At first reading the instructions you might get overwhelmed but it's not as bad as it seems at first with the install. The only thing I wish is there was a way to make it have a wireless signal to the main box so you don't need to run wires into the house. Part of my install is on the fence and some in ground both were fairly straight forward. We have been working with our dog per the instructions. While I feel we could probably teach our dog where to stay out of with just the training guide in the book but the added collar helps reinforce the boundaries. So far she is responding well although she is a border collie and they tend to learn fast but I don't think it would be hard to work with any dog with the right patience and practice. Don't buy this if you expect it to work out of the box you still need to train your dog the system is more of a reminder than it is a set it and forget it.Jono21
The PetSafe In Ground fence worked great in our yard! We aren't allowed to have traditional fences in our subdivision but wanted to be able to keep our goldendoodle safe and in our yard. This system was a bit of a project to install in comparison to hiring a company or something, but the directions well clear and concise and it wasn't difficult to install. We borrowed My dog was very receptive to the training with the boundary flags and picked up on the boundaries very quickly and easily!! Petsafe had some helpful videos on their website which helped guide us how to begin training as well. The system seems really reliable, and I love that I can know that she is safe and gets to run and exercise without having to worry constantly. The collar is lightweight and comfortable for my dog and easy to adjust. I highly recommend this pet containment system to keep your loved fur babies safe!!wogsll34
The in-ground fence was extremely easy to install and had step-by-step directions on how to do so. I had thought it would be difficult to install, as I am not an overly technical person, but was surprised to learn that even the least technical-savvy person could install. I love that my dog no longer needs to wear a leash outside and he's able to roam freely. I feel this provides him with a sense of independence, although he still prefers to be by my side. On my end though, it provides me a sense of relief that even if I look away momentarily, he won't be able to roam outside of the flags. As far as your dog goes, I would recommend walking him or her around the area to ensure they are aware of where is permitted and not permitted to go. Once your dog learns this, they will be on their way to what they feel is freedom.Amber24

One year and one month after I purchased this, the unit came apart completely. The housing separated into two parts. I have loved using this collar because the batteries constantly fall out of the other collars and that gets expensive. But buying one of these every year is not cheap either. 🙁DigitMom
I have owned this system for a yr and run 3 collars on it. At first it worked great 4 months in a collar stopped working it would show red light like charging but would never come on so i purchased another one 130 bucks (wow) with in weeks same thing to my other one called tech support this time they walked me theough how to turn it on (at this point i laughed at the begining of the call i stated i have had the system a year) they told me it must be broke and buy a new one. Well broke to me is nothing working but i have red light on charging and stays red for hours 8 to be exact on both of them so this is trash and do not expect help from tech support. The collars swell if it gets wet also PetSafe Response Thank you for taking the time to share your review, Danny. We are so sorry to hear you have been having trouble with your collars. So I originally posted that one year and one month after I purchased this, the unit came apart completely. The housing separated into two parts. I have loved using this collar because the batteries constantly fall out of the other collars and that gets expensive. But buying one of these every year is not cheap either. 🙁 Fortunately, when I called PetSafe I spoke to a very helpful rep who offered to replace the collar for me. I'm very grateful and very happy about this, since it is a very nice collar and easy to use. Here's hoping the failure of the first one was a fluke! I probably will ultimately get another one for one of the other dogs (we have 3!) once we use up all of the batteries we have. While I'm only giving three stars for the collar due to the short lifespan, I would definitely rate service at 5 stars!DigitMom

Only took 2-3 sessions and 2 mild static corrections to have my frisky Doberman trained! She loves to bolt into the woods at the first sign of this stray cat and nothing has been able to prevent it until now. I even let her out without the collar and she stays in the designated area. I heard that the battery dies quickly on the collar so when she is not outside, I take the battery out of the collar to lengthen the battery life. It's been 6 months and still on the original battery. If you live in a condo/townhouse, you may have to get creative with the base placement since the radius is a circle.dgoleno
This system of pet containment is one of the best things we've purchased and have been using for years. We have 2 transmitters at home and 2 more at a vacation cottage. 2 allows for a larger area for dogs by over lapping fields of coverage. This transmitter purchase was to replace one that finally failed.denistonsfeldt
We currently rent our home so putting up fencing is not an option for us. This wireless fence allows us to let our dog enjoy some perceived freedom. The system works very well and keeps our pup confined to our yard. Batteries in the collar have to be changed on a regular basis. If not, you may find yourself chasing down an overjoyed dog who intentionally runs through every puddle in your neighborhood. I highly recommend this product especially if fencing is cost prohibitive or not an option for you and your pet.kathie5172

