My dog has a torn ACL. Shes 13yrs old and really needed the assistance. And this sling is really doing the job. I had bought a different one before this one that was just a thick band that went around her waist & had handles at the top but it just kind of slipped down even thougn it was her size when we were trying to help her get down the stairs. I am truly thankful for the person who designed this product. Our little 5 week old stray that showed up at our home did so with a dislocated paw and a huge pressure sore where she had been walking on the side of her leg. Our local vet and myself had been trying everything to help her. She is just so active now that she's feeling better, and we couldn't find anything to help. Then, I ran across your website and found the front splint that she needed. She has been using it for 5 days now. The biggest problem we have is keeping her in it. Her little leg is so small, and even with the extra foam, she can get her leg out! I've had to come up with some of my own ideas to keep her leg in it. She is going to be a challenge to get her back to walking.Jada

My dog had pins in hock joint & splint is not helping her , unable to use it . I started to return it , but took my dog to a different vet. Yesterday & he removed pins , & she will need more surgery for ligament & tendon repair . I don’t know as of moment if my dog will ever get to use the splint . It’s perfect condition I only put on her for a minute & realized it won’t fit as needed because her leg hock joint is a train wreck . I have carpet so it’s just as it was when I received it . The vet even talked of amputation yesterday so I’m pretty depressed about the whole situation. Can I return the brace , hopefully another dog can use it . This harness is working great for us. I got it for my dog with some *mild* mobility issues. I read all of the reviews prior to purchasing and RuffWear is very clear that this is not made for older dogs with mobility issues and I knew that going into it, therefore knew what to expect and for my dogs abilities, it is perfect for us. My dog is fully capable getting around, getting up from laying and walking without assistance. I simply needed a harness that had a small handle on the **** area to guide him up the stairs. He can get up the stairs on his own and mostly does not need my assistance with the **** handle, I merely hold the handle to lessen the chance of injury in case he slips on the stairs. So if he slips, I've got the handle and he doesn't fall to the ground and down the stairs. And for that, it works perfect. Putting it on is easy (like i said, he can stand just fine). It doesn't have easy snap in buckles due to the harness' original purpose, which I was aware of and I don't mind threading the straps each time. It takes less than an minute and the harness is worth it. I opted for this rather than a harness intended for mobility issues because my dog's needs are minimal and the ones from other brands are a bit much considering my dog doesn't need help walking or rising. I do wish it had a traditional hook for a leash. I had to get a carabiner to attach a leash to the harness. I realize it's intended use and it has spots to attach rope, but even if we were using it for it's intended use, I would imagine there are still moments where some people may use a leash?? Maybe not, anyhow the carabiner worked, just an extra step initially. As for sizing, I got Medium. My dog is a 62lb lab mix. His measurements were just at the cusp of med-large, but more toward medium so thats what I went with. It mostly fits well. There is one single strap that is a bit short and doesn't go any longer than I have it. It's the strap that goes from the underside chest pad to the neck straps. I can make the neck straps longer but it doesnt really make a difference. If that one strap was just a bit longer I think it would be perfect. I think my dog is comfortable with harness for the time he wears it (two walks a day) but if I were to leave it on him all day, it would be tight around that area. The rest of the harness fits perfect so i would imagine the large would be been a bit too big for him. Considering I take it off between walks, that minor sizing issue isn't a deal breaker for us. If he wore the harness for hours at a time (or for it's intended use) then I think it would pose a comfort issue. So just consider that if your dog is also on the cusp of sizing.Taylor C.

It looks like a great dog halter. This is the third halter I ve gotten for my cairn terrier mix. This one looks like he might not be able to escape. Unfortunately, it is way too small for my dog. There is only one size smaller, and I expect it is too big, also. The receipt was illegible, and I have no idea how to send the halter back. I plan to donate it to the animal shelter. I am still looking for a halter he won t escape from.

The harness isn't working for me but I can't send it back. My dog is a male and the back strap rides directly over his, uh, spout. He soaked it pretty good the first time out so we have to keep it. But he didn't like it either – it is pretty heavy and made him overheat. Might work for winter but I have to figure out how to modify the back strap so he can pee free.

First time I used it on my English Springer Spaniel, I love it. He ruptured his ACL and surgery isn't for a few weeks. This has definitely made helping him around much easier. I've been looking for a lift like this for my dog, as her rear legs aren't what they used to be with her old age. Something to help me keep her up and or pull her back up should she fall. I'm not sure what I was expecting as I'd hope this would stay on her as photoed. It does not wear flat and neat, it bunches up behind her rear legs as she walks and theres no amount of adjusting to keep it open. Frustrating, and equivalent to using a towel, except the handles are nice, should she fall, I can easily pick her up. As for materials, the quality is top notch, it's soft interior is a plus, and the handles/clips feel strong. I've always been happy with the quality of Orvis, I just wish this didn't slide off my dog.Dani333

Our 90 lb German Shepherd sprained his ankle quite severely several months ago. He loves to plays fetch with with his whole heart and soul. He doesn't know how to be careful and kept reinjuring his ankle. These supports have allowed him to again play the way he wants-full throttle with gusto! Thank you for this wonderful product. I swear my dog Dumbo was smiling last night when he realized he could walk across the room. He was so crippled in his left rear leg and a friend said a splint might help. Well, I’d never thought of that and the vet had suggested it either. Using the medium size for my 26 lb Beagle. He has arthritis in his back and is also losing function of his back legs due to spinal cord likely dying towards the end of his spine. My Sheltie, who has severe arthritis in his front pws, is starting to experience hind end weakness. He is toeing in and wobbly. The hock brace provides light support that he can tolerate all the time. It's a tad hard to get the velcro to not tangle in the fur, but otherwise it is easy to put on.
