Best Dog Dental Toy (Jan 2023 Update)

I ordered these for my rescue pup for when we leave the house. They're great! She is very attached to me so giving her one of these kongs with peanut butter in her kennel right before we leave works perfectly! They material is very durable! My pup likes to chew on rubber toys and has chewed pieces off many of the ones she has. However, she has not been able to chew anything off of these kongs!kimberley.w

Kong dog toys make great dog chews with added fun! Some dogs love to chew and will chew things just for something to do and having a kong toy on hand to occupy them is a good idea. You can add peanut butter inside the Kong and it will keep them busy trying to get the treat out of it. It provides hours of fun and the dogs don't ever get sick of playing with it and chewing on it. They are made of super durable rubber. They are pretty close to indestructible. They withstand hours and hours of rough play without falling apart and puppies sharp teeth are no match for Kong. I used to buy nylabones but my dogs seem to use the Kong a lot more. I know with my dogs they love anything new they get for a little while and then they kind of get sick of it and stop playing with it. The Kong has really kept My dogs intrest and I think it's because of the added treat inside. My border collie thinks that she was put on this earth to destroy any and everything in get path. She has destroyed many a door and window from her incessant chewing and most toys hold no interest with her but even she loves Kong toys. I don't know about the breath freshening but I can say that the kongs must clean there teeth because of the rubber dragging across the teeth so much as they chew and lick. Its a long lasting toy that will definitely provide lots of fun. They are available at most pet care supply stores. They are a bit expensive, but it's worth it for how long lasting they are. They are a much safer alternative to rawhides or bones. No worry about them choking or swallowing none splinters. Check the Kong for damages before use and it's pretty safe. I think most dogs will love it and it should clean the teeth if they chew on it. I would recommend it to dogs who are energetic or dogs who love to chew. It works great for my dog who looses interest very quickly in toys so if and when she wears hers out I will definitely go out and purchase another for her.lindsey4488

Every dog loves this. Seriously. Fill them with peanut butter and treats – bam, a yummy toy. Throw it around the house so it bounces around and hits everything – bam, a destructive toy. It does the job. It doesn’t always do the best at clumping, so sometimes it means I leave behind unclean litter while scooping. But when it works, it lets me scoop the dirty litter and leave behind the clean. It’s so helpful for not wasting litter.evelyn.k

I have 2 female felines and only 1 littler box . I do scoop every day . With some other brands I still can smell a very unpleasant Oder and I can’t stand it !!! I hate constantly having to change thier litter box completely..teresa.c

This is the first brand I used for my husky puppy. He went through 3 of them. Now that he is older I bought more and they last forever. Every morning and evening he would play with them. It keeps him quiet. Occupied. And distracts him from chewing on the walls. I will never stop buying from this brand. They need to create tough plush toys for hard chewers.tammy.l

I love the shape of this one! Murphy likes it (although not as much as some of their other toys, like the fishbone and maplestick), and it's very durable. The shape is unique and I think the rirdges definitely help clean his teeth a bit more when he's chewing. I love that it comes in different sizes/flavors (as well as a puppy variety!) so you can find the right toy for your dog. I have a frenchie that is an incredibly destructive chewer that will rip through any “tough” plush toy in less than 30 minutes. It’s hard to find non-plush toys that will keep his interest though, but this one is incredible. I’ve had it for a couple weeks and he chews on it for at least an hour every single day, it’s his favorite toy!! I even got him a plush one at the same time and he has been so engaged with this one that he hasn’t torn it up yet! This is the best toy I’ve ever gotten for him, I will be rebuying whenever it finally gives out (don’t think that will be any time soon though). Can’t recommend this enough!!Chloe

My mini poodle loves these bones! In fact, he can’t go to bed without one! They are perfect for small dogs and last FOREVER! Although, they are quick to chew the inside part out! Even when it’s gone, he still chews on it for months! A 2 pack will last 6 months are longer. My poodle literally has to have one every night! He sleeps with us, and has to select the one he’s in the mood for. Lol. My shih-tzu kind of chews on them. He likes them a lot, but prefers stuffed toys. Chew 'n Clean – Hartz® Chew ‘n Clean® Dental Duo™ Extra Small treats are supposed to be good for keeping dog's teeth clean from tartar and to exercise their gums. This size is for dogs under ten pounds. My older dog didn't have any interest in it whatsoever but the two puppies I just got played and chewed on it once in awhile. The chew is a treat and toy in one, These are made for dogs that aren't heavy chewers. My concerns with these Chew 'n Clean Dental Duo chew toys are the plastic can be chewed off and ingested, since it smells like the treat inside the dog will think it is food. I also don't like the idea that these are made in China, a country with recalls on various products already. I am also hesitant about the ingredients these are made from, such as corn, rice and potato starch, artificial bacon flavor, a preservative, and artificial yellow coloring. I don't think I would purchase these in the future for the above reasons, there are better options available.soccerkidsmom

