I purchased a large size based on the dogs snout measurement and it was too big so I ordered a medium and it's still too big and can slip off. My pup is still growing so I'll keep the medium and return the large if I can.PSPete

I think for small dogs they could make the snout loop with fixed adjustments so the size would hold and it would then work more like intended but as is it doesn't work without pull on the leash which you don't always havebill

I have used the Halti brand for years. I first used one on a German shepherd dog which constantly pulled. It even developed a throat problem. Put it on a Halti and after 15 mins of protest she was great. She also accepted the halti and got excited when she saw it as she knew it was walk time. I now have a English cocker who is exactly the same, after months of trying to get her to walk correctly I fitted a halti and it is instant calmness. I have used cheaper alternatives on my German shepherd but they really do not fit the face of the dog correctly and when the dog pulls it twists their face and it must have been uncomfortable for the dog. But Halti product fits the face of the dog correctly and gives the dog no discomfort so its a good win for everyone including the dog.noxas123

These DO work well, full stop. HOWEVER, considering the ease of knockoff product availability, and probably cheap material using overesas labor, the price is questionable, ESPECIALLY since the metal rings wear through the nylon. It is not as bad with this exact design, but I think Coastal branded Halti headcolars have 2 more metal rings. If you ever have to go through a metal detector, the metal is an issue. BUT the added safety strap to clip to another collar or harness, which includes a metal spring clip is important for when the metal ring cuts through the nose-band. Also check the nose-band often as when the padding rubs away, your dog will get a rub. Again the price could be better and there are fiber-reinforced synthetic hardware alernatives to the metal rings. But, overall this is a good product.onelonecowboy1886

I was sceptical as to whether the head harness would work on my large and very strong Salukis. It is very important to get your dog(s) used to putting their noses through it to begin with and becoming familiar with it. First walk with head harnesses fitted to both, and myself nervous as to how they would react. I neednt have worried. Not once did I have to say to them stop pulling. They were like normal well trained dogs, if you can believe that about a Saluki. Ive ordered two more for my other Saluki and Daschund, thats how good they are.oldcharmfreak

Should be made of stronger material. Some of the side bits are so flimsy the dog managed to chew through it whilst wearing it within seconds. I'd just put it on the dog. I honestly didn't believe the "guaranteed" no pulling but the collar actually made a HUGE difference the first time we used it. My pup doesn't love wearing it so when we stand still she'll lie down and try to pull it off, but it doesn't hurt her. It's a much better (and more effective) alternative than a choking collar. My dog is 31lbs (and growing) and our walks used to be quite painful as she's still learning to heel. The collar has made a world of difference: Now that she's used to it she tries to pull a little, but it's very gentle and nowhere near her pulling before. This product is absolutely amazing. I train my grandma's Schnauzer on a regular basis, and though she is smart, she is horrible on walks. She looks like she is swimming, choking and straining against the collar and dragging me everywhere. My grandma and I began to hate walking her, because it was just not enjoyable. Therefore, the dog never got the exercise she needed. I'm an amateur trainer, and I saw head collars being used on TV and decided to find out where I could purchase one. I saw they sold them at Petco, and I bought one. The first walk was horrible, she hated it and wouldn't go two steps without trying to pry it off, but I'm more stubborn than her, and I kept at it. I've just returned form our third walk, and she only balked once at having the collar on, and that was when I'd just put it on. She's doing marvelous, and for once, I'm in control! My 90lb pitbull walks well on this, but she took a lot of work and will still struggle. It will take me a long time to get her to walk in grass without wanting to rub her face or paw this off. You want to invest in some training treats and constantly get their attention to turn them around and treat them. sharp 'uh uh uh' and gently pull the leash up so they cannot drag their faces or paw at themselves. Recommending a quiet atmosphere where you have time to put it on and off their faces, eventually snap it, and short multiple walks to get them interested. they will learn to associate this as what they need to wear to walk eventually and the fighting will slow. The other thing, is i specifically wanted this item for the safety feature that will clip to collar. Nothing worse than a loose dog that just had something on its face it didn't want and its now running loose cause it doesn't want to wear that againJenibear

