I have owned this system for a yr and run 3 collars on it. At first it worked great 4 months in a collar stopped working it would show red light like charging but would never come on so i purchased another one 130 bucks (wow) with in weeks same thing to my other one called tech support this time they walked me theough how to turn it on (at this point i laughed at the begining of the call i stated i have had the system a year) they told me it must be broke and buy a new one. Well broke to me is nothing working but i have red light on charging and stays red for hours 8 to be exact on both of them so this is trash and do not expect help from tech support. But buying one of these every year is not cheap either. 🙁 Fortunately, when I called PetSafe I spoke to a very helpful rep who offered to replace the collar for me. I'm very grateful and very happy about this, since it is a very nice collar and easy to use. Here's hoping the failure of the first one was a fluke! I probably will ultimately get another one for one of the other dogs (we have 3!) once we use up all of the batteries we have. While I'm only giving three stars for the collar due to the short lifespan, I would definitely rate service at 5 stars!DigitMom

I really like the walk, distance and step tracking. It does a better job than my phone at showing where we've walked! It improves over time as new features are added, and the battery is lasting longer than it did when I first got it. Some training is necessary, so the pup knows what to do if it goes off. I have had my wireless system for 10 yrs, best money I've ever invested. My 85 lb Australian shepherd mix has total respect when set at #4. She will not leave the yard and has all the room to run she needs. And she is a runner. When the transmitter cord went out (after probly 5 or 6 yrs) they sent me free replacement in like 2 days. The Dogtra Arc collar is just what my American Treeing Feist, 11 month puppy needed. I had borrowed the same collar from my daughter for about a month, but she needed it back, so for the past two months he had begun to get a little independent in the woods. As soon as I put the new Arc collar around his neck, he was a changed dog. Even without paging him, he began to hunt about 75 yards out and would return to check on me every few minutes. Whenever he gets out of sight, and seems to wander too long, I simply "page" him about three seconds and he comes running. Only twice in the past week have I had to stimulate him, somewhere between level 6 and 11. Then for a day or two after that, only the pager button is needed to turn him around. I purchased this one as I wanted a wireless version vs the perimeter one I had to bury. We use this when we go fishing as well as around the house. We have only had to use the continuous shock once at level 2. The tone works so well we dont really need the other features but we have them just in case, our dog decides to be really stubborn in the future. My favorite is how easy it is to use, charge and the fact the tone is the best way to get my dog's attention. It has not taken long for him to know the remote goes to his collar and that just showing him he knows to heel or the tone sound will come on and get his attention quickly. My sister is purchasing one as well since my purchase, as she has seen how much it has helped our strong willed dog. He just needed a little extra guidance for his safety as we live off a highway and next to woods with coyotes. Literally bought this as my second attempt first was a petsafe wireless fence and it wasn’t as user friendly as this petsport with a remote. I’m able to keep basic corrections in house and outside in the yard! I was worried it wouldn’t be small enough for my mini Heeler but the collar comes with an abundant amount of holes for proper fit on anything ! Supper pleased with the collar and the three bases it has for training. The beep tone the one hit simulation and the longer hit stimulation gives me theee options to ask my dog according to what she’s doing. I like that it can be supper mild and allow her the chance to be asked nicely and then reinforced mildly and then reinforcement with a sterner setting. A true life saver. My pup was running out to the neighbors across the street and up to meet cars it literally only took thirty mins in house training on basics and then outside yard training for a little under an hour! I am now no longer stressed about her getting hurt she comes right back to me and treats me as I am her safe spot! This was a game changer for our dog. Several very bad behaviors/habits were corrected within a week of getting this collar. Obviously your results will depend on your dog and how you use this, but this was an invaluable tool for training our dog. Some details: 1) We find that the charge lasts a couple of days (we take it off and turn it off at night when the dog is sleeping). 2) Range is at least a few hundred yards. Never have tested out to the advertised 400 yd range. 3) The vibrate feature is very helpful (and pretty much the only thing we have had to use since the initial training). 4) The "Nick" shock feature is a great attention getter for the dog. 5) The range of shock levels provides everything from you can hardly notice it to pretty intense.In PDX

