These collars work great with a little bit of time and training. After a year of use, with supervision, I can now take my dogs (Basenji & G.Shep) outside on our 3 acres without the collars because they have now learned the boundaries. My favorite feature of these collars is the nightlight and the beep function. The nightlight is perfect for going out at night and keeping my eyes on where each dog is located. The beep function is fantastic, my dogs have learned the beep means to turn around and come back. During training I used the shock function (level 8 & I did test the level of intensity on my own leg) only a handful of times when absolutely necessary and it's never used now. Both dogs now respond to the beep and if they're chasing a deer they'll stop to the vibrate function. The two CONS I have with these collars are the rubber covers for the progs come off so easily when the dogs are wrestling and get lost constantly. The other con is that I've had the collars close to a year now and the rechargeable batteries within the device are dying. The collars are on charge constantly now so that they are charged up for when they are needed. The collar dies within about 8 hours before it needs a charge even if it's turned off. Whereas when I first got them the charge lasted about a week. This is after treating them correctly, turning off when not in use and only charging when needed.Elizabeth R.

When you switch from shock to vibrate, the first click is to switch over, then the second click actually vibrates the collar (& vice versa). When switching over to the other channel, you have to follow the same procedure. Which is fine for normal circumstances. But, when it’s an emergent situation, that extra time it takes to shock/ vibrate the other collar can make a huge difference & lead to a struggle in a stressful situation.Erin

I had borrowed the same collar from my daughter for about a month, but she needed it back, so for the past two months he had begun to get a little independent in the woods. As soon as I put the new Arc collar around his neck, he was a changed dog. Even without paging him, he began to hunt about 75 yards out and would return to check on me every few minutes. Whenever he gets out of sight, and seems to wander too long, I simply "page" him about three seconds and he comes running. Only twice in the past week have I had to stimulate him, somewhere between level 6 and 11. Then for a day or two after that, only the pager button is needed to turn him around. Not so heavy I'm worried about the added weight being a burden, not so light I'm worried about it not holding up. The stitching is even and secure. The colors are vibrant. I was skeptical on this at first and was worried that my dog might pull and break the clasp, but I really wanted something that was more adjustable than a typical buckle collar can provide. Our 95 lb, 8 month old female Cane Corso is a COMPLETELY different pup with this collar on. I don't really have to pull or tug at all because the pressure from her walking when she gets to the end of the leash when I stop walking she sits down. The cheap prong collar we got talked into from a local pet store during the puppt training class Zoey would still pull and try to scoot closer while sitting when she wantex to greet my wife or myself. With this collar she didn't try to pull or scoot towards either one of us at opposite ends of the hall. You can take the extra links out by hand by bending and using the leverage from the link that's staying on the collar, BUT needle nose plyers are needed to pinch the links closed back to factory specs. High quality stainless steel with blunt ridges on the INSIDE of the collar keep anyone from making comments about prong collars and the prong collars aren't rated near as high as these Neck Teck stainless collars. This one we got is rated for 150 lb dogs… She'll grow into it considering her dad was 150 lbs & her mom was 110 lbs, she above average size for her age. I can't say enough good things about this collar. HIGHLY recommed this to anyone who has issues with their dog pulling when on leash. Used this item with two dogs, both strays. One vets says was probably born in wild. Both been with us about 2 years now but both run free whenever they can. Used collars without the probes fitted. worked one morning with them, Tone not bad but vibrant works a treat. Now tone works well. Both dogs now stay within bounds. When my back is turned they get way but I can now get them back with tone only. Had it now just short of a week. Should have got it years ago.HappyTony

I love this collar and company! The collar itself is very durable and handles lots of play from my 70lb pit mix (she wears a Large but I adjust it down so it fits more snug). The different light modes are really nice, and we use it every day (especially handy in the winter when both morning and evening walks are in the dark!). Super easy to turn on & off, and to charge with the USB cord. It is NOT waterproof, but will tolerate rain and other water as long as it isn't submerged. When mine had an issue, I emailed the company and they sent a replacement within a week, free of charge. I can't recommend this collar enough!!Jessie Marie

I've had the FI collar for about 8 months now, and it has been a downward spiral for the last month now. Initially it started off great, it was reliable, and it delivered on its promises. However, now, it is unreliable, inconsistent, and not worth the cost.
If you want a product to rely on to keep track of your dogs, this is not the one for you. Here's a list of the issues that's developed in the last month with it that have gone with no resolution:
-Battery is advertised as lasting between 1 to 3 months; reality is, it lasts about 2 weeks at best, though now it's losing about 15-20% per DAY.
-Collar can't keep consistent connection to base or home wifi. When my dog is sitting at home, the collar constantly and randomly disconnects from both wifi and base station and sends me a false alert that he has left the house.
-It doesn't actually alert me when my dog leaves the network and goes on a walk. I've taken my dog out on a walk, then checked my app to see if it kept track, only to see it notes he left the home network and when he came back, no track of where he went in between.
-Took my dog on a day out at a dog park, FI collar didn't register we were there at all. Just noted the time I left the house and came back. No GPS info or connection to phone to indicate where we went or were, despite being out and about for a few hours.
-Battery life is increasingly diminished. Charged it to full 3 day ago, battery currently at 64%. Dog's been home mostly, minus short daily walks.
-Collar doesn't detect or connect to collar base. I'm sitting at home within range and the collar is connected to my phone via bluetooth, rather than at to collar base.
-Due to all these issues, went for the tried and true "restart" attempt. I deactivated the collar but when I went to reactivate it, it failed to do so. So now the collar is just a normal collar with zero tracking ability.
-Have had multiple back and forth with customer service, but all they do is ask me to do certain things so they can see what the diagnostic says, but nothing concrete or noticeable changes are being made.
Never has such a product gone from a high beginning to a burning, crashing end. Due to initial credit, I've been trying to get things fixed with customer service for the past few weeks to no avail. I really wanted this to work as the battery life is really attractive, but now it has become too unreliable and untrustworthy to depend on.

I've had my collar for 9 months. Love it.
Really like the activity & sleep tracking. Provides good insight into my dogs habits! tracking is good for the most part.
Areas for improvements: battery life and range. I have 5 acres total, with 2.5 my dog can roam freely. Initally after purchasing the collar, my dog would go out of wifi/base range every couple hours, which put it in GPS mode and drained battery very fast.
I ended up buying 3 more base stations and spreading them out around my property,which solved the issue. Now the collar gets about 2 months charge.
The base stations are $40 a piece, so if you have a large house or property and don't want to spend more to keep collar from dying every couple days, this might not be the right solution for you.
Subscription model: You can add multiple collars/dogs to one account, however if you want to track a new dog Fi makes you pay for a second subscription. It would be nice if one subscription would cover all collars on one account.Z W

In the meantime, the home base has lost connection to the collar and the network, meaning that the location tracker has not been working, it doesn’t even register that it’s at home. The step counter has not been active either.
When notifying the tech support of these new issues I was pushed to just buy a new module/collar (since I’m past the 1 year warranty) instead of being helped to possibly troubleshoot any issues.
I joined their Facebook group to see if I can find assistance or help from someone else who has gone through the same issue to see if it can be resolved, but in order for you to join the group you have to say that you won’t post anything negative about the collar or try to discourage anyone else from buying it.
