For YEARS I recommended these to everyone and anyone within ear shot. We breed, raise, train poodles and Bernese mountain dogs. These dogs can be anywhere from 1000-5000 a piece however the pain my family is feeling from this completely avoidable losses no amount can fix. We have not lost just one family member but seven senselessly. It wasn’t till a vet tech advised me in line at our Petco not to buy this product that this was what was making dogs sick! Our puppies and adults all dogs all wore these and experienced vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, spontaneous abortions, chemical burns and the worst death. The pets in our house receive love in frequent Caresses', Brushings, Gardens for play and Special beds for sleep. Above ALL, they receive New Seresto Collars on Valentine's day each year ! Thus, they are protected throughout the year from those nasty ticks and fleas that would love to snuggle into their fur and pester the cats and dogs all season. Stopping our capture /neuter/release program of 35 years, didn't leave us free of cats. We three ranch wives found ourselves still with cats, after the "DUMPING" ceased. And, praying we outlive them ! We were fortunate in finding homes along the way, for kittens and adult cats that were eager to have forever homes. Oversight Subcommittee Report Reveals EPA Failed to Protect Pets, Owners From Dangerous Flea and Tick Collar

Washington, D.C. (June 15, 2022)—Today, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy, released a staff report entitled “Seresto Flea and Tick Collars: Examining Why a Product Linked to More than 2,500 Pet Deaths Remains on the Market,” which details the findings of the Subcommittee’s 16-month investigation into the safety of the Seresto flea and tick collar. The report reveals that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under previous administrations was aware of the dangers of the Seresto collar as early as 2015 and failed to take action to protect pets and their owners. Scientific experts, a former EPA official, and pet owners will testify about the dangers of the Seresto collar and the findings of the Subcommittee’s report at a hearing this afternoon.

“It is unacceptable that the EPA has been aware of the Seresto collar’s safety concerns for years and has continued to allow Americans to unknowingly put their pets in danger by using a product they have been led to believe is safe,” said Chairman Krishnamoorthi. “While I am pleased by the EPA’s new commitment to revisit the incident data, I urge the agency to initiate formal Notice of Intent to Cancel proceedings to determine whether the Seresto collar should be removed from the market, including a comprehensive cost-benefit review of its serious risks. Following the Subcommittee’s disturbing findings, I believe the EPA must expand its data collection standards and more strictly follow its scientific review process to ensure that dangerous products are not permitted to stay on the market and threaten the welfare of pets that so many Americans view as family.”

The Seresto flea and tick collar received EPA approval in 2012 and was introduced to the market in 2013. Since then, Bayer—the original brand owner of the collar—and Elanco—which purchased the product in 2020, have sold more than 30 million collars. Pet owners embraced the convenience of the product, which provides 8 months of flea and tick protection for dogs and cats for under $70, and which is widely sold by pet specialty stores, online pet pharmacies, and large online retailers.

The Subcommittee launched its investigation into the collars in March 2021, following the publication of an investigative report which revealed that, as of June 2020, there had been more than 75,000 incidents and approximately 1,700 pet deaths linked to the Seresto collar. Since then, the reported numbers have increased to more than 98,000 incidents and 2,500 pet deaths.

The Subcommittee reviewed emails from the EPA, as well as documents from Bayer and Elanco, that showed the EPA was aware of these incident numbers and the dangers caused by the collar yet failed to act. Documents and communications obtained by the Subcommittee reveal:

