I grind my dog's nails about once a month, give or take. I've only had this thing since the end of October, so after about 6 or 7 uses, the battery will no longer hold a charge. As this battery is integrated into the device there is no easy way to replace it, ergo, this thing is now little more than a paperweight.,After leaving it on the charger for an entire day, I attempted to use the nail grinder today. It ceased to function in less than 60 seconds. Do I feel like I got my 30 bucks worth out of it? Maybe. But all the same, for anything like this a 6 month lifespan is insane. Before anyone hits me with standard battery troubleshooting like "Did you leave it on the charger all the time, that ruins batteries you know." I never stored it on the charger, and would only charge it up shortly before I was going to use it. Aside from the last attempt where I did indeed leave it on the charger for a full 24 hours (in a deliberate attempt to see if the battery was simply charging slowly, as there is no battery status indicators on the device), this thing lived in my "dog go bag" until it was needed. I tried both the charger it shipped with, and a Samsung phone block as it charges off a USB-B charger.,So yeah, really disappointed in the lifespan of this product. Aside from that, functinally (while it functioned), it is a good device. It did its job, the light helped me aim and see the quick in my dog's nails, so I never quicked him with this thing. He doesn't like the noise it makes, but he's a good boy so he deals with it, and it *is not* a loud tool. What should you take from this? Well, the device is basically a chinese knockoff dremel tool. It works in exactly the same way. So, grab a rotary tool from your preferred hardware shop, and use that instead. It will certainly outlast this thing.Yay F.
We have 2 dogs we do the nails on. A Border Collie and a German Shepherd. We've tried nail clippers (both guillotine and "scissor" like) and dremel in the past. The dremel was great, but we moved and the tool got destroyed by the movers. I tried an Andis that we picked up at the local pet store, that just couldn't cut it against either dog's nails. I had all but given up on grinders and hated the clippers when we found this. It's a dream against both the BC's nails (all 4 paws, generally done in 5 minutes, including baiting him in for it!). This is the 2nd Poobies Dog Nail Grinder that I have purchased. I have the older version and wanted to get this upgrade with the light. I have two dogs, a dachshund mix and a blue heeler. I had no problem introducing the grinder to my dachshund mix and use it all the time on her. It took a little longer with my anxious blue heeler but with patience and some favorite treats I am making progress and have been able to grind a couple of nails. I first introduced him to the sound and then started tapping the grinder gently on his nails one by one offering a treat when he allowed me to touch the nail. Because he likes to mouth a lot I tried putting on his inflatable recovery collar so that he would not mouth me or the grinder. Rather that grind all the nails at once I did a little everyday so not to stress him out. Each time he let me grind a nail I offered a small treat. First I must let potential buyers know that this does not come with a rechargeable USB as indicated in the description. You must buy AA batteries. However, it feels very comfortable in hand, and the cap doesn't unexpectedly fall off during use. I love the red paw print button design and how this device is big enough for a better grip during use. I see NO use for the automated light though. It's not as a flashlight that scatters around the object; it's more of a straight forward line. LOVE IT! We have two Cavaliers with small nails and two Setters with large nails. Worked beautifully on all! Although not noisy at all, the motor running was still a sound the dogs were unfamiliar with so I let it run while giving them some favorite treats. After a couple times of that, they ignored it with the exception of one of our Setters who's skittish about ALL noises so not surprised by her reaction. Took a couple minutes for me to get used to the feel of using it and the dogs too, but then I was able to finish eat dog quickly and easily! Even our super skittish Setter settled down by the third paw which gives me hope that eventually trimming her nails might not be the battle it's been with regular clippers. First one got here damage. Bubble wrap inside popped, asumming it bounced all around and got damage. Exchange at store, excellent customer service. First timers like me, start slow so you can get use to the grinder. It might not look like it’s grinding but it is. The higher speed will grind fast. It’s hard to tell which one is the 100 grid and which one is the 60 grid. They felt the same to me. Do not try to tighten all the way down without inserting the tip first. If you do you will push the gold holder and squeeze the holder shut which will not let you insert the tip. When you receive, simply press the button. Loosen a little more, insert the tip and tighten. Turn the power on and your set to go. Used it twice and my dogs nails are smooth. I used medium speed on my dachshund and miniature poodle and then a slower speed to shape and fine nails. For my pit bull I used a higher speed as his nails are bigger and stronger. So far so good. And yes weird set dogs but they all get along and al indoor dogs. When I started my search for a good nail grinder, I knew I needed something powerful for my