The most amazing book for any dog lover who wants the best for their pet. The book discusses differing cuts + how o do them so you can attempt these yourself or be able to evaluate how your groomer is doing. Originally, I started cutting out the mats on my Wheaton Terrier as he HATES to submit to brushing. Since I live in NY, it was too cold for a needed removal of his coat, but now he is comfortable, looks great + when the weather is warmed up Calvin will be visiting the groomer. Even if you have no intention of grooming your dog yourself, the book is full of interesting facts and just great reading. I bought this book after getting it from the library since I wanted to read it at my leisure as well as using it as a reference book. Bought this about a month ago trying to plan ahead for the cold weather and shedding. Decided to try it out when I got it even though it didn't really seem necessary. The amount of loose hair and dead, dry skin it loosened up was AMAZING! And this is on my horse who I groom everyday! My mare really loves it over her lower back and hindquarters. To all the Pet Lovers out there BEWARE!!! We purchased the pet grooming tool made by dyson to use on Maya (our Beagle/American Bull Dog mix). The tool is meant to remove loose hairs and feed them into the vacuum using the attachment. We used this tool on Maya exactly as directed and for about 5-7 minutes. Ten minutes later we see that she is bleeding a great deal all over her back! We felt horrible!!! Immediately, I went back to the package instructions to see if we may have missed a precaution and surely we DID NOT! Poor Maya was bleeding a lot and we felt horrible! We called Dyson and told them exactly what happened. The gentleman that we spoke with apologized and said that her breed (according to the labeling) should not have suffered like this. We then asked him to forward this information on to the "higher ups" and have them contact us regarding the problem with the tool. We received a call back today from the gentleman we originally spoke with and he said nothing would be done aside from forwarding this information on to the "marketing" department to see how they would like to update the precautions section of the instructions. So despite our Maya suffering, Dyson did not even think to compensate in any fashion. Instead the response in not so many words was that our dog unfortunately suffered due to poor safety studies conducted for their product. Really Dyson, you didn't think Maya should have been compensated with a box of treats or a formal apology? Please please please, if you are a Pet Lover or just plain and simple have a heart DO NOT buy the Pet Grooming Tool by Dyson. While its a bit pricey, all of my vacuum products are Dyson and I would definitely recommend this attachment to anyone with at least a mid-sized dog or larger with mid-length hair or longer. I bought this as a desperate measure to help compensate for my mid-sized dog (he's a true American breed at about 32-lb# who loves to shed his mid-length hair. I love this attachment for two reasons: #1# while it is not like a defurminator, it does a great job of brushing out loose hairs and #2# it seems like all the loose hairs are suctioned to the attachment #best part#! That means no longer being covered in your dog's hair as you brush them or no flyaway hairs in your immediate area #house, deck, etc.#. As someone who lives in an apartment-like area, this is a much appreciated bonus!! Like I said, this is not a defurminator-type brush as it does not de-shed your animal's undercoat. However, after using it on my ever-shedding dog at least once a week for the past three weeks I have definitely noticed a difference and so has my house! ; # My only words of caution regarding this product are the following 2 things: #1# It does attach to a vacuum, which a lot of animals don't like due to the noise factor. Luckily, my dog is pretty tolerant #especially with a lot of positive confirmation# and lets me use this on him. I have a German Shepherd that is a full time shedder. In the past, I have used a de-shedding brush outside, and spent $60 plus at the groomer every 6 to 8 weeks. This brush is AMAZING! Now, after I vac the floors, I then vac the dog and am always shocked at the amount of fur I'm trapping prior to it going airborne. What is even better, is how "fluffy" and well groomed she looks afterwards. The only slight negative is awkwardness, at first, of using the tool…having to push down on top while brushing her. I like to do everything I can to make sure my so-sweet-yet-frequently-annoying cat/kid is happy and healthy, so keeping as much fur out of her stomach (and off my furniture!) is a major goal. This glove helps me achieve that. She jumps up on the patio table and, while I pin her down and spin/flip her around with one arm, she flattens out, purrs and tries to bite and claw the glove when I go for her belly. I love to see how much loose fur and dirt comes off her! I’ve found that if I use my NON-glove hand to first stroke her fur up and against the grain, then follow that with the downward stroke of the glove, as recommended, it helps to grab even more loose fur. Use FIRM, steady strokes following the contours of your animals body, like you would curry-comb a horse. Get in all the nooks and crannies, including “wringing out” the tail a few times, and brushing from the base of the tail down the back and sides of the legs. The glove does not catch all the fur, like a magnet would, so be sure to do this someplace where you can see the fur that escapes the edges of the glove and wipe it up, or where you don’t care where the fur flies! My little finger slips out of its slot and the glove does twist a bit on my hand, but it’s workable. And I did find this or similar gloves on other websites for almost 1/2 the price, so just FYI. Great for our older dogs First let me say that I almost NEVER write product reviews, but feel like I would really like to write one for these Pet Grooming Gloves. We have two hairy, senior, sister German Shepherd dogs. Lots of dog hair to be had – it seems that just looking at them makes hair fly off of them. Regular grooming with the Furminator removes a lot of hair but the dogs will only tolerate its use on their backs and sides, due to tender arthritic joints and generalized soreness from aging. So, I thought I would give this product a try – and what a difference ! While the gloves do not remove quite as much as hair as the Furminator, there are other distinct advantages for their use. First, they can be easily used over the whole body – including legs, soft belly, tail, and even the head. All areas can actually be massaged, which the dogs clearly enjoy. The dogs LOVE this. In fact, as soon as they see the gloves they go into their happy dance, happy face mode, while hip-checking each other out of the way to be first in line. Since using the gloves for a while now it seems that the quality of their coats is actually better – perhaps a benefit of massaging the skin and stimulating hair growth (more hair?? – better hair). Their coats are softer and more glossy. Bottom line: these gloves have been absolutely great for my aging hairy dogs, and clearly they will be my only grooming aide for the girls. We got the Friends Forever pet grooming kit for our Australian Shepard who needs loads of brushing due to shedding. I really like this kit as it has all we need to keep him looking good. The only drawback was there weren't any instructions on how to use some of the equipment, such as the deshedding tool or the dematting tool. The tools in the Friends Forever – Pet Grooming Kit 5 Set have a good feel to them. I have a mini bernedoodle who is considered low shedding and the deshedding tool still got some hair out. The slicker brush worked ok but for curly poodle type hair it doesn't get through as well as needed. The pin comb worked well and was comfortable in my hands. The nail clippers also worked well. I really like the rubber grip of the handle and that it doesn't slip when brushing the cats fur. My cat didn't squirm when getting brushed and was thoroughly enjoying it. I like that the blue helps remove hair from the pet and the red size for clothing etc. My dog likes being brushed with it but my cats are mostly outside I haven't used it. The only problem I've had is my dog has short hair and I had a little bit of trouble removing it from the glove. Great product what little I've used of them so far. Unfortunately and sadly my 6 year old black lab (had since birth) has VERY sensitive skin. Touch her pretty much anywhere on the back from the neck down and she shudders like a horse. I figured there would be a chance she might not like them. Though she does seem to tolerate them better than a brush. Can't knock any points from a product that has such a great purpose and it's not as cheaply made as I was expecting from some reviews. I was disappointed in this product. The glove is stiff and is hard to bend since no place for thumb its just one big hand piece. It doesnt do any better job than a regular pet brush. The hair stays stuck in the glove and i had a hard time cleaning it out.. The glove pushes to the hair to the back also while brushing and just clumps above the tail area. On the plus side Charlie did enjoy being brushed.shea
