I ordered this Ideal Pet Door from Walmart.com to replace the same model Ideal Pet Door originally installed over 10 years ago. Walmart.com had the best price and ordering from their website is convenient with fast shipping. This Ideal Pet Door is the same model with slightly different modifications which makes it a better door than my first one. Removing the old door was very easy to do. Replacing the new door was just as easy. All I needed was a Phillips head screwdriver and my fur~kid supervising me. BTW, The original installation took an hour and was placed into a glass storm door with a solid lower panel. The Pet Door is sturdy and comes with a panel that slides into slots on the inside to block the pet door opening. It can be used when travelling or when you want to keep your pet in or out. It has a magnetic strip on the bottom part of the frame and one on the bottom of the flap which keeps the flap closed. I have never had an unwelcome guest come through the door. The Ideal Pet Door is a great value, construction is flawless and replacement parts are available. It has lasted through years of two rambunctious very bad black labs and I am replacing it by choice. It can be installed in doors, storm doors, sliding patio door inserts and in brick walls. Ideal is well know for their quality pet products and has been in business for decades. I personally wouldn't consider any other manufacturer.tami76137

Extremely easy to install.* Looks and functions better than expected in an interior door. The screws were a bit long considering the width of the door. I would suggest using shorter screws because they were hard to screw in completely, and I was using a drill to drive the screws! Overall, the door is an excellent value and I would buy another one if needed. I went with a slightly larger door than typically recommended for cats. One reason is that we are expected one cat to grow large. (We think he's a Norwegian forest cat. Before that we guessed Maine Coon.) Also, there are steps immediately on one side of the door, so I figured extra clearance would help. The smaller door would probably work OK for normal sized, fit cats. (*I traced the part that slides through the door, drilled holes where the screw posts fit through, and just cut along those lines with a jig saw. It fit right through perfectly the first time! I had a moment of minor shock when I wasn't sure if I oriented the door properly since the middle screw posts are not centered. I did, but it would have been a correctable mistake.)shuumai

We have not installed it in the door yet…but just looking at it, it looks sturdy and indestructible, which is good, because my dog literally eats and tears the doors with the flexible plastic. I have 7 dogs of varying sizes who use this door constantly. The only fault I find is that the rubber gaskets between the slats in the door wear out . Everything else lasts a very long time. I tweaked it by putting piano hinges between the slats and that has extended its use a lot. If I could buy just that part the door would last practically forever! Having two doggy doors has always been a problem. The prior doors were made of plastic and with our weather changing all the time, the would break apart quickly but not with these new Metal doors. And the flap is even made better. Couldn't be more pleased!!priddyclover

Window cat door arrived in tact and was very easy to install. Fits snuggly onto window sash using foam strip underneath to block any drafts or openings. The only reason this is not getting 5 stars is that the weather stripping to be used on top of the insert was not wide enough to block the gap between the upper and opened lower window. We ended up using a piece of pipe insulation to block the gap. A section of styrofoam pool noodle is also useable. We also cut a piece of PVC pipe to insert in the window track to keep the lower window from being able to be lifted up as a security measure. It took a little while for our cat to adjust to using the door. Prior to that we had inserted a piece of cardboard with a door size hole in it to see if our cat would use the opening to go from the house to the screened porch and if the regular cat door size would be large enough for him. He used this easily so we ordered the window. We used treats and showed him how to push the door open. He was hesitant to push the door open with his head so we would hold it open for him to go through, lessening how much we would open it every day. He took to using the door unaided to enter the house in 2 days. However he remained hesitant to use it to go out without assistance. Using pieces of tuna as enticement and continuing to partially open the door for him he slowly decided he could use it to go out after a little over a week and after 2 weeks has no problems using the door in either direction.Nancy B

This is without a doubt the best option I could have hoped for my pets needs. First off I have a 50lb Siberian Husky. My dog has to go outside to use the restroom every 2 hours for medical reasons, and I wasn't able to install a dog door at my current residence. After countless attempts to implement something similar, I finally found this dog door/window. I was extremely impressed when I first got it and had no complaints, but recently it really proved its quality. I was skeptical leaving it in the window knowing bad weather was coming, but I decided to test it anyway. It passed flawlessly against direct 70+MPH winds with no water leaks whatsoever. This is my second cat door. I've had a different style on my sliding patio door for several years and all my cats use it. The problem with that one is that it makes the open doorway very narrow for us non-cats. When I saw this I thought it would be better because I hardly ever open the bedroom windows and this room has three windows so I still have two that I can use. From opening the box to having it completely installed took less than 20 minutes. The instructions are simple: raise sash, remove screen, place cat door, release side spring screws, lower sash. Another minute or two to apply the weather seals over the cat door and at the top of the sash. The installation is solid, with no gaps and no rattles. My cats were using it with complete confidence the same afternoon. I have low window sills inside that the cats were already using as perches. I just put a few cinder blocks on the outside of the house for them to have steps down to the grass. If you have higher windows you may want to plan easy approaches on both sides so the cats don't have to jump all the time.lorettayeo