I purchased this and trained my dog Neko with it with a professional trainer a few months ago. This device was a lifesaver. Neko is a Shiba inu and they are extremely high energy, love to run and are very intelligent and curious. Neko escaped my fenced yard 4 times by digging, and I have heard that some Shibas can jump and scale fences up to 8ft. So I defitly needed something. I’ve tested this on myself and the “shock” is not so bad if you stay below 20 it just allows the dog to “hear” you in stressful or loud/distracting situations, and it lets them connect the command with the action without you chasing them or forcing them into it. I associate the commands sit, stay, Come, place, free, off and heel with the unit and now she is such an amazing dog, and I don’t have to worry!!eri.v

The 435 X series is really nice and has a small remote control that fits into my hand (I am only 5'4). The XS series is stronger (for large dogs that can be stubborn) and was too much for my need… that's why I really wanted the X series. The 825 X is the same as the 425 X except is has a longer distance reach (1/2 mile) but the remote is a little big bigger. Works great…. make sure you read the manual for the different settings and understand that this is not a training tool per say but a corrective tool (meaning your dog has to know and understand commands BEFORE using it)…Do NOT use as a punitive tool. The nice thing is this item allows you to choose either tone, vibration, or static mode. 99% of the time I only need to use vibration for my dog to get his attention (he cN get sobfocused on a scent that he doesn't pay attention to my commands). He sometimes takes off after a rabbit/wild pig etc. and that's when I have to use the static mode to quickly get his attention away from his chase. I really like that it is waterproof (my dog swims into ponds and rivers)…some other brands claim to be waterproof but really mean to say water resistant! I have tried everything I knew with this dog, built a relationship with him, treats, toys, praise and I wasn’t able to find anything that would motivate him to actually follow the commands that I knew he knew. I was afraid to use a “shock collar” because I thought it was going to be cruel but it had been 5 months where this 3 year old pit was with me and there seemed to be no progress. I really was not able to find something that worked. I was at a loss and willing to try just about anything. I watched some of the training videos on sportdog’s page. I ended up buying this and I charged it up like they said. I then tried it on myself first. I was very surprised, it reminded me of a tens machine that the chiropractor uses, not what I thought it was going to be at all. It’s been 3 days since I started to use this collar (425XS) and he is responding to voice commands now and the “beep” function on the collar. This really is a tremendously different product. 127 settings seemed overwhelming to me. As I use this more and more as I train my dog, I’m able to see what that really means. In the past, collars I’ve used only had a few settings, so moving up or down a notch so to say was a dramatic difference, while the dogtra allows me to fine tune the stim very minimally until I find my dogs “number” for the variety of situations. I feel this is really helping the bond with my dog and therefore training is improved.MountainGSD

I bought the Dogtra 280C to use with my very active and agile 1 year old Toy Austrailian Sheppard for stopping unwanted behaviors like digging up my lawn and attacking the cat. The transmitter and receiver both hold charges for days, and easily sync by just holding the two units next to one another at the red dots for a second. The 1/2 mile range is more than enough to reach out and touch her for a friendly reminder to come in for supper. The LCD screen is super nice to see stimulation level at night or when I don't have my glasses with me. We installed the in ground wire around the perimeter of our property. I have one dog that digs under our fence and one that climbs the fence. These collars keep our dogs away from the fence and keeps them from running out into the street. We have had our fence for 5 years now and only replaced the collars once because I misplaced them. Batteries need replacement every few months. I like that the dogs get a beeping warning once they are within a few feet of the perimeter and only get shocked if they cross the boundary.fldolphinmc

