She started not liking to ride as much due to the slight rocking of the wire crate. Like many folks, she goes everywhere I go, so I thought I'd try this crate, and a pad. Great kennel, ordered a medium for a 30lb long legged dog, probably a touch small. Dog has been a kennel DESTROYER! We have gone through 8 kennels. It’s been 2 weeks, she has been able to chew the inside a bit on the inside corners but not too bad. She was able to pop the door open once and gnaw on the front but I think that due to a child not closing the door completely. All in all pleased with the kennel. I recently purchased two of these crates for '13 Chevy Suburban. Got the largest crates available for Giant Schnauzer and a Rottweiler puppy. The Giant S can just barely turn around in it. Will see if the Rotty fits when full grown. The crates fit without having to take the third row seats out. There are about four inches to spare width wise with both crates in. Can load and unload from rear or side doors of suv ,if third row seats are removed. These crates are a bit heavy for me to carry in and out of shows and trials, but know they need to be heavier for sturdiness with large breeds. I'm going to try some sort of wheels for moving in and out of venues. Would like to have crate pads and/or cool mats that fit these crates.Kaija

flying my 2 kitties cargo was an ordeal that i absolutely DO NOT EVER want to go through again.(im sure it wasnt even that bad for them, but it was terrible for me!) ultimately though, it had to be done. ive never shipped/flown a pet before so this all began with a search for a crate. petmate skykennel was the obvious choice. even though they're cats, my boys are big fellas. i went with the medium size so they'd have extra room. the crates were exactly what i needed. only thing i will say is, i did order an extra set of all-metal bolts/fasteners (from amazon); the ones that come with the crates are ok, but the overruling word on pet cargo travel seems to be all-metal is required. maybe its just required for international flights? either way i ordered a set. glad i bought ONLY that from amazon, though!i was about to buy the crates from there too, then i thought hmmm maybe someplace else had them at a better price…and yep… "someplace else" sure did! I did a lot of research before we decided to by the extra large Petmate dog crate. We currently have the "Giant" dog crate in a bedroom for our mixed malamute–but we have to disassemble it to take it out of the room. We need the dog crate for when we take our dog camping. The last time we took him camping, on the last day, we left him in our cabin for a few hours. When we came back, he had tore the curtain and blinds apart on two different windows. We spent hours trying to get new blinds and I had to sew the curtains. So, this crate in mandatory if our dog is going camping again! We currently have a fifth wheel trailer that we camp in. While certainly not inexpensive, it far outprices the alternative for a crate that meets all the requirements for airline travel for my German Shepherd. Years ago I also used to travel with my Dalmatian and I used the Petmate Sky Kennel then. Both dogs felt comfortable in the kennel at home and so having to step into it to be loaded on a plane was not a struggle. The only negative is the food/water tray. It's for a rabbit, not a 90 pound German Shepherd, but that's any easy fix for me, but the manufacturer should reconsider.

The XL size can be hard to find. Was out-of-stock at Petmate, so I signed up for an e-mail alert when in stock. I am confident I received an alert just as soon as it was being manufactured. I really appreciate that. I ordered two for my Aussies. Yes, is a tad large for them, but they've used this size since they were young, and sleep in them. They can turn around easily in them, the crate has very good air movement, and the sides are straight with no lost space inside as so many have with curved sides. One cover was damaged in shipment. I let Petmate know on a weekend and got an immediate response from customer service. I just sent them a picture of the damage and had a new crate in a few days. Great experience all around. Shipping cost was high, but that's part of the time we live in. I'd been looking for this crate at other locations for a few years. Never found it in XL. Was well worth the shipping cost to me. So my dogs are rescues. The first one hated the metal wire crate. 3 years & another rescue added to our pack I decided to try crating again to save my home. Please be aware that this product will take weeks to get. Bass Pro advised an arrival date, and that date came and went. I contact them, and they advised if you scroll down it states that it is a drop ship item. So it was in the fine print, but should be shown during checkout/shipping. Bass pro advised that I would just have to wait, and nothing I could do to track it. The customer service lady was very nice, and stated this problem happens and nothing is done about it. Instructions were good but brief, missing some smaller details on placement of blocks, also short you about 6 pieces of wood that need to be cut making the process a little confusing. I love the kennel, but there is some advertising issues with the size recommendations. On the Wayfair site and the Dakota site it says that this kennel is ideal for a large (41-70 lb) dog – it absolutely isn't. This would never fit my 37 lb field Lab, but does fit my Cairn Terrier (12.5" at the withers) and Sheltie (14"). If people look at the dimensions instead of the size recommendation, they'll be fine. If you have a small dog, this is a good option. If you have a large dog, this isn't the kennel you want. I also wish the T1's were stackable. Overall, it meets the needs of my smaller dogs – the kennel is very well made, I like the latching mechanism, and it is well ventilated. I really hope the company considers making them stackable!Tara

