We bought this to keep our giant slobbery indoor heckin' chonka watered for a brief getaway, and on the whole it's hit the mark for that. At 4 gallons of water, with an optional activated charcoal filter pack, this thing will keep your dog(s) stocked with tasty water for quite a while (especially if you have smaller breeds). It's now our everyday waterer, and we fill it once or twice a month depending on seasonal weather. It's very easy to clean, with all the parts coming apart easily, and the huge openings mean everything's readily accessible even if you have larger hands. Between the easy cleanability and the use of Microban, I'd be comfortable drinking out of it myself after a fresh cleaning. It's never grown weird things or become discolored or slimy between cleanings. But. The 4-gallon model is also a giant, treacherous, clumsy mess when it comes time to refill it and put it back together. Unlike most of their older models, Petmate decided not to mold a handle into the jug on this one. While this would normally just make things slightly less convenient, this jug is also completely untextured and extremely slippery. If you don't manage to get the jug and your hands COMPLETELY bone dry, it can and will slip out of your hands, dump water all over the floor, and dislodge the carbon filter so you have to jam your arm elbow-deep into now-slightly-less-than-four gallons of water to reassemble everything. This giant, slippery, unmanageable bottle uses Petmate's twist-lock bottle top, so even if you get the bottle inserted on the first try, you often still end up wrestling with 32 pounds of sloshy slippery bulk trying to get it into its proper groove. Or, if you don't notice the bottle is slightly off kilter, the gravity feed never stops flowing and soon once again there's water all over your floor. (But, one the up side, once it's on there even your large dog isn't going to knock the bottle off its perch.) If you don't absolutely positively need the largest model, go for a smaller one. If you do, plan to throw some skate deck grip tape or the like on the bottle, and don't plan on passing refill duty off to your younger kids or smaller partner.C.M.

I purchased the 2.5 gallon gravity waterer. It is used by 1 dog and 2 cats. Problem is the water does not flow into bowl unless I tilt it. I thought the filter was obstructing it so I purchased new filter….Same Problem. Then I removed the filter…..Same Problem. Also my cats keep batting at it to get water and end up knocking the reservoir off the bowl…Flows all over floor!! Now it is past the 30 days so no refund or exchange.available…Really wish I had read reviews first, although many seem happy with the product…….Any suggestions??KRP2022

Got a new Jack Russell and after much review of all water bowl products, I decided on this one because it is strong plastic, has microban and is made in USA (although it never says what things are from overseas). Unfortunately, this water "replenishing" water bowl does not work. Utter failure. The charcoal pack had to be removed completely as the water didnt flow. Still, the water does NOT flow…I have to tip is over myself every single time. When I inspected it closer the bottom of the filter part is completely on the bottom of the bowl. Unless the entire unit is tilted at a 45 degree angle, water does NOT come out. I bought this at Petsmart and i tried to take it back but I missed the return window by 2 days. Now I am stuck with a $27 piece of plastic. I hope this will save someone the time, money and frustration.JID918

My 12 year old Yorkie suddenly starting losing the contents of her bladder during the night. The vet suggested checking for a UTI. I did some research and found that not only would that be expensive and require a course of antibiotics, many people found that the dog's UTI would come right back after they were done. Since she wasn't in pain when urinating and there was no sign of blood, I thought I would try apple cider vinegar first which evidently works very well. It didn't help so next I tried Tinkle Tonic which did help, but not completely. I called the company which makes it and they suggested using the Tinkle Tonic concurrently with the Leaks No More. Voila, no more leaking! When the TT was finished, I just kept using the Leaks No More and it worked fine by itself. Two caveats, you have to keep giving it every day and by itself. I tried another of their homeopathic remedies for itching and gave it concurrently and when she leaked again, found out from the company its effectiveness is reduced when given with another remedy.the-old-den-closet

Was very disappointed in the overall design of the watering bowl. In my opinion it was not worth what it cost. The pump was very small and inadequate, not properly filtering the water as advertised. And yes, I was keeping the water changed and the bowl cleaned as often as I had to do so with a regular unfiltered water bowl. The pump lasted 3 weeks and I had to return the system. Historically, we have always used a bowl. After looking around and reading reviews I decided to try this bowl. I went with the big max as we have 4 cats and occasionally a dog visitor. Initially the cats were spooked and were afraid. I had kept the original water bowl set up. Over a couple days they adjusted and now this is the one they use 99% of the time. The original is still available, but is rarely used. I also like the idea of no corners and plan on cleaning it once a month when the filter is changed. I highly recommend this product.Hypatia

I'm using this as an outdoor waterer for a rabbit. Selected this hoping the filters would prevent mosquitos from getting in water tank and reproducing as they had in my big poultry waterer. So far it seems to be working. Nice that it's easy to lift off tank to clean metal dish, too. Not sure if the material will be good for cold temperatures but I do have two heated water bowls for that anyways.JanD1