EPA Rushed Seresto’s Approval Through a Flawed Scientific Review Process: An EPA Risk Manager wrote in 2016 that the agency “rushed” the Seresto collar’s registration so that the CDC could use the collars in a study. The California Department of Pesticide Regulation found that key studies that tested the Seresto collar on adult dogs and cats were not acceptable because the studies “greatly under-estimated the exposures” to one of the collar’s active ingredients. Bought the Adams flea & tick plus as it came two in a Pkg & we have two small dogs. There was no warning on product that small dogs could suffer side effects more so than larger dogs, I found out online when my baby (the smaller of our two at 11 #'s) started acting very strange. He couldn't be still, yet at bed time he was so tired he would try to lay down & there was involuntary twitching & muscle movement, he couldn't be still. Morning & no difference, so it occurred to us only thing new was the flea collar! Took it off & called my vet. She said long as he hadn't eaten it, he should be ok but to monitor & if he didn't improve he would need pet urgent care. I love my little boy so much! I was in tears, but as day went on he did improve some and that night he was able to sleep right up next to me with some twitching, but not nearly as bad. End of second day, he is much better but I can't imagine the damage done if we hadn't put it together & removed the collar!

After one night in the collar, my poor Chihuahua was weak in the back legs, had NO appetite, started throwing up yellow stomach acid with bits of red, stringy blood in it, and is shaking all over and miserable. I really liked the quality of this training system. Over all the Pro system works as described. However, the collar attached to this system is longer than needed and shortening the strap is questionable given the contact wire that runs through the strap. Also, the strap would be more beneficial to be a snap locking system rather than a buckle. As my dog recognizes the purpose of the collar, she is not a fan, and likes to put up some resistance when having it placed on her. Given a snap system would take seconds to secure rather than a wrestling match.Runningguard

I did a lot of research on ecollars before deciding to purchase this one. I got this for a dog that is a rescue who has had some major behavior issues. I use the collar for training and he is excelling at everything. The only thing I would caution would not be specific to this ecollar but to all ecollars. Watch the fit. The band stretches after it's worn a few times and needs to be tightened on the dog's neck. Be sure to start out at the lowest level and only go up in slight increments until your dog reacts to the zap. This will prevent you from using more power than needed. I have three dogs and will be purchasing additional collars for my other two dogs. All three can work from this one remote. Switching from dog to dog is done by simply turning a dial.justjen

I’m very satisfied with the R.A.P.T. 1400, the remote is very user friendly and I’m so happy to have a back of the hand setup. Battery life on the collar itself seems to be much improved over my previous models of collar. My one and only complaint is the collar itself is already starting to separate layers, fraying at the feed point and I’ve had to trim and tape twice in less than a month of use (my other collars took years for this to happen). Training is quite enjoyable with the ergonomics of the remote and the programmable quick button is definitely a nice touch. This product saved a pound pooch. We adopted a 2 year old schnoodle (schnauzer/poodle) from a shelter. He is smart, learns tricks and basic commands quickly (with treats), but he will ignore you when he doesn't feel like obeying. His biggest issue was diving out the door any time it was opened, and when he got outside, he would run off and not return until he was finished exploring (even when called). It only took a few "stimulations" to teach him to come back when called. It has also been useful in training our "cat-dog" to stay off tables. The unit has 15 intensity settings, and we normally only have to set it on 2 or 3 (when dealing with the outside run off problem, we had to turn it up to 7 one time.) Contrary to the product directions, we use the tone feature as a warning prior to "stimulation" as we also have an electronic fence for him that uses a tone to warn him to stay in the boundaries. Therefore, trying to use the tone on the training collar as positive reinforcement would have confused him. After only 2 weeks, 99% of the time, all we have to do anytime he is disobeying in anyway is give the warning tone. He has also learned not to wander too far from me when he is off the leash. He weighs 14 lbs and has a neck circumference of 10 inches. The collar fit fine after adjusting it and cutting off the excess. The receiver is also one of the smallest of all the brands/models we looked at. Our dog has also tested the waterproof feature, as he took a dive in a swamp yesterday. So far, the unit is still functioning. The unit does have to be charged daily, even with limited use.CritterLuvR2

Finally, I found the perfect system for my needs. have two dogs on the collar for walking. I walk them in the woods and sometimes they'll run off to chase something. I use the collar to keep them in check but still allow them to run. I've tried three other training collars and my issues with all were- 1. I had to re-connect the collars to the transmitter after each recharge. 2. Switching quickly between the dogs took too many steps to switch. 3- The range of them were not as advertised. This system solves everyone of those issues. It's the best one I've found that has no programming after charge. The charge last longer. No 9v battery required to transmitter. The range, even in the woods is excellent. Switching the transmitter to each dog is very very simple.pinballace

