My dog suffers from hot spots on his feet and it makes him just miserable as one heals and another pops up in a different spot. My vet recommended I try a shampoo formulated specifically for hot spots and I found this at a major online retailer. A sixteen ounce bottle ran me about $7 as an add on item which I thought was quite economical since my dog is so small and that one bottle should last me through many, many washes. The formula uses Tea Tree Oil, Aloe Vera, Chamomile to calm dry, itchy skin and despite being a bit strong smelling during the bathing process the smell does not linger after drying. After the first bath with this I noticed a definite improvement in my dog's spots and he seemed more relaxed and less prone to lick the sore areas. After a month of weekly baths his spots were gone and they have not reappeared since. He also had a bit of a dandruff problem during the summer as he likes to sit outside and sunbathe which dries out his skin. My little chihuahua will not eat her Pet Fresh food with this ground up in the food. I cut the tiny pink pill in half and crushed it into her bowl. She will smell her food and walk away, so this has not worked for her itchy problem. The pills might work for other breeds, but not for me. Apoquel has done wonders for my German Shepherd who recently developed seasonal allergies at six years old. He was scratching and biting at himself 24/7 and he caused an infection on his foot from the constant licking. I am a vet assistant, and I see all kinds of animals coming in with different skin conditions or allergies and always felt so bad for them and their owners….. then I got a dog with allergies and then I found out what it's really like…. it is devastating watching your dog itch and scratch to the point of pulling their hair out, then when the hair is gone… then there goes their skin…. they will make themselves bleed and still won't stop. I tried benadryl I tried EVERYTHING, had to even do skin antibiotics and steroid Injections and still he was itching…. so… the dr tried him on this….. now… first thing I will say is this medication isn't cheap especially for bigger dogs (if you have a 10lbs dog it's not going to be too bad) but my poor dog had to start off taking 2 16mg 2 times a day and it was roughly 300 for the first month, however from there you taper down and after a few months I got him down to half a tablet once daily…. anyway…. this medication worked like a dream for him. He hasn't had any issues for over a year now and although sometimes he scratches its more of a normal itch. This medication literally saved him and my sanity. I received the chews and immediately gave my puppy 2 of them. She really liked them, she itches. most of the time. But the vet says she needs some type of injection to stop it completely. I don't like to give my puppy any shots but her yearly Injection for rabies. We used this product on our grand dog. He was a scaly, crusty mess and had lost most of his hair. We took him to the vet and put him a regimen of medicated shampoo, oral antibiotics and an immunomodulator. We used the Skin Soother immediately after his daily bath. We also have him the salmon treats daily. I believe this product helped him regain his health. His color came back and all the scales and itching were gone. So I bought another. Even though the regimen is over, we are still bathing him regularly and applying the Skin Soother. That was over a month ago and he continues to look better than ever! My pug had a dark bald spot on his neck from scratching and I was looking for something that would hopefully heal the area and let his hair grow back. I discovered the skin soother and decided to give it a try and this worked like magic! I ordered the 2 oz stick version and loved it. The application was great. It was very easy and clean to apply overall. I applied it to the area twice a day for two weeks before I was able to start seeing results. The hair started growing back and the dark skin was lightening up and becoming less dry and flaky. At the same time, my dog was scratching at it less so that was a plus. Only thing is this stick was practically gone by my second week. It would not have come close to lasting the month. That being said, I had to order another to see continued results but I ordered the larger tin instead. My only issue with this product is the tin is a lot harder to apply. The texture itself is not as soft and smooth as the stick. I also had to use my own hands to spread it on which I did not like at all. It also gets messy in the tin as my pug sheds so there is now hair stuck in the product. My recommendation to the company would be to have the stick in a larger option and I would gladly purchase that. However, currently I greatly regret purchasing two of the tins instead of the smaller sticks. All in all, this product works and I would buy it again! My standard poodle suffers from outdoor allergies. After battling them all summer the vet just said to double up on benadryl. I felt like I was drugging my dog. I saw an ad for these chews and thought it would be a better option to at least give it a try. My boy wasn't sure about the taste the first day and I had to wrap it in cheese. The second day, and every day since, he's gobbled it right down just like a treat! To test the results I totally stopped the benadryl and only gave him these chews. Wow is right, because I am floored at how well this works! I have 2 pups with horrible allergies – one that nothing else works for. I've tried all different meds, including shots, and she still suffered horribly during allergy season. I reluctantly decided to try this, but we were in the middle of allergy season, and watching her suffer is just too much. Fast forward to July 2019, and my order came in the mail. My dog suffers from hot spots on his feet and it makes him just miserable as one heals and another pops up in a different spot. My vet recommended I try a shampoo formulated specifically for hot spots and I found this at a major online retailer. A sixteen ounce bottle ran me about $7 as an add on item which I thought was quite economical since my dog is so small and that one bottle should last me through many, many washes. The formula uses Tea Tree Oil, Aloe Vera, Chamomile to calm dry, itchy skin and despite being a bit strong smelling during the bathing process the smell does not linger after drying. After the first bath with this I noticed a definite improvement in my dog's spots and he seemed more relaxed and less prone to lick the sore areas. After a month of weekly baths his spots were gone and they have not reappeared since. He also had a bit of a dandruff problem during the summer as he likes to sit outside and sunbathe which dries out his skin. Since I started using this shampoo his dandruff has disappeared completely as well! Overall, I definitely recommend this! The slight smell is definitely worth it for the results!capers01
Very best natural shampoo on the market. My little morky is allergic to flea bites and if even one gets on her she will start scratching and all her hair starts falling out yntil we do something to get them off her which is usually a pill and a good bath to clean off the eggs this shampoo does exactly what its advertised to do and I hope they never stop making it. Oh and when using it from the start to finish it has a clean fresh kindve minty smell to it and leaves my little morky named sally smelling that way too for several days after her bath. LOVE Vet's Best Hot Spot shampoo. My dog developed seasonal allergies a few years ago and was sneezing and itching SO badly she was ripping her fur out in multiple places. There were a few times that it was so bad we ended up getting her an allergy shot from the vet, but I did not like the side effects of that shot. So one year I got the Vet's Best Shampoo after doing some research online and found this to be a life saver. It smells good and really seemed to ease and soothe her hot, itchy, irritated skin. Her skin was getting raw in some spots where she couldn't stop itching and this seems very gentle on her skin and calmed the irritation down.
