The kennels are made of a cheap plastic that cracked assumingely upon an impact during shipping. Pet mate is replacing unit, however the quality is not that of the unit I’ve had for 10+ years. Putting this together – I would say that the plastic is a good construction, the clasps and screws are great, and the metal bars for the windows look to be a decent quality. They ship you extra clips and screws in case you have a problem. I personally don't like the wheels (on any crate), so I'll leave those off and the pet bowl might be okay if I was sending the dog via airplane. The Large size isn't very large in my opinion. A dog should be able to stand up, turn around and lay down. I think this crate is more like a 50 pound max than 75. My 10 week old Golden Female Retriever will likely outgrow this kennel in 6 months and be in that weight range. In a way I'd like to exchange it for a bigger one.RichH

Although the carrier was more expensive with Hayneedle, I ordered 2 because they prominently advertised that it was the color Bleached Linen and everyone else was showing a two-tone tan and black. I have 2 in Linen already and wanted 2 more to match. The ones I received were tan and black. The carrier quality is fine and up to the standard of my 2 older ones, but these are not as advertised. Great kennel. Even better shipping, came to my house in 2 days after ordering. I wouldn't go off of the weight recommendation when purchasing this kennel for your dog- the XL says for dogs 50-70 lbs and my golden is 60 lbs however my golden although being within the weight limit was a tad bit too long for this size. I did take it back to my local Petco to exchange for a slightly larger size (size 40 inches in length) and the store's customer service was phenomenal in helping me with my exchange. Size your dog accordingly with a measuring tape when purchasing the proper kennel size- your dog should be able to sit inside, turn around, and lay down comfortably.Tanya Q

I needed a carrier for my grandsons' kitten. I also needed a place for her to sleep. I had looked (on-line) at several "pet," stores that had the same product. But they were 30 miles away, and you had to purchase in store! I purchased this one on-line with next day delivery. Even with tax, shipping, and handling it was CHEAPER than the same one, which was at a store 30 miles away. ONE WORD OF CAUTION. The back of the carrier snaps together. It has 2 tiny matching holes on the top and bottom. It would be great if they supplied a fastener. BUT IT CAN EASILY BE MADE STURDY AND SECURE FOR PET SAFETY – WITHOUT FEAR OF COMING APART. (Especially if the pet is rambunctious!) I used small zip ties – very inexpensive, that I already had. I trimmed the ends after putting them on the back sides. The door in the front is secured at top – 2 and bottom – 2. Plus you can open it from either right side or left. It has plenty of openings at the top of the carrier for air to circulate. I definitely would recommend this product. "Alice," the kitten loves it. I leave the door open, and she goes in there during the day and sleeps on her towel. It's light weight, attractive, easy to carry, easy to assemble, and definitely easy to clean. Even with the lack of the 2 back fasteners, I still give it 5 stars. Great sturdy carrier,bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside. Sturdily made plastic. I use it to carry for my 9 lbs cat and it can support his weight very well ,even though it could have had a luggage style handle for more comfort holding it than the recessed one it has but no biggie. Also even thought it is sturdy and pieces fit well together I would recommend you tie up some zipper cable ties on key areas where the two halves meet and close to where the gray little pieces go, to avoid the unions popping open and falling apart,just in case it stresses from the weight of the pet, that should give more reinforcement to the structure and peace of mind, not that it will happen but it could as other customers have stated. The carrier is not really that tall and long so my cat cannot stand full height or stretch full length, it is comfortable enough for him to be in on short trips or for a shorter cat (mine is very long and tall,almost 19 inches long head to base of tail).. The door is a little tricky to use since it doesn't have a hinge but you will get the hang of it, and if you just open it from one of the top knobs and leave the other closed it can even be used as a swinging door. This kennel is strong. The tie-down holes, one per corner, go through both the top half and the bottom half of the kennel, which is an excellent improvement over no tie down holes. Another improvement over the old version is that water cannot collect on top since there are no bowl-like indentations on the top. The door is heavy construction, and can be mounted as Left or Right swing. I put the kennel on the passenger's side of the vehicle so that I can use the empty space behind the driver for carrying a jug of water, leashes, and other stuff. The advertised length is 40", but be aware that the usable length or "inside" length is 33". This is adequate if your dog is 33" or less from the top of the tail to the end of his front nails, while lying in the "sphinx" position. ONE CON: There are no drainage holes in the bottom half. I plan to drill my own (well, get the hubby to do it). A suggestion for the manufacturer: Make a Truck Version of the kennel. It would be the same as this except for two changes: (1) Add drain holes, and (2) Make the top rear panel (opposite the door) from transparent acrylic, so the driver can see through it. It is utilized in our camper for our 90 pound chocolate lab. She fits well enough to lay down and it was not wrecked the first few uses, but she is crate trained. I do however believe the bottom material could've used some more reinforcement as a dog that size wont take much to make an accidental rip. This crate tucks in nicely by the bed. I had to twist the crate to get it to fit, but since it is soft sided, it was easy to do. I have 2 long haired miniature dachshunds, and they both have plenty of room and are really happy to have their blankets and sleeping space. The crate is well made and is perfect for my needs. I looked at a number of options and could not find another crate as narrow as this one. The metal door is easy to close and I was able to flip it so the door opened the direction I needed. The only negative is with the limited space, the opening radius of the door is fairly limited. Both my dogs can easily fit, but depending on the space in your unit, a larger dog might have troubles fitting through the door. I moved all the way from Northern California to DC in the car with my two cats (one 9 lb. domestic shorthair and one 18 lb. ragdoll), and this crate was perfect! They had enough room to move around while also being comfortable, it helped a lot with my anxiety that I could buckle the crate to the seats, and it was super easy to set up. I would recommend putting puppy pads under it so that your back seats don't get gross, and you need some other plan to get kitties in and out of the car because it's not a solid base (you certainly can't carry a kitty in the crate outside the car), but it worked great and was the perfect solution.ZorraTheo