I had high hopes for this collar as my older dog has a chronic condition and we are all very tired of his cone bumping into all of us and the whole house, and so is he. But, despite measuring and it appearing to fit exactly as described in the instructions, he had NO TROUBLE getting to the growth on his underside. Complete waste of time and money. He may as well be wearing a sock. We tightened everything to the point of it being uncomfortable for the dog and still he just reaches around like its nothing. I don't understand what this collar is supposed to do for a regular 60 pound mixed breed dog, about the size and shape of a medium lab.mg77

The Bite Not collar slowed my pup down from licking his neutering surgery, but didn’t entirely stop it. He is very flexible, so could wrap himself around to lick. The collars are very well made. I had to use one size larger to control his movements better than the right sized one. We bought two, one for our larger dog. Use the cone of shame in his cage for the night. These collars are ineffective! I have found multiple attached ticks on my dogs, right next to the collar. I have used Adams Flea and tick products for foster dogs/cats before, and they seemed to work well. So although I prefer not to use poisons, thought I would try on my own dogs after a mild winter and ticks are appearing in this area (Central NH) more and more. Very disappointed. Wish I could return them, but did not save the packaging.D

The Adams Flea Tick Collar for Dogs are my go-to tick collars for my four-legged babies!! They really work great and very inexpensive. I’ve always really like that they come in packs of 2 because I have 2 big doggies. However, we just recently welcomed a a new baby into our family. Chief’s a full-blooded Chocolate Lab. The packs of 2 are still great though, because I always keep a couple spare packs as backups. We live in Alabama and these are a necessity year round.marcie.m

My 4 month old chiuahaua puppy hasn't been right since buying this collar! Started out fine and then by that night I was woke up to my furbaby scratching uncontrollably at his neck and twitching like he was being stung randomly then came the hallucinations bc he we are night 2 and collar free of course and he's been up all night crying and restless with doe eyes and terror. The on-line Walmart experience was as good as the best service there is, and much better than most. Ordered on Wednesday, at my door on Friday. Free shipping. The Dogtra Arc collar is just what my American Treeing Feist, 11 month puppy needed. I had borrowed the same collar from my daughter for about a month, but she needed it back, so for the past two months he had begun to get a little independent in the woods. As soon as I put the new Arc collar around his neck, he was a changed dog. Even without paging him, he began to hunt about 75 yards out and would return to check on me every few minutes. Whenever he gets out of sight, and seems to wander too long, I simply "page" him about three seconds and he comes running. Only twice in the past week have I had to stimulate him, somewhere between level 6 and 11. Then for a day or two after that, only the pager button is needed to turn him around. I have an adopted fur-baby that had a lot of control and behavior issues. Training, the usual way was just not working. I tried this and, within one day, the disruptive behavior (running and tearing up things in the house, jumping from one piece of furniture to another, non-stop barking) all stopped. He began with sitting, immediately after only two "vibrations" of the collar. By the end of the week, all I had to do was take out the remote control, say the words of sit, stay, no and wait, and he did so. Now, I don't have to use the remote at all but just say the words. I will tell you that, under no circumstances would I recommend the "shock" feature. Because it is easily changed on this model, by accident, I found out, the hard way just how much it hurts the animal. If you click MODE, by accident, from it being on vibrate, it switches over to Shock. BE VERY CAREFUL when you are about to use the Y button, for sound or vibration as, if it's on shock–and this was the very low setting–the dog whelps loudly and jumps, shakes, etc. I would not recommend it for any animal lover as, I don't even want to know what it feels like. Because the vibration is strong, even on low settings, and the other setting of "beep" is a high frequency sound, I found them the most effective. Thebeep sound is for Guiness (my new family member) to come–I use the vibration for correction, when needed. Guiness was the most difficult dog that I have worked with and I have behavioral training for dogs, which I have used for all of my pets. If this worked on him, it will work on most dogs that have behavioral issues. I would recommend it for the vibration and sound settings–and hope to get one that doesn't have the shock setting as, I feel that is just inhumane to use on a dog (my opinion after seeing how he reacted, on just a low setting). PLEASE USE CAREFULLY until you are used to the remote. That is my only advice when purchasing this for training.kelly4jesus

