I have been looking for clippers that my just one year old Golden Retriever will not jump away from. Being able to adjust how much nail is clipped at any one time is very important, and these work perfectly. I worked with him for several days playing with him while the clippers near his toes, then touching his toes, then lightly grabbing the nails with the clippers without clipping, and then finally clipping just a little at a time. He was VERY skittish at first, but as time has gone by he's getting more and more used to them, and I can clip a little more each day. I tried to use these on my German shepherd and it didnt work, the clippers wouldn't cut through the nails easily at all. When i tried to increase my strength squeezing the clippers, the clippers would start to twist my dog's whole nail, which of course freaked my dog out cuz i'm sure that didn't feel great. So next i tried holding my dog's nail with one hand and the clippers with the other, which only resulted in the clippers again not cutting through the nail, instead they started creaking like they were gonna snap apart. I'm so disappointed, i was really excited for these dog nail clippers due to the reviews that said they were easier and quieter than other clippers out there…….syd

First one got here damage. Bubble wrap inside popped, asumming it bounced all around and got damage. Exchange at store, excellent customer service. First timers like me, start slow so you can get use to the grinder. It might not look like it’s grinding but it is. The higher speed will grind fast. It’s hard to tell which one is the 100 grid and which one is the 60 grid. They felt the same to me. Do not try to tighten all the way down without inserting the tip first. If you do you will push the gold holder and squeeze the holder shut which will not let you insert the tip. When you receive, simply press the button. Loosen a little more, insert the tip and tighten. Turn the power on and your set to go. Used it twice and my dogs nails are smooth. I used medium speed on my dachshund and miniature poodle and then a slower speed to shape and fine nails. For my pit bull I used a higher speed as his nails are bigger and stronger. So far so good. And yes weird set dogs but they all get along and al indoor dogs. When I started my search for a good nail grinder, I knew I needed something powerful for my newfoundland-labrador mix. He's nails are very thick. This works really well to grind them down. It's not cordless, but I think that's better. The battery-operated grinders I've used in the best will not be as powerful as the battery drains. This product worked great for the first few times I used it but then it bogged down so much that it didn't take much pressure to stop the wheel from spinning. I wasn't dirty or misused. I contacted Petco and they sent a replacement (kudos for their great customer service) but that one also stopped working after maybe half a dozen uses. I have 2 8lb dogs and their nails shouldn't be too much for a product that costs $50. I'm really disappointed in this product and now I can't get a replacement because somehow the order disappeared out of my order history so I can't prove I purchased it even though it was an online order. this product is made very poorly. the light will not stay lit. Having worked in a grooming salon and in animal rescue, I'll let a few of you in on a secret. Your dog groomer uses something very similar to this. Hence your dogs nails feeling smooth when they leave the groomer. (Or, they should anyway.) YES, your dog may likely be frightened of this weird, crazy tool. (However unless you're managing to use this all kinds of wrong, it won't hurt any more than filing your nails hurts you.) It takes time and patience to work up to using this with many dogs. The sound and vibration of the tool are off putting. Some don't mind, others do. It's about the dog, and if your dog doesn't like it, I suggest following the instructions a little better. Let me say first off that I don't use this to take length off the dog's nails. I use proper nail clippers to do that, I use THIS to file the rough edges left over. Unless you're using this very regularly, it isn't going to work like the informercial (shocking, I know!!) I deducted points for two reasons. One, I think they could have made the motor a lot quieter on this. Two, it is annoying to change the heads. Otherwise, I like it, and I use it regularly.
