Head Halter Dog Harness For Sale (2024 Update)

After trying other head halter I've found the style of this to be the best so far as it doesn't link the nose band in place, it continuously applies/releases pressure with the movement of the dog. I've had mine for over three years now and still going strong except the padding on the nose band has worn away and frayed. The only thing I really dislike is the adjustment buckle sits directly up behind the base of the dogs ear which can be quite annoying for the dog and cause ear discomfort/head shaking. If the neck strap is loosened away from the ear it becomes too loose. Otherwise it gives great head/body control.Donna

I bought an unbranded halti at a dog show but it was far from a good fit especially around the eyes as the strap fit too high around and across the eyes. These had quality from the outset well padded strap around the muzzle and eyes. Quality counts especially when your unable to ask your dog how it feels I highly recommend this product.whiterose13409

This product is absolutely amazing. I train my grandma's Schnauzer on a regular basis, and though she is smart, she is horrible on walks. She looks like she is swimming, choking and straining against the collar and dragging me everywhere. My grandma and I began to hate walking her, because it was just not enjoyable. Therefore, the dog never got the exercise she needed. I'm an amateur trainer, and I saw head collars being used on TV and decided to find out where I could purchase one. I saw they sold them at Petco, and I bought one. The first walk was horrible, she hated it and wouldn't go two steps without trying to pry it off, but I'm more stubborn than her, and I kept at it. I've just returned form our third walk, and she only balked once at having the collar on, and that was when I'd just put it on. She's doing marvelous, and for once, I'm in control! I would highly recommend this, much more humane and affective than the choke collars and prong collars. This is just like a horse halter, only for dogs. This product takes time to introduce to a dog, please look online as to how to make this an easier adjustment. the instructions on the company's page are lacking. My 90lb pitbull walks well on this, but she took a lot of work and will still struggle. It will take me a long time to get her to walk in grass without wanting to rub her face or paw this off. You want to invest in some training treats and constantly get their attention to turn them around and treat them. sharp 'uh uh uh' and gently pull the leash up so they cannot drag their faces or paw at themselves. Recommending a quiet atmosphere where you have time to put it on and off their faces, eventually snap it, and short multiple walks to get them interested. they will learn to associate this as what they need to wear to walk eventually and the fighting will slow. The other thing, is i specifically wanted this item for the safety feature that will clip to collar. I am amazed at how well this collar works. My 3-year-old, 70-lb. golden retriever mix is a very sweet, highly energetic girl. For the last 18 months, our walks have not been very much fun for either of us. No technique I have tried has convinced her to stop pulling, and I have tripped over her and fallen down a number of times. I can't say that she likes the Halti much – she tries to rub it off – but she has NEVER pulled against it. Walking her is so easy now; I can keep her on a loose leash and she stays right beside me. We've used this collar for a few weeks and have definitely seen improvement. When our 130 lb Asian Shepherd tries to lunge at a passing car we simply put tension on the leash and she stops. We have tried every type of no-pill harness out there, and had given up. When I went to my locally owned pet shop to buy a new collar for my girl, I saw this harness and decided to give it a go. What a difference. She didn’t like it at first, but it only took a couple of days for her to stop pawing at it. Fitting the harness was so easy as is putting on for a walk. It’s very lightweight, and with the additional padding on the nose loop combined with the heat-cut ends of the straps being sewn so that they do not touch her fur means no chafing and no sore spots. I can’t remember exactly what year we would have gotten our first gentle leader, but I’ll always remember the doggo we got it for and what a life changer it was!! He was 120 pounds of pure muscle and we.had.tried.everything. Group training, private training, and all the types of collars I would never use today even if I didn’t have this amazing option (choke, pinch, shock…). Our vet had even recommended having a horse halter made for him. And then a friend suggested a gentle leader. Overnight, we went from dreading the walk and only taking them when the strongest in the family was available, to myself, the kids and even my parents being able to EASILY, with one hand and no strength required, walk this dog who literally dragged me across a soccer field once when I slid on wet grass but didn’t want to let go of his leash. It was probably right around twenty years ago, and sadly Bear has long ago been to the rainbow bridge. But we’ve had a few other large, strong pullers since and thankfully we knew from the beginning how to make walks fun and bearable for everyone. I only wish it hadn’t taken SO long for there to be some collars with a little design and color other than the same solid colors for so many years. And I can’t lie, I sure wish there were more choices than there are. But thankfully the gentle leader is still available. I’ve worried at times when it’s been hard to find at stores in our area – but no matter how many other harnesses I’ve tried (and there have been quite a few – mostly looking to try to raise the fashion game a little or avoid the initial struggle to get it off), nothing has worked like the gentle leader and I always just get another one. I really like the PetSafe – Gentle Leader® Headcollar, in size Medium. At first I was a little skeptical that this might actually help when we take our 8 month old puppy on walks because all she wants to do constantly is stop, and smell everything. We were using a harness on her, but after trying out the Gentle Leader, it works so much better that my husband and I were amazed. The Leader is very simple, goes on easily, and there is a little loop that goes through a ring that you bring up, and it goes around the very top of your dogs nose. This is to help lease train them better so that with just a little tug, it brings your dogs head up, and in our dogs case, it stops her from smelling every little thing on her walks. It was like night and day! That's how impressed we were. At times she gives us a little snort when we give her a little gentle tug on the leash to keep her head up, but it really seems to be working, and the walks are so much more enjoyable now. This gentle lead took some getting used to and is still a work in progress. This was my first time trying this type of product, I typically go for harnesses. It is well made so I feel secure that it will hold up during many walks and not come loose/give out. There are large picture instructions that are a great help with sizing and how to properly put it on, along with describing how the fit should be so it is comfortable but won’t slip during use. The fit and use instructions are a great help especially for someone who has never used this type of lead before. There are many helpful tips on the other side of the instruction sheet to help get the most positive outcomes from use.Emilyh

