I have bought many of these over the years, always decent. The latest one keeps slipping and won't stay at the size I set. There must be some QC issue as the others always worked. It just comes loose as she runs and plays, even though I've heated the end to keep from fraying and use the clip to hold the excess collar. It has slipped enough that I'm worried my dog will lose it, so I will have to rig something like a wire-tie or clip of some kind to keep it from getting loose. Disappointing, as all the others I've bought from you were fine and you are the only ones that sell the 1 inch wide collars. We have two of these callers, one for our dog and one for our son's dog (our son is deploying this month and she is with us for the length of his deployment). The dogs love to play together and occasionally get rough with each other. We have replaced our dog's collar twice in six months because the plastic buckle cannot stand up to two dogs playing. Please consider a different kind of buckle for this strap. Something along the lines of a belt buckle would be preferable to a plastic buckle which continually breaks.

We installed the in ground wire around the perimeter of our property. I have one dog that digs under our fence and one that climbs the fence. These collars keep our dogs away from the fence and keeps them from running out into the street. We have had our fence for 5 years now and only replaced the collars once because I misplaced them. I have a lab / hound mix that is 11 years old and she weighs about 85lbs. We began usin this collar since April 2017 and within 3 months, one of the prongs broke off. We contacted petsafe and were told that this is an uncommon problem and that the only way this could happen is due to "rough play, hitting it against an object, over-tightening the probes, etc." I have a hard time believing our senior aged dog plays rough enough to break the prongs of a durably made product. If you have a larger / sporting breed dog, i would steer clear of this product and go with Invisible Fence or the SportDOG brand from another retailer. They seem to cater to larger / sporting breeds. We've had our fence under a year, no problems with the actual fence. We have 2 dogs on the fence, 1 is an English Mastiff and the other is a Cocker Spaniel. The Cocker Spaniel's clip/closure cracked and broke off so we had to go out and search almost an acre of property to find it. We did find it but it is a PAIN to have to go out and search for a collar that you would not expect to break. Recently our English Mastiff has been strolling off the property, she has never done that in the almost year we have had it. First think I did was check the battery and decided to be safe we would change it!! That didn't work so I decided to take off the collar and check it to make sure it worked and it does but there are certain times when it don't. I have it on the highest frequency and I'm hoping this works, I will keep you informed. But us like others are missing the clear caps that cover the button to change the frequency. I don't understand how these pieces can come off unless we take them off, this tells me that there is a malfunction in your manufacturing if we are not the only ones missing these caps!! Then to top it off, you sell these clear caps and expect us to pay for them, something doesn't seem right. If you know these clear caps come off, shouldn't you be trying to fix this issue and offer those caps or free? Rich T

I have been using PetSafe for at least 15 years. I wired a half acre lot and I just open the door and out my 2 dogs go and I know they are safe. We live in the middle of Dallas. I really like how it has worked over the years except….. Using the 16 ga. wire supplied, I used to get failure in the system. The receiver box would be beeping and not working. I would have to rewire sections of the wire for it to again work properly. This happened 5 or 6 times until I rewired the whole yard perimeter with 14 ga. wire. The system has never gone down since I did this 6 or 7 years ago. I give this a 5 star rating using 14 ga. wire.Lake
This collar works well with our older Instant Fence unit. We purchased it for our small (9lb) 9 month old pup. It fits her well, and is not to big for her. There is plenty of adjustment in the collar for different sized dogs. The battery life is excellent and she has responded well to wearing it in our yard. I only wish that it had an additional mode for a vibration alert as well as sound. It would also be nice to have a louder sound for us people. When training a small dog I had to bend over to try and hear the alert as we approached the boundary. But in the end, as long as the dog hears the sound, that's all that matters. I was looking at differing fence less systems for containing my two Bichons. The Petsafe system worked really well and was so much less expensive than the inground invisible fence systems. But I wondered how long the batteries would last. Well, that worked out great! After the first set lasted two month during an intense time of the dogs trying them, now they are lasting 3-4 months! Collar as a whole works. The shock is effective and adjustable to fit many needs. My 2 gripes are that the audible tone warning is so quiet that my dogs don't seem to notice it. Second, is that as soon as you hear the tone, it starts shocking. I wish there was a 10 foot or more buffer, but that doesn't seem to be the case. They need the option of a thick collar with solid clasps because while the shock part is great, the collar is a frustrating joke. I bought this collar about a month ago. I was worried that it wouldn't fit my dog because she weighs about 125 lbs and has an incredibly thick neck. I have been using Petsafe In-ground / above ground Pet Barrier since 2012…and have used the same collars. This is my first replacement in 8 years & collar still works but the stretch on the collar is shot. The system works great unless you have an extremely stubborn cat or dog. I have same controller & perimeter wire. I have installed the perimeter wire at the top of my 10 ft cement block stuccoed wall so the cats can go into the bushes along the wall for shade & protection. It seems like its expensive at first, but it really does the job of keeping my cats in the backyard. Well worth the money. I would buy it again. Buy 3rd party batteries on ebay much cheaper. This collar seems exactly what I am looking for. The nylon strap seems a little bit thin, but I think when it wears out, I can take the receivers off and add a collar of my choice or order a new one. My little 5.5 lbs dog looks comfy in this collar and it is a snap to put on. Hopefully his brother buddy who is 9 lbs. will not break the buckle when he tackles him as it is a thin plastic snap-on buckle. But his long fur does not get caught in it when I put it on like the rubberized Little Dog collars. I can not comment on the battery life as I haven't had these collars very long. I have been turning them off when I remove them in the evening. There is a flashing light that countinuously flashes, wearing the battery down. Since my dogs are rough with each other, I'm not sure how they will do with these new receivers/collars. I thank the company for suggesting I try these collars for my small dogs. I don't think I would have considered these as they are listed for cats. And they work well with my PetSafe system except for the boundry is different for these receivers as compared to the "big" dog receiver. What I mean is that the "big" dog has a larger warning and correction zone and the little dogs are almost ontop of the in-ground wire before they hear the warning tone/correction. So the flags are not a good reference for them, however we always walk inside the flags to still give them a visual clue where it will be "safe" for them. We started training on level one. Then worked up to level two with not much of a reaction (a head shake). On level three, my dogs got more of a correction, but always "come on back." My son came home from school, jumped off the bus and one of the little dogs ran eagerly to greet him. The receiver must have increased the correction as he proceded into the zone but he quicly turned back into the yard. I think these collars will be a nice solution to having three tie out leashes getting tangled around everything.ForeverFriend