Doesn’t automatically dispense water at least half of the time. I’ve had to start walking by and checking/adjusting the jug multiple times a day bc the jug was visibly full but my dog was acting thirsty. Bc of the stainless bowl it’s hard to see unless you’re up close that there’s not actually any water in the bowl, despite the tank being full. I have to wiggle it or sometimes pick it up entirely in order to get water flowing again. It’s a great concept but it’s not built very well. I bought both the large and medium versions of this PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Stations for my dogs. These PetSafe versions are much better water stations than other water stations that I've owned recently. First, the fill caps are exactly the same and interchangeable between both the large and medium version. The fill caps also have spring cut off valves and a closable plug valve that is used with an added filter. The somewhat strange shape of their water reservoir bottles make the bottles much easier to carry. The black handles on the water bottles are primarily used to lock the bottles into the plastic bases. You can carry the larger bottle by its full grip handle, but not the medium bottle as there is no handle opening to wrap your hand around with the medium bottle's handle. Both of the water stations have a removable metal water bowls/basins which is dishwasher safe. About the only thing negative thing about these PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Stations is that they do NOT come with the special water filters as I expected them to because the filters were listed as "included" on the items web page. So I was a little irritated that these water stations didn't come with their water filters. My order took about a week to 10 days to arrive and they arrived on the same day in separate shipping boxes. These items were not shipped in their retail boxes but were instead sent in simple clear plastic bags that were taped closed.BillyDeeMe

I wanted to use this in backyard for dogs rather than the ol'stock pot. I put it on a multiple faucet extension, but this causes the waterer to be on a slant which does not allow air lock of water and it drips – so if you are going to get one of these you will have to apply it straight on the spigot so it is vertical to prevent over dripping when not in use.t.

Bought this for my large dog. Although not the smartest creature, he learned how to use it in 2 days and now absolutely loves it. He shows off that he knows how to get his own fresh water now. I've had one of these hooked up for like twenty-five years! I'm replacing it with another one. My dogs always have fresh water! For new purchasers; Just put a bowl underneath it and let some water drip into it from the Lixit so the dog can see it and nature takes over from there. I have found that it is very important to keep your dog well hydrated in order to maintain their energy level while competing in Agility or dancing in Freestyle! I have often found it difficult to encourage them to drink enough while being excited in their favorite physical activities! My dog went head over "heels" for this canine recovery drink! She is very active but oddly doesn't seem to drink as much as I think she should, even in the desert southwest. However, when I offer her Replenish, she eagerly drinks the entire serving. I bought this product because our pup was having accidents in the house. I followed the instructions exact. One important part is clean the area then spray it with this product and leave it! Very important because I think the citrus smell is unpleasant to them. I did not think it was strong smelling at all. She did not pee in these areas again. She is now pretty much trained to pee outside. After reading the reviews I really think it all comes down to if the dog finds the smell offensive or not.Hpic

The reviews are very very mixed, so I was super hesitant. I had gotten a kitten and she really likes to have her accidents on the landing of the stairs. Almost 2 months later, I have tried 4 other sprays, carpet scrubber additives, and carpet powders. I have spent $25 on ONE product, and over $150 for all that I've tried. From the first spray, the accidents stopped. Its been over a week now with not a single accident! I spray it once before leaving for work and once before bed! This product didn't work for my dog at all. It just changed the colour of her diarrhea. I think one of the problems is that the directions say to give to your dog every four hours. However, it's cherry flavoured, which my dog didn't find appetizing. The only way I could give it to her was by mixing it up in her food, but I can't be feeding her every four hours otherwise she'd be overweight.Jerome

I’ve owned several choc nose water bottles for my Guinea pigs. While I love the convenience of the set up, and the small amount of leaking, 2 of them fell apart, metal tube from plastic. This is honestly a good water bottle for hamsters, I was using water bowls for a while for a couple of reasons, one being I have them in bin enclosures, and 2 being the fact that my one hamster used to destroy his things. This is very nice because by adding two simple holes to the plastic wall of the enclosure I can attach this while the bottle is outside and the mettle tip is inside. No more destructive behavior, and still works great. I have two and both work fine, no leaks and also no issues with the metal ball getting stuck.Danica

Wanted it to fill higher than it did so had my man do a quick adjustment in the back part and after about 2 minutes and hooking it to the water hose we were all set. The plastic hose connector fractured immediately upon light hand tightening without tools. I had to spend another $10 at the hardware store replacing these parts. Also, the float mechanism was installed upside down, and needed adjustment internally or it would never have worked at all. If you are handy, and like to re-engineer things, and spend more money to get newly purchased equipment to work, then this is the item for you! If you just want to have it work reliably out of the box, get something else.drjjarvis

well first the good…..it shipped out blazing fast. but that is all the positive I can say about this little demon device. Maybe if you have a little dog this may work if you only have to fill it once a week but for daily use….useless. I found it hard to fill and hard to clean. I have used similar products before with great success and the price point on this attracted me. But like a $5 off coupon for a new Cadillac…it was useless. The clear plastic "holding tank" is hard to open and darn near impossible to reseal without spilling the water all over. My dogs went back to their old dish or went outside to the pool. We have had our watering dish for well over 8 years. Unfortunately the stopper broke today and we will need a new one. We so love this dish we are replacing it with another one just like it. We have 4 dogs and at times 5 drinking from the dish all day long. A few years ago my Chihuahuas neck was broken in a fight with a Great Dane. The vet wanted to put him down but I said I will nurse him back. He would not eat and I started giving him Nutri-Stat so he could get some nutrition. He made a recovery and is still going strong 8 years later. Excellent for older dogs. My dog is now toothless, and a very picky eater. All his food is specially prepared so we are limited in what we can feed on top of his pickiness. This vitamin is a paste and he loves it. It’s also gives him an appetite. He’s addicted to it. It’s got a lot of corn syrup in it, so watch the sweet factor. It will make them fat, and is probably not great for the teeth. But our dog is past that hurdle with NO teeth. We’re just pampering him in retirement.