I would not have ordered it if the warnings on the box were as stressed on the on-line ad. I have a huge 75lb male english bulldog, a 35lb corgi and an 18lb maltese. I was worried about the small ones getting through this with the double flaps and also it being the super large one, but so far they are better with the door than the bulldog is. This door is great. And since my corgi has the shortest legs I actually put the door a little lower than you are supposed to and it was totally fine. The only thing I don't like about this door so far is the wind does push open the flaps, but it's usually only when it is pretty bad out. And I haven't had a problem with my magnets falling back in line on the bottom of the flaps like some people posted about, so I really like this door!Natalie

This pet door is sturdy and durable. The template didn't line up, so we installed the door without it. I have a very large dog that plows through it at top speed and it has held up to his abuse. I have a tripod dog and she is able to use it without any problems. We did have to remove one of the flaps to get the dogs used to it with treats. It gave us a sense of comfort knowing the dogs could go in and out of the house while we were out of town and couldn't take them with us. I also have a large dog who is terrified of thunderstorms and I hated leaving her when I knew our normal weather patterns would include late afternoon storms. This door was much easier to install than my previous door. Just as advertised it prevents the wind from blowing the flaps open and letting the A/C escape. We had previously bought and installed a medium sized through-wall door from Petco, and our Pugs loved it; but now we have a 4 month old Bull Mastiff puppy who is already 40lbs., and was almost struggling to get in and out of the medium sized door. The answer was simple: upgrade to a LARGE size door, and now our fuzzy kids go flying through it without even slowing down…even the Bull Mastiff. It's hilarious!! We expect her to grow to around 125Lbs. and 24" tall at the shoulders, and we aren't sure what we'll do at THAT point, but we have a year or so to think about it. 🙂 I would very highly recommend this PetSafe pet door, and Petco had the best price.Burner01

Had one of these for about ten years and bought a new one. One of our dogs damaged the old one by trying to run in when the panel was inserted to keep him out while a worker was in the house. This broke two of the screws away from the plastic frame. Even though it says aluminum pet door, the only aluminum part is the white door frame. The brown frame around it is plastic as is the wall tunnel. Since we now needed to replace the flaps, it costs just as much to get a whole new one as it did to replace the flaps. Now for the new one – Had it installed for less than a month and spring loaded knob on insert panel is broken (called for free replacement under one year warranty). Door panel flap lengths are adjustable, but don't seem as thick (and durable) as old ones. If this hadn't been a replacement project of an existing one, not sure if I would have decided to install this one or look at other options.AZTom

I have looked everywhere for a big doggie door, I have a huge 110 lb German Shepherd and he was hitting his foot on the bottom of the old door I had in. It got infected and he had to have surgery. Long story short I found this big door and my dogs happy so that makes me happy. This is my second purchase of this door for my cat. Overall, a decent product. First one, the cover was rather loose, but worked. The second one, the cover was too tight, could NOT get it off, not even by prying all around the flap area and edges. Finally, in frustration, I called Petsafe to see if I'd done something wrong. Was told there have been some complaints, that I could try cutting it off and they are sending me a new cover. I bought a petsafe pet door fourteen years ago. I live where it gets to a hundred and ten or more in the summer. After seven years the plastic flap warped and so I bought a replacement flap. It has been another seven years and again the flap is warped but they no longer make the replacement flap for the xlarge classic door. I found this at newer version at petco for seventy four bucks and bought a discount gift card so I was able to just replace the whole dog door for sixty two dollars. I had a Large PetSafe Dog Door in my previous home. I loved the panel that came with it that would "slide-in" and allowed the door to be "locked". When I purchased my new home, a new dog door was on the top of my to do list. I went to the store to purchase one. I notice the x-large door was cheaper than the large door (I thought it was on sale or what not) so I opted for the larger door. When it was time to install the door (my brother installed it for me), I came home to notice that the Panel did not slide in and lock like my previous dog door, instead it just "pops" on. From the outside of the door it would take very little effort for someone to "pop" the panel off. And in fact, from inside…my dogs have mastered "popping" it off themselves…making the panel absolutely useless. I've now done some research and noticed there are two types of PetSafe dog doors…aluminum and plastic. Apparently the aluminum door is what I had previously with the "sliding" panel…and now I am the disappointed owner of the plastic door with the "popping" panel. Had I known there was a difference in doors…I would have opted for a Large Aluminum PetSafe dog door; however, now I'm stuck with a useless X-Large Plastic PetSafe dog door. Now because there is an X-Large hole cut out of my door, I would have to go with an X-Large Aluminum PetSafe dog door, but I cannot afford to spend that kind of money, and a Large Aluminum Petsafe dog door will not fit the space. If I were rich, I could just buy a new door and a new dog door, and problem solved; however, I am not rich, and even the thought of having to buy another dog door when I've already purchased one is making me very upset, but the Panel for the Plastic Door is truly useless…and the Panel component is extremely important in my situation. The Plastic Dog Door itself is a good dog door…I only have a problem with its "popping" Panel. If the Panel is an Important feature for you as well…please go with the Aluminum door, NOT the Plastic door. I sure wish I had known about the difference in the first place!Kari