I am amazed at how well this collar works. My 3-year-old, 70-lb. golden retriever mix is a very sweet, highly energetic girl. For the last 18 months, our walks have not been very much fun for either of us. No technique I have tried has convinced her to stop pulling, and I have tripped over her and fallen down a number of times. I can't say that she likes the Halti much – she tries to rub it off – but she has NEVER pulled against it. Walking her is so easy now; I can keep her on a loose leash and she stays right beside me. I had bought this a week ago in store. I'm so happy with the progress my dog has already made using this. He used to bolt out the gate but now hes always right by my side, checking in on me and making sure I'm keeping up with him. I've finally been able to loose leash walk him without having to worry about him running off. This has help so much in such a short time! I knew about this product for several weeks, but I delayed in getting it. I thought I'd give the puppy a chance with regular training methods (treats, praise, verbal corrections) before I started futzing with a special collar and have to buy it in two sizes. That was really stupid. I wish I would have bought it sooner and spent the money on the two sizes. I got this one in a size Medium and it fits perfectly with just an easy adjustment of the buckle. Our little man is a Labradoodle, now at about 32 lbs and expected to reach a 60-ish weight probably. He is VERY high energy, very strong and very smart, but our little darling is no longer little and I have been finding myself struggling with his 32 lb self pulling on the walks. I cannot imagine when he is full grown, so I decided finally to nip this in the bud and I ordered the gentle leader. It arrived today and I was amazed at how he has NO power to pull AT ALL. I even noticed that in many situations like when he would normally lunge at something, he didn't, maybe that is just from the novelty and will eventually wear off, but for today, it was as if he had a total attitude adjustment. It was like magic. He is none too pleased about the new situation, for sure, but I am pleased as punch. I have an 18 month old standard poodle. I’ve had her since 9 weeks old. She’s full of energy and gets super excited. I’ve trained her well on a typical lead but I was having issues controlling her when she would get excited by people and animals. If taking your dog for his/her daily constitutional is a trail, then a Halti may help. Any dog can be both boustious and naughty when spying other dogs on his/her walk. Not to mention, the bane of all dog owners lives, wild life, namely Squirrels, and other domestic pets, such as cats. The Halti allows you to control your dog by using using gentle pressure to better control your dogs head, and to curtail certain behaviours, such as pulling and barking, in a more gentle form of behaviour reinforcement, as a genuine Halti is cruelty free. The one issue I've found with all of the Halti's I've used over the years, is; though the material used is strong and long wearing, it does tend to stretch. Often, I've had to resort to stitching the band which goes around the back of the dogs head to shorten it, as once it stretches, it can slip off. Even though it has a safety strap that clicks onto your dogs coller, it renders the Halti's ability to help control your dogs behaviour null and void. I have, over a series of years never had one snap. Always, it has stretched, once the straps have been tightened as much as is allowed by design, stitching it is the best method I have found. It's important to remember, that like us, dog breeds are highly individual, so measuring your dogs headbefore purchasing this item is extremely important. Don't necessarily go by the manufacturers sizing. Often the same breed of dog, (as happens with many things) are individual, and often bigger or smaller than the standard stats of most breeds. This is my 5th Halti, and my 3rd manufacturer. There is little difference between brands, and it is often that my dog has grown or got older, that I've had to change the Halti before wearing it out. Don't be afraid to search through the many different manufacturers that sell these, as prices vary, however, be aware that buying from unregulated sellers may earn you a cheaper alternative, that isn't a genuine item. It is always safer to purchase a Halti from a reputable seller. Remember depending on the size of your pet, prices will vary. They tend to be numbered, a 1 will often fit a small breed with a 3 fitting a mid sized breed. Often this is translated into centre metres on the back of the packet. It has not arrived yet but the site is misleading. It suggests you have a choice of many colours but when I wanted size2 I had a choice of red or black only! I looked at all the other sizes and none of them offered all the choices! So I ordered red as I don't want black. My 14 month old 110 pound Black Russian Terrier is a handful. This snout about is a godsend. Sturdy unlike other halter types sold. They work like a horse halter, the animal follows their head so, control the head and you control the animal. They can eat, pant, drink, and if necessary bite. These are NOT a muzzle.dustmagnet

Fit is very important. I got a large because I have a large breed dog that’s a year old. However she has a slender neck. The large is slightly to big even with the neck portion to its smallest size. I wish I would have gotten a medium. But the product itself is a very high quality. It is durable material and well crafted. I do like the wider version but I’ve not seen anywhere else. I did start my dogs incessantly pulling off then he was doing. he still pulls it off sometimes though. I’m thinking about getting the smaller size even though with measurements this was the correct size. I wish that this came in coastal blue solid, was machine washable (it smells and I’m sure it’s unsanitary because it’s near the mouth), way smaller more ergonomical clip fastener for comfort.Obiwan

