My primary concern was that our home would no longer be lockable, but we were able to secure the door and device adequately. The biggest negative is that, although the dog is small on weights only 25 lbs. (well shy of the weight limit advertised), it is a tight squeeze for him to get through. We are glad we got it. Have had this door for 3 years and it's still going strong. was easy to install, but I have to replace the seal strip every year or so. Big enough door for my husky, but not too high for my miniature collie to get through. I have only encountered one problem, the flap is a bit on the loud side. First off, I bought the medium sized door (11×8), which is claimed to be for medium pets weighing up to 35 pounds. There would be no way a pet weighing that much could fit through the door. This size door is more for small pets (cats, which I have that weigh 10 to 15 pounds). So I made the right choice by going bigger. It's the perfect size for them, and they get through the door comfortably. A small door would have been a tight squeeze. I installed this pet door against the patio door that doesn't slide. That was the only way that made sense, and would also provide some form of security. Installing this against the sliding door would not work, would not seal, and would not lock. Buy yourself some extra weather stripping (the soft stuff). The hard weather stripping provided with this door is useless. Be prepared to improvise and buy extra hardware to actually make this door fit securely and work with the patio doors. My extra expenses were $35. All in all, I'd recommend the door, but be prepared to do a fair amount of work to make it fit securely. But still this is not buglar proof. It will be an easy access point for someone to break into your home. I don't see how this, or any pet door, could be made completely secure.Mensa8

Window cat door arrived in tact and was very easy to install. Fits snuggly onto window sash using foam strip underneath to block any drafts or openings. The only reason this is not getting 5 stars is that the weather stripping to be used on top of the insert was not wide enough to block the gap between the upper and opened lower window. We ended up using a piece of pipe insulation to block the gap. A section of styrofoam pool noodle is also useable. We also cut a piece of PVC pipe to insert in the window track to keep the lower window from being able to be lifted up as a security measure. It took a little while for our cat to adjust to using the door. Prior to that we had inserted a piece of cardboard with a door size hole in it to see if our cat would use the opening to go from the house to the screened porch and if the regular cat door size would be large enough for him. He used this easily so we ordered the window. We used treats and showed him how to push the door open. He was hesitant to push the door open with his head so we would hold it open for him to go through, lessening how much we would open it every day. He took to using the door unaided to enter the house in 2 days. However he remained hesitant to use it to go out without assistance. Using pieces of tuna as enticement and continuing to partially open the door for him he slowly decided he could use it to go out after a little over a week and after 2 weeks has no problems using the door in either direction.Nancy B
This is without a doubt the best option I could have hoped for my pets needs. First off I have a 50lb Siberian Husky. My dog has to go outside to use the restroom every 2 hours for medical reasons, and I wasn't able to install a dog door at my current residence. After countless attempts to implement something similar, I finally found this dog door/window. I was extremely impressed when I first got it and had no complaints, but recently it really proved its quality. This is my second cat door. I've had a different style on my sliding patio door for several years and all my cats use it. The problem with that one is that it makes the open doorway very narrow for us non-cats. When I saw this I thought it would be better because I hardly ever open the bedroom windows and this room has three windows so I still have two that I can use. From opening the box to having it completely installed took less than 20 minutes. The instructions are simple: raise sash, remove screen, place cat door, release side spring screws, lower sash. Another minute or two to apply the weather seals over the cat door and at the top of the sash. The installation is solid, with no gaps and no rattles. My cats were using it with complete confidence the same afternoon. I have low window sills inside that the cats were already using as perches. I just put a few cinder blocks on the outside of the house for them to have steps down to the grass. After reading all of the reviews, the VERY common problem is the hinge. This is going to be my 3rd or 4th door and second to purchase (the sizable hole is hard to find a replacement for), most EVERYONE has had the exact same broken and weak point of the hinge. Some of these comments are from long enough ago, you would think that the company would look at the common problems and try and fix the issue. I've had this door for a year now, and after a year of modifying, and remodifying, I give. Simply not a great door for strong dogs. Our doberman broke the door out initially, it was put back in place. The 2nd time he broke it out some of the plastic fasteners broke off. My SO ended up modifying the door with an aluminum strip and all new hardware. It's been broken off several times even with the new modifications. The key backs fall off and we didn't end up using them anyways to begin with. The frame is solid, we got the wall kit which is flimsy and had to seal ourselves but nonetheless it's installed. I'd love to order another model that will fit the already permanent opening. As of current, our heat's turned off until we figure out what to do to fix the door. Purchased the door about a month ago. We have 4 dogs ranging in size from 6.5 lb to 60 lb. All of them use the door even the little guy. The big dog did not need any training at all he instinctively new when it went click he could go! I was concerned about the reviews but it seemed to me that these were all very large dogs by height and the photos of the installs seemed low to me. I would recommend the product. No more getting up two or three times a night. YAAA I installed it myself, granted I am more of a handyman than most, but I am also over the 65 mark +. So I would expect the young bucks to do it even faster. But you do need to have a