I had bought this a week ago in store. I'm so happy with the progress my dog has already made using this. He used to bolt out the gate but now hes always right by my side, checking in on me and making sure I'm keeping up with him. I've finally been able to loose leash walk him without having to worry about him running off. This has help so much in such a short time! I knew about this product for several weeks, but I delayed in getting it. I thought I'd give the puppy a chance with regular training methods (treats, praise, verbal corrections) before I started futzing with a special collar and have to buy it in two sizes. That was really stupid. I wish I would have bought it sooner and spent the money on the two sizes. I got this one in a size Medium and it fits perfectly with just an easy adjustment of the buckle. Our little man is a Labradoodle, now at about 32 lbs and expected to reach a 60-ish weight probably. He is VERY high energy, very strong and very smart, but our little darling is no longer little and I have been finding myself struggling with his 32 lb self pulling on the walks. I cannot imagine when he is full grown, so I decided finally to nip this in the bud and I ordered the gentle leader. It arrived today and I was amazed at how he has NO power to pull AT ALL. I even noticed that in many situations like when he would normally lunge at something, he didn't, maybe that is just from the novelty and will eventually wear off, but for today, it was as if he had a total attitude adjustment. It was like magic. He is none too pleased about the new situation, for sure, but I am pleased as punch. Will take a few days of working with him to get used to it so he stops trying to pull it down with his paws, but even when he was trying he couldn't get it off successfully unless I let off on the tension to the leash altogether which I was able to correct for easily enough. I have an 18 month old standard poodle. I’ve had her since 9 weeks old. She’s full of energy and gets super excited. I’ve trained her well on a typical lead but I was having issues controlling her when she would get excited by people and animals. I have arthritis in my hands and wrists, I have shoulder problems as well. Every time I walked her I’d be in so much pain trying to pull her back. A service dog trainer suggested the gentle leader to me and it’s totally changed I no longer have the shoulder and back pain from pulling her back. I have used the Halti brand for years. I first used one on a German shepherd dog which constantly pulled. It even developed a throat problem. Put it on a Halti and after 15 mins of protest she was great. She also accepted the halti and got excited when she saw it as she knew it was walk time. I now have a English cocker who is exactly the same, after months of trying to get her to walk correctly I fitted a halti and it is instant calmness. I have used cheaper alternatives on my German shepherd but they really do not fit the face of the dog correctly and when the dog pulls it twists their face and it must have been uncomfortable for the dog. But Halti product fits the face of the dog correctly and gives the dog no discomfort so its a good win for everyone including the dog.noxas123

