Have had this door for 3 years and it's still going strong. was easy to install, but I have to replace the seal strip every year or so. First off, I bought the medium sized door (11×8), which is claimed to be for medium pets weighing up to 35 pounds. There would be no way a pet weighing that much could fit through the door. This size door is more for small pets (cats, which I have that weigh 10 to 15 pounds). So I made the right choice by going bigger. It's the perfect size for them, and they get through the door comfortably. A small door would have been a tight squeeze. I installed this pet door against the patio door that doesn't slide. That was the only way that made sense, and would also provide some form of security. Installing this against the sliding door would not work, would not seal, and would not lock. Buy yourself some extra weather stripping (the soft stuff). The hard weather stripping provided with this door is useless. Be prepared to improvise and buy extra hardware to actually make this door fit securely and work with the patio doors. My extra expenses were $35. All in all, I'd recommend the door, but be prepared to do a fair amount of work to make it fit securely. But still this is not buglar proof. It will be an easy access point for someone to break into your home. I don't see how this, or any pet door, could be made completely secure.Mensa8

The PlexiDor is a well made item that in my opinion is worth the price. The fit and finish on the unit is excellent and it even has the person's name on it who made it. That's a pretty good sign they take pride in their work. Installation took longer than expected but that was due to my own lack of skill and not having the right tools. It only took one trip to Home Depot to get what I needed. I am really surprised by how airtight it is. The doors close tightly and I feel very little air leakage from it. I have it installed in a basement door at the bottom of stairs and even though a lot of cold air collects in this area the PlexiDor manages to seal well. This is probably the best money I have ever spent. I live in GA where it gets HOT in the summer but this is insulated so well and there are no drafts in the winter. My 2 50ish lb dogs burst through this many times each day and it is indestructible. I don't have to play doorman anymore! I had one issue with the lock and they sent me a new lock mechanism right away, but I was able to fix it in about 15 minutes without needing to replace the whole lock anyway. Word to the wise, do not caulk the door on the inside so that you can remove it if/when you need to change the lock. Also, they sell a track system to add on that allows you to slide the security plate on daily/nightly (instead of screwing it on), which is super convenient and a great design.Jennifer R.

Learn from my mistake and run far away!!! This door was somewhat convenient when first installed, but I quickly found that the transmitter didn't always work, which left my dog inside or outside at times. However, with the first hard rain, this door became a disaster. The door flap leaked water all over my floor, both under the flap and down through the body of the dog door. I didn't discover the flooding until a large puddle had developed, warping and splintering my hardwood. I spent two hours on my knees mopping with towels and trying to seal things with duct tape as the rain continued to flood in under the flap opening. When I called the company, I was told that, since the door had been purchased over 90 days prior, that "the credit card company won't let us do a refund so we can't" (obvious untruth) and that the owner would only let me return it for store credit. They had no interest in finding out what the problem/defect was and trying to cure it or change it so as not to do this to other consumers. I'm was already out the cost of the purchase, hiring a contractor, and having it installed, and now I have to buy a new door and have it put in, as well as repairing my cupped, splintering flooring. Do they really think I'd want to have store credit to buy another one? This failed experiment has cost me well over $1000 so far. Unfortunately the door only works with the collar which is junk and even after you buy their expensive batteries will not work because it is junk. After reading all of the reviews, the VERY common problem is the hinge. This is going to be my 3rd or 4th door and second to purchase (the sizable hole is hard to find a replacement for), most EVERYONE has had the exact same broken and weak point of the hinge. Some of these comments are from long enough ago, you would think that the company would look at the common problems and try and fix the issue. I've had this door for a year now, and after a year of modifying, and remodifying, I give. Simply not a great door for strong dogs. Our doberman broke the door out initially, it was put back in place. The 2nd time he broke it out some of the plastic fasteners broke off. My SO ended up modifying the door with an aluminum strip and all new hardware. It's been broken off several times even with the new modifications. The key backs fall off and we didn't end up using them anyways to begin with. The frame is solid, we got the wall kit which is flimsy and had to seal ourselves but nonetheless it's installed. I'd love to order another model that will fit the already permanent opening. As of current, our heat's turned off until we figure out what to do to fix the door. Purchased the door about a month ago. We have 4 dogs ranging in size from 6.5 lb to 60 lb. All of them use the door even the little guy. The big dog did not need any training at all he instinctively new when it went click he could go! I was concerned about the reviews but it seemed to me that these were all very large dogs by height and the photos of the installs seemed low to me. I would recommend the product. No more getting up two or three times a night. YAAA I installed it myself, granted I am more of a handyman than most, but I am also over the 65 mark +. So I would expect the young bucks to do it even faster. But you do need to have a supply of the D cells. Batteries are not what they used to be and you only get about a month or a little less use. At first we were discouraged to buy this panel that replaces the original glass in an existing sliding glass door because we couldn’t find a glazier in our area that would come out and remove the glass to measure prior to ordering. However, after watching a few YouTube videos, we decided to try it ourselves and found it to be relatively easy. The door functions just as expected, we love the security, safety, and energy efficiency advantages it has over our previous panel insert. Our only complaint is that several of the trim pieces attached to the panel when it arrived are too long and don’t meet nicely in the corners and look sloppy. Hopefully this won’t effect the longevity of the product.Christian J.

This is a great product, but you'll really not save much trying to DIY these in-glass pet doors when you factor in your time and risk. In most metro areas you can find a glass shop that will come out and measure your door and pet, order the materials, and install it for about the same price as if you ordered the product yourself and then called a glass shop to install it. One stop shop. Difference is the risk is on the glass shop for the measurement, handling your door, damage, etc. Sliding doors are very heavy, the glazing beads are often fragile and can't be replaced, doors often won't come out of the track without some skilled manipulation by 2 people with prybars. Definitely get this product, its great. Just don't be the middle man and DIY it. Call a glass shop and let them handle the entire transaction and installation.Michael G.
