With this collar i was able to train my hunting dog to have 100 percent recall in all situations, in a handful of sessions. My previous yard collar did not have enough range. I also bought the beeper which is useful in heavy cover. The charging system makes the collar absolutely waterproof which is good. And when the dial broke in the field it was a friendly two minute phonecall to Sportdog to have a new transmitter on its way to me.

Four months ago we picked up a 3 year old yellow lab at a shelter near Denver. The dog is lovable, has had some hunting experience, but was WILD when we got him. It was necessary to keep him tethered at all times, or he was GONE for 20 minutes pursuing some scent in the nearby forest (we back up to public land). I bought the sport dog 425x for my lab a few months ago & loved it but it recently fell off him while we were walking on a trail and I was never able to find it. I have been having problems with my younger male dog jumping on my old, crippled female dog when I walked them. They always seemed to be just out of my reach when he would jump on her. I worked with him for weeks trying to get him to quit jumping on her and biting her neck. I put the training collar on him and corrected his behavior in two or three days. I had to correct him several times with a stronger correction the first day I put the collar on him. After the first day, he responded quickly to a nick. Now I use the tone to remind him to leave her alone. We finally have a peaceful walk in the wood each morning.51kmiller
Provides great versatility for settings and strengths in order to find the perfect one for both your dog and you. I loved that I could quickly change the level of stimulation on the dial, even in front of the dog, without having to pry the back of the remote open and drawing attention to the device. I do wish that I could change the levels of vibration more but, I can still slowly increase the levels of stimulation. I tried it on my hand between vibration and stimulation and level 1 was higher than I expected but, still appropriate. The positive is that there's a half second small stimulation option that is also included in the vibration and tone setting. You can safely increase to see what your dog responds to (without the dog yelping). Regardless, I was able to go from vibration to a half second small stimulation which would be suitable for a more sensitive dog however; did not phase my more dominant, less sensitive dog and found that I even had to increase the longer lasting stimulation with him in a safe way. If you wish to change modes/settings on this device, you do have to go away from the dog for this but, with the table the book provides, that part was easy. (I did have to use mechanical pencil for this – using buckle adjuster did not work for me). I HIGHLY recommendto NOT use these collars unless you know exactly how to properly use them (by an actual dog trainer). These collars have to be used very precisely with little to no room for error. FYI: What I tell everyone, if you've signed up for a "PetSmart dog trainer" or some other pet store employee dog training, this is not your product and they would not be able to train you how to use one.jasagri-0
It seems to be working fine. One feature lacking, which my original model had, is the ability to turn the collar receiver on/off while on the dog (button is on the side of receiver between the two electrodes touching the dogs skin). The on/off button is a bit difficult to activate even when the collar is not on the dog. The tone seems faint, but my dog has no trouble hearing it. Had no way of checking range. I guess they made the collar very stiff for durability, but I have significant difficulty bending it just right to pass the pin of the buckle through the correct hole.numuno

