I moved all the way from Northern California to DC in the car with my two cats (one 9 lb. domestic shorthair and one 18 lb. ragdoll), and this crate was perfect! They had enough room to move around while also being comfortable, it helped a lot with my anxiety that I could buckle the crate to the seats, and it was super easy to set up. I would recommend putting puppy pads under it so that your back seats don't get gross, and you need some other plan to get kitties in and out of the car because it's not a solid base (you certainly can't carry a kitty in the crate outside the car), but it worked great and was the perfect solution.ZorraTheo
I bought two of these kennel/soft crates, one for each of my cats, in the event I ever need to evacuate my home (for my bug-out kit). They are roomy enough to hold a small litter box, food and water dishes, plus let the cat stretch its legs. I can also put both my cats together in one for traveling in the backseat of my car. The kennels fold up to the size of a large briefcase. It is a little tricky to fold them up but not a dealbreaker. These kennels are not ideal for long term situations, but they gave me great peace of mind knowing I have a safe way of transporting and housing my cats in the event of an emergency.Karen BH

I purchased this for my new, 8-week old goldendoodle because of the certification by CPS. Not only does it provide protection for the dog to keep it from flying in the event of a crash, the mesh protects the pet from flying debris, like glass. Although it was crash-tested for up to 20 lbs, , my 6 lb puppy barely fits. She cannot fully stand and she is almost as long as the carrier is wide. To my knowledge she had not been enclosed in such a small place prior to us adopting her. The ride home was a miserable 1 hr. She whined and cried non-stop. I finally took her out and held her after about 30 minutes and she fell asleep. (My husband was driving). I took her to the vet yesterday, a 20 minute drive, and she howled and dug and bit the mesh (no damage observed) both ways There was no calming her (I was driving and alone in the vehicle so I couldn't take her out) I imagine part was the "ride" and part was her restriction (she hates her play yard as well). I am disappointed that she is not able to fit inside properly so that she has to bend her knees to move around and turning is even more difficult because of the narrow dimension front to back. I purchased this prior to her even being born so had no real idea what her size would be, but I should not have purchased this based solely on weight.CeeCee

