I'm using this as an outdoor waterer for a rabbit. Selected this hoping the filters would prevent mosquitos from getting in water tank and reproducing as they had in my big poultry waterer. So far it seems to be working. Nice that it's easy to lift off tank to clean metal dish, too. Doesn’t automatically dispense water at least half of the time. I’ve had to start walking by and checking/adjusting the jug multiple times a day bc the jug was visibly full but my dog was acting thirsty. Bc of the stainless bowl it’s hard to see unless you’re up close that there’s not actually any water in the bowl, despite the tank being full. I have to wiggle it or sometimes pick it up entirely in order to get water flowing again. It’s a great concept but it’s not built very well. I bought both the large and medium versions of this PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Stations for my dogs. These PetSafe versions are much better water stations than other water stations that I've owned recently. First, the fill caps are exactly the same and interchangeable between both the large and medium version. The fill caps also have spring cut off valves and a closable plug valve that is used with an added filter. The somewhat strange shape of their water reservoir bottles make the bottles much easier to carry. The black handles on the water bottles are primarily used to lock the bottles into the plastic bases. You can carry the larger bottle by its full grip handle, but not the medium bottle as there is no handle opening to wrap your hand around with the medium bottle's handle. Both of the water stations have a removable metal water bowls/basins which is dishwasher safe. About the only thing negative thing about these PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Stations is that they do NOT come with the special water filters as I expected them to because the filters were listed as "included" on the items web page. So I was a little irritated that these water stations didn't come with their water filters. My order took about a week to 10 days to arrive and they arrived on the same day in separate shipping boxes. These items were not shipped in their retail boxes but were instead sent in simple clear plastic bags that were taped closed.BillyDeeMe

Was very disappointed in the overall design of the watering bowl. In my opinion it was not worth what it cost. The pump was very small and inadequate, not properly filtering the water as advertised. And yes, I was keeping the water changed and the bowl cleaned as often as I had to do so with a regular unfiltered water bowl. The pump lasted 3 weeks and I had to return the system. Historically, we have always used a bowl. After looking around and reading reviews I decided to try this bowl. I went with the big max as we have 4 cats and occasionally a dog visitor. Initially the cats were spooked and were afraid. I had kept the original water bowl set up. Over a couple days they adjusted and now this is the one they use 99% of the time. I bought this fountain for 3 cats 3 months ago, and it stopped working a few days ago. The motor in the pump seems to have burned out simply from regular usage. I have never seen a stainless steel waterer until I discovered this. It is perfect since plastic dishes can increase the risk of seizures. Also stainless steel is easy to keep clean. Only wish it came in a bigger size like the plastic/resin ones. Someone suggested trying a standard 5 gallon bottled water with it. I’ve had this dispenser for around a year. When I was washing it in the sink, I think the water was just a little too hot for the bottle to handle. It warms the opening of the bottle. Wasn’t able to get the lid back on right after that. I wish they sold a replacement bottle. The lid is only four dollars out of the bottle messes up. Of course, once inverted the thin section just collapses from the suction created by the upside down bottle. Be extra careful that you don't twist the two, because only a 1/4 turn can pop the bottle off the bowl during this process. We have 3 dogs and this is a godsend. Got mine about 4 months ago and initially, I thought all my problems were over. I have two very large dogs and 2 cats. 3 gallons is enough for large dogs, I have two 70lb. Weimaraners and it's enough for several days. You need to clean any water bowl after a couple of days so more days than this provides would not be helpful from a clean/health aspect. I got this item as a gift. The bottle is sturdy, the base plentiful. (not sure if newer models changed to a lower quality bottle) Points that need addressing: The Charcoal filter is so compactly wrapped in plastic that it's hard to know it should be peeled off. Suggest you have a sticker that says "remove first". My first assembly failed due to that tight plastic cover and it's no wonder others have complained that it didn't flow water. The designs, cute looking lid is useless. Instead suggest the lid is made into a functional opening for ease of cleaning the inside of the bottle. The puppy grew up and all of a sudden I have two large dogs that spend the majority of their time in the house. That's great but with the coming of summer and the growth of the pup I found myself refilling water bowls 4-6 times per day…every time I turned around they were empty. I knew this because one or the other of them would come over to me and just look at me expectantly…yup, the water was gone again. I wanted a gravity filler and I wanted large capacity. I also knew that lifting 4.5 gallons at a time was a bit of a stretch. I fill it up to about the 3.5 gallon mark and that lasts them 2 