I have a lab / hound mix that is 11 years old and she weighs about 85lbs. We began usin this collar since April 2017 and within 3 months, one of the prongs broke off. We contacted petsafe and were told that this is an uncommon problem and that the only way this could happen is due to "rough play, hitting it against an object, over-tightening the probes, etc." I have a hard time believing our senior aged dog plays rough enough to break the prongs of a durably made product. If you have a larger / sporting breed dog, i would steer clear of this product and go with Invisible Fence or the SportDOG brand from another retailer. They seem to cater to larger / sporting breeds. We've had our fence under a year, no problems with the actual fence. We have 2 dogs on the fence, 1 is an English Mastiff and the other is a Cocker Spaniel. The Cocker Spaniel's clip/closure cracked and broke off so we had to go out and search almost an acre of property to find it. We did find it but it is a PAIN to have to go out and search for a collar that you would not expect to break. Recently our English Mastiff has been strolling off the property, she has never done that in the almost year we have had it. First think I did was check the battery and decided to be safe we would change it!! That didn't work so I decided to take off the collar and check it to make sure it worked and it does but there are certain times when it don't. I have it on the highest frequency and I'm hoping this works, I will keep you informed. But us like others are missing the clear caps that cover the button to change the frequency. I don't understand how these pieces can come off unless we take them off, this tells me that there is a malfunction in your manufacturing if we are not the only ones missing these caps!! Then to top it off, you sell these clear caps and expect us to pay for them, something doesn't seem right. If you know these clear caps come off, shouldn't you be trying to fix this issue and offer those caps or free? ​Rich T

If anyone has ever owned a husky or even know about the breed they are escape artist. My yard I thought was husky proof…apparently not. We used chicken wire around the fence so she couldn’t climb the fence, we put chicken wire in the ground so if she dug she’d hit that and we had done other things to the yard. Anyway long story short one day her and my sister dog got out of the yard and this was one of our last resorts. At first I was really frustrated with the product and upset that my husky would run out of the barrier and not care about the shock. I spent time training her where she was allowed to go and where she wasn’t. My sisters dog was easy to train, she got shocked once and knew not to go past It. FINALLY after months my husky stays where she’s supposed to and doesn’t go outside of It. They dogs still have 80% of the yard to run and play in. I have a pretty big back yard. Depending on your dog is might be the best option for you to keep your pet safe inside your yard. I still do not trust the fence 100% just because I know how my dog is.jacqueline.t

I've loved the fence since we got in it April but over the last couple weeks the collar and transmitter haven't seem to be communicating right. There's been no change to location and collar is always charged. Dog has been seen outside of normal boundary (which he doesn't breach). Upon bringing him back and checking the boundary again with him the collar on doesn't beep or give any indication the boundary has been breached. I've tried removing and walking the boundary holding it at dog level and it worked, put it back on dog bring him to the boundary and he walks right through with nothing. Try it again then all of a sudden it works. I don't have any idea what the heck is going on but it's confusing to my dog and it teaching him that sometimes he can breach the boundary with no consequences.Bburgess

