I am a vet assistant, and I see all kinds of animals coming in with different skin conditions or allergies and always felt so bad for them and their owners….. then I got a dog with allergies and then I found out what it's really like…. it is devastating watching your dog itch and scratch to the point of pulling their hair out, then when the hair is gone… then there goes their skin…. they will make themselves bleed and still won't stop. I tried benadryl I tried EVERYTHING, had to even do skin antibiotics and steroid Injections and still he was itching…. so… the dr tried him on this….. now… first thing I will say is this medication isn't cheap especially for bigger dogs (if you have a 10lbs dog it's not going to be too bad) but my poor dog had to start off taking 2 16mg 2 times a day and it was roughly 300 for the first month, however from there you taper down and after a few months I got him down to half a tablet once daily…. anyway…. this medication worked like a dream for him. He hasn't had any issues for over a year now and although sometimes he scratches its more of a normal itch. This medication literally saved him and my sanity. I've tried the Veterinary Formula Clinical Care Antiseptic and Anti fungal Spray for Dogs and Cats on a few of our outside cats. They've been deflead but one still kept scratching and losing fur just above her tail. I'm not sure if it's an allergic reaction to the fleas or if it's the result of a thyroid problem. But we tried this spray and the itching stopped immediately. It's been almost 3 weeks and she still isn't scratching it. I also wanted to try this on some ringworm that a few of the outside cats have. I've been spraying this on for almost 3 weeks now but haven't really seen any improvement with the ringworm spots that I'm treating. Ringworm can respond slow to treatments anyway so I'm not sure if this is going to help with that or not. The spray is a pump and it has a light citrus smell, kind of like oranges. It will not harm your pet if they lick it. It didn't list a minimum age that you can use it on. It contains Chlorhexidine Gluconate, Keratin, and Aloe Vera. It's listed as an antifungal, antimicrobial, and antibacterial. To use this you just spray the area tell really wet, twice daily for a week, then once daily for another week. I read the reviews for this product but was still a bit skeptical for it to actually work. One of my cats (2 yr old orange tabby) literally scratched the size of a 50 cent bare spot (literally overnight) in center of his back below shoulder blade. By the end of the day the circle was warm red inflamed and gross. Being on a tight budget I did my research for home remedies. First I began applying a year old vet prescribed Dermalone antibiotic that was prescribed for one of my other cats for 3 days but area got worse. Then began applying Neosporin for 2 days lightly on and around scab now and ( luckily the spot was where he could not reach to lick off) and it did nothing as well. A week later purchased this product, followed the directions and a week later the area was completed healed. Scab dried and fell off and new skin looks perfect and normal. Ever since I adopted my little Angel a few months ago, I've wanted to get rid of her overly flaky coat and large amount of shedding. My vet first prescribed the standard fatty acid capsules. They were too large to administer by themselves and with pill pockets. Squeezing the liquid into Angel's wet food was out of the question as well, as she is EXTREMELY picky when it comes to supplementing her food with vitamins, medicines, etc. and refused to touch her dinner if it had the liquid in it. Exasperated, I purchased Ark Naturals Royal Coat and crossed my fingers, hoping she wouldn't reject it. Success! Angel actually seems to like her wet food even more with Royal Coat mixed in it. I'm quite surprised with the reviews that say this product doesn't work. For my dog, it truly was a LIFE SAVER! I've been battling with my dogs hotspots (and dry, flaky skin) off and on ever since we moved back to the Midwest, at least a year of her issues. I've tried shampoos, conditioners, a handful of trips to the vet to trial different foods, and hundereds of dollars later I honestly just gave up. I started putting alternative topical agents on her that simply gave a temporary resolution. While traveling out of town, she (Mini Schnauzer) had a really bad case, to the point where she was starting to bleed. Tea oil, hot spot spray and the above HomeoPet drops were what I returned with, after another visit to the pet store. After the first day her redness had diminshed greatly and she wasn't itching nearly as much. By two, she wasn't itching AT ALL. I decided to remove the Tea oil and spray since I'd used them in the past without long-term results. It's been a week and my schnauzer has had 3-5 drops a day, oral dose of this product and she is doing exceptional! Seriously! No redness, no scratching. Today I hadn't given her any since yesterday afternoon and she started scratching again. I gave her 3 drops and about a couple hours later, again, her scratching is gone. This product worked exceptionally on my dog. On the other hand, I don't think her issues were due to food allergies, vs environmental surroundings, my guess. I have a cat that has a tendency to lick patches of fur off her front legs when the weather turns either warm or cold in the summer and winter. The vet told me it's likely due to seasonal allergies. Well, after a couple of years of having to take the cat to the vet twice a year and spending upwards of $200 each time, I looked for an alternative and came across Hot Spots. The next time my cat licked her normal patch of fur, I squeezed a few drops onto her wet food a few times a day. Within a few weeks the patch began to heal and the fur grew back. Amazing! This product clarifies your sinuses- among other things! I actually LOVED this tea tree oil. I used it as a hair/scalp oil about once a week. I grew to adore the tingles from the oil and my hair was shiny and thriving. I went through a number of bottles with this routine. I did eventually stop. I cannot tell you why because I do not remember. I ran out of product and for whatever reason did not buy more. That said, I do recommend it. It is a great scalp treatment, which is my experience with it; I know others who use it for acne treatments; it is a fabulous beard oil; there are 100s more uses for the oil! It does of course smell strongly – especially in this form where it is not diluted by any other scent, but I found it refreshing and delightful. Still, be advised if scent bothers you.
I always try to have some tea tree oil around since it has so many uses. This particular one is of excellent quality! I use it on skin for blemishes, rashes, bug bites?I also use it in humidifiers during the winter to keep the water clean. I recently discovered another amazing use for it! I received a bunch of fresh cut roses for my birthday and used a few drops of tea tree oil in the water after running out of the plant food that was included with them. To my astonishment, the roses started growing new baby leaves along their stems! I bought this online to give it a try for my son and I. We've used the thayers alcohol free pads before. They worked great. These ones however were awful. My son used them yesterday and he was fine. Today he used them and got the worst allergic reaction. Immediate redness all over his face and neck, welts along his jaw with little white bumps. Immediately we rinsed it off and now it looks like he has a chemical burn. Do not get this one!!! Get the alcohol free formula. My male cockapoo had started scratching and biting at his skin about a few months ago , it got so bad to the point where he wouldn’t stop until his skin was completely raw and bleeding and we had to keep a cone on him at all times. I have no big toe joints left in my feet. Other than surgery, which the doctor told me I would have done, there was nothing I could do about it. I ordered this and was sent a different product with a different label from the one shown. As it turns out the ingredient ichthammol 20% reads the chemical name – (which I didn't know) Ammonium bituminosulfonate 20% And the label has Amber Petrolatum and Anhydrous Lanolin. I wish they would show the Ingredients LABEL for viewing BEFORE ordering. The main reason for the 2 stars is that it has NO SMELL. It has been my experience that all Ichthammol 20% drawing salve that I have ever used (I am over half a century old) has a strong odor. So I have no idea what this is in comparison nor why it doesn't have the smell. So I am returning it mainly because it doesn't smell and I have no knowledge of amber petrolatum or hydrous lanolin.