These DO work well, full stop. HOWEVER, considering the ease of knockoff product availability, and probably cheap material using overesas labor, the price is questionable, ESPECIALLY since the metal rings wear through the nylon. It is not as bad with this exact design, but I think Coastal branded Halti headcolars have 2 more metal rings. If you ever have to go through a metal detector, the metal is an issue. BUT the added safety strap to clip to another collar or harness, which includes a metal spring clip is important for when the metal ring cuts through the nose-band. Also check the nose-band often as when the padding rubs away, your dog will get a rub. Again the price could be better and there are fiber-reinforced synthetic hardware alernatives to the metal rings. But, overall this is a good product.onelonecowboy1886

I was sceptical as to whether the head harness would work on my large and very strong Salukis. It is very important to get your dog(s) used to putting their noses through it to begin with and becoming familiar with it. First walk with head harnesses fitted to both, and myself nervous as to how they would react. I neednt have worried. Not once did I have to say to them stop pulling. They were like normal well trained dogs, if you can believe that about a Saluki. Ive ordered two more for my other Saluki and Daschund, thats how good they are.oldcharmfreak

Should be made of stronger material. Some of the side bits are so flimsy the dog managed to chew through it whilst wearing it within seconds. I'd just put it on the dog. I honestly didn't believe the "guaranteed" no pulling but the collar actually made a HUGE difference the first time we used it. My pup doesn't love wearing it so when we stand still she'll lie down and try to pull it off, but it doesn't hurt her. It's a much better (and more effective) alternative than a choking collar. My dog is 31lbs (and growing) and our walks used to be quite painful as she's still learning to heel. The collar has made a world of difference: Now that she's used to it she tries to pull a little, but it's very gentle and nowhere near her pulling before. If taking your dog for his/her daily constitutional is a trail, then a Halti may help. Any dog can be both boustious and naughty when spying other dogs on his/her walk. Not to mention, the bane of all dog owners lives, wild life, namely Squirrels, and other domestic pets, such as cats. The Halti allows you to control your dog by using using gentle pressure to better control your dogs head, and to curtail certain behaviours, such as pulling and barking, in a more gentle form of behaviour reinforcement, as a genuine Halti is cruelty free. The one issue I've found with all of the Halti's I've used over the years, is; though the material used is strong and long wearing, it does tend to stretch. Often, I've had to resort to stitching the band which goes around the back of the dogs head to shorten it, as once it stretches, it can slip off. Even though it has a safety strap that clicks onto your dogs coller, it renders the Halti's ability to help control your dogs behaviour null and void. I have, over a series of years never had one snap. Always, it has stretched, once the straps have been tightened as much as is allowed by design, stitching it is the best method I have found. It's important to remember, that like us, dog breeds are highly individual, so measuring your dogs headbefore purchasing this item is extremely important. Don't necessarily go by the manufacturers sizing. Often the same breed of dog, (as happens with many things) are individual, and often bigger or smaller than the standard stats of most breeds. This is my 5th Halti, and my 3rd manufacturer. There is little difference between brands, and it is often that my dog has grown or got older, that I've had to change the Halti before wearing it out. Don't be afraid to search through the many different manufacturers that sell these, as prices vary, however, be aware that buying from unregulated sellers may earn you a cheaper alternative, that isn't a genuine item. It is always safer to purchase a Halti from a reputable seller. Remember depending on the size of your pet, prices will vary. They tend to be numbered, a 1 will often fit a small breed with a 3 fitting a mid sized breed. Often this is translated into centre metres on the back of the packet. It has not arrived yet but the site is misleading. It suggests you have a choice of many colours but when I wanted size2 I had a choice of red or black only! I looked at all the other sizes and none of them offered all the choices! So I ordered red as I don't want black. I had the original Halti and it worked ok but rubbed on my dogs nose quite hard. The new version has a soft leather nose pad which stops it rubbing. The Halti works very well, it stops dogs from pulling instantly. The dogs quickly realise they cant pull without their head being turned. I have a large pedigree Labrador, hes incredibly strong and very excited to go for a walk. I used to have to wrap the lead round my hand several times just to keep hold of him and my hand would be very sore after a walk. As soon as i put the Halti on him he becomes a different dog. I can literally hold the lead with my finger and thumb and bring him to a stop easily If youre sick of having your arm yanked off every time you take the dog out give this a try you wont regret it. It takes the dogs a few days to get used to wearing it and they dont like it at first but my Lab is fine with it now, he sits happily and lets me put it on him. For some reason my wife cant seem to fit it properly, she always fits it wrong and says it doesnt work – it works fine when fitted correctly!brr247