I checked your product in a pet store yesterday and thought that the receivers for the collars were very large and clumsy. Do you make smaller receivers for small dogs. We purchased this product to contain our black Lab Robodog. He is a very determined dog and we were skeptical that any non-physical barrier would contain him. We purchased the High Tech Pet fence and it really changed our lives. It took about 4 hours to install the wire around our 3/4 acre yard. Set up took just minutes. The training was simple and easier than we thought. Robodog was trained and contained in a total of 4 days! Now, he respects the boundary and has stopped chasing after the neighbor's cats and other animal friends and doggie distractions. We now have piece of mind letting him out. The Humane Contain electronic fence is clearly the best one on the market. I am an electronics engineer and a pet owner so, I am aware of the top notch engineering done in the pet field by High Tech Pet Products, the manufacturer of this system. But, I still did my homework before deciding which product was best for my home and my two dogs. I looked at features, specifications and price and decided the Humane Contain system, provided that it lived up to its claims, was the best value to be found. Upon receiving the product from Sam’s Club, I must say that I was impressed with the quick shipping and, most of all, the quality of the product. The base station transmitter is fully water sealed for outdoor mounting which was a plus for me because I wanted to mount the unit on the outside wall of my utility shed. It has a rechargeable battery back-up which I have not seen on any other electronic fence. The transmitter has a user display with an array of illuminated indicators that show you status of the battery, the field wire, the power mode and the overall system condition. I found this very useful because it let’s me see the system condition at a glance. I also noticed that it alerts you with an audible tone when the back-up battery charge is low. There is also an audible warning if the field wire becomes disconnected or broken. The large field adjustment knob is also a good idea. Of course, I couldn’t help but hook it up to an oscilloscope to check out its radio properties. The transmitter works at 14 kilohertz. This is different from the what competing systems that state an operating frequency of 7 – 10 kilohertz. This means that the Humane Contain was not likely to be affected by my neighbor’s electronic fence. I also noticed that the radio signal is very well generated with a digital code embedded in the signal. Pretty advanced stuff for a dog product. The collar also seems to be unique in that it delivers its shock stimulus in short pulses. This seemed curious to me until I read the manual which states that this works better at teaching the dog to respect the boundary without immediately causing trauma and confusion. In training my dogs this appears to be the case although, I have not tried others brands for a comparison. The collar is fully waterproof – a big, big plus – and it has a built-in test button that sends it through a diagnostic mode verifying that the battery, radio receiver and output stimulus are working. Another major concern is the collar battery life. The unit uses a proprietary battery, something which I did not like at first because you have to get them from Sam’s Club or a Humane Contain dealer. I purchased the extra battery 12 pack to be safe. After using this system for nearly a year now, I am happy to report that the collar batteries are lasting about three months so I am set on batteries for a few years. Hands down, the most impressive feature this fence has to offer is the proportional stimulus. As the dog approaches the boundary the rate of shock pulses increases. One of my dogs stops within the first few pulses. The other one (surprisingly the smaller one) goes much closer to the boundary wire and is willing to take more shocks before finally giving up and retreating back toward the house. I really like how the system is designed to tailor the shock to match the individual temperament of my dog’s. All in all, I was pleased that I made the right selection by purchasing this system from Sam’s Club. I believe it is not just the best product for the money but, the best engineered electronic dog fence at any price!Ebob

My BF and I adopted a 7month old black lab. We live in the country with 45 acres, and know we wanted him to be able to run freely. However, he was getting more confident and running away to far off neighbors yards and not coming back. So, after a lot of research, and reading reviews about this product, we made the purchase, ordered a few extra spools of wire, and haven't looked back yet! We have changed the settings around a few times, especially during training, and are so happy with the product. The beeping & pulsating of the collar before the actual jolt is just perfect for our lab. He gets his warning and is already on the retreat before it gets intense. He hasn't tried to run through it, and when the line has broken, it was a very easy quick fix. the Instructions were 100% helpful, and training was a cinch! Having the double collars is awesome too, we switched out the tough plastic collar with a real-tree camo vinyl collar for the spring/summer and a blaze orange reflective one for the fall/winter. adding the transmitter piece was very easy too! Whoever has had a problem with PetSafe products? Ok, maybe my dogs do if they sneak out of range setting 6 on the collar will make your dog come off the ground like a bass breaking water setting 4 is definitely enough. I have never had a problem. I have been using PetSafe for at least 15 years. I wired a half acre lot and I just open the door and out my 2 dogs go and I know they are safe. We live in the middle of Dallas. I really like how it has worked over the years except….. Using the 16 ga. wire supplied, I used to get failure in the system. The receiver box would be beeping and not working. I would have to rewire sections of the wire for it to again work properly. This happened 5 or 6 times until I rewired the whole yard perimeter with 14 ga. wire. The system has never gone down since I did this 6 or 7 years ago. I give this a 5 star rating using 14 ga. wire.Lake

This collar works well with our older Instant Fence unit. We purchased it for our small (9lb) 9 month old pup. It fits her well, and is not to big for her. There is plenty of adjustment in the collar for different sized dogs. The battery life is excellent and she has responded well to wearing it in our yard. I only wish that it had an additional mode for a vibration alert as well as sound. It would also be nice to have a louder sound for us people. When training a small dog I had to bend over to try and hear the alert as we approached the boundary. But in the end, as long as the dog hears the sound, that's all that matters. Great way to keep your pet safe in your yard. When I called pet safe for information, the customer service rep. was very helpful in choosing the right collar for our needs. That helped a lot.3 pines

Have bought two collars for two separate uses the 1900S and YS600 both are working perfectly for their intended purposes, the 1900S I love the way the remote allows greater control so the action can be more closly aligned with the action you want to correct without the harassment of searching for the controller and the button, better for me and better for the dog.Michael F.

