I've tried numerous harnesses and never loved any until this one. I have a miniature rat terrier who is 13.5 lbs. He tends to be too big for mediums and way too small for large sizes. Finally, this harness fits perfectly in Medium! There's even a little room to spare in case he gets larger. We wanted to take off pressure from his neck and the v neck design and light weight, soft mesh is great! It's by far the softest one I've ever felt, and I've tried every one at multiple stores. It's so comfortable that it could be left on all the time even in summer since it's so breathable. My dog lives it too! He seems to feel safe and calmer in it like a thunder shirt makes him feel. The first time I took him on a walk he seemed to feel "free". He was so happy to pounce around without worrying about a jerk in his neck. We give this one 5 stars!!!! I got this in black, size medium from Amazon. She has a 12" neck and a 19" chest. This harness is adjustable around both neck and chest. My pup has a high chase drive and will sometimes pull suddenly. I like that the x-shape doesn't put as much pressure on her throat when she pulls, and the double d-rings and buckle closure feel very secure for her leash. Pnut, my 1 year old pug rescue is very sensitive to most harnesses and just forget about wearing collars! After researching, and a very long search, I finally came across the Hurtta Padded Dog Harness. It is sssoooo easy to put on and less pervasive than any harness we've tried in the past. Due to him being a bit 'puggish', the harness easily adjusted to Pnuts girth and is comfortable but yet supportive enough that he was more responsive and didn't pull. Love this harness. Have had my previous Hurtta for around 6 years. Have looked and looked for one in a UK shop as the previous came from abroad but had not found one. My first impression was they where a bit expensive however once they arrived and were fitted – wow!! Beautifully stitched, great quality and they really stand out with the reflective stitching. The soft neoprene padding is so skin friendly and my dogs can happily jump in puddles with out fear of rubbing or their harnesses being drenched. This harness is working great for us. I got it for my dog with some *mild* mobility issues. I read all of the reviews prior to purchasing and RuffWear is very clear that this is not made for older dogs with mobility issues and I knew that going into it, therefore knew what to expect and for my dogs abilities, it is perfect for us. My dog is fully capable getting around, getting up from laying and walking without assistance. I simply needed a harness that had a small handle on the **** area to guide him up the stairs. He can get up the stairs on his own and mostly does not need my assistance with the **** handle, I merely hold the handle to lessen the chance of injury in case he slips on the stairs. So if he slips, I've got the handle and he doesn't fall to the ground and down the stairs. And for that, it works perfect. Putting it on is easy (like i said, he can stand just fine). It doesn't have easy snap in buckles due to the harness' original purpose, which I was aware of and I don't mind threading the straps each time. It takes less than an minute and the harness is worth it. I opted for this rather than a harness intended for mobility issues because my dog's needs are minimal and the ones from other brands are a bit much considering my dog doesn't need help walking or rising. I do wish it had a traditional hook for a leash. I had to get a carabiner to attach a leash to the harness. I realize it's intended use and it has spots to attach rope, but even if we were using it for it's intended use, I would imagine there are still moments where some people may use a leash?? Maybe not, anyhow the carabiner worked, just an extra step initially. As for sizing, I got Medium. My dog is a 62lb lab mix. His measurements were just at the cusp of med-large, but more toward medium so thats what I went with. It mostly fits well. There is one single strap that is a bit short and doesn't go any longer than I have it. It's the strap that goes from the underside chest pad to the neck straps. I can make the neck straps longer but it doesnt really make a difference. If that one strap was just a bit longer I think it would be perfect. I think my dog is comfortable with harness for the time he wears it (two walks a day) but if I were to leave it on him all day, it would be tight around that area. The rest of the harness fits perfect so i would imagine the large would be been a bit too big for him. Considering I take it off between walks, that minor sizing issue isn't a deal breaker for us. If he wore the harness for hours at a time (or for it's intended use) then I think it would pose a comfort issue. So just consider that if your dog is also on the cusp of sizing.Taylor C.