One day is all it took for my escape artist to stay in the yard. We now know that our fur-babies are safe in thier own area, Sure beats running home several times a day to round them up. Very easy to install, took us about 4 hours from start to finish. We did not bury the wire (one is a digger) but put it into PVC around the yard. It protects the wire from lawnmowers, weed eaters and digging. The wite PVC also serves as a reminder to the dogs that it is the line in the sand to not cross. It was easy to put the wire around a herb garden to keep themy from jumping on it, My big guy will bolt to the corner of the yard but hits the brakes hard within five feet of the line. I set up the white flags around the yard so they will know where to stop. The directions were easy to understand and online had pictures to give us ideas and how tho set off areas. I would recommend the stubborn big dog to anyone who needs to contain their babies.jamieladie

Reviews:
We have a Goldendoodle dog and we bought this system when we adopted almost two years ago. We purchased this system because it was recommended to us and I wish I would have done more research. Our Goldendoodle dog's collar cracked in half about a month ago. My husband and I are extremely furstated becase there are no other collars that are compatible with this system. A replacement collar will be around $150, which is also more expensive than competitors replacement collars. What really infuriates me is reading other costumers reviews and realizing, I will need to buy several other replacements throughout the course of my dog's life because he is still farely young. My husband and I are serisouly considering getting rid of our entire PetSafe system and install a new system because factoring in the projected cost of replacement collars that we will mostly likely go through is A LOT MORE than the cost of an entire new system and to have the new system professional instally. I understand there is a one year warranty, but from the reviews I am reading, along with my own experience, the collars conveniently break/crack after the year is up. I am very disappointed and upset because until we are able to get our dog a new collar, or new system he is the one who suffers. We LOVE our dog, we live on a large piece of land, which he loves to roam. Unfortnately, we can not let him roam because without his collar he roams out of our property. My husband and I are scared he will roam out onto the main roadway that is close to our property. I don't mind spending money on something that is a good product and will help keep my dog safe, but I am furious and upset when a product is not durable and does not hold it's value and for the fact this seems to be a continous issue.boymom2
We have two collars for the YardMax system that we have used for years. We lost our two elderly dogs and now have two 10 mo old German Shepherds. The system was easy to train the new dogs on but the pups are destroying these collars! I have had to order numerous replacement receivers and repeated collars – and they are only 10 mo. old! I went to the site to order another replacement receiver and they are out of stock! YIKES!rmglry
I've had this fence for around 2 1/2 years. Works awesome. But the collars are awful. The strap goes around the electronics, so anything that pulls on the collar breaks off the plastic tabs and then done, another $150, just as others here have stated. I don't care about a 1-year warranty. For this kind of money, it should be 5 years! Also feel that after ALL these reviews and still no design change, I wonder what the real PetSafe motive is here, to get us to keep buying collars? Since I upgraded to the thickest wire possible, now looking at other systems that can use the same wire but have better collars, as I've already spent more on collars than I did on the whole original fence. Since I can't recommend the fence and collars separately, AND since these $150 collars happen to be the ONLY ones compatible, I can't recommend the product.da28fan

