Have had this door for 3 years and it's still going strong. was easy to install, but I have to replace the seal strip every year or so. Big enough door for my husky, but not too high for my miniature collie to get through. I have only encountered one problem, the flap is a bit on the loud side. First off, I bought the medium sized door (11×8), which is claimed to be for medium pets weighing up to 35 pounds. There would be no way a pet weighing that much could fit through the door. This size door is more for small pets (cats, which I have that weigh 10 to 15 pounds). So I made the right choice by going bigger. It's the perfect size for them, and they get through the door comfortably. A small door would have been a tight squeeze. I installed this pet door against the patio door that doesn't slide. That was the only way that made sense, and would also provide some form of security. Installing this against the sliding door would not work, would not seal, and would not lock. Buy yourself some extra weather stripping (the soft stuff). The hard weather stripping provided with this door is useless. Be prepared to improvise and buy extra hardware to actually make this door fit securely and work with the patio doors. My extra expenses were $35. All in all, I'd recommend the door, but be prepared to do a fair amount of work to make it fit securely. But still this is not buglar proof. It will be an easy access point for someone to break into your home. I don't see how this, or any pet door, could be made completely secure.Mensa8

Had one of these for about ten years and bought a new one. One of our dogs damaged the old one by trying to run in when the panel was inserted to keep him out while a worker was in the house. This broke two of the screws away from the plastic frame. Even though it says aluminum pet door, the only aluminum part is the white door frame. The brown frame around it is plastic as is the wall tunnel. Since we now needed to replace the flaps, it costs just as much to get a whole new one as it did to replace the flaps. Now for the new one – Had it installed for less than a month and spring loaded knob on insert panel is broken (called for free replacement under one year warranty). Door panel flap lengths are adjustable, but don't seem as thick (and durable) as old ones. If this hadn't been a replacement project of an existing one, not sure if I would have decided to install this one or look at other options.AZTom
I am on my 3rd PetSafe door. I started with a smart door but I got tired of constantly changing batteries. I have 4 dogs. I got the double flap door. After about 1.5 years the plastic piece that holds the flaps started to break (little pieces at a time). There is no replacement part for this so I had to purchase a new door. PetSafe did give me a reduced price. Now, I have gorilla tape holding my one remaining flap on this door,since the same part is breaking once again. This is a great dog door for a medium size dog. It is a deluxe unit with dual flaps for maximum weather protection. It also has a slide-in closing door with a secure lock. It looks stylish and it fits (one of our main concerns) through the section of the house that has brick. We had a professional install the unit, unfortunately, it was a little higher on the outside than the dog would have liked (see picture above) which hindered her from going back into the door. I solved this problem by ordering something called the Ten-Eighty Mini Launch Ramp for about $30. It is designed for skate boards and bicycles but it will also work in this application. I needed a little modification to sit flush with the wall and I had it carpeted so the dog wouldn't slip in cold weather. Now the dog goes in and out of the door effortlessly. The advertisement for this door does not give you the measurements needed for the wall or door opening which would help in determined the size you order. They are not clear on the fact that this unit is for the door and not the wall. They offer a wall kit for more money if you intend to install this in the wall. The wall kit is not needed if you are a handyman type person but you will have to go to the hardware store and buy longer screws because they are only available when you buy the wall kit. We have a seven month old puppy with tiny bladder syndrome so she needs to go outside frequently. However, we also have two cats with feline leukemia and they must stay inside. We ordered this door and it arrived quickly. It took a few hours to install it in the porch wall, mostly time consuming because of the type of wall we had. Once it was in, it only took a couple of days to teach the pup to use it. It’s not very loud so that is good. The delay between the time the dog approaches the door and the time it opens is fairly quick. We were a bit worried that the male cat (who wants to be the man about town) would follow the dog out because the delay from the time the dog goes out and the door shuts seems rather long. However, the cat realized pretty quickly that he couldn’t get outside by himself so he lost interest in trying after a couple of days. We are quite pleased with the dog door. The only problem we had is the collar that the sensor is on. It didn’t stay snug around her neck so she managed to take it off and chew up the sensor. We are ordering a new sensor and I am going to sew it directly onto her regular collar and hope that will fix the problem. This item is so flimsy that it cannot in any form be regarded as secure. I had to screw it into place because the twist tabs were not strong enough to hold it at the right height. Excellent opening size for our pet who is 18 lbs. I purchased the Medium opening. Our sliding door is a custom height of 12 FT, not a normal height, so using the extension included with the patio panel still doesn’t reach the top of the sliding door, which of course is not the problem of the manufacturer of this product. We remedied the problem by using and cutting to size a disposable hard foam cooler, fitted with a foam edge window and door sealer in order to eliminate cool and hot air from coming in and out. It’s not perfect, but works for our pet and for our use.Grace