supply of the D cells. Batteries are not what they used to be and you only get about a month or a little less use. We had been looking for an alternative to cutting a hole in our wall and this is perfect. It installs easily into our track and the weatherstripping worked great to fill any gaps. Only downside is it takes up half your entry space to go in and out. Not a problem for us but if you have large individuals that need to go in and out it could be a problem. We had a door at our other house so it only took a couple days for our dogs to get use to the sound of the flap on this one. I have purchased two of these dog doors now. The first was the sash window door which was awesome. At the time I was living in Wyoming which has tremendous winds. Other doors wouldn't stay closed in the wind but the Endura Flap prevailed! Now I've moved to Alaska and didn't have a window that would work as a dog door so I bought the sliding glass door model. Just like it's window option, this dog door is top notch. I was using some other brand of sliding door dog door and it was letting so much cold air into the lower level of my house that I avoided going down there, which was annoying since half of the house is down there. Now that the Endura Flap door is in, there's a little cold air leaking in behind the sliding door, but it is LEAGUES better than it was. We looked at a lot of doors before we decided on the Endura flap thermo door. It was more expensive that the others, but in my opinion it is well worth it. Installation was easy, although our door was not plum so it took some time to adjust it.(not the doors fault) First night we realize a lot of cold air was seeping thru the back panel of the slider, we tried to put the weather striping on but it did not work very well. I give that a 2. We took black packing foam and cut into strips to wedge between the door and the glass worked very well and does not look to bad, also put some around the doggie door where the space was from not being level. TRAINING was very easy…we took the magnets out of the bottom as the video showed. It took a some muscles and finesse the first time then was easy the next time. Took treats outside, some inside, and our 8 month old lab got it on the second try. Dew to cold and wind after a couple of days we put the magnets back in and she went thru very easily. Excellent opening size for our pet who is 18 lbs. I purchased the Medium opening. Our sliding door is a custom height of 12 FT, not a normal height, so using the extension included with the patio panel still doesn’t reach the top of the sliding door, which of course is not the problem of the manufacturer of this product. We remedied the problem by using and cutting to size a disposable hard foam cooler, fitted with a foam edge window and door sealer in order to eliminate cool and hot air from coming in and out. I'm glad I chose this Large door for my 25-27lb cockapoo. I originally tried the medium door and decided to change to the large due to him bumping his back if he ran thru the door too fast. The large door gives him extra space all around to move in and out as he pleases, but to be honest it doesn't seem like a whole heck of a lot more as I thought it would be. The pic had a golden retriever next to it, so I thought the large would be way too big, but it is not. We have an enclosed patio area so we don't get a breeze hitting the door flap at all, so the magnet is strong for us, once he runs in the flap securely magnetizes back in place. Learn from my mistake and run far away!!! This door was somewhat convenient when first installed, but I quickly found that the transmitter didn't always work, which left my dog inside or outside at times. However, with the first hard rain, this door became a disaster. The door flap leaked water all over my floor, both under the flap and down through the body of the dog door. I didn't discover the flooding until a large puddle had developed, warping and splintering my hardwood. I spent two hours on my knees mopping with towels and trying to seal things with duct tape as the rain continued to flood in under the flap opening. When I called the company, I was told that, since the door had been purchased over 90 days prior, that "the credit card company won't let us do a refund so we can't" (obvious untruth) and that the owner would only let me return it for store credit. They had no interest in finding out what the problem/defect was and trying to cure it or change it so as not to do this to other consumers. I'm was already out the cost of the purchase, hiring a contractor, and having it installed, and now I have to buy a new door and have it put in, as well as repairing my cupped, splintering flooring. Do they really think I'd want to have store credit to buy another one? This failed experiment has cost me well over $1000 so far. The door itself works great and at first all was good. Unfortunately the door only works with the collar which is junk and even after you buy their expensive batteries will not work because it is junk. Honestly the first time your dog gets the collar a little wet, for example running through sprinklers it will stop working. Do not buy.aaron.brown03

I installed the PetSafe Sliding Glass Pet Door, and it was easy, and fits perfectly. I have the large dog door, and it fits dogs up to 100lbs, is energy efficient and perfect if you ever plan on moving, or are renting. It doesn't do any damage to the sliding door, and is easy to move. It comes with weather stripping, and everything you need to install. The top of the door is spring loaded, push in the black buttons and the top lowers down to fit in the doorway. The flap has a magnet at the bottom to keep it sealed, and there is a panel that slides down to keep it shut in or out for safety at bedtime.It only took an electric drill and a screwdriver to install, and comes out easily if I need to remove it. This is perfect for my cats to go in and out all day, and much safer because I kept my sliding door open some all day for them. Up and down in the winter is no fun, it was too cold to leave the door open any. I recommend 100%, I have had no issues. I have more pictures of the door, but for some reason I couldn't add them, sorry. I think two pictures I was able to add, gives you an idea of how it works. As other reviewers have stated, you will need to fully attach/install this to the door frame for any security. I'm currently using it only for summer, so I take it in/out as needed. When it is in, there is no way to lock or secure your door (unless you do a full install). My pup is a trim 67 lbs and it's a tight fit for her but she has quickly learned that squeezing through means freedom in the backyard! Might be difficult for a chunky/larger dog. Despite the shortcomings, it is perfect as a temporary solution. I do not think it would be a good solution for extreme climates even as a permanent install because it is not a tight fit even with included the weather stripping .ElvisNBama