We found this on Amazon and were impressed with the value. It appears to be well made and good quality. If you haven’t used a halter before, be patient and watch a few YouTube videos. It will take some time for your dog to get used to it, but once they do you will be amazed. It adjusts easily, but the large was almost too big for our 55lb collie mix and he has a fairly long snout. This halter is just excellent. My daughter has special needs and this halter is perfect even for her to use. Our big dog responds to it perfectly. My dogs are 30kgs and 35kgs so they're both very strong. They both have a problem with pulling when they have a body harness on. This stops them pulling almost entirely – they will still pull when they want to sniff another dog or something exciting happens but it isn't anywhere near as strong as before. One big issue this thing has is if the dog pulls backwards it can slip over their head. My doberman has a skinny neck and head so this is a real problem with her. We have taken to putting on her old harness and clipping the rear D rings to it so that if the head halter comes off we still have her clipped to the body harness. (It's happened twice now, once when I was trying to tie my shoe and a dog barked behind me, and once when she was tied up outside a coffee shop)sorryboss_23

My 14 month old 110 pound Black Russian Terrier is a handful. This snout about is a godsend. Sturdy unlike other halter types sold. They work like a horse halter, the animal follows their head so, control the head and you control the animal. They can eat, pant, drink, and if necessary bite. These are NOT a muzzle.dustmagnet

Fit is very important. I got a large because I have a large breed dog that’s a year old. However she has a slender neck. The large is slightly to big even with the neck portion to its smallest size. I wish I would have gotten a medium. But the product itself is a very high quality. It is durable material and well crafted. I do like the wider version but I’ve not seen anywhere else. I did start my dogs incessantly pulling off then he was doing. he still pulls it off sometimes though. I’m thinking about getting the smaller size even though with measurements this was the correct size. I think for small dogs they could make the snout loop with fixed adjustments so the size would hold and it would then work more like intended but as is it doesn't work without pull on the leash which you don't always havebill