days. I'm good with that. The design is great although I did forget to put the black lid on once before I tipped it over. Don't ever do that…I had about a gallon of water on the floor. Fill it up to the mark you want, place the black screw-on cap on the container. Turn the bowl of the waterer upside down and place it on top of the water container, it has lips that tell you where to place it and then give it a little twist to tighten it into place. Take it over to where you water…still upside down…and then turn it over. Before the water spills out it will be in position and your pets will have fresh water – no muss, no fuss. It's now our everyday waterer, and we fill it once or twice a month depending on seasonal weather. It's very easy to clean, with all the parts coming apart easily, and the huge openings mean everything's readily accessible even if you have larger hands. Between the easy cleanability and the use of Microban, I'd be comfortable drinking out of it myself after a fresh cleaning. It's never grown weird things or become discolored or slimy between cleanings. But. The 4-gallon model is also a giant, treacherous, clumsy mess when it comes time to refill it and put it back together. Unlike most of their older models, Petmate decided not to mold a handle into the jug on this one. While this would normally just make things slightly less convenient, this jug is also completely untextured and extremely slippery. If you don't manage to get the jug and your hands COMPLETELY bone dry, it can and will slip out of your hands, dump water all over the floor, and dislodge the carbon filter so you have to jam your arm elbow-deep into now-slightly-less-than-four gallons of water to reassemble everything. This giant, slippery, unmanageable bottle uses Petmate's twist-lock bottle top, so even if you get the bottle inserted on the first try, you often still end up wrestling with 32 pounds of sloshy slippery bulk trying to get it into its proper groove. Or, if you don't notice the bottle is slightly off kilter, the gravity feed never stops flowing and soon once again there's water all over your floor. (But, one the up side, once it's on there even your large dog isn't going to knock the bottle off its perch.) If you don't absolutely positively need the largest model, go for a smaller one. If you do, plan to throw some skate deck grip tape or the like on the bottle, and don't plan on passing refill duty off to your younger kids or smaller partner.C.M.
I purchased the 2.5 gallon gravity waterer. It is used by 1 dog and 2 cats. Problem is the water does not flow into bowl unless I tilt it. Unfortunately, this water "replenishing" water bowl does not work. Utter failure. The charcoal pack had to be removed completely as the water didnt flow. Still, the water does NOT flow…I have to tip is over myself every single time. When I inspected it closer the bottom of the filter part is completely on the bottom of the bowl. Unless the entire unit is tilted at a 45 degree angle, water does NOT come out. I bought this at Petsmart and i tried to take it back but I missed the return window by 2 days. Now I am stuck with a $27 piece of plastic. I hope this will save someone the time, money and frustration.JID918

The media could not be loaded. With four cats in the home, this isn't my first rodeo when it comes to fountains. My cats drink a LOT more when the water is constantly running, so years back I invested in a large stainless steel fountain set up close to the $100 range. We have well water, which means that many fountains with the cute little "fountain effect" – streaming little rivers from the top – clog easily. I was always cleaning that darn thing. But more annoying? So many pieces when it came time to clean, and multiple consumable parts required for the filter setup. Enter this little fountain. Combination of plastic and stainless steel. I wasn't entirely sold on the idea of plastic, but with a setup like this – where most of the water is not visible from the top – it is nice to be able to keep an eye on the water level. I'm coming around to it, I like that the top part is stainless steel. The deeper "tank' setup versus the big open designs where all the water is exposed constantly means that less dust/debris/etc ends up in the water. I think this design is superior after seeing both in action. This fountain is SILENT and NO SPLASHING/DRIPS! This is huge! Fountains with the sound of running water tend to be soothing for a few weeks and then they are just not. Particularly depending on where you want to put fresh water for your feline friend. Because there is no splashing water and thus no potential drippage, I feel comfortable putting this in the hallway corner straight on the wood floor. Just as awesome? No consumable filters with this set up. It is a three tier divided container with a super simple little turning plastic gear in the bottom that keeps it going. SO easy to take apart and SO easy to clean. If you need your water filtered due to taste then this probably isn't the unit for you, but if you are looking for easy/free maintenance give it a try! Picture included with a cat to give idea on size scale. From a daily use perspective I have two cats that drink from it every day (it is not their only source of water though) and I have to add water once a week. Only note? Don't overfill above the max water line. I did, during initial setup, and the fountain wouldn't turn on. I dumped some water back out and it still wouldn't. I unplugged/plugged it back in, and then it started up. Keep that in mind just in case you, like me, have trouble following directions!
