Have tried several harnesses to help with our super hard pulling Frenchie so was a bit cynical that anything could help him but really surprised to say how well this is working. Only downside is how long the adjustable tether is so if you want to take the lead off it hangs off him and he could almost trip, a bigger dog would probably not have this problem.cindy09

I had high hopes for this collar as my older dog has a chronic condition and we are all very tired of his cone bumping into all of us and the whole house, and so is he. But, despite measuring and it appearing to fit exactly as described in the instructions, he had NO TROUBLE getting to the growth on his underside. Complete waste of time and money. He may as well be wearing a sock. We tightened everything to the point of it being uncomfortable for the dog and still he just reaches around like its nothing. I learned about these collars in 2004, after I lost a puppy to a collar strangulation accident. I only wish I had known then what I know now. I have purchased many of these collars over the years and give them away to friends. Sometimes I will come home from work and find a collar in the yard and I know that collar just saved a life! One time I did find a collar-less dog at home and the ID tag on his breakaway collar was firmly wedged between 2 boards on my deck. That time I know that his life was saved by his breakaway collar. I have three dachshunds. Before these collars were purchased, two of them were playing, when the lower teeth of one of them became intangibles in the other's collar. Both of them were trying to pull away and the dog was choking. She let out a squeal like I've never heard before. I was able to separate the two, but there was blood in her eyes. It was after hours, so we had to drive her to a 24-hour vet clinic an hour's drive away. She was okay, but after purchasing three of these collars, it has never been an issue again. Since we have a fenced in back yard, the collars work well. I have found one of them lying outside, but better to have a healthy dog that is safe from choking. I use the Black Dog head halter and the Halti brand and they each have their merits. I work with a lot of dogs and use them interchanegably. The Black Dog one is less restrictive and allows the dog to pant (much better for big / anxious dogs especially in summer months) and it's more comfortable and bothers the dog less..the goal being that the dog only feels constructed when they are performing the wrong behaviour (eg leash pulling) but the downside is that if the leash is not connected to the loop, then the dog can chew it and destroy it in three seconds. The halti ones are closer to indestructible when worn , whether a lead is connected or not as they clip to the collar and are more restrictive. Saying that, the restriction limits how far their mouth can open. This again has its pros and cons – good for aggressive dogs as it's almost a partial muzzle – can't do much damage to other dogs when wearing them. If training is completed correctly with a head halter, doing stepping-up / trust building exercises and being very strict on head rubbing / pawing at mouth behaviours, then it's a very useful tool for certain dogs. But the goal of any head halter should be to not need it anymore. You should use it in conjunction with your voice etc so that the dog learns to listen to YOU and not the head halter itself. If you have a very feisty, pushy dog who is all over the place throwing a thousand behaviours out there in ten seconds then yes I recommend this behaviour as a starting tool to teach calm and connect with me. But otherwise Black dog all the way.
I have used the Halti brand for years. I first used one on a German shepherd dog which constantly pulled. It even developed a throat problem. Put it on a Halti and after 15 mins of protest she was great. She also accepted the halti and got excited when she saw it as she knew it was walk time. I now have a English cocker who is exactly the same, after months of trying to get her to walk correctly I fitted a halti and it is instant calmness. I have used cheaper alternatives on my German shepherd but they really do not fit the face of the dog correctly and when the dog pulls it twists their face and it must have been uncomfortable for the dog. But Halti product fits the face of the dog correctly and gives the dog no discomfort so its a good win for everyone including the dog.noxas123
These DO work well, full stop. HOWEVER, considering the ease of knockoff product availability, and probably cheap material using overesas labor, the price is questionable, ESPECIALLY since the metal rings wear through the nylon. It is not as bad with this exact design, but I think Coastal branded Halti headcolars have 2 more metal rings. If you ever have to go through a metal detector, the metal is an issue. BUT the added safety strap to clip to another collar or harness, which includes a metal spring clip is important for when the metal ring cuts through the nose-band. Also check the nose-band often as when the padding rubs away, your dog will get a rub. Again the price could be better and there are fiber-reinforced synthetic hardware alernatives to the metal rings. But, overall this is a good product.onelonecowboy1886