So I adopted a 3 year old pitty who had no training outside of “sit”. I’ve been able to train her the basic commands but when it came to leash training and leash reactivity, I tried every thing in the book. Her reactions to other dogs were so severe that even with the prong collar, she would pull so hard she was choking herself to the point that she couldn’t even bark!! I watched the video and I actually gave her a few treats through the loop and when I put it on her she didn’t LOVE it but she didn’t hate it either. But to the point, she was immediately a different dog! She walked beside me and didn’t try to lead and we were even able to pass dogs without incident. I really really wanted to like this harness. My lab/pit doesn’t so much “pull” as she is just a speed walker. I’ve tried just about everything to curb this insistent need to be ahead of me. I’ve tried various collars, harnesses, head leads, and even took her to training classes. That and because my dog had an odd barrel shaped chest trying to get a good measurement for her often doesn’t go too well, and as much as I wanted in like this harness all it ended up doing was leaving bad sores under her armpits, which isn’t so much the fault of the product as much as it’s the fault of my dog who insists on being ahead of me no matter how fast I walk (and I tend to walk at the pace of a light jog!) Alas I’ve just put her back in her old harness, but perhaps when she’s older and has hopefully calmed down, I can then put her in something like this. Our five-month-old golden retriever puppy was starting to get really strong, and her oppositional pulling (or dragging) when using just a collar or typical chest harness was making walks less than fun for everyone. The dog trainer recommended a shoulder harness like this, and when paired with a runner's leash (and positive reinforcement), it makes for a much more relaxed and enjoyable walk. It's super-easy to slip on and off–i.e., less time for our puppy to grab it in her mouth and wrestle with it–and the bright-orange color adds a pop of safety for trail hikes. We have two of these, one small and one extra small because neither will fit a French Bulldog properly (Purchased the first one based on her measurements and the chart). We use the extra small since it is the best fit. We have noticed chafing under our dog's front legs where the halter rubs her, she now has no hair there on either side. The purpose of the front leash ring is to discourage pulling but what we have found is that the harness pulls to one side, twists around the dog, and pulls up under the leg opposite of the leash side. The harness loosens as the dog pulls, so you must keep adjusting it or it will be too loose. Our dog is white. On her back where the ring is she now has a black mark because the ring is constantly rubbing there.Debbie D.

The best investment I have made for my puppy, who is growing fast and extremely jumpy. It got to the stage where I found it incredibly difficult to walk her, but the Halti harness works a treat! The Halti double ended lead can be wrapped around you so you use your body weight rather than your hands/arms to stop the pulling. I can literally walk hands free! You can then take the lead off the front part of the harness and it becomes a 6 foot lead, which is great for recall training. If you take the whole double ended lead off, the harness has about a 1ft lead attached to it, which is easy to grab if you need to when you let your dog off the lead. It has turned our dog walks into a pleasure rather than a nightmare!awchan2801

I've tried numerous harnesses and never loved any until this one. I have a miniature rat terrier who is 13.5 lbs. He tends to be too big for mediums and way too small for large sizes. Finally, this harness fits perfectly in Medium! There's even a little room to spare in case he gets larger. We wanted to take off pressure from his neck and the v neck design and light weight, soft mesh is great! It's by far the softest one I've ever felt, and I've tried every one at multiple stores. It's so comfortable that it could be left on all the time even in summer since it's so breathable. My dog lives it too! He seems to feel safe and calmer in it like a thunder shirt makes him feel. The first time I took him on a walk he seemed to feel "free". He was so happy to pounce around without worrying about a jerk in his neck. We give this one 5 stars!!!! I got this in black, size medium from Amazon. She has a 12" neck and a 19" chest. This harness is adjustable around both neck and chest. My pup has a high chase drive and will sometimes pull suddenly. I like that the x-shape doesn't put as much pressure on her throat when she pulls, and the double d-rings and buckle closure feel very secure for her leash. My dog learned to step into the harness on her own if we hold it up for her, too. Very good quality materials that will last a long time.lianna.b

at the suggestion of my neighbor I bought this harness.Online store availability says it was available at the store. Went to this store they did not have the medium size (strike 1). I got small because the last harness I got at Petco last week in a medium was WAY TOOOO big. (which I am unable to return $35 gone). (strike 2 ) Even tho this one is advertised online for $14.99 at the store it was $21.99 and the team member did not know anything about it being lower online.