newfoundland-labrador mix. He's nails are very thick. This works really well to grind them down. It's not cordless, but I think that's better. The battery-operated grinders I've used in the best will not be as powerful as the battery drains. This product worked great for the first few times I used it but then it bogged down so much that it didn't take much pressure to stop the wheel from spinning. I wasn't dirty or misused. I contacted Petco and they sent a replacement (kudos for their great customer service) but that one also stopped working after maybe half a dozen uses. I have 2 8lb dogs and their nails shouldn't be too much for a product that costs $50. Having worked in a grooming salon and in animal rescue, I'll let a few of you in on a secret. Your dog groomer uses something very similar to this. Hence your dogs nails feeling smooth when they leave the groomer. (Or, they should anyway.) YES, your dog may likely be frightened of this weird, crazy tool. (However unless you're managing to use this all kinds of wrong, it won't hurt any more than filing your nails hurts you.) It takes time and patience to work up to using this with many dogs. The sound and vibration of the tool are off putting. Some don't mind, others do. It's about the dog, and if your dog doesn't like it, I suggest following the instructions a little better. Let me say first off that I don't use this to take length off the dog's nails. I use proper nail clippers to do that, I use THIS to file the rough edges left over. Unless you're using this very regularly, it isn't going to work like the informercial (shocking, I know!!) I deducted points for two reasons. One, I think they could have made the motor a lot quieter on this. Two, it is annoying to change the heads. Otherwise, I like it, and I use it regularly.
The sound of the device is not very loud, though they provide instructions of how to get your pet used to the sound if they are afraid. Thankfully my dog was introduced to the sound and feel of a Dremel at an early age and it no longer scares her, so no issues there. The device is easy to use and convenient but my only issue is that it is not powerful enough on my husky's nails. The device has a built in safety that when too much pressure is applied it will shut off but it takes more than the "correct amount" of pressure to get her nails ground down. It takes too long to get her nails trimmed down because the emory on the rotating filing head is not strong enough. I purchased the devise so that I could grind her nails at home and save money every few weeks at the grooming place but now I have to decide if it's worth the time and effort to do it at home or would I rather pay the money to have someone else do it. I have had many problems with this unit long term. First use was wonderful, but shortly later the batteries corroded. Since then, I have cleaned all the contacts and greased and installed new batteries and all was working again. Now, the sanding disk is slipping and so does NOT grind the nails. The disk is still in good shape and I even still have the second new disk to replace it with, but they BOTH slip and do not grind the nails consistently. It is like the rubber has shrunk and doesn't hold the sanding disk secure. TOTALLY disappointing. The furminator brush is just so effective, it is SUCH a disappointment to see that the nail clipper is such poor quality and so short lived.kugiej
I am not pleased with the Furminator as the little grinding bands do not stay in place, but tend to slide down the tumbler out of reach. On the slower speeds they will stop rotating if even slight pressure is applied. I am very happy with how quiet this grinder is and I like the plastic guard. It's comfortable to hold, but it doesn't work well. I have 2 dogs, one medium size with almost clear white nails and a larger dog with dark nails.gmac

This is not as good quality as i was expecting from a name like wahl. The motor seems rather weak and stops spinning with very little pressure and the build is very plasticky. It took a while to get my dogs used to it and the trick was taking it slowly with lots of treats over a couple of weeks. DO NOT rush it or they will never accept it. Having a grinder put on your nails is a very alien concept for a dog after all.royjess

It's a little noisy but what you get inntrade off is a fast effective grinder with multipurpose attachments that work. I'm really pleased with this purchase. We LOVE this! My Chiweenje has always been impossible to clip his nails and we have always paid $15 per month for a groomer to trim his nails. Well, COVID-19 put a damper on that so I researched and found this. It has been a life saver and is going to save us a ton of money between him and our new mini dachshund. The tips only stay super sharp for about 3-4 uses, but it's still worth it for the price. We have been using it weekly and my dog doesn't mind it at all, whereas he HATES going to the groomer and is terrified every time we go. Excellent small portable nail grinder. I like the portability of the product and the quiet nature of the nail grinder. I used it on my Pomeranian puppy for her first time nail trim and she did excellent. It did not scare her and made for a pleasant experience. It comes with multiple sanders and has multiple speeds which help with a very young pup. I used it on my older Poms too and it worked very well. I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it to people with small to medium size dogs. I don't believe it is powerful enough for large dog nails.020508