This took my husband and I about a couple of evenings to install. You bury the lead wire around the perimeter you don't want your fur baby to cross and the collar is light and works nicely! I have a jack Russel/Chihuahua that likes to snoop and sneak out of the yard and this little device has solved that problem. I only needed to use the tone mode and that worked fabulously. I bought an additional collar for my blue heeler. She is a bit more strong willed and faster, so static mode worked for her. I'm thankful for this! It gives me peace of mind that my furry loved ones are safe.Ohosford
I installed this fence for my dog on a town lot that was around .25 acres. I must say you should definitely read the instructions fully before just starting this installation as you have to do some prep work, and this is not simply a plug and play fence if you want to trench it in. I think if there was an existing fence or something you could probably get away with just hanging the boundary wires directly to it but chances are that is not the case always. In my case I used a spade to kinda make the trench on my laid-out boundary line. I did this after a heavy rain as that made the task by hand much easier than the ground being rock hard like it is when it is dry. I stepped on the ground with my body weight after the installing the wire to kind of tamp the ground back in place and let mother nature do the rest over time to get the ground to settle. I did have to cross my driveway and really just shoved the wire in the expansion joint and shoved it down as far as I could. I just have to be conscience that I do not pierce the wiring when doing my edging. For my lot it took quite a bit of the 500 feet of included wire even though I consider it to be a pretty small lot. My dog has used wireless electric collars before so the training was not so difficult, but I did put out the included flags on the boundary line during training to make sure the boundary training went smoothly. The collar fit my dog nicely. As far as hooking up the boundary lines to the transmitter it was easy. I installed the plug-in wall unit in my garage and actually drilled a hole through a brick wall to get the boundary wire outside. I used caulk to seal off the hole with the wire to protect the weather and critters getting into my garage through the access hole. As I mentioned that since I have used wireless systems with my dog before the training was minimal and the system is working nicely.Country Man
We do not have a fence in our backyard and have to constantly leave our Poodle on a 30 foot leash when she runs around backyard. But I hate that she is even on a leash and can't run and live free. This fence is a perfect solution since we can not afford to install a proper yard fence. We set up the boundaries and it was easy to follow directions. I purchased the cat collar since she is a 8lb poodle this collar is much more soft and less bulky for her to wear daily. We put on vibration mode and she has been trained easily to remain in the property boundaries. I love the PetSafe Classic in ground fence. I highly recommend.Orlandomama

I have a pup that is a large breed, he looks like I been feeding him steak and potatoes cause he's so dang big. He is ALL puppy though. Chews on everything loves running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Been trying to train him to chill with me, yeah, right. He wants to play. And because he wants to play, he wants to run every stinkin where. Decided, for my sanity as well as his safety, I'd get this thing. Put the flags out, set it on a low static charge, and it didn't take long before he figured it out. You DO have to WORK a dog with this. It's not just a plug it up and watch their hair shoot up when they get popped. Walked him around the perimeter for 7 days, he sees and sniffs the flags. After that, I let him run around, and he got popped maybe 3 times, and figured it out. Now he's pretty dang happy, and I can let him rip around with zoomies while I work in the yard. He likes the freedom of being off leash in the yard, and like the fact that he's not road burger.SlimslowShady

I have a 2 yr old LARGE French Mastiff that weighs 180ish! I bought with the (red in color) “stubborn” collar. We previously installed a wired underground fence. (Which I have to mention took 2 FULL DAYS TO INSTALL AND READY TO USE!!) My Bo would realize he was close to the boundary, take a step or two back then take a run right through it, with no second thought!!! We watched him do this several times. I guess he was thinking, well this is going to hurt but only for a few short seconds. Idk?? But it did NOT phase him one bit! I had talked to 4 or 5 people that had this system, so reluctantly I decided to give it a try. I thought to myself well if it doesn’t work I will simply return it, no harm no foul. My boyfriend had it installed and collar on Bo in 30 mins flat. We walked ole hard-headed Bo around maybe 4 times to show him the boundaries. Once he heard the beeping, he kept walking then he felt the shock 1 time and that must have been enough because he never ventured close again! It has been about 2 months of use and I would give it 100 STARS IF IT WAS AN OPTION! We live in a subdivision where houses are fairly close. I was ultimately worried that the zone would lead into the neighboring yard. (which was the #1 thing we are trying to prevent) And although it may, Bo doesn’t even attempt to go that far. I believe he now understands to stay in his own yard! Living in a subdivision, many people take walks and Bo just sits and watches them now!! Matter of fact, just to see, we have sent him outside WITHOUT the collar and ironically enough HE STAYS IN OUR YARD!! The ONLY complaint I have is the small clear piece on the collar broke off the first time I went to adjust the strength of the shock. So far it hasn’t effected anything so fingers crossed on that! Just an FYI, we set ours on a level 3 to begin with and my boyfriend was ready to give up, so I told him to have some patience and we just kept adjusting the level on the collar and we ended up discovering for Bo he needed to be set on a #6. Again, I repeat he weighs 180 lbs, and the Mastiff bread is KNOWN for their stubbornness. I would suggest starting at the lowest level for a smaller dog PLEASE! But, if you are hesitant as myself, about this system just give it a try AND I PROMISE YOU WILL BE SO SURPRISED!!!!! I love this system, and just hope that it lasts!!!!!!Owner of French Mastiff

