I called the company to complain about the fit the replacement had a 1/4in gap at least and they admitted there was a small gap from the original door and the replacement for our door frame. The frame is not that old either and in Florida that gap is enough for waste of air conditioning and to allow mosquitoes in which is a very bad problem. I will seek to return this replacement flap you would do better to make one yourself research on utube. We are seeking to replace the entire door and frame to a different brand that may have replacement doors available for years to come. Petsafe was not helpful at all and offered a discount on an entire new dog door to replace the original entire door and frame I was shocked — and a supervisor never called me back. I recently added a little screened in outdoor room for my cats and dogs to use for a little outdoor time. This pet door works perfectly. The dogs and the cats have no problems using it. It’s big enough for the dogs and easy enough for the cats to use too. I especially like the added inner flap that helps keep the hot outdoor air out. We got this to install at my grandma’s house. She uses a walker and often has trouble getting up as frequently and quickly as the dog needs to go outside. this is perfect because it alleviates the problem for both of them. This is not a job for one person to install – assistance may be needed to line it up and some kind of sealant might be needed if the cut isn’t perfect. But overall, I recommend! Also, I sized up to large because I couldn’t picture the opening size being enough with the medium, but probably could have gone with a smaller size since the dog has more than enough room.BRMomma

I have 7 dogs of varying sizes who use this door constantly. The only fault I find is that the rubber gaskets between the slats in the door wear out . Everything else lasts a very long time. I tweaked it by putting piano hinges between the slats and that has extended its use a lot. If I could buy just that part the door would last practically forever! Pet door flaps made very cheap,extremely light weight, when the slightest wind comes along both flaps are straight out to the outside, magnets in the wrong place to hold the flaps, I have had pet doors for many years and NEVER had this problem, I will never recommend buying this one, not worth the money for sure, very disappointed. This is a great door! My Frenchie figured it out, but she is a little hesitant because the magnets are so strong she doesn’t think they’ll open. She just has to put her bull head against it and she can get in and out very easily. My builder put it in and was pretty impressed with the whole thing. It was a fairly inexpensive solution to a tough problem when one has a dog but doesn’t want to ruin their house. This is replacing another great item that was a door filler for a sliding door but I got tired of walking sideways through, constantly hitting it, and jaring it out of place. Excellent opening size for our pet who is 18 lbs. I purchased the Medium opening. Our sliding door is a custom height of 12 FT, not a normal height, so using the extension included with the patio panel still doesn’t reach the top of the sliding door, which of course is not the problem of the manufacturer of this product. We remedied the problem by using and cutting to size a disposable hard foam cooler, fitted with a foam edge window and door sealer in order to eliminate cool and hot air from coming in and out. It’s not perfect, but works for our pet and for our use.Grace
I currently own 2 doggy door slider inserts from a competitor brand. I got this PetSafe insert to replace one of my inserts that is worn out, and I am so glad I did! At first glance you can see that the PetSafe is far superior to my competitor door. Upon quick exploration, I could feel that the PetSafe door was much better quality. The PetSafe door itself is more substantial and heavy duty just off the bat. I like that spring-loaded panel at the top of the door is taller (than my competitor brand) so that it can accommodate more sizes of sliders. I have multiple different heights of sliders at my house so that gives me more options of doors for me to place the insert in. This is beneficial to me when I have a party for example because I can give my dogs indoor/outdoor access to a secluded part of my house when young children are over. The second part I really like is the extra security with the locking panel to close the doggy door. Whereas my competitor version only has a plastic lock that could easily be broken into by potential intruders, the PetSafe has a very secure metal pin lock. Third, I appreciate that this insert has a slight tint to it. My competitor version does not. When I open the doggy door in the early morning in my bedroom I "hook" my curtains around my original slider handle for my dogs to access the door and I go back to sleep. The tinting on this insert is at least some attempt to block out the daylight. Finally, I like that they include some weather striping to help combat some unwanted drafts. Although I would recommend to combo the weather stripping provided with foam weather stripping to really complete the seal. I'm giving it three stars because it is working but for the price, I expected a higher-quality item. In some ways this unit is too thin for my patio door track and is floppy, and in other ways – specifically the attachment brackets and the door "latch" – it is too wide. I had to come up with another way to fix the panel in place, then insert foam tape because it kept flapping when the door was used or the wind blew too hard, and then buy separate security bars for the patio door. Not ideal. And I also plan that I will need to remove it if I leave for an extended period of time, as this thing is a serious security vulnerability in the home's perimeter now…not that most adults don't already fit through an extra large pet door opening. I wish this had a full closure panel – aluminum, hinged. Maybe I should have just made something custom since I can't cut a hole in the wall of my rental house for an electronic security dog door.Julie D