I have had the collar only a few days and so far it has met every expectation. We had a more expensive name brand training collar before this one which my dog somehow removed and chewed to oblivion. Rather than spend over $150 to replace it I wanted to try out a cheaper alternative in the likely event he ruins another one in the future. He had already been familiar with a training collar so going to this one was no problem. I like having a beep tone as well as a vibrate warning before having to go with a full on shock. I have so far only had the use the warning tone which is nice and loud on this collar and the pup recognizes it right away. It seems to have decent distance, have not tested the claimed 330 yards yet though. For the price it is a great unit with nice features. The more expensive one we had before was much more robust but I didnt expect this to be built the same for 1/5th the price, with that said it is built well, surprisingly well for the money honestly. Have not tested the waterproof ability yet as we dont live near water but it looks like it should be fine to get wet without issue. Battery life seems good so far, going on several days without a recharge but we dont use it all day either. Overall I am so far satisfied with it, I would recommend this toanyone who wants an inexpensive training collar but I dont expect it to last for years like the other one we had.kerr8719

Tested on an open field with the collar in line of sight, the range is roughly 150 feet. That said, I strongly doubt if any of the other e-collars can do much better without extraordinary antennas. Here in the US the transmitting power of devices like this is severely limited by law, so the only way to get more range than the competition is to have more prominent antennas. This collar delivers on a 2 year old high drive, 78 pound, male doberman. I used the shock once at 30 and it definitively got a yelp and the dog's attention. Since then the "vibrate" mode is effective enough. Most of the time we use the collar to stop barking at the window, The dog barks we say "quiet" and if, and only "if", the dog immediately barks again he gets a "vibrate". He seems to avoid barking immediately after a "quiet" command. Now the challenge is to extend the time he doesn't bark for at least 30 seconds after a "quiet" commend. Our second and very infrequent application is open field recalls. For that I'd dearly love an electric collar with a 100 yard range, but even this collar's 50 yard range is helpful. Using an e-collar in an open field is a tricky business. What seems to work is to put the collar away until you have a good recall without distractions. Even 10 feet in a hallway or tennis court teaches you and your dog how to do a recall that ends with the beast sitting nicely in front of you and getting a tasty reward. Never repeat your recall command even if it means constantly dragging the animal back until it figures our what you expect. What the e-collar is then useful for is dealing with distractions — another dog, an annoying squirrel or even sniffing a bit of chicken soup spilled nearby. Issue your recall command and look for that momentary hesitation when the animal decides to ignore you and hit the e-collar to remind the beast that you just gave a command. Any other timing and the animal has no clue and would just as easily take off in the opposite direction to get away from the unwelcome stimulation. One feature I miss is a combination tone/shock. Product initially worked well. Combination of tone, vibration, and shock works well for training. My golden retriever responded well. Unfortunately the second time I went to charge the collar, the connection between the collar and the charger would not make contact. I chatted with cabelas and asked if they could send me a new charger dongle and they said I wanted that option I would need to work directly with Garmin. They gave me the option to return by mail, but I didn't want to be without the collar for that long. Instead I drove to the store to exchange it but they did not have the model available in the store. I returned it at the store and ordered a replacement on line. I bought this collar about a year ago, and it is still just as effective and powerful today. This has all of the capabilities I need for training and enjoying my time with my dog. With the multi-collar functionality, it’s also great for people who own multiple dogs as you would just need a new collar and program it to a different color code switch. My dog can go swimming, get dirty, muddy, get hosed off, and the collar still works like a charm. I am extremely impressed. We bought this a couple months ago! Best investment we ever made! Our dog doesn't like the neighbours dog and would bark like crazy every time he was out in the yard. put the ecollar on him and only had to use the shock button a couple times and it stopped the bad behaviour in its tracks! Love it! The only thing I noticed was the collar became unpaired from the remote after we took him to the lake to swim. We installed the in ground wire around the perimeter of our property. I have one dog that digs under our fence and one that climbs the fence. These collars keep our dogs away from the fence and keeps them from running out into the street. We have had our fence for 5 years now and only replaced the collars once because I misplaced them. Batteries need replacement every few months. I like that the dogs get a beeping warning once they are within a few feet of the perimeter and only get shocked if they cross the boundary.fldolphinmc