Uncoil and check wire before installing. Quality control problem – after digging and installing most of the wire, the last 20 or 30 feet at the end of the coil had breaks in the protective coating every few inches. As we needed the broken wire to finish the loop, every break had to be repaired with electrical tape adding a couple extra hours to finish the install – frustrating. was required.Dive
Set it up this weekend. Works as advertised. I would feel better rating it after more time but so far no issues.

I wanted to give it 5 stars so bad, but the batteries die pretty fast without warning. You need to keep at least one or two replacements on hand. I do love that it is wireless, that you can choose different ranges. But I had one dog that would escape no matter what. Portable wireless system sets up in 1-2 hours For dogs 8 lb. and up Fits neck sizes 6-28 in. Reviews:
I bought this as a last resort and man how i wish id bought it first. We have 3 dogs. 1 a very pigheaded pitbull ( 18 mo) that likes to test us at every turn. 1 German Shepard (4 mo) who is way to smart for anyone's good as she can open all our doors and gates. And 1 Cane Corso Doberman mix pup so far he's a good pup but he's only 7 weeks old. We have tried everything to keep the other two in ( 8 ft chain link. Hot wire. Adding an inward incline at the top. Burying the fence.) but they always found a way out. We installed this fence 3 days ago in about 2 hours and have already introduced the dogs to it. Our gsd is already steering well clear of it. Our pit on the other hand is being more stubborn about it his color is is set at max and he is still trying to run through tho he bring himself back inside the barrier very fast once he crosses it. So if you have smart stubborn hard to contain dogs. Just get it. You wont regret it.Womack02
I installed this system about 2 weeks ago and, have done some light training. I first tried the wireless system but, it had issues with coverage and dead spots in my yard. I have a miniature Daschund and I have found that she quickly learned the boundaries almost to the point of being gunshy of going out into the yard. Probably my fault. The other system zapped her a few times and, now I'm going to have to back off and work into it more slowly. We had a problem of her running off and paying absolutely no attention what so ever to our calls, scolding or going after her. Very frustrating, and dangerous to her going across the street not to mention also my wife and I get very tired having to go after her!!!!! At this point with only the audio she will NOT cross the boundary wire! Good for us and safer for her! Right now she has a problem with going out in the yard but, in time and as we work with her I'm sure she will regain her confidence. The system was fairly easy to install, took me about a day to do it right. Toughest part I had was going across the 24ft driveway, several years ago I put caulking in the expansion joints and it was pretty tough to clean it out. Had to go about 6" at a time. I did mine above ground and, I did opt for 14ga wire, the 20ga that came with the system was way to flimsy. My choice because I like to do things thoroughly with no problems when I'm done. Used almost 500ft of wire and about 160 yard Staples. Barely visible and I can mow over it with no problem. I think this system will do the job for what it is intended to do and way less expensive than having a fence put up. I didn't want to fence in my whole property at all. Just going to have to work more with the dog and, after awhile I'm sure she will feel at ease with going out in the yard. My wife and I will not have to worry about her running off and being injured when we are outside working or relaxing in our patio or deck. Pet Safe is what it means and what it will provide. My review is on the Basic In-Ground Fence System by Pet Safe. This in ground fence system worked great for our little dog. The directions are well written and easy to follow. They offer several options for installation, in ground, above ground, with a fence, and around your garden and the trees. They are thorough and easy to follow. After installing the unit, I tested it following the instructions, and everything was working. There are 5 levels of electric stimulus. The collars are fully adjustable for the shock level, and the controller adjusts the distance the collar starts to activate. The collar has a separate adjustment for the level of shock; 1-5. The wall controller adjusts the width of the zone, 2' wide to 10' wide. If your collar is one level 1 (low) and the width is at 10 (maximum), your dog will not get a shock, only a low level beep. You have to adjust the collar to 5 (high) to train the dog the first time. One or two zaps and the dog will learn to associate the warning beep with the zap. Then you adjust the shock level down to 2 or 3 for most dogs. I have read that dogs need a visual barrier, they won't remember the wire is buried, once they associate the visual barrier with the electric fence, they know it is there. I would recommend this in ground fence for your dogs to be able to run around the yard.Rose28