Only problem we have is that we have 3 dogs and one is a pug, other two are big 80lb even though rated for 100lb dogs and I measured them, for out dogs was a little short., I fixed by adding a small block under raising it an inch. but the 4-5' rise really does work for small dog. The XL version may have been better. But only came in white and more expensive. Been a couple weeks now and the bigger dogs are doing great. Pug, we open the slider for him. We have had our door since about 2004. The product is top notch. I don't think Plexidor was making theirs at the time but this is about half the price. I have very large dogs, this is much more convenient to allow my dog to be able to get out when they need to; but it doesn't allow intruders in. Especially now that they are older. One of ours is slightly to tall for the door but she ducks to get through it. The only thing I wish is that they made this one size taller. With a really big dog that's the true problem is stopping people from crawling through your human sized dog door. I have never had problems with my collars, though after losing two dogs years ago we misplaced one collar and ended up buying the MS-4 eventually to replace it. But they all work. We have the invisible fence collars to, but found them bulky especially with the prongs. We didn't like the rechargeable collar, wasn't worth the extra price. Didn't work w/ the larger dog since she was to tall and the smaller dog hated it since it was big and bulky. It worked with the invisible fence system also, so it had the big prongs to. Stick with the MS-4 which you can get the most reasonable currently. But we have a old MS-2 that is working still 10+ years after we bought the system. My only issues are that I would prefer to have a system that used the RFID technology and I would really love if they would make a taller dog door. My dog is easily 25"+ high at the shoulder so she ducks through the door. But it's not cost effective to buy the Plexidor instead, when it is not taller and I have used the Power Pet door successfully for so long and I know how well it works. Batteries in the collars last a really long time, longer than I expect them to. I think in the past year we may have changed them 3 times. Occasionally one of our dogs takes out a battery a little sooner by going for to many swims in the pool, pretty sure they are only water resistant as of the MS-4 still.Alysa
Our dog has a chronic issue with colitis. He can't hold it more than 4 hours. He gets up several times a night to use the bathroom. it's almost like having a newborn. In the past this has made our lives difficult. Paying for expensive daycare, or having to take extra time at lunch to come home and let him out. If we went out with friends we had to make sure we could stop back at home after a few hours to let him out. It also interrupted our sleep every night. (For 6 freaking years!!) And due to the colitis, cleaning up after, well let's just say I don't remember the last time his stool was hard. So this technology has been a true godsend for us. Our lives have been soooo much improved by buying and installing this door. Rockets life to. It really has been the best investment we have ever made. When we bought the door we were in the process of moving and it's been 6 months now. We lost the screws that came with the kit and ended up buying some. I was afraid they wouldn't fit perfectly and the door would fall off or cold air would get in the winter. So far so GREAT. We are still on the first battery and it has really worked well. Our only issue, after 6 years of asking to go to the bathroom, whining or pacing at the door, Rocket still sometimes begs us before he remembers he can use the door himself. I have a large dog (80 lbs) and was looking for a pet door that he could get through, but a normal adult person couldn't. I liked the door, the size and the frame. However I found that when you install it, even after using the top & bottom stabilizer, that fits the height of the door but it was very loose. I went to the hardware store and picked up some 1/2" by 1 1/4" trim and drilled into the frame (being careful of the glass). I put it in inside and out. That really stabilized the door. I had to be careful not to drill into the sliding glass door frame because I only rent. So I am very happy with the door fit. However, I find the small light metal "locking system" to be totally lame. The particle board door could easily be compromised. The last pet door I had, in a house I owned, had a spring lock pin that could only be released from the inside. I am still trying to find a secure latch that fits into the small opening thumb hole that will secure the door. I think I can find one, but haven't yet. Summary: Like the door after my modifications. Still need a secure locking mechanism. Good quality, needs tweaking.Dog M.
The quality of the sliding pet door I purchased for just under $200 seemed fine, but I had to return it because it led to a balcony and my cats kept jumping on the balcony railing, so I could not leave them when I was not home. Therefore, I had to return the sliding pet door, and I lost nearly $100! I had to pay $60 shipping to return it, pay a 15% restocking fee, and lost the initial shipping of about $20.00. When I called them to return it, they even said I would not be charged a restocking fee, but they did anyway! I will NEVER order anything from Pet Doors again. ed note – We wish Pride wouldn't charge a restocking fee, but they do.