Very hard to use. Clips and clamps are very poorly made. Aside from the fact that I've asked for refund and donated them, I did try to utilize them to no avial. When I received this crate, I was very impressed with it, I have a rescue JRT who is an escape artist. I placed him in the crate feeling certain that he would be contained while I was at work. In the time that I was gone, he literally destroyed the crate, ripping it to shreds, tore the doors off, etc. I do believe that this crate would be adequate for a dog who isn't quite so zealous about getting out. It seems sturdy and would be safe for car travel. Just won't work for a dog who is intent upon getting out. I bought it because of the description of it being a "steel" crate, but it is more of just a heavy hard plastic. Do not trust it to contain a zealous dog who is intent upon escape.
I bought this crate to contain my rescue dog who is an escape artist. Upon delivery, the crate looked solid but after the first time putting my dog in the crate, he was able to bend the door enough to escape within an hour. This is a quite nice and sturdy seat protector! The only negative is it's a bit slick compared to the quilted one we had before that wasn't so sturdy, but our lab was used to getting in and out on. We remedied that by putting 2 carpet samples across the seat on top of it. They have a rubber bottoms and soft carpet tops so our big lab loves it and no sliding! The security straps that fasten to the headrests are strong and adjustable so the height is easy to lower or raise according to how nosy your dog is…ours is very nosy and wants to know what is going on in the front seat all the time, so we have the front seat attachments extended so he can easily see up front. What a great seat cover. It's so thick & sturdy. I love that it has the rubbery underside, so it won't slide off the seat. I have a split back seat, to which I always leave 1 seat down (for equipment). This cover allows me to hook it onto the upright seat & lay it over the folded seat, yet be able to secure it to the upright headrests. I also like that it has the velcro close for the seatbelt hole. When I don't want to use it, my dogs paws won't get caught in the hole. In fact, the only thing I didn't like was that it didn't come with instructions, so I had to go online to look at pictures to figure out how to install it. Once done, it's really very easy. It also has loops to place on the front seat backrests to make it sort of a confined space/hammock. Purchased this bed for an upcoming 3 day road trip with my 16 year old poodle. Lipton is 8lbs and hasn’t traveled more than locally in the car. He loved it in the house and yesterday was our first car ride, a bit awkward at first but he settled right in. I bought the small console seat for my Yorkie Hanna. She is only 2lbs right now, but will probably be under 5lbs when is grown . She is a Mama's girl and loves to be right beside me. This seat fits perfectly on my console and the straps make it secure and safe. Installation was easy. I just watched the u-tube video. Hanna has plenty of room to lay down and sleep or stand up and look out the window. I bought mine from Snoozer.com and the customer service is great. Fast shipping, I ordered my bed on Monday and within a few days it came. The bed is made of quality material and the inside is soft and comfortable for Hanna to lay. I've used these for years. I wouldn't travel without one. Has saved my girls from being thrown around if I have to hit the breaks or when I was rear ended. I had 3 poodles and they wall sat in the same one.. even the large console seat.. they just pile in and are good to go. be sure to buy harnesses for them.. they are a pain to use sometimes but worth every dime and trouble. my girls all knew to hop in and would stand at look at me like where are we suppose to get if the seat wasn't in the car ready for them. I have been using these car seats for many years now, have even given them as gifts. Absolutely the best product out there. I currently have a 5 lb. Yorker who loves hanging out the window. The tether that came with the car seat broke when I was adjusting it after only one use. The seat itself kept shifting to the side, even though my dogs' combined weight was half of the published weight limit. Overall it was a disaster on every front. GW Little arranged for us to get a full refund–great customer service as always! We had to pay to ship it back to the manufacture, which was about 1/3 of the purchase price, but at least we got a refund. I have since learned that Snoozer seats fail crash tests and do not provide your dog with the security they would have you believe. Please go to the website for the Center for Pet Safety and watch these videos for yourself and learn of safer options for your beloved pet. I know that they all love to look out, but wouldn't you rather they stay alive in case of an accident? GWL: The tether strap should not have broke, especially from only making an adjustment. We'd love to know what broke on it. The seats need to be secured tightly by your car's seat belt, otherwise it could slide around. Snoozer seats never claim to be crash-proof. Harnesses are the safety devices, not seats. Using a Lookout car seat, and tethering your dog provides safety by keeping them restrained and not distracting the driver. They make no claims against protecting your dog in case of an accident. There's a big difference and still a great deal of research needs to be done on providing a safe environment for pets in case of a crash.Susan
I have been using the lookout car seat for years. I have purchased them AND recommended them to many friends with new and old dogs. This was a replacement for one of my older carseats whose side foams were starting to break down from taking the covers on and off over years and washing them. I like the improvement in the nicer fabrics that has a nice zipper bottom. Previous one has the basic elastic edges so it pulled alot at the sides when trying to get back on. Of I have had the medium seat I am replacing for probably 8 plus years. I like this microsuede OK but i think I prefer the upgraded fabric covers I purchased in last 2 years or so. I think they are a bit nicer which is why I gave it a 4 instead of a 5. Positively I had a friend who had a 10 year old poodle that HATED car rides. I loaned my small snoozer to her and her dog was a different animal. Keke loved it and my friend purchased one. Overall a very worthwhile product.Alexandra P

Just received this yesterday and have already taken my 5 month old pomchi puppy out in it today, our previous set up didnt give me a lot of reassurance of safety but I have complete peace of mind with this, the sides could be a tiny bit more sturdy but it does the job good size for her to lie down in and can still see out of the window when she wants too 🙂 if it was around 25/30 pound mark would be better but at the same time you cant put a price on safety overall very happykayleigh2701

I bought to take my new cat to the vet. He was only 9 lbs at the time so I assumed it would be more than enough for him. Upon bringing him home it literally fell apart and he got loose outside and had to be chased down. I followed the little instructions there were, latched and tightened everything the was to tighten and it still fell apart. Just bought 2 15 pound crates from a retail store and wow… I used to use petmate carriers almost exclusively and now I'll probably not buy another. Super shoddy construction, cheap, flexible plastic, would offer no protection in a car accident and probably wouldn't hold a determined animal.Fras
Two years ago we purchased this carrier for transporting our cats. After only a year the top split. The handle was useless. Another option was to use the shoulder harness. The rings broke through the plastic. A 16 pound cat could not possibly be the reason this product failed. I give this product a rating of zero. I honestly think it was a huge waste of money, simply because the design was flawed.