At first she was a little hesitant going in and out by herself but after I put her leash on and guided her through with pizza, she quickly realized she could shoot through both doors. This is by far the nicest best functioning dog door we have ever owned. We bought the meduim dog door and all three dogs love it. Our dogs range from a 6 pound Matlese to a 28 pound Frenchie and even the little 6 pounder can go through the door with ease. Our home is remolded the dog door looks like an upgrade to the house!! I recently moved to Dallas and needed a dog door that I could install in my 9.5" wood framed house with 2.5" of exterior clad brick. I couldn't find any system that would work with walls this thick so I used the double Endura Flap doors and made my own aluminum box as follows: 1. I had a local sheet metal shop cut a piece of aluminum down to the width of my wall (following the PetDoors sizing directions) by the same perimeter length as the pieces provided plus a 2" overlap for the seam. 2. Since aluminum's easy to bend, I marked my fold joints and bent the aluminum over over the edge of my work bench by clamping a piece of wood on top of the joint to hold it in place while bending. Then I hammered the joints to make a smooth crease. Although they looked a little dinged on the exterior, the inside didn't read through any of the hammered marks. 3. At the 2" overlap joint, I placed a bead of caulk in the joint and used pop rivets or 1/4" sheet metal screws to hold the seam together. If you use screws, place the heads on the inside. 4. Install the box in the wall with the joint at the top and caulk the joints all the way around to create a watertight joint. In the end I created a very sturdy pass through box in the wall that was stronger than the one provided with the out of the box system.Aaron

Window cat door arrived in tact and was very easy to install. Fits snuggly onto window sash using foam strip underneath to block any drafts or openings. The only reason this is not getting 5 stars is that the weather stripping to be used on top of the insert was not wide enough to block the gap between the upper and opened lower window. We ended up using a piece of pipe insulation to block the gap. A section of styrofoam pool noodle is also useable. We also cut a piece of PVC pipe to insert in the window track to keep the lower window from being able to be lifted up as a security measure. It took a little while for our cat to adjust to using the door. Prior to that we had inserted a piece of cardboard with a door size hole in it to see if our cat would use the opening to go from the house to the screened porch and if the regular cat door size would be large enough for him. He used this easily so we ordered the window. We used treats and showed him how to push the door open. He was hesitant to push the door open with his head so we would hold it open for him to go through, lessening how much we would open it every day. He took to using the door unaided to enter the house in 2 days. However he remained hesitant to use it to go out without assistance. Using pieces of tuna as enticement and continuing to partially open the door for him he slowly decided he could use it to go out after a little over a week and after 2 weeks has no problems using the door in either direction.Nancy B
This is without a doubt the best option I could have hoped for my pets needs. First off I have a 50lb Siberian Husky. My dog has to go outside to use the restroom every 2 hours for medical reasons, and I wasn't able to install a dog door at my current residence. After countless attempts to implement something similar, I finally found this dog door/window. I was extremely impressed when I first got it and had no complaints, but recently it really proved its quality. I was skeptical leaving it in the window knowing bad weather was coming, but I decided to test it anyway. It passed flawlessly against direct 70+MPH winds with no water leaks whatsoever. This is my second cat door. I've had a different style on my sliding patio door for several years and all my cats use it. The problem with that one is that it makes the open doorway very narrow for us non-cats. When I saw this I thought it would be better because I hardly ever open the bedroom windows and this room has three windows so I still have two that I can use. From opening the box to having it completely installed took less than 20 minutes. The instructions are simple: raise sash, remove screen, place cat door, release side spring screws, lower sash. Another minute or two to apply the weather seals over the cat door and at the top of the sash. The installation is solid, with no gaps and no rattles. My cats were using it with complete confidence the same afternoon. I have low window sills inside that the cats were already using as perches. I just put a few cinder blocks on the outside of the house for them to have steps down to the grass. If you have higher windows you may want to plan easy approaches on both sides so the cats don't have to jump all the time.lorettayeo