Great fitting harness and the adjustable neck section is great . I've had other harnesses in the past and whilst they fit my English Staffordshire around the body I found they got to a point where they were difficult to get on and off over his big lump of a head . Overall a great product and I'll definitely look at getting the bigger one once he outgrows this one .Scott M

I have a 70lb Xoloitzcuintli (Mexican Hairless). I purchased both the Hurtta Cooling Coat and the Swamp Cooler Dog Vest by Ruffwear. Both are made from similar material and work the same way. The Hurtta coat has much more coverage, has extended hind end flaps and front chest flaps, resembles a horse jacket. Whereas the Ruffwear is more of a fitted vest. I would have given the Hurtta Cooling Coat 5 stars however, the stitching that secured the chest strap isn't reinforced and tore out of the material the first time used. I then outfitted the dog in the Ruffwear Swamp Vest, which worked beautifully. Since my dog is hairless it was easy to feel how well the vest worked. Placing my hand on exposed skin, then touching skin under the vest, there was a noticeable difference in temperature however his skin was dry – just cooler. I have stitched the Hurtta strap back on and feel it will be equally as good if not better than the Ruffwear due to it's increased surface area.Laura

I've tried numerous harnesses and never loved any until this one. I have a miniature rat terrier who is 13.5 lbs. He tends to be too big for mediums and way too small for large sizes. Finally, this harness fits perfectly in Medium! There's even a little room to spare in case he gets larger. We wanted to take off pressure from his neck and the v neck design and light weight, soft mesh is great! It's by far the softest one I've ever felt, and I've tried every one at multiple stores. It's so comfortable that it could be left on all the time even in summer since it's so breathable. My dog lives it too! He seems to feel safe and calmer in it like a thunder shirt makes him feel. The first time I took him on a walk he seemed to feel "free". He was so happy to pounce around without worrying about a jerk in his neck. We give this one 5 stars!!!! I got this in black, size medium from Amazon. She has a 12" neck and a 19" chest. This harness is adjustable around both neck and chest. My pup has a high chase drive and will sometimes pull suddenly. I like that the x-shape doesn't put as much pressure on her throat when she pulls, and the double d-rings and buckle closure feel very secure for her leash. My dog learned to step into the harness on her own if we hold it up for her, too. Very good quality materials that will last a long time.lianna.b

at the suggestion of my neighbor I bought this harness.Online store availability says it was available at the store. Went to this store they did not have the medium size (strike 1). I got small because the last harness I got at Petco last week in a medium was WAY TOOOO big. (which I am unable to return $35 gone). (strike 2 ) Even tho this one is advertised online for $14.99 at the store it was $21.99 and the team member did not know anything about it being lower online. After trying other head halter I've found the style of this to be the best so far as it doesn't link the nose band in place, it continuously applies/releases pressure with the movement of the dog. I've had mine for over three years now and still going strong except the padding on the nose band has worn away and frayed. The only thing I really dislike is the adjustment buckle sits directly up behind the base of the dogs ear which can be quite annoying for the dog and cause ear discomfort/head shaking. If the neck strap is loosened away from the ear it becomes too loose. Otherwise it gives great head/body control.Donna

I bought an unbranded halti at a dog show but it was far from a good fit especially around the eyes as the strap fit too high around and across the eyes. It's a little more expensive than other types of "halter collars," but its features and design makes it worth a few extra dollars. Most halter collars lead from underneath the dog's mouth; the Canny Collar lets you lead and direct from the back of the head, like a typical leash. We have used it recently on two dogs — a 5 mo old Border Collie and a 1 year old German Shephard. The results were amazing. Oh my goodness! I am just about to purchase a Canny collar from VetnPet after borrowing a friend's to trial. We both have Dobermans, both pull like crazy and consequently we both have sore left shoulders. After 4 walks on the Canny collar my Dobe is a breeze to walk. Before the Canny, my arm was ALWAYS extended whereas now I have NOT had to extend my arm once. It is as if my Dobe is stuck on my left knee. The past 4 walks have been so enjoyable and easy we are walking an extra half to one hour each morning. Cannot believe the difference. Another advantage using a Canny is all the control is from the back of the head/neck and not to the side like some haltis. This is far better for Dobermans and other long necked dogs who are prone to neck alignment damage.Sue