By far the best price that I could find. The UltraLight Receiver Collar was in perfect shape and in excellent working order. The only condition issue was that the battery was nearly dead. We have a Goldendoodle dog and we bought this system when we adopted almost two years ago. We purchased this system because it was recommended to us and I wish I would have done more research. Our Goldendoodle dog's collar cracked in half about a month ago. My husband and I are extremely furstated becase there are no other collars that are compatible with this system. A replacement collar will be around $150, which is also more expensive than competitors replacement collars. What really infuriates me is reading other costumers reviews and realizing, I will need to buy several other replacements throughout the course of my dog's life because he is still farely young. My husband and I are serisouly considering getting rid of our entire PetSafe system and install a new system because factoring in the projected cost of replacement collars that we will mostly likely go through is A LOT MORE than the cost of an entire new system and to have the new system professional instally. I understand there is a one year warranty, but from the reviews I am reading, along with my own experience, the collars conveniently break/crack after the year is up. I am very disappointed and upset because until we are able to get our dog a new collar, or new system he is the one who suffers. We LOVE our dog, we live on a large piece of land, which he loves to roam. Unfortnately, we can not let him roam because without his collar he roams out of our property. My husband and I are scared he will roam out onto the main roadway that is close to our property. We have two collars for the YardMax system that we have used for years. We lost our two elderly dogs and now have two 10 mo old German Shepherds. The system was easy to train the new dogs on but the pups are destroying these collars! I have had to order numerous replacement receivers and repeated collars – and they are only 10 mo. old! I've had this fence for around 2 1/2 years. Works awesome. But the collars are awful. The strap goes around the electronics, so anything that pulls on the collar breaks off the plastic tabs and then done, another $150, just as others here have stated. I don't care about a 1-year warranty. For this kind of money, it should be 5 years! Also feel that after ALL these reviews and still no design change, I wonder what the real PetSafe motive is here, to get us to keep buying collars? Since I upgraded to the thickest wire possible, now looking at other systems that can use the same wire but have better collars, as I've already spent more on collars than I did on the whole original fence. Bought this last fall for upland hunting and general training for my GSP. Worked amazing. I had it in sub zero temps in the dakotas pheasant hunting and got it soaking wet duck hunting, functioned flawlessly. I very seldom have to shock him now, he responds to the vibrate function. I bought this after researching for several months. I have a buy once cry once mentality and am glad I paid a little extra. I love the digital reading so I know exactly what level of stimulation I am giving him. I actually tried it out on myself before I put it on my dog. I really couldn't feel anything until I got to level 20. My dog started acknowledging it at level 30, and that is where it has stayed. I haven't ever needed any more than that. Range is good, I do not like the settings for the shock control are not able to be locked! You can set it on setting 30 and put transmitter in pocket. When you remove it from pocket it maybe on 50! You also have to turn transmitter on and off! Other units do not use power unless control buttons are pressed!Jim

I have two boxers and have plenty of collar length so I feel that they would fit a very large dog. The control works well and is easy to manipulate. I can easily use the vibrate and shock buttons. The only "oops" thing that could happen is hitting the control shut off and shock button at the same time. The control shut off button is on one side of the unit and the shock buttons are on the opposite side. So when I am holding the control unit in one hand to shut it off, I have to be careful not to push the shock button in response to the pressure I am putting on the shut off button. Therefore I remove the collars before I shut the unit off. I am very happy with this product.boxer mum

Love the sport dog system. I have a hound and a dog that loves to chase squirrels and the wire fence and collars keep them safe and contained. Sport dog customer service is great! Only wish that I bought the system that was compatible with the remote trainer as well.Ash12345