We had the system in place for a year or so. We have a stubborn doberman who goes nuts in storms and wants to be by our side rather than stay outside during the day. We set this up to deter the animal from scratching the door etc. At first it worked fine but the dog needed to keep the device collar on all the time or she would know it is not on, test the boundary and start scratching again. Too smart. Then then collar seemed to stop working consistently, replaced the batteries, all seemed fine. then we noticed we needed to replace the batteries far more frequently. then nothing worked. during this time period, the dogs play and run and the collars get trashed. The flimsy plastic collar feed through broke on all the collars, so resorted to duct tape. Eventually it was a mess because the collars stopped working all together. The contacts failed, etc. A more durable collar and more reliable electronics would be a welcome addition to this product…or a less stubborn dog. We ordered the pet safe barriers to give our cats safe zones in our home. The zones work like a charm, however the quality of the collar itself is sub-par. The plastic structure holding the receiver to the collar broke within 2-3 months of owning it. We bought a second one and the same issue happened. the plastic structure was broken within a few months use. We have now hot glued and duct taped the receiver back on 2 times and seem to be able to still get use out of it. However we purchased an outdoor zone and it came with another collar which we were very happy about because we have guest dogs at our home frequently. This 3rd collar simply stopped working. We've done all the logical trouble-shooting and it just seems to be a dud. At $40 a pop, this is a pretty serious investment. I'm feeling victim to my investment as I own 3 barriers at this point less than 1 year in and have barely gotten a return on the investment I've already made. Can not recommend this product. Would advise my friends and family to steer clear and choose another brand. 30 day guarantee doesn't cut it.

The class on this collar is awful. I had to reorder one in a matter of three days. Customer service told me it must have been chewed on (which it wasn’t) and said as a contest they’d send me a new one. I waited two weeks and never received it. Called again and had one sent. I have bought the trainer device for my deaf pup. I also purchased the bark collar for him. He is a mid sized dog. The clasp has broken on the trainer collar. I have to use rubber bands around the collar to keep it from losing up. There has to be a better way to a adjustable collar. Especially when you have a growing dog.Nett

