While I love the original furminator for grooming and shed control, I find myself using this product more for a couple reasons. One, it brushes through my huskies thick double coats much easier than the other product and still pulls off some excess hair, but not as much. Which brings me to part two. I CANNOT use the original furminator inside my home or my wood floors would turn into a Husky carpet so I love that I can brush my dogs inside with this grooming rake and not have the pile up of hair in my living area. My two huskies prefer this brush as well. They sometimes try and walk away when I am using the yellow brush but they will let me brush them for days with the grey grooming brush.bri.b
Regardless if you have dogs or cats this take gets down deep into that under cost and gets all the dead and loss turnip and out. This brush is what I needed for our long-haired, giant breed dog. There is a bent side you use first and a straight side you use to finish off the coat. This is new to me, but worked perfectly. I do not like that this brush doesn't have a self-cleaning option, it certainly takes getting used to and I would definitely prefer it if this had a self-cleaning button. After the dog was shampooed and completely dried, I gently used this as per the instructions and removed a ton of loose hair. The dog slept though it, so I will happily brush her more often to stop any mats before they start to form and to keep all of that extra fluff off of my floors. I bought this brush for my boyfriends cat about 2 months ago. The cat is a black domestic longhair, and his previous owner hadn't cared for his fur. My boyfriend bought him a cheap brush, and when he hated it profusely, my boyfriend just gave up. He had a large buildup of matts all over him, the worst of them on his lower back and hind legs. Working for about 5-10 minutes at a time, every 3 or 4 days, we gave him a good brushing all over. He tolerated it in the areas that weren't too bad, but since his matts were so bad that they pulled his skin, we had to hold his scruff for the tougher areas to keep him still. 2 months later and his body is 100% matt free, the only ones left are on his tail (his previous owners apparently had children that carried him around by his tail, so he's extremely sensitive to people holding/ brushing his tail, so we delayed the worst of it to the end of the de-matting process). After each session and his treats, he takes a moment to straighten his fur again and is then a visibly more happy cat. This brush not only helped to shave out the matts on his skin and desheds the excess fur to prevent the buildup of more matts, but its gentle enough that his skin is not at risk of being cut or scratched too roughtly. This brush is incredible and made our cat more comfortable in his own skin. 100% recommend for long haired cats with knots or matts, even with sensitive skin.Chris
I have a large fairly hairy (thick!) Siamese cat, who never washes / cleans herself! Never had a cat who didn't, but do now. She sheds something terrible, year-round. I'm not really sure why this is ranked so low! It's cheaper than the furminator yet it does the same thing!!! Who would want to pay more for something that does the same job! We love our furgopet and I always recommend it instead of the furminator because of the huge price difference.lura.l
I actually thought this would be a little bigger for the price but it wasn't. However I was surprised at how strong and well constructed it is. Even for my overweight beagle with a little patience it works well although it says for small dogs and he is by no means small!!!! Petco sells a similar tool for about $43 and even more for larger dogs. Target sells this exact same thing (small size) for $24.50 (the large size is $27.75). I was delighted to get it from Walmart for $18. It works great. Buy it. Just do it, if you’re looking at this review it’s because your dog is shedding and you’re tired of cleaning up the fur. It’s worth it. I used two other deshedding devices immediately before trying this for the first time and it removed PILES of loose fur that the other de shedders left behind. It works so well beyond the competition that there is truly no comparison. It is a hefty price tag, but worth the investment. This deshedding tool has become my absolute favorite! The Furminator is a must-have for me. I have a German Shepherd, and I swear that my house, furniture, and clothes have more hair on them than she does. She sheds daily, but twice a year, she "blows" her undercoat. The fuminator has been a life-saver for me. Since I have started using this on my girl, her shedding has cut way down. I use this on her 2 or 3 times a week normally, but during the coat blowing I use it pretty much daily. It really get down into her undercoat and grabs hold of all that loose hair. My girl doesn't mind me using this on her either. Most undercoat tools seem to hurt her, but not this one…she actually seems to enjoy this one. OMG TAKE MY MONEY! I had the original furminator years ago. I now have a Pomsky. I have to brush him every day otherwise its a fur storm in the house. I have had many problems with this unit long term. First use was wonderful, but shortly later the batteries corroded. Since then, I have cleaned all the contacts and greased and installed new batteries and all was working again. Now, the sanding disk is slipping and so does NOT grind the nails. The disk is still in good shape and I even still have the second new disk to replace it with, but they BOTH slip and do not grind the nails consistently. It is like the rubber has shrunk and doesn't hold the sanding disk secure. TOTALLY disappointing. The furminator brush is just so effective, it is SUCH a disappointment to see that the nail clipper is such poor quality and so short lived.kugiej
I am not pleased with the Furminator as the little grinding bands do not stay in place, but tend to slide down the tumbler out of reach. On the slower speeds they will stop rotating if even slight pressure is applied. I am very happy with how quiet this grinder is and I like the plastic guard. It's comfortable to hold, but it doesn't work well. I have 2 dogs, one medium size with almost clear white nails and a larger dog with dark nails.gmac

At first I had doubts because I didnt understand how it would be effective. The bristles are so little and doesnt really look like a brush. However, once I got used to it (took a couple minutes) I couldnt stop using it! It took so much hair off my border collie dog who sheds SO MUCH! This tool did not remove any of my dog's hair. I brushed my dog (lab mix with short hair that we rescued from a shelter) with it and it didn't collect/remove any of his hair. I thought, maybe I need to do it it a little harder. Still nothing. I ran my hand along the top of his back after brushing and my hand was covered in hair. I used to have a Furminator for my small dog with medium length hair and it worked great. I would have purchased a Furminator again, but I wanted/needed to buy something quickly/didn't want to wait for it to be shipped. After reading all the great reviews of the ShedMonster, I thought I'd try it since they don't sell the Furminator in-store. Was excited to get this product as we've used other FURminator products with our dogs. The hair collection pad works for the first few strokes, but when you attempt to clear the pad, the knobs are difficult to turn and it does not rotate fully to clear the pad. The hair never ends up in the chamber. It just rolls back and you have to pick the hair of the pad manually. The other issue is the that the clear cover pops open without pushing the button, so we are constantly closing the lid and then it pops back open. Back to the drawing board FURminator. 🙁3prysinapod