I have a lab / hound mix that is 11 years old and she weighs about 85lbs. We began usin this collar since April 2017 and within 3 months, one of the prongs broke off. We contacted petsafe and were told that this is an uncommon problem and that the only way this could happen is due to "rough play, hitting it against an object, over-tightening the probes, etc." I have a hard time believing our senior aged dog plays rough enough to break the prongs of a durably made product. If you have a larger / sporting breed dog, i would steer clear of this product and go with Invisible Fence or the SportDOG brand from another retailer. They seem to cater to larger / sporting breeds. We've had our fence under a year, no problems with the actual fence. We have 2 dogs on the fence, 1 is an English Mastiff and the other is a Cocker Spaniel. The Cocker Spaniel's clip/closure cracked and broke off so we had to go out and search almost an acre of property to find it. We did find it but it is a PAIN to have to go out and search for a collar that you would not expect to break. Recently our English Mastiff has been strolling off the property, she has never done that in the almost year we have had it. First think I did was check the battery and decided to be safe we would change it!! That didn't work so I decided to take off the collar and check it to make sure it worked and it does but there are certain times when it don't. I have it on the highest frequency and I'm hoping this works, I will keep you informed. But us like others are missing the clear caps that cover the button to change the frequency. I don't understand how these pieces can come off unless we take them off, this tells me that there is a malfunction in your manufacturing if we are not the only ones missing these caps!! Then to top it off, you sell these clear caps and expect us to pay for them, something doesn't seem right. If you know these clear caps come off, shouldn't you be trying to fix this issue and offer those caps or free? ​Rich T

I received the collar and opened it to put on my cat. I immediately noticed the pleasant smell of the collar and how soft and flexible the collar was. It went on with ease and was simple to put on. The purple color was a nice contrast as well. The cat is leaving it alone and when I pick her up that light scent was very nice and not over powering. I highly recommend the color for comfort, style and I really like that the effectiveness is for 7 months. Before using the collar I had a situation were my other pet who is a dog woke up one morning and couldn't walk and was in pain. As it turned out he had contracted lymes disease from a tick. He is doing better but was on medication for a month and a very expensive hospital visit for him. My decision was to get collars that I can trust and be confident in. That is why Hartz was the choice for me. It lasts 7 months and I don't have to worry about any of my animals for the season. With it being so easy to put on and having it last long is a bonus. I received a Hartz® UltraGuard® Flea & Tick Collar for Dogs – White in exchange for a review. I loved the fact that there is enough length in the collar that it would fit multiple size dogs. I put this on my 62 pound Pittie the very first day I received it. I did have a little trouble getting the end through the buckles but luckily, my dog is very patient. I haven’t noticed any adverse effects on his skin nor scratching where the collar is. I do have some very tall grass that he likes to run and play in on a regular basis and I typically use some sort of OTC drops from the store. I have not found a single flea or tick on him since I started using the collar and definitely recommend anyone giving it a try before spending a fortune at their local veterinarian.SexyCougar

My dogs go to the groomer for their baths every 6 weeks and I was shocked when they told me my german shepherd had a few fleas on him and the groomer informed me that fleas were bad this year because my dogs have never had fleas., so in a rush, I ordered these flea collars and they seem to work but I also use a spray bottle with 1 cup of apple cider vinegar mixed with 2 cups of water and spray it on my hands then rub my dogs down before they go outside in the mornings first of day then I spray their beds a spritz of it and voila!!!! no more fleas!!!!!! I also used the Hartz flea and tick drops which also works along with everything else. I like a clean house and just can't deal with fleas !!! Now we are back to a normal household without the company of fleas !!!!Pamela