I bought this door bcz my Ideal brand is old and broke when it is 18 degrees! The Ideal Fast Fit brand just pops out of the box and pops right into the door, tighten and done. I am very handy, that's not the issue. The instructions make no sense and the load of crap you have to do before installing this door is beyond ridiculous and totally unnecessary! Took about four weeks from initial order to installation. First door delivered was put together incorrectly and therefore damaged in transit. Waited for replacement door order, it was also put together incorrectly (in same manner), but mostly undamaged, so I was able to reinstall window panes correctly. Door has some minor scratches and minor crunch at top of inside frame, but not too noticeable. Installation went well. Verified that my door frame is square, and frame mounts mounted squarely, but door still hangs a bit on its hinges, showing larger gap at bottom. Left-hinge install instructions still has references to right-hinge details. Actual door frame was within width range of product as documented, but inside handle catches slightly on latch trim piece. Filed down the handle catch to resolve, but inside spring protruded, so need to order a replacement handle ($15). Needed to chisel impression in wood frame to allow latch to seat properly. Otherwise, door looks nice and works properly.Toca37

Excellent opening size for our pet who is 18 lbs. I purchased the Medium opening. Our sliding door is a custom height of 12 FT, not a normal height, so using the extension included with the patio panel still doesn’t reach the top of the sliding door, which of course is not the problem of the manufacturer of this product. We remedied the problem by using and cutting to size a disposable hard foam cooler, fitted with a foam edge window and door sealer in order to eliminate cool and hot air from coming in and out. It’s not perfect, but works for our pet and for our use.Grace
I currently own 2 doggy door slider inserts from a competitor brand. I got this PetSafe insert to replace one of my inserts that is worn out, and I am so glad I did! At first glance you can see that the PetSafe is far superior to my competitor door. Upon quick exploration, I could feel that the PetSafe door was much better quality. The PetSafe door itself is more substantial and heavy duty just off the bat. I like that spring-loaded panel at the top of the door is taller (than my competitor brand) so that it can accommodate more sizes of sliders. I have multiple different heights of sliders at my house so that gives me more options of doors for me to place the insert in. This is beneficial to me when I have a party for example because I can give my dogs indoor/outdoor access to a secluded part of my house when young children are over. The second part I really like is the extra security with the locking panel to close the doggy door. Whereas my competitor version only has a plastic lock that could easily be broken into by potential intruders, the PetSafe has a very secure metal pin lock. Third, I appreciate that this insert has a slight tint to it. My competitor version does not. When I open the doggy door in the early morning in my bedroom I "hook" my curtains around my original slider handle for my dogs to access the door and I go back to sleep. The tinting on this insert is at least some attempt to block out the daylight. Finally, I like that they include some weather striping to help combat some unwanted drafts. Although I would recommend to combo the weather stripping provided with foam weather stripping to really complete the seal. Overall, I highly recommend this PetSafe doggy door insert, their attention to detail is prevalent making their door superior to competitors.MamaBear34
I'm giving it three stars because it is working but for the price, I expected a higher-quality item. In some ways this unit is too thin for my patio door track and is floppy, and in other ways – specifically the attachment brackets and the door "latch" – it is too wide. I had to come up with another way to fix the panel in place, then insert foam tape because it kept flapping when the door was used or the wind blew too hard, and then buy separate security bars for the patio door. Not ideal. And I also plan that I will need to remove it if I leave for an extended period of time, as this thing is a serious security vulnerability in the home's perimeter now…not that most adults don't already fit through an extra large pet door opening. I wish this had a full closure panel – aluminum, hinged. Maybe I should have just made something custom since I can't cut a hole in the wall of my rental house for an electronic security dog door.Julie D

At first we were discouraged to buy this panel that replaces the original glass in an existing sliding glass door because we couldn’t find a glazier in our area that would come out and remove the glass to measure prior to ordering. However, after watching a few YouTube videos, we decided to try it ourselves and found it to be relatively easy. The door functions just as expected, we love the security, safety, and energy efficiency advantages it has over our previous panel insert. Our only complaint is that several of the trim pieces attached to the panel when it arrived are too long and don’t meet nicely in the corners and look sloppy. This is a great product, but you'll really not save much trying to DIY these in-glass pet doors when you factor in your time and risk. In most metro areas you can find a glass shop that will come out and measure your door and pet, order the materials, and install it for about the same price as if you ordered the product yourself and then called a glass shop to install it. One stop shop. Difference is the risk is on the glass shop for the measurement, handling your door, damage, etc. Sliding doors are very heavy, the glazing beads are often fragile and can't be replaced, doors often won't come out of the track without some skilled manipulation by 2 people with prybars. Definitely get this product, its great. Just don't be the middle man and DIY it. Call a glass shop and let them handle the entire transaction and installation.Michael G.