I was sceptical as to whether the head harness would work on my large and very strong Salukis. It is very important to get your dog(s) used to putting their noses through it to begin with and becoming familiar with it. First walk with head harnesses fitted to both, and myself nervous as to how they would react. I neednt have worried. Not once did I have to say to them stop pulling. I honestly didn't believe the "guaranteed" no pulling but the collar actually made a HUGE difference the first time we used it. My pup doesn't love wearing it so when we stand still she'll lie down and try to pull it off, but it doesn't hurt her. It's a much better (and more effective) alternative than a choking collar. My dog is 31lbs (and growing) and our walks used to be quite painful as she's still learning to heel. When these first came out on QVC my husband and I got it for our puggle dog Butchy. Half pug the daddy Sir Manny and beagle mama Dam: Misty. These collars work great with a little bit of time and training. After a year of use, with supervision, I can now take my dogs (Basenji & G.Shep) outside on our 3 acres without the collars because they have now learned the boundaries. My favorite feature of these collars is the nightlight and the beep function. The nightlight is perfect for going out at night and keeping my eyes on where each dog is located. The beep function is fantastic, my dogs have learned the beep means to turn around and come back. During training I used the shock function (level 8 & I did test the level of intensity on my own leg) only a handful of times when absolutely necessary and it's never used now. Both dogs now respond to the beep and if they're chasing a deer they'll stop to the vibrate function. The two CONS I have with these collars are the rubber covers for the progs come off so easily when the dogs are wrestling and get lost constantly. The other con is that I've had the collars close to a year now and the rechargeable batteries within the device are dying. The collars are on charge constantly now so that they are charged up for when they are needed. The collar dies within about 8 hours before it needs a charge even if it's turned off. Whereas when I first got them the charge lasted about a week. This is after treating them correctly, turning off when not in use and only charging when needed.Elizabeth R.
I have used this collar for 2-3 years now, I went with it as it is one of the highest rated collars when researched. I do run into technical difficulties as you do with anything else and have had no problem with having them replaced. I favorite part is the range and diverse control settings. When my dogs are out of the yard, I just hit the sound button and they know they have went to far and to get back. They come usually immediately. My least favorite part is the product does not seem to last very long.. in the two to three years I’ve used this, I have had to get a few replaced and all with different problems. I recently bought a brand new set of two, and I am very happy. I just have a problem with one of them flashing the green light constantly while the device is on and the battery life on that specific collar does not last. I love how the vibration & shock can be set from 0-99. The sound tones are also pitched slightly different for each collar & has the option to add a third collar. I’ve had this for months & the battery in the remote lasts extremely long. I think I’ve only charged it once. The collars last days as well. The only thing I wish was easier is the ability to switch over from each channel. When you switch from shock to vibrate, the first click is to switch over, then the second click actually vibrates the collar (& vice versa). When switching over to the other channel, you have to follow the same procedure. Which is fine for normal circumstances. But, when it’s an emergent situation, that extra time it takes to shock/ vibrate the other collar can make a huge difference & lead to a struggle in a stressful situation.Erin