I purchased this one as I wanted a wireless version vs the perimeter one I had to bury. We use this when we go fishing as well as around the house. We have only had to use the continuous shock once at level 2. The tone works so well we dont really need the other features but we have them just in case, our dog decides to be really stubborn in the future. My favorite is how easy it is to use, charge and the fact the tone is the best way to get my dog's attention. It has not taken long for him to know the remote goes to his collar and that just showing him he knows to heel or the tone sound will come on and get his attention quickly. My sister is purchasing one as well since my purchase, as she has seen how much it has helped our strong willed dog. He just needed a little extra guidance for his safety as we live off a highway and next to woods with coyotes. Definitely would buy again and looking forward to showing my sister how to work hers next week.Countrysun
Really enjoy the simplicity of the collar and remote. My only wish is that the vibrate setting was higher, our deaf American bully doesn't respond to the vibrate setting very well. Literally bought this as my second attempt first was a petsafe wireless fence and it wasn’t as user friendly as this petsport with a remote. I’m able to keep basic corrections in house and outside in the yard! I was worried it wouldn’t be small enough for my mini Heeler but the collar comes with an abundant amount of holes for proper fit on anything ! Supper pleased with the collar and the three bases it has for training. The beep tone the one hit simulation and the longer hit stimulation gives me theee options to ask my dog according to what she’s doing. I like that it can be supper mild and allow her the chance to be asked nicely and then reinforced mildly and then reinforcement with a sterner setting. A true life saver. My pup was running out to the neighbors across the street and up to meet cars it literally only took thirty mins in house training on basics and then outside yard training for a little under an hour! I am now no longer stressed about her getting hurt she comes right back to me and treats me as I am her safe spot! The 435 X series is really nice and has a small remote control that fits into my hand (I am only 5'4). The XS series is stronger (for large dogs that can be stubborn) and was too much for my need… that's why I really wanted the X series. The 825 X is the same as the 425 X except is has a longer distance reach (1/2 mile) but the remote is a little big bigger. Works great…. make sure you read the manual for the different settings and understand that this is not a training tool per say but a corrective tool (meaning your dog has to know and understand commands BEFORE using it)…Do NOT use as a punitive tool. The nice thing is this item allows you to choose either tone, vibration, or static mode. 99% of the time I only need to use vibration for my dog to get his attention (he cN get sobfocused on a scent that he doesn't pay attention to my commands). He sometimes takes off after a rabbit/wild pig etc. and that's when I have to use the static mode to quickly get his attention away from his chase. I really like that it is waterproof (my dog swims into ponds and rivers)…some other brands claim to be waterproof but really mean to say water resistant! If it doesn't show water depth then it is not waterproof. Quality product worth the money.Noone12345
I have tried everything I knew with this dog, built a relationship with him, treats, toys, praise and I wasn’t able to find anything that would motivate him to actually follow the commands that I knew he knew. I was afraid to use a “shock collar” because I thought it was going to be cruel but it had been 5 months where this 3 year old pit was with me and there seemed to be no progress. I really was not able to find something that worked. I was at a loss and willing to try just about anything. I watched some of the training videos on sportdog’s page. I ended up buying this and I charged it up like they said. I then tried it on myself first. I was very surprised, it reminded me of a tens machine that the chiropractor uses, not what I thought it was going to be at all. It’s been 3 days since I started to use this collar (425XS) and he is responding to voice commands now and the “beep” function on the collar. It is a pleasure taking him out and I’m sure he enjoys not having to be on just a 6’ leash and he gets to run around.Trucker Jeff
Bought this for the intention of training my bulldog to stop running out of our driveway. Never had to use the vibration setting only the beep setting, and seems to work perfectly. Plenty of length on the collar to fit his big neck and then some . Also have used it on my schnauzer and mini doodle .Dawggang

I have had this for over a year now and it still works just as good as the day I bought it. I recomend this to anyone that wants to train their dog. I may have used the shocking part maybe 5 times at the most now the only thing I use on it is the warning because my dog knows when I call him he comes running. I have also trained him not to go out of my gate and the only thing I had to do was warn him when he got close to the gate and he has learned not to even go close to the gate. He is now 7 years old and when it is his time to go to heaven the next puppy I get I will defiantly be introducing my new dog this collar. It is the easiest way to train a dog. I don't think it is to harsh once they know what happens to them if they don't listen you never haft to use the shock part anymore. If you do need to use the shock part it is because they really need it. I highly recommend this to anyone that is trying to train their do It is well worth every penny and it will last forever as long as you take care of it. Uncoil and check wire before installing. Quality control problem – after digging and installing most of the wire, the last 20 or 30 feet at the end of the coil had breaks in the protective coating every few inches. As we needed the broken wire to finish the loop, every break had to be repaired with electrical tape adding a couple extra hours to finish the install – frustrating. was required.Dive

I purchased an orange one and a black one. The orange one is fine and works great. The black one is clearly a refurbished piece of garbage. It was nice being able to confirm that because I purchased two (a burden that should not be in any consumer with only one dog). The beeping (during noise only function) is at a significantly lower decimal than the orange one. AND…the stimulation is much weaker. They will not send me a new item.