Worked great kept my chihuahua in the yard after only a few days of training. the sad part is we had him finally trained to stay in the yard wo a lead and a neighbors pit (one of 4) dug under their fence and attacked him & me. Although he survived The initial attack (and the shock collar survived as well as it was bitten off & scratched but still works) my dog died a week later from complications before surgery. Now i wish Id let him run out of the yard, hed obviously have been safer. Still a great item worked great and it wasnt the collars fault. Id recommend this item to someone even w an older dog. This works great on my Pomeranian. I needed something to keep him from running into the road, onto the school bus with my kids, or into the neighbors yards. I don't even have to use the shock setting, the vibrate setting on 80-100 works wonders. He now comes when I call him without me having to use it. The only negative thing about this collar is that you have to pair it every time you recharge it, and one time I forgot. Definitely worth the money.Winter

This is an effective tool to train your dog with options to not have to shock the dog unnecessarily. The collar has a good range as my dog has come running back from 4 houses down on the first day when we used it the first time. It has a beep warning that has been very effective in the training process. As soon as my dog hears that beep it stops and sits. It also has a vibration that I use instead of the shock that is very effective. It has an intensity level that can be set. My dog is small and this product has changed his future as I know he would have eventually gotten hit by a car because he could get through small spaces in the gate.chris-dgfi3nhbs

PetArmor products have been the family favorite for many years. They work well and are easy to use. I've always preferred the collars over liquid drops because my dogs always seem to freak out when using the drops for some reason. Pet Armor Flea and Tick collars are convenient, semi easy to use, ready to go in minutes and there is no mess. They have a nice natural odor that is pleasant. I really like the metal tin that they come in. However I was a bit confused as it stated that there is one collar but clearly there are two. I chose a 4 star rating simply because it was not immediately clear on how to fasten the collar. I had to play around with it a bit to figure it out, but I would say that would be the only negative I spotted. The collar is light weight, extremely flexible, so it makes it comfortable for my pup to wear. The excess was snipped off and I had a well fitting collar. I have yet to see a single flea or tick since I started using the collar.Sattie

My 75 lb boxer is on the adjunct staff of my cardiologist. His job is to walk me, hard, every day, 30-45 min. I have osteo- and rheumatoid arthritis as well as heart issues. When I used the training collar for the first time, it was like magic. Those plastic teeth work perfectly. Before, the dog usually behaved, but a nearby squirrel, or another dog, could be too much temptation to pull. Now, the gentlest tug and the usual "Leave it" command keep us walking like pros. I have little trouble disconnecting the links, but really, folks, surely you can add large tips to the cord ends instead of permanently joining them to a ring: one tip is the leash loop and male connector; the other is the female connector and release button. How hard is that? Connected, the collar fits with proper snugness after the owner adds or removes links. Disconnected, the collar opens so far it will slip over the dog's head and ears with ease. No more complaints from owners of impatient, wiggly dogs. Sure, this would add a dollar or five to the price. Big deal. Ease of use would be worth it. I have a 100 pound dog and it pulled so bad that nobody in the house could walk it except for me. And it was a struggle even for me. I had to keep an eye on her at all times because is she took out after a squirrel or something and I wasnt prepared, she would either break free or throw my shoulder out. I did some research and came across this collar and it had some good reviews, so I got one. My dog stopped pulling INSTANTLY!!! No joke!! She was like, What the heck???, and has never pulled since! Shell sort of pull, but nothing at all like before. Now my 90 pound 10 year old walks her easily. This collar worked so good, I got another one for my much smaller Australian Shepard, and now she dont pull anymore either. The collar seems well made and its easy to adjust. I think Ill eventually wear them out, but as soon as I notice wear, Im getting replacements. Best 20 dollars I ever spent!johnofthecosmos
