Good concept let down by inadequate rechargeable battery and fiddly recharging process. Charging involves unscrewing and removing the battery cover, unplugging the battery wire from its internal connection and plugging it in to a proprietary charging cable (which then connects to a USB port). The process is reversed to reinstall the battery but it only gives 20 to 30 minutes play time before the whole procedure needs to be repeated.Pins
Bought this for my 3 year old’s birthday and she loves it. I think it does a lot, especially for what it cost, and we’ve still got more to learn with it. The only thing that brings the rating down for me is the battery life and charging. The battery doesn’t last very long at all, which I had read in other reviews, and it’s a bit of a pain to charge up. Charger doesn’t plug straight it, you have to unscrew the battery compartment and remove the battery to charge it. If the battery life was longer this wouldn’t be so annoying, but I’d say she probably gets 45 mins to an hour play before it needs charging again! The robot itself is good, my daughter loves it, and we are impressed with it in general. Just be aware of the battery/charging situation.Jeni
Firstly, may I talk about charging. I was a bit disappointed that you can't simply plug a USB cable into it. Okay, this may be something to do with childproofing, but you have to unscrew a cover, remove a battery pack and charge with a very flimsy and unique cable plugged into a computer or plug (not supplied) but a phone charger would be fine. This for me is a chore. Another down side is the instructions, pretty useless. You basically press a button on the remote for the puppy to perform an action. Okay, fine. But to program it? No information…. anywhere. Guard the room feature, no information whatsoever. A note for the manufacture would be to be able to switch off the tunes it sometimes plays and just hear the dog sounds on their own, the electronic sounds drown out the actual puppy. One person mentioned the floor covering. Whilst I was prepared to use it on a hard surface, I agree that sometimes the toy struggles with wheel spin, slipping, but I have managed to get it to work on a very short pile carpet. When the unit goes into standby, you have to switch it off and on again, the remote doesn't wake it up and as for the follow me or gestures features, they don't work well at all. No tail wagging, a missed opportunity for something that obviously a puppy would do and put a smile on the kids face, a shame in my opinion. Longevity: This is a toy that may not keep one's attention for very long, but as in the title, what you get is pretty good for the money and further more, a three year warranty means that if it is put in the back of the cupboard for months at a time, the security of a long warranty is reassuring. Ultimately, a good giggle, but will lose its appeal fairly quickly. Perhaps once finished with, pass to a friend or relative and so on.Boof

I wish I read all the review before I purchase. The commercial shows all short of good things and provide promises. But it doesn't work as per. Changes gets out within a short time. It doesn't have any obstacle sensor or sense. It cannot go back to its base station as they advertise – and thus if the battery dies – you have to manually hold base station and the dog. I bought two for my twin grandsons. Reading the reviews, I was nervous so I decided to really check them out first. It takes some learning and gives you a chance to charge the robot, the watch and put 4 AAA batteries in the ball. On one unit the robot would get into position to charge on it's base but would not sit down. Once I loaded the app on my I Phone it started to work. Sometimes Chip gets close to the base but can't seem to find it. I just slide Chip in front of the base and Chip does the rest. By linking the ball and watch to the robot and the app on your smart phone, you will save a lot of time when the gift is opened. I made a small "cheat sheet" of the correct words to say for voice recognition and warnings to treat it gently. No rough play, dropping off tables or liquids is guaranteed to extend the life of the toy. Chip's kissing sensor and head stroking sensor do not always work. I'm sure the $ 3,000 Sony Robotic dog is better but that's a lot of money for little kids to risk breakage with. If you can show the child the basics of the voice recognition, and the watch controls, they can play with it right away. The help videos on wowwee.com/chip site are excellent and you should sit down with your child and watch them together. Watches and balls are sometimes more difficult to connect with the first time. For one ball I had to basically touch Chip's head with to change it from flashing blue to solid blue. Then the ball started working from a much further distance. I had a lot of fun testing and learning and expect sometimes things do not react perfectly. Getting it working well by learning it, is half the fun ! If you don't have time and you want to give something "easy" for your child to have fun with , find something else. This should be a great bonding experience between child and adult.granddad
missing the smartband that was suppose to be included. contacted the company that makes Chip and was told that they no longer make him so they don't have any but there are some available in their store and I could buy one. didn't really make much sense to me that I can buy one from them but they can't send one that should of been in the package? So an additional $30 on top of this expensive toy . Wishing I would of went online and read other reviews before wasting money on this toy. We received out playful pup on my daughters birthday last week. Fist thing we did was turn him on and he started playing right away I liked the fact that you didn’t have to do a bunch of set up to be able to play with it as soon as it was opens. We then named him “puppy” that was a simple process. My daughter played with him for a n hour or so before the battery died and we had to plug him in. I was surprised that she was able to play with him right away I had figured we would need to charge it before playing. The one down fall we have found is that it dosent pick up on our voices really well but it will pick up on my husbands so I’m assuming that my daughter and my voices are too soft to pick up and since it’s a kids toy not a dads toy that kinda sucks. Her favorite part so far is that is “pees” on the floor she laughed so hard at that. Even baby sister is getting in on playing with him, and we love giving him snuggles. Over all I think this is a really neat toy, I feel like it is a bit over priced for what it is but it is competitively price with other toys similar to it. We love o puppy!Boki
We were so excited when we learned we got chosen to get this toy for free! Once we received the toy (we got the puppy by the way) we charged him up for an hour just as it stated in the instruction booklet. When my daughter switched him on it was amazing and so life like. He sat when she told him to sit down, he would roll over on his back and she rubbed his tummy. Shortly after that he stopped moving and his eyes were still green. We kept trying to see what was wrong with him but by the look of it he needed to be charged, AGAIN. 20 minutes didn’t even pass yet and he stopped working. The same thing kept happening over and over again until she eventually got tired of it happening while she was trying to say the commands to him. I received the Zoomer Playful Pup free to review from Family Rated for my honest opinion. Words cannot described how excited my kids were when they received this. We recently moved to our new apartment a year ago in which our new apartment does not allow us to have pets. We use to have a 2yr old all white Labrador/Chihuahua mix. We had to give it away because of the no pet policy. So this Zoomer pup kind of looks like a Labrador/Chihuahua. When my kids received the Zoomer Play pup, it acts and responds just like a real puppy, they were beyond thrill. This is like us adopting a whole new puppy into our family. So we named it "Chibi" after our previous dog that we gave away. My daughter truly misses her old dog so this has brought a lot of comfort for her. She sleeps with Zoomer Playful pup every night like it's her real puppy. You can hear my kids giggle when Zoomer Playful pup is laying on his back kicking it's leg while you give it a belly rub. The playful pup can do many tricks but sometimes we have a little problem with the voice command, for example we will tell it to "Roll Over" it will do some other tricks "Let's Dance" or "Lie Down" instead. However, it is hilarious when Zoomer Playful pup can go potty. The only negative is we wish the playtime can be longer. It seems after 1 hour charge, playtime only lasts about 15-20min. Aside from that I would say this is the best Robotic dog ever, I highly recommend this to everyone! If I ever win the Lotto I would buy tons of these and donate to the Children's Hospital for kids that have special health problem or allergies that they can't have real puppies. The shipping box was too small for the inner box so it was bursting at the seams. Tape barely holding it together. Shipping was slow. The actual device packaging looked to be opened because the seal was broken. Cable inside package was not secure, flopping around inside. My niece did like this for her birthday present (glad her party was delayed). It did work fortunately.