my Staffy was escaping and wandering around the neighbourhood. i was quite worried he was going to get taken by a passer by or worse, hit by a car, did some research and found Dogtra was a very reputable brand so decided to go the E Fence. was much easier to set up than i expected! did the training required, now my naughty little Staffy doesnt want to explore anymore… he is quite happy in his yard and wont go near the boundary
Put in the training as recommended and you can't go wrong! It has worked really well for my rescue Bull Arab x who had severe separation anxiety. I thought it may take much longer to train him but he learned quickly and was comfortable within 3 days. I didn't have to take the stimulation above 3. So happy with this product, but again, do the training and be patient with your pooch – he/she wants to be good and make you proud 🙂Lauren B.

This product is a blessing! My dog was an escape artist, but no more. He also is more into the family now, then trying to run and get out! He learned real quick where his boundries are and stays within them! I opened one of the side gates and tried to call him through it and he wanted no part of it, until I shut down the gate and then he came to me! The product works and recommened it to all my freinds!RadicalRick
This product will shock your animal inside! We have a 6 pound chihuahua who is now utterly confused. The collar picked up on the housing wiring and went off repeatedly before we could figure out what was going on. Maybe it's just our home, but we are really having to convince the puppy that it's okay to be inside.Dennis

Other dog tracking wireless systems offer a custom shape while this system is limited to round (from center point). Tracking dog can be tricking (guess) as it tracks from previous registered center point, not a show stopper but another limitation. This is the only system which offers a fence with auto-correction which is why we decided on this unit. Flags are a bit small, not working so well (white flags against white snow) red would have been a better color… Battery in main unit last only about 8 hours which is ok as its not required to be on for the collar to function. Certainly would prefer battery to last 12 hours.. *** you can edit your fence without going back to center point to increase or reduce size. If you go to a friends property you cannot create a second fence, so in affect you loose you original fence.. *** dog no longer leaves property, unit is high quality.Brian H.
The batteries do not last long enough. The collar battery past longer than the control. Control battery barely lasts 12 hours. I am disappointed with the function of the control. Not able to save multiple fences etc. The control will pick up radio signal from the collar over 1300 yards away through trees, which is nice. The collar does what it says, just a little disappointed for the money. I hope they are working on an updated version with better controls and longer battery life.greenphoenixfabrication

It's been working great! We ordered the high tech pet humane containment system, and our pupper has been staying home! It only took about a day for her to learn, and now we are looking forward to purchasing ad ons like the barrier pad and the pet door that locks when the dog is away from the door.Jjp1234
I would give zero if it was an option. The signal only works when the collar is touching the wire. It went through the test phase totally fine, and so I proceeded to bury 500 feet of wire, only for it not to work. SO DISAPPOINTED AND FRUSTRATED doesn’t even begin to explain how I’m feeling.Courtneymb