I ordered 2 Large crates for my dogs, a 55 lb Golden Retriever and a 62 lb Labradoodle, and had to send them back because the weight limits on the actual products do not match what is listed online. The product tags listed them for dogs up to 60 pounds rather than 70 pounds as listed online.When I called to have the products swapped out, I was told that they were sent direct from the manufacturer so I'd have to wait for them to call me which would happen in 24 to 48 hours… they never called. I did eventually get a return shipping label but since I never got a phone call to discuss the need to return the smaller size for a larger one, I ended up buying a replacement elsewhere.Mola

Although the carrier was more expensive with Hayneedle, I ordered 2 because they prominently advertised that it was the color Bleached Linen and everyone else was showing a two-tone tan and black. I have 2 in Linen already and wanted 2 more to match. The ones I received were tan and black. The carrier quality is fine and up to the standard of my 2 older ones, but these are not as advertised. This crate is not safe for a puppy. Our 9 week old pup tried biting on the wire door of the crate and got her teeth caught and could not get off without our help. She was frightened. I removed the door so she can go in and out at will. Maybe it will work when she is bigger. Caution!Laurie
Great kennel. Even better shipping, came to my house in 2 days after ordering. I wouldn't go off of the weight recommendation when purchasing this kennel for your dog- the XL says for dogs 50-70 lbs and my golden is 60 lbs however my golden although being within the weight limit was a tad bit too long for this size. I did take it back to my local Petco to exchange for a slightly larger size (size 40 inches in length) and the store's customer service was phenomenal in helping me with my exchange. Size your dog accordingly with a measuring tape when purchasing the proper kennel size- your dog should be able to sit inside, turn around, and lay down comfortably.Tanya Q

I bought the medium size crate for my husky/pit bull mix. It got here super fast and was undamaged. All the parts fit and instructions were easy to follow. I was glad it came partially assembled. I put it together by myself and that is saying alot, because as a 60 year old woman it was pretty heavy! I did zip tie the top shut and also use a plastic coated tie out cable to reinforce the door. I was unsure the locks would remain shut if he wanted to get out. My dog seems to appreciate the space inside the crate. I was worried about the floor wiring, so I put a thick, flat quilt in there to cover it. I have been using it for 5 days and so far, it has been good. I am happy he has more space and the strength of the crate seems to be good. I suppose we shall see over the long haul, but at this point, it's working well. I would recommend this product to anyone and I'm saving up to buy 2 more for my other big dogs. It gives me peace of mind to know he is safe, comfortable and contained when I have to leave my home.Tina C.
I wish this was the first crate I bought for my dog. She wrecked 2 of the wire metal crates and even escaped from one. I have no idea how she damaged the other crates without hurting herself in the process. NOW! I do not worry about that. She tries to chew on the bars but only manages to peel some of the dark coating off. She is 60 lbs and she shuffles her bedding around a bit but she can not bend the bars or move the placement of the crate in any way. Two of the bars were bent during shipping so one of the screw placements does not align. But that has not decreased the integrity of the crate at all. This crate has made me a lot more relaxed to know that when I leave the dog is safe. It's also really easy to collapse and fold up and to add or remove the wheels. I purchased this kennel five years ago. When I rescued our Border Collie they told me she would escape every kind of kennel. And I thought, “She won’t break out of a metal kennel.” Well, she tore through two metal kennels, bent them beyond use, and hopped or walked them across rooms!! So, I began the search. I bought this steel kennel, with two action locking, and “Bailey” could not get out of it! She had a horrible first year of life and now we have been loving on her for five years. She is still afraid of men. And now Bailey uses her steel kennel as her “Safety Place”. If we have company over or a repair man come in, she “tells” them what she thinks, Ha, and then retreats to her kennel. We just returned from a 42 day vacation where we slept at different KOAs and hotels and the kennel came with us!! We simply loaded it in the back of the truck and she knew she was safe everywhere we went. It’s on rollers so no problem getting it in and out. I have the 36” size. I’m a lady, 5’3”, in my 60’s and I can handle moving the kennel. It’s a bit heavy I admit, but once it’s on the ground it rolls like a charm. Definitely worth every penny!Debi C.M.