The sound of the device is not very loud, though they provide instructions of how to get your pet used to the sound if they are afraid. Thankfully my dog was introduced to the sound and feel of a Dremel at an early age and it no longer scares her, so no issues there. The device is easy to use and convenient but my only issue is that it is not powerful enough on my husky's nails. The device has a built in safety that when too much pressure is applied it will shut off but it takes more than the "correct amount" of pressure to get her nails ground down. It takes too long to get her nails trimmed down because the emory on the rotating filing head is not strong enough. I purchased the devise so that I could grind her nails at home and save money every few weeks at the grooming place but now I have to decide if it's worth the time and effort to do it at home or would I rather pay the money to have someone else do it. My large dog needed hers done badly and I was always terrified to trim them myself because God forbid I cut them too deep, I would feel awful and so would she for separate reasons, lol!! I would’ve taken her to the vet but she hates going there since she got spayed. When I found out about this mail grinder it was like it was meant for me…or, at least people like me. Now, I can trim her nails any time I was and I don’t feel anxious at all. The only problem is that she does have thicker nails and the grinder takes a while to get her nails down t where I want them, and obviously that takes time. First I must let potential buyers know that this does not come with a rechargeable USB as indicated in the description. You must buy AA batteries. However, it feels very comfortable in hand, and the cap doesn't unexpectedly fall off during use. I love the red paw print button design and how this device is big enough for a better grip during use. I see NO use for the automated light though. It's not as a flashlight that scatters around the object; it's more of a straight forward line. I feel like it gets in the way sometimes during natural daylight hours to where there's a shadow towards my pup's nail. I do not understand why someone decided to put it there. LOVE IT! We have two Cavaliers with small nails and two Setters with large nails. Worked beautifully on all! Although not noisy at all, the motor running was still a sound the dogs were unfamiliar with so I let it run while giving them some favorite treats. After a couple times of that, they ignored it with the exception of one of our Setters who's skittish about ALL noises so not surprised by her reaction. Took a couple minutes for me to get used to the feel of using it and the dogs too, but then I was able to finish eat dog quickly and easily! Even our super skittish Setter settled down by the third paw which gives me hope that eventually trimming her nails might not be the battle it's been with regular clippers. The light cannot be rotated to line up with the various holes sizes which was a little disappointing but it's bright enough to shine thru the nail and "double check" how close you're getting to the quick. The only reason I bought the second one is I needed attachments and it was just easier in this time of limited stock. These are a very good idea. Cats are notoriously touchy about their toes and feet. I'm always concerned I'll cut too far down, IF I can even get hold of a cat nail. I had been using human nail clippers which were only ok. With these clippers, you can't go too far onto the nail and reach the "quick" which would be ever so painful. Only one negative, I purchased the first pair (which says includes cats' toenails), but with one senior cat, some of her nails have thickened so I had to order the next size up – a small. I was SO excited when I saw these clippers, thinking that "arm wrestling" my three terriers (each weighing approximately only 19 lbs.) every weekend might finally be over. I've had dogs all my life and I compete with them in dog agility, so trimmed nails are a must. I've used both kinds of clippers (guillotine and scissors types) and Dremels, I've never nicked a nail, but it is still a physical battle. I saw these Zen Clippers and thought they would be the answer for me. Sadly, it's not the case, and so I am returning them. I tried the XL size, but even on my small Sealyham Terriers, the clipper just slides off the nail with doing little, if any, trimming. I have had many problems with this unit long term. First use was wonderful, but shortly later the batteries corroded. Since then, I have cleaned all the contacts and greased and installed new batteries and all was working again. Now, the sanding disk is slipping and so does NOT grind the nails. The disk is still in good shape and I even still have the second new disk to replace it with, but they BOTH slip and do not grind the nails consistently. It is like the rubber has shrunk and doesn't hold the sanding disk secure. TOTALLY disappointing. The furminator brush is just so effective, it is SUCH a disappointment to see that the nail clipper is such poor quality and so short lived.kugiej
I am not pleased with the Furminator as the little grinding bands do not stay in place, but tend to slide down the tumbler out of reach. On the slower speeds they will stop rotating if even slight pressure is applied. I am very happy with how quiet this grinder is and I like the plastic guard. We LOVE this! My Chiweenje has always been impossible to clip his nails and we have always paid $15 per month for a groomer to trim his nails. Well, COVID-19 put a damper on that so I researched and found this. It has been a life saver and is going to save us a ton of money between him and our new mini dachshund. The tips only stay super sharp for about 3-4 uses, but it's still worth it for the price. Excellent small portable nail grinder. I like the portability of the product and the quiet nature of the nail grinder. I used it on my Pomeranian puppy for her first time nail trim and she did excellent. It did not scare her and made for a pleasant experience. It comes with multiple sanders and has multiple speeds which help with a very young pup. I used it on my older Poms too and it worked very well. I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it to people with small to medium size dogs. I don't believe it is powerful enough for large dog nails.020508