We've used this collar for a few weeks and have definitely seen improvement. When our 130 lb Asian Shepherd tries to lunge at a passing car we simply put tension on the leash and she stops. We have tried every type of no-pill harness out there, and had given up. When I went to my locally owned pet shop to buy a new collar for my girl, I saw this harness and decided to give it a go. What a difference. She didn’t like it at first, but it only took a couple of days for her to stop pawing at it. Fitting the harness was so easy as is putting on for a walk. It’s very lightweight, and with the additional padding on the nose loop combined with the heat-cut ends of the straps being sewn so that they do not touch her fur means no chafing and no sore spots. I can’t remember exactly what year we would have gotten our first gentle leader, but I’ll always remember the doggo we got it for and what a life changer it was!! He was 120 pounds of pure muscle and we.had.tried.everything. Group training, private training, and all the types of collars I would never use today even if I didn’t have this amazing option (choke, pinch, shock…). Our vet had even recommended having a horse halter made for him. And then a friend suggested a gentle leader. Overnight, we went from dreading the walk and only taking them when the strongest in the family was available, to myself, the kids and even my parents being able to EASILY, with one hand and no strength required, walk this dog who literally dragged me across a soccer field once when I slid on wet grass but didn’t want to let go of his leash. It was probably right around twenty years ago, and sadly Bear has long ago been to the rainbow bridge. But we’ve had a few other large, strong pullers since and thankfully we knew from the beginning how to make walks fun and bearable for everyone. I only wish it hadn’t taken SO long for there to be some collars with a little design and color other than the same solid colors for so many years. And I can’t lie, I sure wish there were more choices than there are. But thankfully the gentle leader is still available. I’ve worried at times when it’s been hard to find at stores in our area – but no matter how many other harnesses I’ve tried (and there have been quite a few – mostly looking to try to raise the fashion game a little or avoid the initial struggle to get it off), nothing has worked like the gentle leader and I always just get another one. This collar is no where near as wide as the photo makes it appear. My dog will have this thing broke in less then a month. Absolutely worthless collar for a large dog. They claim it is for a large dog, but, I guess they never meet my large doge. His current collar is twice as wide and at least twice as thick, is less then 9 months old and he is tearing it. That is why I ordered a new one. NEVER again. I will drive 85 plus miles one way to find a pet smart or other store that has what I need and I will shop and buy in person.larry

I LOVE Orvis dog products. I have always used Orvis dog collars for my dogs. On the advise from a professional dog handler, I recently purchased the martingale no-pull collar. I love the material and the sturdiness, but I felt the collar width was too thin and it doesn't have a side release buckle that the other Orvis collar has. Have two strong and feisty chocolate labs that have to be on a leash from time to time and can sometime get excited when you least expect it! The inside edges of the collar where it is "melted" together are constructed well without any sharp edges as I have found on other brands. The black, white, grey pattern looks great on our white Great Pyrenees. I buy these double braid collars for my puppies because they're infinitely adjustable. The prong from the buckle goes into the braid at any point for fine adjustments for rapidly growing puppies is possible. I also like them because they're priced right, enabling me to buy several so when one gets dirty I can just pop a new one on while I wash the other one and I can switch colors when I feel like it. These are the ONLY collar I purchase for my dog. He’s an escape artist, so harnesses and regular collars have never worked out for us. I purchased one collar four years ago, and just recently purchased the same in a different color. The only reason I’m giving a 4 is because the newer collar seems slightly different… cheaper and thinner almost, and the metal clasp is fading in less than six months. I've been volunteering walking dogs with Labrador and Friends Rescue and it's required that we have two types of leashes so one form for me is the pinch collar. While some people think these are awful, they actually, if put on correctly, work wonders. These collars are made to go higher up on the neck and not supposed to be digging into the dog's neck (have to be able to stick 2 fingers through the prongs). But these collars definitely help especially if you have a dog that tends to be a little wild and you're trying to train them. Obviously most dogs aren't going to want these prongs digging in their necks soooo they tend to be more relaxed and listen while on their walks.shannon.m

I have to admit that I was very impressed with the quality of the Backcountry collar. The material is a thick rubber that is both soft and strong. It doesn't have the sticky feeling most rubber has (especially when wet) so it doesn't pull or rub on the hair. The inside of the collar gets a greasy film that builds up after a while of wearing, however, one of the best things about this collar is how easy it is to clean! Soap and water is all you need and it dries immediately so you don't have to wait to put it back on your pup. It has a durable clip and slides easily when adjusting it to size.Brittany
this is a different material than any collar that i have ever used. it is a flexible plastic. at first i was dismayed but it sure makes it easier to clean than others that i have had. also, it is very strong. even the buckles and where they are attached. fortunately, my dog isn't a strong puller so i am not sure how strong it would be if he were more aggressive. he weighs 22 1/2 lbs and is poodle/bichon. the small fit perfectly.artc
This silicone collar is rad because it doesn't tatter over time, so it basically still looks brand new even after a couple of months of wear. My dog likes to run through bushes and tall grass so I really like this feature.