I felt badly taking it away from her because she was having a great time with it. So had I known the strength of her jaws, I wouldn't have bought it. my dog is OBSESSED with this toy. He's had it for 2 weeks and won't go anywhere in the house without it. The amazing part is that the rope ring is still intact- he has a destructive jaw and soft/ rope toys never last more than a few days in our house.mg20

I purchased this toy because it claims to be for power chewers and I liked the concept of the rings (seemed like it would last longer). However, my 1 year old pocket pitbull (like a mini pit) chewed through this on the first day within a number of minutes. Granted, she chews through about anything but this toy didn't seem as durable as the company claims. It may be wiser to purchase for a smaller dog, but definitely wouldn't recommend for medium/large dogs that are power chewers.pocketfullofpit

My puppy is in her "chewing stage" and this toy is prefect. Its not to hard and has bumps and rope to keep her focus on the toy instead of other things like shoes. it is a good quality natural rubber with sweet taste. it is not too hard or too soft for my pet. it is not too heavy or lightweight. its size is good fit for my small doggies. my doggies don't like brushing tooth with toothpaste. it is a food container. I put some treats into this toy and give it to my doggies. my doggies love sweet smelling from this toy and keep chewing it. it is really funny and attractive. my doggies spend a whole day to take treats out of it. This ring was the best investment! My pup goes through most chew toys in minutes as she LOVES to chew. This ring lasted a little over 7 months before she got to the red “safety” layer. I sent it in for the guarantee (paid shipping both ways, around $15) and got a brand new one! My pup has been chomping the new one for almost 2 months and it’s going strong. HIGHLY recommend for pups that love to chew! I want to mention that it is fairly large and heavy (my pup loves to swing it around and it has a somewhat frightening loud drop – but you get used to it). It also smells rubbery (because it’s a really high quality rubber) and now my pup thinks things like erasers are her toys. But with those things in mind this is one of my pup’s favorite toys and I will now forever have a goughnuts (maxx 50) ring for her to chew!lizzie.p

I liked that this chew toy was durable and had some weight to it, but my dog doesn’t play with the toy at all. I believe this is the toy he could not “destroy” and didn’t want anything to do with it. It did have a rubbery smell, so he might have been turned off by that, but it was a waste of money for me. This is an amazing product, tough, good size & well made. Mabel my dog took to it right away….and then…..when it wouldn't break up or fall apart – she wasn't that impressed. HOWEVER – as her other toys are getting ruined & chucked, there is less choice for her & she is having another "go" at the GoughNut. So not overly satisfying for her at this early stage – but VERY satisfying as an owner. I can see that in no time – this will be her only chewing toy remaining & it will last. Currently I use it as fetch play with her & she very happy – and it will become part of her routine in a short while I think. GREAT VALUEErica