Reviews:
I have been using the premiere Pet for quite some time and it is truly an amazing quick fast action Wireless fence to help keep my three dogs in the yard without going over the boundaries. I love how it was very easy to install to use very easy instruction booklet love the circular boundary that covers up to about a half an acre, I love that the system itself is portable, this thing takes less than an hour to set up. My dogs were trained instantaneously from the first use. The flags and on the caller has a very low beeping sound and it really truly makes the dog not leave out of that boundaries and if the dog does then the beeping will continue to do it with the shocking until the dog comes back into its boundary area which is awesome. I have used it on all three of my dogs and they have learned they're lesson. The Durability, quality, value, and the ease of use are exceptional. I had a friend of mine over at the house to watch to see how it was done and how immediate effectiveness that this has on my dog and she bought it her dogs.Emeraldv
Pros: easy to use, works great, wireless fence, up to 90ft, easy to adjust settings, indoor setup Cons: none The Premier Pet Wireless Fence is really nice! It’s very easy to set up, use, and it works great. This package comes with everything you need to get started. The instructions on how to setup and use the transmitter, collar, and how to train your pet are very straightforward and easy to understand. The Transmitter needs to be set up indoors, 2 feet above the ground, and not close to any metal objects. Once you determine a good location that fits the criteria you can plug it in and test it, it says it’s possible that it may have to be moved multiple times to ensure you’ve got a good location but I didn’t have any issues picking a spot. It comes with a power adapter that you plug into the wall. Then you flip the power switch on, and it’s ready to go. You can select the boundary area that works best for you by a dial on the front of the unit. This fence allows you to go up to 90 feet, which is really nice, especially since you can take this fence on the go and use in different locations. Setting up the collar is easy. First you choose which contact points you need based on your pet’s hair length or thickness. You can easily swap out the contacts with a key that comes with the unit. The battery came pre-installed, so I did not need to add one in, but it’s also easy to add/remove. Next, you set up the static correction level. This is done by removing a small clear cover which allows access to a button, and then pressing the button to achieve different levels of correction. The blinking light allows you to see what level you’ve chosen. It’s very simple to choose which level you need and the blinking lights make it super convenient to tell. Then you add the cover back on. Next, you adjust your fence to the desired size. The unit comes with a test key making it very easy to determine the boundary. To test for the boundary lines, all you do is set the correction level to 2 or above, hold the test key on the ends of the contact points on the collar, and walk toward the boundary zones. There will be lights flashing and sound indicating that you are approaching the boundary. Then you determine where you want the boundary and adjust the dial accordingly. You can add flags into the ground where the edge of the boundary is so that you have a visual of the boundary guide. I did not run into any problems setting up my boundary and I love that this set comes with flags. Fitting the collar is very straightforward. Remove the battery, place the collar on so that the logo is facing out, and then center the contact points underneath the neck touching the skin, with a 1 fingers width of space between the contact points and the neck. The collar is easily adjustable and can be cut once you get the length you need. The clip on the collar makes it very easy to remove the collar when it’s not being used, which is really nice. Finally, the battery can be replaced in the pet collar, and the training can begin. The instructions detail what to do every day for 9-30 days, it will of course be dependent upon each pet. I found the training guide to be particularly helpful on how fast to move with my pet. I’ve been using this for over a week and we are progressing nicely. My dog is very aware of the boundary that has been set up. All in all, this is a very nice pet fence. It’s very easy and straightforward to set up. It works well, and the training guide is super helpful. I would absolutely recommend it!SeramaMana13
This Premier fence is great for helping teach dogs boundaries. This system is for dogs at least 8 pounds AND 6 months. The setup took us about an hour and a half, however when we were testing certain areas around the house lost the signal This was due to our aluminum siding. We adjusted the perimeter so we had no interference. The kit comes with everything you need to start training. We spent about two weeks training our pup to be sure she understood what it was all about the flags are a good visual for her to know she is getting close to the danger zone LOL! She noticed the beep and ignored it once she felt static she knew that was as far as she was going. We have not had to raise the static level above 2 and my husband and I both shocked each other with it and it's more of a startle than shock so I don't worry that it is hurting our pup. We feel good about being able to let her run around a large part of the yard safely. You can also take the kit with you and set it up.Faye1
