My avid little mouser cat caught herself a little prize just a few days before a month-prior planned trip my husband and i were unavoidably about to go to. Apparently that mouse had bitten her back in the process, right on her tender little lip cleft! Before we knew it, that bite had gotten infected so bad she became lethargic, her face swollen an angry shade of red, she could not eat or even drink on her own and she could not even close her mouth and was drooling on herself. Because of the covid situation and proximity of timing to our trip to see family, there was no way to get her to a vet in time before we had to leave in 3-4 days. So we did the best we could with a dropper to feed and water her and rushed out to get Vetericyn to help stave off the infection which reduced the angry redness to a healthier pinkish. For the very few days we had before we had to go, I was keeping her hydrated and was spraying her face with the Vetericyn regularly (as directed) even as we headed out the door with one last treatment. We did cut our weekend trip short by a day out of concern for her, but when we came back she was doing significantly better in that the swelling was down, but was reddened again. Back to the spray treatment, make sure she got dropper-watered, and by that evening she was gingerly back to parking in her 'askance' spot hoping for bits of our chicken dinner! I fully believe that had we not gotten Vetericyn and treated her with it in the few days prior to leaving that we wouldn't still have her today. Using this for hot spots on my canine, this stuff does work but it sometimes can take up to 2 8oz. Bottles to heal the area's treated. Not sure if it's the strength of medicine or just those stubborn spots. I caught the spots early on and started treating them immediately and have been treating them for a month now and they are getting better but slowly, these things are stubborn. I can say that absolutely nothing else I tried worked. Believe it or not, I read online the other day that rubbing Pepto Bismol on hot spots actually works, you heard right, Pepto Bismol. I haven't had the nerve to try it as I thought it could just be some nut trying to infect your pet even worse. My mare, Smoke, got herself tangled in a barbed wire fence last September. It was the week of State Finals! I was distraught I had to take another horse. First we tried iodine and baking powder to heal Smoke's lacerations. It helped, but was not making the progress I was hoping for. We bought this product to see if we could get Smoke legged back up. My horse was found with a horrible cut, outcome did not look good at all, our vet was no where near close to our house. But luckily I work at Carolinas Animal Health and knew what I needed to get. I had used this to clean wounds or as a liquid bandage after I used hosing with my own disinfecting formula. In cold weather when I did not want to hose constantly this stuff was great. My border collie was attacked by a mountain lion and spent several days hiding somewhere. I thought he was dead after hearing that cat scream. One morning, there he was on the porch a huge stinking mass of blood, tissue, fur and dirt.  I managed to get him into the bath tub and washed him for two and a half hours to get the dried blood and dirt off him. We then drove to the vet. After sedating him, she started clipping and exposed a would that was twelve inches by 18 inches and bones were exposed. We had to chip  and pick away the infected bone in his spine and shoulder. This was a huge wound. The vet made a  dressing for it and of course gave him a shot of antibiotics and  sent him home with an oral course to be given. The dressing needed to be changed and cleaned every day and I finally would clean it and use Vetericyn Spray and gel, cover with an adult diaper and wrap with Vetrap. We did this for two months finally getting to Newborn size diapers. Through all this he continued to work on the farm as if nothing had happened despite a limp from the sore shoulder. Since that time I have used Vetericyn on dogs cats and horses and the eye formula for cattle. I had a horrible leg wound that a plastic surgeon said would require skin grafts. I bought this product Saturday and used it Sunday on my mare since she got her foot stuck in the fence and she pull it out and ripped off the hid of her ankle right above the coronary band. I used many products before I bought and used this product! With that being said I put this on the huge cuts Sunday, then went and checked it today (Monday) and I saw a huge difference in the healing process. I was hoping this would negate the need for the huge buster collar however, she would still lick at it through the sleeve and make it wet therefore increasing the risk of infection to the wound. She therefore still had to wear the buster collar as well as the sleeve to stop her licking it. Within a couple of days, there was a hole in the material of the sleeve and since then, a further tear has developed, so the quality of the material is not that good. She has also worked out how to get her leg out of it so all in all, it hasn’t been that great! That said, I would still recommend using one as it was better than not having the wound covered at all but for me, it didn’t negate the need for a buster collar unfortunately.Julieann
1 Very happy owner and one calm snoring Dog. He`s been at the top of his leg the last few days and licked it raw . No socks long enough and a long sleeved T shirt was not a success . Ordered this sleeve out of desperation . Money well spent ….. came in a flash and as soon as I put it on he seemed really excited and happy, running round barking the way he does before we go a walk. Now he`s sleeping and not looked at his leg once. Its made of a sweatshirt type fabric , the leg size is more important than body girth as there is lots of Velcro and poppers so easy to adjust so it fits comfortably , I`m glad I did not go for the XL as his chest measurement was borderline the L fits perfectly. This item was recommended by a vet as my dog wouldn’t stop licking an open sore. We tried the common collar but she’s just too old for that and it was distressing for us both. I bought this for my dog Tilly – who stepped on a Thawn – and has constantly been licking her paws. It caused and infection in her foot so I immediately started searching for other creams or antibacterial sprays. I found this 5 star product as the first pop up I saw, and thought it looked a great amazing cream with almost all positive reviews and at first I saw no impact on the feet and considered changing creams to a spray instead but I gave it one more night and when I woke up the next morning the impact for her was huge! I was so pleased at purchased another just in case. It’s a great product and recommend it for sores and bumps but definitely not open wounds. My poor pupper got irritated paws from horrible ginko berries smashed all over the fall ground and then made them worse by licking. They were so red and I felt so bad. This product is on the shelf next to a dozen others that claim to do the same thing, but I didn't get to it until three others didn't get the job done. This showed visible improvement within a day. Bonus that he didn't lick it off – before I tried this I would combo an antimicrobial with one of those "bitter taste dogs hate" sprays, but my dog is weird and loved those things and would lick them like crazy. My avid little mouser cat caught herself a little prize just a few days before a month-prior planned trip my husband and i were unavoidably about to go to. Apparently that mouse had bitten her back in the process, right on her tender little lip cleft! Before we knew it, that bite had gotten infected so bad she became lethargic, her face swollen an angry shade of red, she could not eat or even drink on her own and she could not even close her mouth and was drooling on herself. Because of the covid situation and proximity of timing to our trip to see family, there was no way to get her to a vet in time before we had to leave in 3-4 days. So we did the best we could with a dropper to feed and water her and rushed out to get Vetericyn to help stave off the infection which reduced the angry redness to a healthier pinkish. For the very few days we had before we had to go, I was keeping her hydrated and was spraying her face with the Vetericyn regularly (as directed) even as we headed out the door with one last treatment. We did cut our weekend trip short by a day out of concern for her, but when we came back she was doing significantly better in that the swelling was down, but was reddened again. Back to the spray treatment, make sure she got dropper-watered, and by that evening she was gingerly back to parking in her 'askance' spot hoping for bits of our chicken dinner! Using this for hot spots on my canine, this stuff does work but it sometimes can take up to 2 8oz. Bottles to heal the area's treated. Not sure if it's the strength of medicine or just those stubborn spots. I caught the spots early on and started treating them immediately and have been treating them for a month now and they are getting better but slowly, these things are stubborn. I can say that absolutely nothing else I tried worked. Believe it or not, I read online the other day that rubbing Pepto Bismol on hot spots actually works, you heard right, Pepto Bismol. I haven't had the nerve to try it as I thought it could just be some nut trying to infect your pet even worse. If your dog needs to wear something to stop them interfering with incisions post surgery then this suit works a treat and is much kinder to them than the dreaded cone. Very glad I purchased this.