Bought Pet Palace a couple of months ago and my little fella is very comfortable,protected from the elements ( cooler weather) and definitely happier than in his milk crate. Lots of storage for leads,food and water plus baggies. This product is a little larger than the original one so is extra roomy and water bottle carrier at least you can put at a bottle in it and not wasted space. Lots of venting for warmer weather. The Pet Palace is a little on pricey side but I feel my co-pilot is safe and secure. He weighs 11 lbs.Pleasure
Very happy with the carrier so far except for the zippers. This is my second Pet Palace and I have had several zipper failures on each of them. I've been able to re-sew the zippers in a few cases but eventually they need replacement. Higher quality zippers would be nice; granted I use the bag every day so it gets a lot of use. Also, on this model the metal rod on one side eventually poked through the fabric and rubbed a hole in the fabric by the zipper. I repaired it and eventually shortened the metal rod a bit and repaired the hole it made so that it wouldn't poke through any more. If the metal support rod was bent at each end so that it followed the curve at the corner of the bag this might not happen and it might provide additional structure. Also I liked that the last model had two tether points on the inside of the bag (we travel with two tiny dogs). I riveted my own d-ring tether points on each corner of this one (like the old model) to give myself more flexibility. Other than that, it's a great bag.Jess
They tout a "rigid internal frame", but calling it "rigid" is being generous. It's about as rigid as a plastic soda bottle so it will hold its shape, but it will also deform when strapped down, when your 20lb beagle mix leans out of it, etc. It is not a roll cage, so don't expect it to offer any sort of safety should you get into a bad accident, but really none of these things will so that's something you just understand when opting to take your dog with you on a bike. Also keep in mind that it's an echo chamber inside. A heavy blanket really dampens the sound, and seemed to satisfy my sensitive girl. All that being said, it's probably the best option on the market, especially for anything larger than a toy breed. The vents and pockets are nice. The attachment points are helpful and the included straps should be adequate, but I replaced them with something stronger. The size is about as big as I could fit on a DR650 between a tail box and myself. Not perfect, but no regrets.Matthew

I did some research on the Variocage dog crate. I recall they crash tested it for all 3 types of crashes. It showed several of the straps breaking, and I thought that was a bad sign. But according to info from a video posted below, the straps are only designed to keep the crate oriented in the rear of your car prior to the collision, after that the straps can break, but the crate is designed to protect effectively. The angled part of the crate abutting the rear seat disperses the force of a rear end collision over the largest surface as opposed to a square regular crate which contacts the rear seat at the point of its corner. The corners of the crate where the dog doors are (I bought a 2 dog medium crate) are blunted- that is to conform to the crumple zone of the back of your car in case of rollover- thus creating its own crumple zone. Lastly the telescoping bars allow force to be absorbed, but still protect your dog inside. The Swedish designers have outdone themselves, The cost is around $1,100 but you get what you invest in. If your goal is to get one of the safest crates for your dog, Variocrate ranks among the top 3 in my research. I picked it over the other choices because it fit into the rear of my vehicle the best. I had very good assistance before purchasing regarding size — of my dogs and of my car–and ended up with a Large Double for two English Labradors. It's a good size for them and fits just perfectly in my Subaru Outback. I found the assembly not too difficult (the video on the website helps to supplement the paper instruction sheet). The dogs have plenty of room but the space is smaller than what they are used to, so I left it set up in the house for several days so they could practice going in and out. They both seem very comfortable riding in it, and I LOVE having them safely contained — especially when they are wet (and/or muddy) from swimming. I also like that it doesn't hinder visibility for driving very much – something I was worried about when I started looking at some other crates.Robin R.
I like the Variocage products. I have the Variogate and divider In our other car. However, positioning some components to get proper bolt alignments was very challenging on this assembly. One side flange of the rear lower panel was so far out of alignment that it had to be bent to fit. Other components required clamps to achieve alignment for bolts. If I had time to wait for replacement parts, I know that they would have been gladly provided. Since I was so far along with assembly, I decided to soldier on.