***Update 10/28/2022*** Revising my initial review (below). Eufy customer service reached out after my initial review. They sent me a replacement unit as the first unit I received appeared to be used. Everything works great and the unit is incredibly easy to maintain and use. The "pump" mechanism is a vast improvement to most pet water fountains. Instead of a pump that sits in the bottom of the water reservoir and gets gummed up with whatever schmoo ends up floating around in the tank, this unit uses a magnet driven impeller that is easy to remove and clean. The actual motor that drives the impeller is completely separate from the water tank and can't get all gummed up. All the parts fit together neatly and the unit makes practically no noise. My only gripe is that it doesn't come with the USB wall "brick" that plugs into your outlets. Luckily we have several outlets with built in USB ports. Seems like an easy/cheap fix that would address most of the negative reviews I've seen on Amazon. ***Initial Review 10/10/2022*** Just received this and it appears to be used. There are water stains on the top metal piece and the filter looks dirty and has hairs on it.
We've been thru a LOT of water fountains. Dozens. They are either too loud, too difficult to clean, never stay clean, break after a few months, filters are too expensive, too tall for my Munchkin, or the cats just don't like them. I have 2 kitties and they are not buddies. They won't drink from the same water dish. After getting fed up with the last one for the short one, I saw this one and figured it looked promising. It was easy to set up and I was instantly impressed with how much water it could hold and how easy it is to see the water level. I can see it clear across the room! With most of the others, you either can't see at all, or it has a tiny window you have to stand in front of and bend down to check. So far I was impressed but then it was up to the cats. My little one is obsessed with water fountains and ran right up to it as soon as the water started coming out of the spout. She was a little apprehensive at first, but then gave it a try, and she loves it. Then one day and I was in the living room and heard her meowing, which she doesn't do often, and I came in and she was crying because her big sister was using her fountain! They generally share nothing. Don't sleep in the same spots, won't eat from the same dish, but I guess this fountain is so good, that they are learning to share. Sometimes I find my little one camped out in front of it and her big sister waiting nearby, wanting a turn. I've been using it a solid month now, and I'm very impressed. Several I've tried haven't even lasted this long. Another checkmark in the Eufy column, I really haven't ever bought an item from them that didn't work as intended.

I bought this one gallon size for my 2 dogs. One is 40lbs and the other is 60lbs. I use this when I need to put them in the backyard temporarily while I clean my house or if we travel visiting family and instead of bringing a bowl and waste water. The spout holds the water in great while we travel. I DO NOT recommend utilizing this 1 gallon size for any dogs if you are planning on leaving the dogs outside while your at work for 10 to 12 hours and if it happens to be a hot day as the water will not last. I would recommend a bigger one. You can put ice into this container. However, DO NOT over fill with ice. If you put to much ice and your pet drinks all the water down to the ice and IF there is more water left over, the ice WILL BLOCK the remaining water and your pet can not get to the water until the ice melts.Amazon C.
Bought this for my 2 rabbits because they were always tossing around their heavy, ceramic water bowls, as well as getting hay and other debris in them. This automatic water dispenser is working out perfectly! We can still take the jug out to clean the bowl itself, but there is a constant amount of water dispensed as needed and my rabbits can also drink at the same time for a communal experience, which they seem to be enjoying. I had originally purchased water dispensers for our two outside dogs at our local pet supply store but because of the design, frogs would climb inside the bowl and then crawl further inside and hide underneath the area where the bowl attached to the water canister. When I saw the design of this water dispenser, with the small opening for the water to come from the canister through to the bowl, I knew there would be no place for a frog to hide inside and that they wouldn't even try since there is no place for them to go. So I ordered two of these to replace the larger ones that we had, and thank goodness the crazy frog problem is gone. These water dispensers are not very large, but for my two small outside dogs, they are large enough. They hold a gallon of water (picture a gallon jug of milk), and here in Texas where the dogs' water can start to get that green appearance after just three or four days during the hot summer months, we have to clean and refill the water dispensers frequently, and these water dispensers are so much easier to clean than the large cumbersome ones that we had. I expect that during the cooler winter months, they will hold enough water for our two dogs to last at least a week or slightly longer. This is good for daily water system, but not good if pet owners are looking for a water system for a 2-3 day aways from home. The water is stagnant, it isn’t circulating. It’s like filling up a large bowl of water and letting it sit all day and night. Besides water stagnitation, the water gets warm and multi-pet slobbers get inside the water. We needed a waterer that wouldn't tip over easily. Despite it being left out of the description, this tank DOES lock into the base. That's a critical design piece for us, because this tank is for our pet goose. Geese never look down when they walk so he plows over his water tank and if it doesn't lock into the base he knocks it over, spilling the whole tank. This one you have to set into the base and twist, which locks it in while depressing a button to release the water. So even if he managed to knock the tank off, no water will spill because the button would release. We love it! Do wish there was some type of indention or handle designed into the tank to make it easier to maneuver, that's my only complaint. Some people fuss about the cheap, thin plastic in the tank–it's less than $20. I highly recommend it.Brandy

With the Perpetual Well I don’t have to worry if he has enough water. I got this for my dog, but my cat drinks out of it too!