They are roomy enough to hold a small litter box, food and water dishes, plus let the cat stretch its legs. I can also put both my cats together in one for traveling in the backseat of my car. The kennels fold up to the size of a large briefcase. It is a little tricky to fold them up but not a dealbreaker. The harness is easily adjustable and will expand as my puppies grow. They are eager to go for a ride and await for the harness to go on. They are secured but I wish there were 2 straps to buckle into the seat belts instead of one. I cannot shorten the XL enough to keep the shepherd from reaching the windows in the truck which she will scratch on when we are stopped. I have one of these in the beige color that works great but had to order a second one when I got a second cat amd the screws did not tighten correctly with assembly of the new carrier. The screws are loose and just spin in the hole. As an expirement I disassemled the one i already had that worked properly and tried to reassembke that one with the screws and plastic toppers provided on my new one and figured out it was the plastic toppers that were faulty. The plastic toppers in my newest one did not screw down all the way properly and did not fit the screw properly. Major quality control issues with this company it seems. Very disappointingNathanC
I needed a carrier and saw this online. There were 2 left. I went in to get one. None of the carriers of any size were boxed. I only saw one and looked it over with the size of carrier I wanted in mind. It seemed to be the right size, so I took it to the cashier. On the way home, I saw a black plastic patch on the hood hanging open. I tried to close it, heard a crack and discovered one of the tabs on the patch had completely broken off. On closer inspection at home, I discovered that there were supposed to be 2 plastic patches on the hood with 3 tabs each. Under these, the hood is indented as though these are places for storage or something. So, now I have a broken patch in one spot and no patch at all in the other spot on the hood. The kennel itself was easy to assemble, seems sturdy enough, and is the size I wanted, so I think I will keep the kennel, but I wish manufacturers wouldn't add bells and whistles to their products if the bells and whistles are only going to break and fall off. I loved the idea of this crate when I saw its description and I wasn't disappointed. When you get a small pet carrier, you generally have to figure out where to store it. They usually take up about a 1' x 1' x 1.5' space somewhere. This crate collapses to about a 1' x 1' x 5" size. It's really easy to "pop" it up and collapse it (really – I didn't even look at the instructions. It was pretty self-explanatory). There are two large, plastic clips at the front and at the back of the carrier. You just easily pinch those together (they don't require a lot of effort and are easy on the fingers), the sides lift to reveal the top of the carrier with its handle. You lift the handle and when it's all "up", you just push the ends to securely snap them to the "body" of the carrier and you're done. The gate has a knob rather than thick wires you have to pinch together. This is a sturdy crate. I have a 9-pound cat that it handles just fine. She can stand up in it with a little room to reposition herself. It's definitely not a crate I'd want to keep a dog of the same size in all day (I think they need a little more room to move around) but it's super for vet visits or car trips.ruthjs2k

This is a handy and nicely made crate. This size small is the perfect size for our Chihuahua mix, or our silky terrier, or even our cat to lay in. A taller dog might not fit in very well though because the opening isn't very tall. We could easily fit a dog bed in there. All the pets were happy to check it out and seemed to be very content to lay inside the crate. I love how easy it is to fold and unfold so it really takes up hardly any space for storage or travel. This doesn't have rigid sides or a handle on top so it's not meant to be a pet carrier, but it's ideal for crate training. The locking mechanism is easy to use and secure.Dollymolly1
I bought this carrier for a kitten that I will be picking up tomorrow. I unpacked it today and found it a bit odd that there is no handle. You can see the carrier until you completely unpackage it. There is nothing on the outside of the carrier that says whether or not there is a handle. There was not a handle shown on the packaging. The carrier will be okay while she is a small kitten. I'm not so sure about when she gets bigger. It is also a soft-sided carrier which means you really can't tuck it under your arm.skayfox

Upon bringing him home it literally fell apart and he got loose outside and had to be chased down. Two years ago we purchased this carrier for transporting our cats. After only a year the top split. The handle was useless. Another option was to use the shoulder harness. The rings broke through the plastic. A 16 pound cat could not possibly be the reason this product failed. I give this product a rating of zero. I honestly think it was a huge waste of money, simply because the design was flawed.