You needed a bigger size. Generally, I would recommend sizing up once or twice anyway. The smaller ones are too small and not as thick of material therefore easier for any size dog to tear up. Additionally, if the toy isn’t full of snacks, take it away. Don’t let them chew on the toy itself just as a chew toy. That is another reason why the toy may get damaged. If the dog is focused on getting the snack out, they’ll be much less focused on destructive behaviors and tearing things apart. If you have a puppy, remember they teethe and it HURTS. They self sooth by chewing. Give them things it’s okay to chew on/destroy like Nyla bones (which seriously last forever even in strong determined breeds). Last thing to mention, is that if you really want to go with indestructible, prefer something that’ll keep them busy for a lot longer periods of time, then get the weighted feeder kong balls. I put some dog food into ours along with some soft small very strong smelling treats and my dogs work on this for HOURS. It’s how they get their meals or at least part of their meal each day. You can fed the whole meal this way if you want. They come in different sizes but the biggest size has worked perfectly for all of my dogs (weights range from 35 to 150lbs). They knock it over and the snack or treat falls out of a little hole. Then they keep working on it little by little, it’s really a great option for keeping them distracted! Just be sure to take it away when they’re not using it anymore so they don’t learn to guard it. This is true with any toy, treat, bone, or food. Offer a few times a day then take away when they’re no longer interested. Free feeding is one of the worst habits to start and makes it difficult for owners to tell quickly when something is off with their pet. I learned this the hard way! (Google this if you don’t believe me) I would still consider these Kong balls to be indestructible IF you use them properly. I have huge, strong dogs, a sharp toothed and very busy heeler and both have had theirs for 4 years without incident and not even a puncture mark into either one. I filled with “mini” milk bones and broken in half “small” milk bones but just read another reviewer said they freeze theirs with pnut butter and treats inside. Amazing! Amazing at entertainment for my dog. Love how we can stick big treats in there and keep him busy whenever we have to leave the house. I think it's a must for training your dog. Be sure to replace it whenever there is damage. As I know a friend's dog had a piece of Kong stuck in his intestine and had to get surgery to remove it. So best to keep the toy until you notice any wear or tear. I like how it has multiple sizes and has really good durability.. this is a really good investment for your dog! We have found many creative ways to entertain our husky/German shep/malamute mutt who has high energy and high affinity to treats. 10/10 would recommend. There's also some Kong specific treats you can find meant to fit into the toy to make it very difficult for the dog to remove it. We like that there is a lot of creative ways to use it. We had two on rotation for when our puppy was teething and needed a lot of attention. Frozen treats allowed for the pup to work on the kong. We use it at home mainly but we do bring it over to our friends house when our dog is staying the night because we are out of town. It's just another tool they can use if they find he needs to calm down and focus instead of rambunctious and playing.terri.n

This is the old classic rubber Kong dog toy. I have the regular size and the small size for my boxer and for my Boston terrier. Its shape causes it to bounce in random directions. My dog absolutely loves this toy. I've put everything in that thing. I have broken up some single ingredient treats and stuffed them in Kong. We refer to my dogs as having ADHD, or a very SHORT attention span, but not with this toy they absolutely love it!! . I put treats as well as peanut butter bananas or yogurt then put them in the freezer. The freezing slows down their ability to clean out the inside quickly so the game lasts a little longer. The rubber is hard enough so they cannot chew through it yet soft on their teeth and gums. The hole is large enough to easily fill the inside as well as wash out the inside after use. Definitely buy multiples so that there are some in the freezer ready to go on those hot days or on those days that you just need a little time to get something done while your dog is occupied. All in all I completely recommend these toys for all dogs of any shape and size.Ysabel

I got this for my dog a few months ago because he is going blind. I wanted a toy that he could smell. He loves playing fetch with the ball, and chewing on it! I like that it is really thick and feels solid because he loves chewing on his toys and playing outside, and it is holding up really well! Don't know what this toy is made of by my dog is obsessed with it, he will just lay there and chew on it all day! Just keep an eye on your dog the first time they have it because they will chew the green rubber off the ends within 5 minutes.Taylor

Playology stuff has been hit or miss for us. One toy lasts a long time, the next is shredded within hours. This one was more on the latter side. Both of the dogs were interested in chewing on it, but within a couple days, I found bits of rubber scattered around their beds. Chewing is supposed to help calm a dog so I have been searching for something that my dog can chew without calories. This is not that product. The first day she had no interest in it at all. I had to smear it with some peanut butter to get her to look at it as the card suggested. She licked it clean and ignored it again. The second day we played fetch and tug with it and she got interested about 15 minutes and she chewed a piece out of it. Not very durable for something meant to be chewed on. I love buying these for my dogs, because they love them, biggest downfall of buying they is they are so hard to get out of the packaging!!!! The package looks good, but that’s it! There has to be a safer, and more people friendly way of packaging this great bone!! I can’t even imagine an elderly person even getting this open if they were to buy one for their dog ☹️TESS

This Hartz Chew ‘n Clean Dental Duo Extra Small treat/chew toy is cute and is a really good size for both my dogs to chew it and eat the treat. At first one of my dog's started chewing it right away and it kept her attention for a good while. Then she got tired and went to get some water to drink. When she got back to her treat, my other dog got the treat/chew toy and started chewing it and it kept his attention for a good while as well. It is a good size treat for my dogs to chew and play with because it is a small size, it is not heavy, and it fits in their mouth pretty well. They both enjoyed chewing it one at a time.
