I give Oravet chew to my Westie as a treat for taking her medication at night. That way I am killing three birds with one stone ( for want of a better saying). 1. Most importantly she is getting her medication. 2. She looks forward to a delicious treat Oravet. 3. Good Dental Hygiene. I can see that Oravets really make a difference as her teeth a beautiful.
These things damn near killed my dog. My 15-pound Cavalier had oral surgery 3 weeks earlier, and the vet sold me these chews. I gave her and her 25-pound brother each their first one, and I watched them for a bit because I wasn’t sure what to expect. Things seemed okay so I stepped to the fridge to get a soda. When I came back, Jesse had his hair all matted from the sticky mess and Bella was collapsed on the floor. Her jaws were glued together by the sticky chew and it was blocking her airway. It was a struggle getting it out, and fortunately she started breathing again.

I have a ten year old small dog who’s teeth had gotten very bad. I have used many doggie dental products with no results. Her gums were swollen in the front of her mouth. I have an almost 5 year old golden who absolutely hates having his teeth brushed. He has had seriously terrible tarter and plaque build up (and bad breath) and I was seriously considering have him put under for a deep teeth cleaning. I started using this stuff twice a day, sprinkled and shaken with his dry kibble. I wasn't expecting anything major, but y'all the results are seriously AMAZING!!!! The tarter and plaque has all but disappeared from his teeth (especially his back molars and front upper canines) without any brushing at all, and his breath is significantly better. I started using this a few years ago. It does a good job of keeping the tartar from hardening on the dog’s teeth. I still wipe the teeth a few times a week and they clean up with just a dental wipe. The other thing that this does is prevent tear and saliva stains. I discovered that when I ran out, a few years back, and didn’t reorder right away. My cat has had stomatitis for years and traditional vet medicine has not done much for him. I decided to try the Healthy Gums drops for his painful gums that one steroid a day kept mainly under control although there were always flareups. This is the toothpaste my vet initially gave me for my cat, who has a genetic predisposition to tartar and plaque build up. It smelled pretty gross, but I trust my vet highly. He did not seem to be bothered by it. I use the poultry enzymatic one now, but just realized it does not say tartar control, so I may have to switch back to the seafood tartar control toothpaste. As stated in my other review, I cannot use the toothbrushes with my cat; they are awkward and uncomfortable for him. I do what my vet suggested which is to wrap a small piece ofsterile gauze around my finger, apply the toothpaste, and rub it on his teeth and gums.

If you want to jeopardize your dog having seizures and kidney failure then use this product. Our 15 year old Dachshund drank this for a month and starting having seizures, muscle weakness, not eating, and the beginning stages of kidney failure. Our dog has suffered from stinky breath forever even though she gets her regular vet cleanings, and we were using another tooth treatment. She’s a beagle / shitzu / pug mix, so she is already genetically doomed in the tooth area anyway, so I’ve always been concerned with her dental health and worried about it leading to other health issues. When I saw this, I was skeptical she wouldn’t notice it in her water. With that beagle nose, she sniffs out even the best tricks I try to pull, but she hasn’t noticed it yet, and the vet recently commented on how amazing we are doing with her teeth. I told her it is simply a matter of adding a cap full of the solution to her water every morning (I keep it by the sink since the bottle is small enough and doesn’t stick out, so I don’t forget.) and trust it is doing its thing. She told us to keep doing what we are doing and said she would check it out. So I have some reservations about this product. If you search other reviews across the internet, you get insane reports about this potentially causing seizures /epileptic episodes, wasting away, eye problems, all kinds of crazy stuff. However, it also does have a fair amount of people preaching that it's legit. The potential side effects are SEVERE, and it doesn't seem like the brand has done much to mitigate those cases or fears?? Knowing all that, I chose to use this for my cat with extreme caution. He gets stinky breath from whenever he eats fish based products (extreme common for cats) but the reason why I'm willing to take any of those risks is because it honestly reminds me of Accutane. I've never had to use Accutane myself, but I know that 1) It's a last resort 2) It is practically guaranteed to work 3) Side effects range from IBS to infertility /severe birth defects. So… my cat's halitosis isn't that severe to illicit the full dose. I use roughly half to a third of the recommended amount in his water fountain (which I highly recommend getting if you don't have one). So at a very low dose, his bad breath has indeed been kept at bay and I monitor his status very closely. This product works, I just strongly recommend using the lowest effective dose (just like with any human medication) and if your pet's breath is so dang stanky you feel like they need the full dose, I highly recommend exhausting all your other options first / supplementing with proper hand toothbrushing / diet changes.