Nice collar, good quality webbing and buckle. I do not find it as easy as shown to wrap the loose webbing around my dogs neck , when letting my dog run free, only because I find the clips fiddly and have to put my glasses on. In theory it sounds good but I have a persistant pulling springer and it doesn't'work on her like the videos I've watched. She doesn't mind the band across her nose as she has previously worn a halti, although sometimes she manages to get it off. I've looked up about persistent pulling whilst using the canny collar and I'm now trying the long lead and turn method. I feel more in control by holding the head but it doesn't stop pulling instantly . I think with my dog this is going to take time and patience to crack this. I can't say whether I would recommend this collar, as it hasn't worked for me as shown yet.chelle53

I bought this in a medium a week ago and I've used it around 2-3 times already. I have a maltipoo and she has a tendency to pull and try to go faster/farther and it would cause her to choke in her previous harness. However, not a single time since I've started using this has she choked/gagged. The sizing is a bit off for her though, since a small is too tight but a medium is too loose (but the medium isn't loose enough for it to be unsafe/falling). This harness is true to its name and is so helpful for dogs that try pulling and end up choking. It's also super softer than her old one. I also bought a small for my yorkie and I think she loves it! Normally she hates harnesses but this one she doesn't seem to mind! I feel like it makes her more comfortable when she's walking as her previous ones weren't the most softest like this. I just purchased this harness yesterday in a size Medium for my 16 lbs Beagle mix. It ripped completely in half after only having her wear it for 2 hours. It fit perfectly which is why I gave it 2 stars, but it should have lasted for more than 2 hours. Definitely not worth my money.Zoie Mom

This is my third Gooby harness. Small size worked well when she was a puppy. She outgrew the Small we got her a medium and there was a small sign of tearing on this harness when we upgraded her to large. We got her the large pink and the fabric tore in half. The black fabric on the edge was the only thing keeping it together. Our dog weighs 18lbs but she’s built like a tank. If you have a dog that pulls I wouldn’t recommend this harness. If your dog is well behaved and doesn’t pull you should be good to go.Goobys with tears

Purchased Halti harness as last resort to control large pup. Due to urgent surgery at 12 weeks of age and essential crating post-operative 24/7 (except for toilet breaks) for 5 weeks following her procedure, the critical period of training unfortunately couldn't be completed during this time frame. Once able to commence training, she had grown significantly, was very strong and strong willed … finding a harness / lead to assist with her training was difficult until stumbling across the Halti harness. For her, this has proven to be the most successful in controlling and assisting with her training … certainly working for my husband and I, and our dog.Sue

Bought this product for a 7 month old puppy that is still learning to walk on lead and pulls so badly on a flat collar that she starts to choke herself. Fitting of the harness was very easy and adjusting the straps very simple. The inclusion of the clasp that attaches to the collar is a very good idea as it helps center the front of the harness as well as a safety precaution if the harness comes loose. I was suprised by how well the harness worked, there was no pulling right from the start. When my puppy gets over-excited (e.g. sees another dog) she attempts to pull but is easily controlled compared to the flat collar. I find the straps need readjusting fairly regularly and as they get loose the harness becomes less effective. This could be overcome by stitching in place at correct adjustment but as my dog is still growing I don't want to do that just yet. Overall I am very happy with the harness and it suits my purpose of continuing to train my dog to walk calmly on lead without her pulling so hard that she is choking herself and possible causing damage.08cactus

Purchased this for our rescue red heeler who had never been walked on a lead at 16 months old. He pulled constantly and walks were unbearable. The first few walks seemed to be improving and now (even with all straps tightened and adjusted to fit) the front point connection slips around to the side of his neck so it loses all benefits of being a front pull harness and he's pulling as bad as ever! Will be looking elsewhere for a harness that doesn't move around as much. Waste of money.Tarsh

This is my second Sporn Harness purchase. I have an American Staffy and find it very difficult to keep him in check when he sees another dog. The Sporn Harness just gives me much more control and a confidence in walking him. The Harness is easy to put on the dog and also adjust if you need to. Recommend this product.blueymck96

Have tried several harnesses to help with our super hard pulling Frenchie so was a bit cynical that anything could help him but really surprised to say how well this is working. Only downside is how long the adjustable tether is so if you want to take the lead off it hangs off him and he could almost trip, a bigger dog would probably not have this problem.cindy09

Pretty heavily built, feels strong, and padding is where its needed. Not something I would keep on my pet at all times(as I believe it is intended just for outings), but definitely serves its purpose and serves it well. I have a 5 month old Great Dane and this halter has helped me with training him to walk and be around others(pets or humans), and remaining well mannered when doing so.
