3. Hunting Dogs: Different Breeds And Special Purposes [Book]
Product Details:
You may not realize it, but many of today's most popular dog breeds were actually bred hundreds, if not thousands, of years ago to be expert hunters. their size, coat, color, behavior, and unique abilities were all carefully selected and engineered to assist in the hunting of game big and small, including deer, foxes, waterfowl, and even rats. some were also bred to assist on the farm, working as shepherds. though more often found walking on leash and lounging in living rooms today, these special breeds are still used by modern hunters for the same purposes for which they were originally bred. this book introduces the reader to the various classes, types, and breeds of hunting dogs, their various specialized characteristics, their skills, and their temperament. this is an indispensable guide to anyone considering buying and training a hunting dog, and a fascinating read for any dog, or history, lover.
4. Where Hunting Dogs Rest [Book]
Product Details:
Every winter throughout spain it is estimated that up to one hundred thousand hunting dogs are abandoned or killed at the end of the hare-coursing season when they are no longer needed, perform badly, or are too old. this book portrays dogs that have been rescued and sets them against the landscapes in spain where they are typically abandoned. shot in a style that references the tone and mood of velázquez, who painted at a time when these dogs were treated with great respect, martin usborne's photographs show both the classical beauty of the animals and the ugliness of their modern situation.

13. Hunting Dogs; Paperback; Author – Oliver Hartley
Product Details:
As if hunting for profit, night hunting for either pleasure or gain and professional hunting generally had no importance, writers of books have contented themselves with dwelling on the study and presentation of matters relating solely to the men who hunt for sport only. even then the fox chase and bird hunting has been the burden of the greater percent of such books.it remained for the a. r. harding publishing co. (publishers of the hunter-trader-trapper magazine and a number of helpful and practical books on hunting topics), to appreciate the demand for books and reading matter adapted especially to the tens of thousands of hunters who make, or partially make, their livelihood from hunting and trapping, as well as a million casual hunters and farmers of the united states and canada.

Reviews:
I ordered the Embark test for my latest foster pup, Reba. Reba had been abandoned in an orchard in the Central Valley of California with her pups and mate. It took quite a while for rescuers to catch her and then she spent 8 months at a shelter regaining her health and learning to trust humans again. In February 2022, we brought her home as our foster pup. We had no intentions of adopting Reba when I ordered the Embark test. Curiosity got the best of me and I thought it could possibly help to see if there was any correlation between some of her behaviors and her breed(s). The test was really easy to use, but Reba’s first sample did not include enough DNA sample to analyze. Embark’s response was great! They let me know right away and sent another collection kit. Turn around time for her results was about 2 weeks after submitting the second sample. Were we surprised at her results? Yes and no! We were pretty certain Reba was part Australian Cattle Dog (26.5%) and guessed that she’d likely be part American Pit Bull Terrier (25.8%). But we were surprised that it was so evenly divided and, even more so, that she was 20.7% Chihuahua! The biggest surprise was 14.4% Chow Chow. Didn’t see that one coming! With her top three breeds being so close percentage wise, we call her our ‘cattle-pit-a’. The key word in that last sentence is ‘our’ – we adopted this cute little nugget on May 29th.Lori T.
We adopted a puppy(she's about a year old now) from a local shelter and wanted to do a DNA test on her. She was listed as a mini schnauzer mix and looks like one. She has black wire hair with a creamy soft under coat, but when the test came back 45% mini poodle, about 24% pit bull terrier, 6.6% German shepherd, almost 5% mini pinscher and 19.6% supermutt and there was 0% schnauzer, unless it was included in the 19%. I can agree that I see a little shepherd in her, possibly mini pinscher, but 45% mini poodle? No way, nor pit bull. She looks more mini schnauzer or even Scottish terrier if anything, so for that not to even come out makes me question the whole test results. And after spending the $$$ on it actually makes me more frustrated, because it just seems like a waste. The only good part of the experience was the communication and fast results, which is why I gave two stars instead of one. Also, I've tried to upload pictures so people could see what I'm talking to about, but of course it keeps saying error uploading photo.Rebecca W.
To be honest, I am a bit dubious about the whole experience. I was a bit skeptical just based on the fact that pictures of the dog were requested prior to testing the dog and questions were asked about suspected breed prior to testing. My puppy has a pronounced underbite and has a very short snout. We were told that his mother was a boxer lab mix. However, both my puppy and his litter mate came back with no boxer or lab. My pup was pit bull, sharpei, hound and golden retriever. Physically, I don’t see any way that my puppy should have the underbite and short snout with breathing issues as he does. The results indicated that he also had “super mutt” comprised of beagle, hound, and pug, but that percentage would be way too small to make such a big impact on my pup’s physical traits. In addition, my pup has also had skin issues also associated with boxer breeds that are not common in the breeds he is said to be according to the DNA. I am also concerned about the common percentages that come back on the results: such as the dominant breed being around 60%, but the other breeds come in at 12.5% across the board. That does not follow Human Ancestry Testing, which offers varying percentages rather than 12.5%. I wish I felt more confident in this test than I do. I do feel like I wasted my money. If I had the money to spare, I would do quality controlled testing on the companies offering pet DNA, because I feel that we are at their mercy since many of our rescued pets do not have a known history. It’s really disappointing. I would not do this again.Elizabeth R.
