I bought these for our senior dog who was on an antibiotic, but they arrived on her final day of the antibiotic so she did not have them. I instead began slowly giving them to our other senior dog who has had loose stools since we got her (2012), despite being on foods for sensitive stomachs and trialing other foods and medications. They have been helping her quite a bit and we are planning on buying more. Her stools are much more "normal" now. They key though is slowly getting them used to the product. We have other Zesty Paws products and have had to do the same thing.
I have been getting these probiotics for my dog for a while now, we've gone through 6 containers! After a vet visit we realized the importance of a probiotic to regulate his sensitive stomach and originally were using the Purina ProPlan powdered one that is sprinkled over food but prefer these! My dog can be a picky eater and after preparing his food he'll decide he doesn't want to eat it, wasting the probiotic (he eats wet food and I give him fresh food later if he didn't eat it). In this form he can choose to eat it whenever he wants and he thinks it's a treat. No more powder to deal with and getting the same great results!
We have been using this product for over a year now and we have not taken Dallas to the vet for digestive issues. He had pancreatitis and dealt with tons of gastrointestinal problems. We took our cat to the vet after he woke me up in the early morning howling in pain trying to urinate in the litter box. We discovered he had a UTI and his bladder was very inflamed and full of struvite stones. An overnight stay at the vet and a midnight run to the emergency vet for fear of stones or crystals for our cat who was diagnosed with FLUTD since he was a kitten, and being told each visit that it was just chronic inflammation (a frustrating but common side effect of FLUTD) and there wasnt much the vets could do other than pain meds and anti inflammatories. Needless to say we were ready to try some additional preventative care and heard good things about this product. Its been 2 months now of adding the tonic to our cat's prescription wet food and so far so good. This is an excellent product with the best ingredients to heal (not just treat) intestinal lining problems. My girl has a bad case of IBS and was constantly crying and in horrible pain even after I put her on an organic home made diet. I bought the power version and for 3 weeks I mixed it in with her wet food as directed and did NOT do anything. Her 24×7 pain was excruciating for her and for me so I did not give up. After doing a lot of research, I realized that similar 'human' products for the same problems suppose to be given 30 minutes before meals. So, I diluted it in water and added a bit of sweat potato (for taste) and gave it to her, 30 minutes before her food, and IT WORKED! Like a miracle her pain was gone. For the first time after 3 months she was able to sleep peacefully. She is 11 lb so I give her 1/8 tsp of the powder and ¼ tsp of sweat potato (for taste) diluted in 1-2 tablespoons of water, 20 minutes before her meals, 3 times per day. I also give her probiotics, digestive enzymes, DGL(Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice), and Seacure (contains L-glutamine which repairs the mucosal lining) all mix with her food and I am happy to said she is no longer in any pain and on her way to full recovery! My Bichon has inflammatory bowel disease which has caused loose stools sometimes with blood. I tried changing her food, but she still had bouts of it. Slippery elm helps heal the gut lining from gluten. Gluten is in wheat/barley/rye..oats/corn/rice. Rice is low in gluten. Wild rice has no gluten…is a grass. I am so happy with this product. I have tried many different probiotics on dogs over the years with mixed results. The only thing that worked for my current dog's soft stools was Metronidazole but I wasn't excited about keeping him on this antibiotic long term. I gave these a try and was immediately impressed by the improved stool consistency. At first he wouldn't eat the food as he is neophobic (fear of anything new). The light pink powder on his food was strange but eventually he gave in and ate it at night which caused a different problem. I got these for my father's Senior dog, Max. Max wandered into my parents' property as a puppy… must likely dropped off in the woods as were many strays in that area. There was always something wrong with his front leg and, due to his complete distrust of humans (my parents owned him for years before he let anyone touch him), we assume he was mistreated by the people who abandoned him.