We used a PetSafe door for years at our old house. For our new home, we bought a door from HomeDepot on line with a pre-installed panel insert. Our old door had the sliding plastic panel with a spring pin so you could keep your dog in, and the raccoons and alley cats out (and sometimes our dog when she is too wet to let back in). This model ONLY comes with a flimsy plastic cover that wouldn't hold back a strong breeze, let alone an animal of any kind. The very nice customer service lady tells me there is nothgin i can do to modify the door using PetSafe products. I am hundreds of dollars out on the door and the installation, and now i have to spend hundreds more to pul the entire panel out, replace with wood(?) and then buy a new dog-door and install. You can't close this door – what use is that. Thanks guys….
I purchased this door at least 5 years ago and every year we’re replacing the plastic adapter that attaches to the hinges that hold/support the flaps. We’ve had to order the whole door replacement kit to fix this problem and now once again, we have to order a whole kit for these My pictures show the extra parts collection needed to replace the 4 plastic adapters and the adapters after they break and crack from dogs using the door on a daily basis.Edman

I have a huge 75lb male english bulldog, a 35lb corgi and an 18lb maltese. I was worried about the small ones getting through this with the double flaps and also it being the super large one, but so far they are better with the door than the bulldog is. This door is great. And since my corgi has the shortest legs I actually put the door a little lower than you are supposed to and it was totally fine. The only thing I don't like about this door so far is the wind does push open the flaps, but it's usually only when it is pretty bad out. And I haven't had a problem with my magnets falling back in line on the bottom of the flaps like some people posted about, so I really like this door!Natalie
This pet door is sturdy and durable. The template didn't line up, so we installed the door without it. I have a very large dog that plows through it at top speed and it has held up to his abuse. I have a tripod dog and she is able to use it without any problems. We did have to remove one of the flaps to get the dogs used to it with treats. It gave us a sense of comfort knowing the dogs could go in and out of the house while we were out of town and couldn't take them with us. I also have a large dog who is terrified of thunderstorms and I hated leaving her when I knew our normal weather patterns would include late afternoon storms. Long story short I found this big door and my dogs happy so that makes me happy. This is my second purchase of this door for my cat. Overall, a decent product. First one, the cover was rather loose, but worked. The second one, the cover was too tight, could NOT get it off, not even by prying all around the flap area and edges. Finally, in frustration, I called Petsafe to see if I'd done something wrong. Was told there have been some complaints, that I could try cutting it off and they are sending me a new cover. Hung up and looking at it thought hm, could pushing on the middle while lifting on the flaps help. Guess what….it snapped right off.Dodi78years
I bought a petsafe pet door fourteen years ago. I live where it gets to a hundred and ten or more in the summer. After seven years the plastic flap warped and so I bought a replacement flap. It has been another seven years and again the flap is warped but they no longer make the replacement flap for the xlarge classic door. I found this at newer version at petco for seventy four bucks and bought a discount gift card so I was able to just replace the whole dog door for sixty two dollars. We had our kitchen remolded from top to bottom and one of my favorite things continues to be our new pet door. We had the contractors build a bench under a new window concealing the beautiful pet door in the wall. Our little Westie loves it and we do too. The door faces North West and catches a lot of wind. Only once, with high winds, have I caught it not closing completely. There is no draft and it is so secure! Worth every penny! Our contractor built a little slide to hold the cover so we can simply slide it over to lock the door if needed. Our dear Westie is now the queen of her castle coming and going as she pleases. This is a great product. We've bought two over the years for two different houses. Even after four years of use, it they were in almost perfect condition. This is a made in America product. My dogs absolutely love the new dog door. It took a little longer to train them to go through both doors, but now they go right through it with no problems.