I got this for a ~60lbs. labrador retriever and he seems to love it. Big enough on the inside for him to stand, turn around, and lay comfortably. It's sturdy, but not so heavy that it doesn't move around a little bit when he changes positions. It was easy enough to put together. A couple of the plastic screws didn't seem to have the ends filed off all the way (hard to describe but basically instead of a flat end, the plastic stuck out a little extra on one side instead of being flat across), which made them harder to fit straight through the holes in assembly. Fortunately, they send a few extra, so I had enough that were straight enough to put the crate together. Also, just be aware of the plastic bottom – I ran my hand across the bottom to clean it before putting it together and scraped my hand on a piece of plastic that stuck up a little (it was like a little ring manufacturing imprint). I filed it down before letting my dog in so he wouldn't get scraped on it, but just something to be on the look out for.Labbadabbadoo
The sizing recommendation by the manufacturer seems to be off. Dimensions are not the actual dimensions if you were to take a measuring tape and measure yourself. For my 55 lb border collie mix who sits at 27 inches tall and stands at 37 inches long from nose to base of tail a large would not fit. I ordered the XX Large and that is a way better fit where she can actually sit without being hunched over. This was purchased for air travel as well so I want her to be as comfortable as possible. The material seems relatively durable but it did arrive with a large crack so I will be exchanging. Compared to the Petmate Sky Kennel, this kennel seemed a little bit thinner in material and not as study. However, I order a Sky Kennel in a size Large so perhaps a sizing difference might have affected this. Also, currently, the Sky Kennel is available for a better price on Amazon but not in the size I am looking for.Zozobozo

She may become 30-40lbs and this kennel will be all we need. Our use is for nighttime and when we go out. We have the gray which does not stand out. It is a neutral color and looks good in your kitchen, bedroom or where you keep your dog. The kennel also provides a rectangular cage on both sides on the top half so the dog can look out. The 4 way locking mechanism on the door of this kennel has repeatedly failed. The first time it broke they offered me a replacement door. The second time they said "we already offered you a one time replacement. Let me se if we have a door available for you to purchase." A $300 kennel should last at least the lifetime of one dog. We needed an airport approved crate to travel to Japan, since ours was not. Crate is very secure, well made! It comes with everything you need to travel. We did switch out the bolts with the petco travel pack sold in stores to be airline compliant. Glad we made this purchase, our pup made it safe and sound and we felt at ease knowing the locking system was way more sturdier than our last crate.CoroLina

The crate had obviously been used and returned. The metal was rusted in places and the plastic bottom tray was dirty. When I decided to return it, It was a challenge to get it back in the box. When I took it back to the store, I asked about a discount and received 15% off (the tax). I had previously bought one that was marked down by 50% because the box was damaged. I was quite disappointed in the whole experience. Apparently the merchandise was supposed to be checked if the box was damaged and that wasn’t done in this case.Janice
I've owned dogs for the last 40 years. I've used MidWest wire crates for my last 4 dogs. This iCrate didn't disappoint. It's sturdy and and easy to put up and take down. I use them when I travel with my dogs too. My dogs only use their crates for sleeping in at night or napping in during the day. During the day, their crate doors are left open. I close the dogs in at night. I don't have an issue with my dogs trying to escape from their crates, so I can't speak to whether or not this would be sturdy enough for a dog that's determined to get out of their crate. These crates are more than sturdy enough for my miniature Schnauzer, Havanese, and Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. All three of my dogs love their MidWest iCrates, as did my previous dog! They go in them voluntarily and when told to "crate up". My only concern with the current crate I ordered is that that one of the latches isn't lined up quite right so it's a bit tight when closing the crate door. I bent it slightly and it works much better. I haven't had that issue with any of the previous MidWest crates I've used. I'm a MidWest crate fan.Eddie09
We bought this in April 2022 for our Rhodesian Ridgeback mix puppy. He was weeks old when we rescued him. He was a Parvo pup and barely survived, so rest and his own quiet space was highly recommended for recovery. We first used the divider which was great. However, as he grew, so did his strength. It definitely is not strong enough for large dogs. Even for short amounts of time. At the moment he is 6 months and 60 pounds. Thankfully he did not get out nor hurt himself! Putting this together – I would say that the plastic is a good construction, the clasps and screws are great, and the metal bars for the windows look to be a decent quality. They ship you extra clips and screws in case you have a problem. I personally don't like the wheels (on any crate), so I'll leave those off and the pet bowl might be okay if I was sending the dog via airplane. The Large size isn't very large in my opinion. A dog should be able to stand up, turn around and lay down. I think this crate is more like a 50 pound max than 75. My 10 week old Golden Female Retriever will likely outgrow this kennel in 6 months and be in that weight range. In a way I'd like to exchange it for a bigger one.RichH

Buy once, cry once. It's the longest high quality rotomolded kennel on the market. Slightly narrow but I'd rather have the narrowness than sacrifice the length. Gunners are 33 inches long, the hero is 35. Two inches might not sound like much but that's the difference between my 95lb Chesapeake being able to lie down straight or not. A similar sized dog in the largest gunner kennel would have no choice but to lie down on his side, and curl a bit. Any retriever will fit comfortably in this kennel, although they won't have a ton of sprawling room. It also fits perfectly in the back of an f150 super crew cab, with the rear seat up, which is a nice option. Gunners are too wide, which is where that slight narrowness pays off. It's crazy expensive, but it's totally bomb proof.Jason370
