More fiddly to undo than the previous version. Particularly difficult when the dog is rubbing his face trying to get it off after a walk. It fastens with a plastic snap buckle now. You have to slide a little tab to release it. However this tab isn't obvious that you have to slide it. Front strap is attached via a plastic sliding holder. Easier to manage than forcing the end of a clip through the hole in the strap as before. Other than the updates the muzzle is the same material etc. He managed to get the old one off during the rain & I couldn't find it, so had to buy a new one I would like to see the loop for the collar made bigger, as my dog's collar is a tight squeeze to thread through. I did notice they come in brown, blue, pink & black now. I do think it's better not to only have black available. I'm guessing the baby blue & pink ones look a lot softer on the face. At this price they only had black so I stuck with it. His snout is black so it doesn't look too bad. This style is longer than the original Baskerville. I use these Baskerville Ultra muzzles for my family dog training business for the dogs that may bite. You may have to take some yarn and wrap it around the parts of the muzzle usually on the dog's nose that might otherwise get rubbed. All in all, it's a pretty good muzzle. It is possible for a dog to still bite while wearing this muzzle, but you also need to have some leash handling skills to prevent this. You also need to size your muzzle correctly…they should be able to open their mouth as wide as necessary to pant while wearing one of these. This is a very nicely made unobtrusive muzzle for my female Dober. Her snout circumference goes from 8.5" above the canines to 10" at the widest point. Snout length is 4.5". This fits VERY well. She has room enough to open her mouth slightly to drink but not enough to nip when frightened. I use a muzzle for only a few minutes while she learns that a new behavior (picking her up, examining her paws) does no harm. This is my first muzzle. Like others say, just putting a muzzle on and calmly talking to the dog seems to stop fear aggression in it's tracks. Theres are mixed reviews on muzzles. Looks like some big dogs can tear the materials on different brands. This xxs or size0 works perfectly on my puppy yorkie. Cant pull it off and keeps him from biting the older Yorkie with one bad leg causing him to not be able to walk while recuperating. It's a nice muzzle. I wish the length of the muzzle was listed in the description. This muzzle seems to be sized new towards dogs with longer snouts like Belgian malinois, german shepherds, greyhounds, etc. I ordered the small but got the large. But it ended up working out better. I would say do not go by the weights listed, look at the description. I asked to if I could return the muzzle and I got the answer of yes, but I was busy and forgot to ship the muzzle back. So we kept the muzzle, it's not too big but would be best if it was a little shorter. The muzzle is very well built, very nice biothane. I do plan to do more shopping with this business. Purchased hot pink in medium for a 55lb APBT who is reactive with a high prey drive. Fits perfectly on the second hole, is a little too long for her snout, but the width is spot on. Good for short training sessions and first introductions to other dogs until her energy calms down and can interact without it after a few minutes. She is a Houdini dog though and can get it off if she really tries. May do what another reviewer did and cut off chin strap and have a loop for the collar instead because she hates that part the most. Overall great product!Savannah
The muzzle arrived extremely quickly (purple!). It's so very well made, sturdy, and I love the foam padding over the nose part. My Old English Sheepdog/Briard mix has nipped my brother a couple of times when he's visiting, so gets banished to the bedroom for the duration. This muzzle works well. It's easy to put on the horse, I loosely fasten the velcro strap that goes over the poll so it slides over the ears and then tighten it afterwards. I hold the muzzle basket in one hand with the strap that goes over the ears dangling forward, then I place the nose and mouth in the basket and raise the strap over the poll and then tighten the velcro. Then I make sure no straps are twisted and everything is comfortable. It's very easy to do. I bought oversize for my two horses, who both have large heads. They are 16-3 hds and 1300-1500 pounds, and whenever I buy halters or bridles they are inbetween regular size and draft horse size, so I bought the oversize muzzles. The muzzle-basket doesn't rub them and appears to be a good fit. The halter or headstall portion of the muzzle is slightly large on them, I fastened the velcro areas and buckles as tightly as possible, except the jowl strap. There's a strap behind the chin area that is too long and it's on the shortest setting, it holds the basket onto the jowl strap, and I wish I could make it shorter. The horses needed time to adjust to the idea of a muzzle, and how to use it. I taught them by pulling some grass and sticking it in the hole so they understood. My draft-X adjusted quickly to wearing it, but he got it off once so I tightened the jowl velcro piece and it hasn't came off since. The other horse took a week, she resisted to putting it on but she's fine now. At first she rubbed it on the fence and a strap had to be reattached with needle and thread – a quick and easy repair for me – and she also loosened the velcro strap but these muzzles have strong velcro that's held together with a front and back portion – like a sandwich – so it's double-protected to keep the muzzle on. After I take off the muzzles, I rinse just the basket to keep it clean and hang them to dry for the next day.BJ1L
I am very pleased with this grazing muzzle. It has easy on and off velcro options, it has supporting chin strap and front straps to hold it in place as well as the cushioned bit on top and chin. It looses a point from me though as I feel that more area's need to be cushioned. with just 3 weeks wear my pony has areas rubbed raw. She also managed to get it off a few times. As she really really needs to wear it I wished there would be more options. Nevertheless, still one of the best I have come across.Susanne
They are a real pain to keep adjusted properly, the velcro closure is not great, should have a snap throat latch to make it easier put on and take off. 2 out of the 3 horses have rubbed sores on their lower muzzle area. Needs to have some type of soft shearling lining. I wouldn't recommend this considering they are expensive for the inferior design, I think buying muzzles the attach to a regular break away halter would work much much better and way more cost efficient.Alison