It is simple and easy to get started. Distance is accurate. If puppy/ dog has thick fur definitely have to unlock static levels. Vibrate only one level no to slight response viewd with our dog thick fur. Battery life not best, no off switch for remote, and you can only do 2 choices quickly (tone and vibrate or tone and static) only negatives. I bought the 300 yard lite about 2 months ago for my 1 yr old Springer spaniel who is a little shy and very sensitive to corrections yet loves to bark at the neighbors. He usually stays in yard but does wander to neighbors on occasion to bark at them. Underground fencing not a good option for me so I tried this device. Wow it’s amazing! I trained him on our boundaries and recall with lots of praise and have only had to use the tone and vibration modes. The barking and preoccupation with neighbors has decreased substantially. We have had this PetSafe 300 for a couple of years now. It most definitely works in the 300 yard area. It is also very tough! It has survived several playful Corgis, and is now on a very rambunctious German Shepard. We really like the many selections you have with this trainer, from low to high. The hand held remote battery seems to last forever between charges, but the collar not so long. We seem to only get two days worth out of a charge at the most, which is why I can't give it a full 5 star rating. I would give it 4.5 starts if that was possible. Overall we would definitely buy again. We are looking to get another collar so the other can charge while one is on the rambunctiously large German Shepard puppy. I say puppy.. She's like 75lbs!!! I called the company to complain about the fit the replacement had a 1/4in gap at least and they admitted there was a small gap from the original door and the replacement for our door frame. The frame is not that old either and in Florida that gap is enough for waste of air conditioning and to allow mosquitoes in which is a very bad problem. I will seek to return this replacement flap you would do better to make one yourself research on utube. We are seeking to replace the entire door and frame to a different brand that may have replacement doors available for years to come. Petsafe was not helpful at all and offered a discount on an entire new dog door to replace the original entire door and frame I was shocked — and a supervisor never called me back. I told them if they didn't support this product why would I invest in another product of theirs. I would not buy from the company again. The original quality was good. This collar works great. It took about 10 mins for for two mini aussies to figure out bark and spray. Its been a year and the battery still works. Now, i just put the collar on, and don't even turn on the device, and i get the same results, no barking from the dogs. My question is, do you turn the device off? I got this collar for my 130 lb Anatolian. While it works beautifully for while I'm not at home the battery has only lasted a week. No I don't have it on him all the time and I shut it off when it's not on him. I now have to drive 30 miles to my nearest store to get replacement batteries. Big hassle. We have a Goldendoodle dog and we bought this system when we adopted almost two years ago. We purchased this system because it was recommended to us and I wish I would have done more research. Our Goldendoodle dog's collar cracked in half about a month ago. My husband and I are extremely furstated becase there are no other collars that are compatible with this system. A replacement collar will be around $150, which is also more expensive than competitors replacement collars. What really infuriates me is reading other costumers reviews and realizing, I will need to buy several other replacements throughout the course of my dog's life because he is still farely young. My husband and I are serisouly considering getting rid of our entire PetSafe system and install a new system because factoring in the projected cost of replacement collars that we will mostly likely go through is A LOT MORE than the cost of an entire new system and to have the new system professional instally. I understand there is a one year warranty, but from the reviews I am reading, along with my own experience, the collars conveniently break/crack after the year is up. I am very disappointed and upset because until we are able to get our dog a new collar, or new system he is the one who suffers. We LOVE our dog, we live on a large piece of land, which he loves to roam. Unfortnately, we can not let him roam because without his collar he roams out of our property. My husband and I are scared he will roam out onto the main roadway that is close to our property. I've had this fence for around 2 1/2 years. Works awesome. But the collars are awful. The strap goes around the electronics, so anything that pulls on the collar breaks off the plastic tabs and then done, another $150, just as others here have stated. I don't care about a 1-year warranty. For this kind of money, it should be 5 years! Also feel that after ALL these reviews and still no design change, I wonder what the real PetSafe motive is here, to get us to keep buying collars? Since I upgraded to the thickest wire possible, now looking at other systems that can use the same wire but have better collars, as I've already spent more on collars than I did on the whole original fence. We've used these for years. Plan on replacing once a year. The seals often fail and they get wet inside from rain. Make sure you take them off at night or your dogs neck will get hot spots. The standard 9v battery is easily replaceable and economical, but it makes the box very large. If you have chewers, they will tear the boxes off of each others collars.rbeachylife

I have owned this system for a yr and run 3 collars on it. At first it worked great 4 months in a collar stopped working it would show red light like charging but would never come on so i purchased another one 130 bucks (wow) with in weeks same thing to my other one called tech support this time they walked me theough how to turn it on (at this point i laughed at the begining of the call i stated i have had the system a year) they told me it must be broke and buy a new one. Well broke to me is nothing working but i have red light on charging and stays red for hours 8 to be exact on both of them so this is trash and do not expect help from tech support. I'm very grateful and very happy about this, since it is a very nice collar and easy to use. Here's hoping the failure of the first one was a fluke! I probably will ultimately get another one for one of the other dogs (we have 3!) once we use up all of the batteries we have. While I'm only giving three stars for the collar due to the short lifespan, I would definitely rate service at 5 stars!DigitMom
