highly recommend this product!Petmom55