Just order our 3rd doggie door. Our first door was installed when we first moved in almost 17 years ago. We had a two small dogs so the cat size was perfect. As they aged we needed to replace the dog door size to make it a bit easier for the now old dogs to use. Also the house door was changed so we wanted a new dog door for appearences. Now our replacement door flap doesn't fit as air tight and we have lost a bit of the plastic on the out side frame. These things are due to LOTS of use and NJ weather. Hot summers and Freezing winters. Plastic really gets tortured. Ours was installed by the men installing the storm door so that was a plus for us. I called in to get a price on a new door and Pam in customer service was able to answer all my questions and provide me with just what I needed. Thank You Pam. My new door should be here with in the week ready for our Jack Russell pup and silly grandchildren that think its a hoot to come in thru the doggie door. This is a good product-needs to be installed properly like another item in your home that gets this much use. If that is done and you inspect it when cleaning it you should have years of use. I am on my 3rd PetSafe door. I started with a smart door but I got tired of constantly changing batteries. I have 4 dogs. I got the double flap door. After about 1.5 years the plastic piece that holds the flaps started to break (little pieces at a time). There is no replacement part for this so I had to purchase a new door. PetSafe did give me a reduced price. Now, I have gorilla tape holding my one remaining flap on this door,since the same part is breaking once again. This part is cheaply made and I feel like you should at least offer a replacement part. Now, I'm facing buying another door…again.Crazydogmom

This is a great dog door for a medium size dog. It is a deluxe unit with dual flaps for maximum weather protection. It also has a slide-in closing door with a secure lock. It looks stylish and it fits (one of our main concerns) through the section of the house that has brick. We had a professional install the unit, unfortunately, it was a little higher on the outside than the dog would have liked (see picture above) which hindered her from going back into the door. I solved this problem by ordering something called the Ten-Eighty Mini Launch Ramp for about $30. It is designed for skate boards and bicycles but it will also work in this application. I needed a little modification to sit flush with the wall and I had it carpeted so the dog wouldn't slip in cold weather. Now the dog goes in and out of the door effortlessly. I hope that this idea helps others in consideration of this great dog door.norman3670

Using this in the sliding screen door that goes out to our screened porch. Kitty loves it! The install was a little tricky only because of the fact that it was a door we installed it on and not an easily removable one. I doubt the longevity a little bit, because it seems like I may need to add a little tape to seal it better or something. I’m nervous that with one strong push from the kids or dogs that the entire screen with tear. Overall, though, I think it’s a nice option!!boflay1022

My senior Calicos are sky walkers. They love bird watching on our 2nd floor laundry room roof from there they walk along the privacy fence onto a shed then jump down to bask in the sun in the fenced in garden below. I would highly recommend this doggy door. This doggy door is very well made and sturdy. It has a nice piece to slide in when you want to block the door. My friend came over to install it yesterday and the instructions were clear and it even came with a template to help with an uncomplicated install. The advertisement for this door does not give you the measurements needed for the wall or door opening which would help in determined the size you order. They are not clear on the fact that this unit is for the door and not the wall. They offer a wall kit for more money if you intend to install this in the wall. The wall kit is not needed if you are a handyman type person but you will have to go to the hardware store and buy longer screws because they are only available when you buy the wall kit. Why not just put the screws in the kit to start with.Otis2

We got a black, large, wall mounted doggie door for our Boxer. We are very happy with the quality and the workmanship of the product. We've had another known brand, but this one beats the competition. There was a minor issue with the cover, specifically with the latch, so we called the company. Brandy tried to troubleshoot it, but couldn't resolve the issue at that moment so she had to get a hold of the Technical team and get back to us. Within 10 minutes, I got a call from her to tell me that she would be sending another cover (within 48 hours of the call!) and no need to return the faulty one.

Not only the product is great, and the service is outstanding, but this is a made-in-the US product (CA), which is what I always look for. Our mom bought a large double-flap Endura door when we were just 2 months old. We are standard poodles (no, we don't have sissy haircuts). Yesterday was our 5 month birthday, and at 45 lbs each (it's all muscle!), we like to PROPEL ourselves through the door. We raise our large paws (we're both northpaws — no southpaws here), and give the FLAP a big SLAP, and we're on our way. It took me (Rocco), only a couple of days to learn to use the door. Mom splurged and gave us BACON when we would come through door. Mmmmm, bacon. At first, she held the flaps up for us and let them drag over our backs as we went through so we wouldn't be scared. Eventually, she let the flaps "slam" behind us, so we got used to the sound (she still hasn't gotten use to the loud sound and jumps when we come in — we laugh when she's not looking!) I learned fast, but Sonny is a bit slow. I have the brains and he's the cute one. I tried to help him but, mom thought I was being mean when I would come in and he was left sitting outside. I would stick my head out to the other side to get him to come in, but mom thought I was teasing him. Well, I didn't want to get in trouble, so I proved I was helping by going completely out and back in several times when Sonny finally got the hint and followed me in. Sonny understood me better than mom (and I didn't have to give him bacon). One night, Sonny and I tried to go out and nothing happened. There was something blocking the flaps! We couldn't understand why those flaps wouldn't open when we slapped it with our paws (WOOF!). Well, mom just wanted us to stay in during the night, but we couldn't see what was blocking the flaps, so she put the "baby gate" in front of the flaps. We know what the baby gate means – it means we can’t go through it and that’s OK with us. We love our special door and hope it lasts 100 dog years!Sonny R.

My insert is 5 years old now and still my dogs favorite. In the winters the UltraFlex 3 panel dog door keeps the cold out. Yes it does cut down the human passage, but its still very passable. Unless you have a non-standard sliding door.Stand77

This is a well made pet door. However, you will find it difficult to get a good seal with your existing slider. I had to buy additional weather stripping to put on each side of the pet door. I bought this for my kitties and took awhile for them to using the flap to exit because of the strong magnet at the bottom of the flap.Diane

But not together at the same time…let me finish. So I have a wonderful rotund cat but I don't let her out, so no go for her. However, If you have a portable A/C and need a way to expunge the hot air though a sliding glass door, here you go. Just put the robot arm through and you're good. The only other thing I added was weather stripping on both sides, so I'd have some padding between the door and frame. Lastly, I just balled up some rags to seal between the square cat flap and round A/C hose. So, as a cat door, yeah it seems solid. easy to adjust and strong enough to not give up. I purchased this door at least 5 years ago and every year we’re replacing the plastic adapter that attaches to the hinges that hold/support the flaps. We’ve had to order the whole door replacement kit to fix this problem and now once again, we have to order a whole kit for these My pictures show the extra parts collection needed to replace the 4 plastic adapters and the adapters after they break and crack from dogs using the door on a daily basis.Edman

Excellent opening size for our pet who is 18 lbs. I purchased the Medium opening. Our sliding door is a custom height of 12 FT, not a normal height, so using the extension included with the patio panel still doesn’t reach the top of the sliding door, which of course is not the problem of the manufacturer of this product. We remedied the problem by using and cutting to size a disposable hard foam cooler, fitted with a foam edge window and door sealer in order to eliminate cool and hot air from coming in and out. It’s not perfect, but works for our pet and for our use.Grace

I currently own 2 doggy door slider inserts from a competitor brand. I got this PetSafe insert to replace one of my inserts that is worn out, and I am so glad I did! At first glance you can see that the PetSafe is far superior to my competitor door. Upon quick exploration, I could feel that the PetSafe door was much better quality. The PetSafe door itself is more substantial and heavy duty just off the bat. I like that spring-loaded panel at the top of the door is taller (than my competitor brand) so that it can accommodate more sizes of sliders. I have multiple different heights of sliders at my house so that gives me more options of doors for me to place the insert in. This is beneficial to me when I have a party for example because I can give my dogs indoor/outdoor access to a secluded part of my house when young children are over. The second part I really like is the extra security with the locking panel to close the doggy door. Whereas my competitor version only has a plastic lock that could easily be broken into by potential intruders, the PetSafe has a very secure metal pin lock. Third, I appreciate that this insert has a slight tint to it. My competitor version does not. When I open the doggy door in the early morning in my bedroom I "hook" my curtains around my original slider handle for my dogs to access the door and I go back to sleep. The tinting on this insert is at least some attempt to block out the daylight. Finally, I like that they include some weather striping to help combat some unwanted drafts. Although I would recommend to combo the weather stripping provided with foam weather stripping to really complete the seal. Overall, I highly recommend this PetSafe doggy door insert, their attention to detail is prevalent making their door superior to competitors.MamaBear34

I'm giving it three stars because it is working but for the price, I expected a higher-quality item. In some ways this unit is too thin for my patio door track and is floppy, and in other ways – specifically the attachment brackets and the door "latch" – it is too wide. I had to come up with another way to fix the panel in place, then insert foam tape because it kept flapping when the door was used or the wind blew too hard, and then buy separate security bars for the patio door. Not ideal.
