This is better than pricey vet shampoo! I say this because our 3 year old lab mix is sensitive to the season changes and with that being said he has quite a few hotspots throughout the year. We went to the vet the very first time it happened and received some allergy meds. Now they did work in the long run (we had to give them to him for about two weeks) but it didn’t necessarily help his skin—the itching, scratching, and biting. We have had Vetoquinol medicated shampoo in the past but it’s so expensive, anywhere from $25-$35 a bottle. So I did some research on medicated shampoos and came across this one. I was skeptic because it is on the cheaper end and you know how that sometimes goes haha. Needless to say I’ve never actually had a product cost less than half the price and do what a name brand does. It cleared up his skin in a few days (using it twice a week) until the spots were gone although he did get relief the very first time we bathed him in it; which is such a wonderful thing to witness when your dog is visibly struggling. Just please don’t stop making this product and carrying it Walmart!!! We depend on it!!! So sorry I don’t have before and after photos for you to see for yourself but just buy it, you will not be disappointed plus it will save you SO much money.
My dog has been having such problems with his skin, super itchy and has always been very sensitive. This stuff is AH-MAZE-ING! I have the wipes that we used for our cat. Previous to us owning him, he was abandoned and his collar was so tight that it caused scarring around his neck and all of his fur was gone. My dog suffers from hot spots on his feet and it makes him just miserable as one heals and another pops up in a different spot. My vet recommended I try a shampoo formulated specifically for hot spots and I found this at a major online retailer. A sixteen ounce bottle ran me about $7 as an add on item which I thought was quite economical since my dog is so small and that one bottle should last me through many, many washes. The formula uses Tea Tree Oil, Aloe Vera, Chamomile to calm dry, itchy skin and despite being a bit strong smelling during the bathing process the smell does not linger after drying. After the first bath with this I noticed a definite improvement in my dog's spots and he seemed more relaxed and less prone to lick the sore areas. After a month of weekly baths his spots were gone and they have not reappeared since. He also had a bit of a dandruff problem during the summer as he likes to sit outside and sunbathe which dries out his skin. Our German Shepherd has suffered from mold allergy since our recent move to FL. This resulted in stubborn fungal and yeast dermatitis that caused him extreme itchiness and discomfort as well as some hair loss. Ketochlor has been a key component of his specialist veterinarian-directed treatment program. With oral meds and an every 5 day bathing regimen, he has recovered and his skin and coat have returned to normal, but the vet dermatologist/allergist whom our dog sees has told us that it will be necessary to bathe with Ketochlor once a week indefinitely to prevent recurrance. The product is expensive but highly effective. It only works if the directions to leave the lather in for 20 mins are followed. Do not bathe in warm water or use a warm hair dryer and be sure to rinse very thoroughly afterwards. Leaves a nice scent. While our basset has never had any skin issues aside from occasional itchiness after bathing with other products, we would like to keep it that way. He has never seemed itchy or irritated after using these products. The scent of the conditioner is more potent than the subtle scent of the shampoo, but it's nice. It smells like vanilla cupcakes to me!
This product was recommended to me by Chewy. I used it on my Cocker Spaniel to treat severe fungal infections on her skin with lots of dandruff, sores, and hotspots with extreme itching. Used it 2x a week for about 3 weeks leaving it on her for 20 minutes before rinsing and followed by the Zymox conditioner, that i didn't rinse out. I noticed improvement right away. That was about 3 years ago. It worked really well and we haven't had that dandruff, sores, or smelly skin problems again. And now i just use it on her about 1x a month. I have a Rottweiler-mix who has excessively dry skin. Everytime I brushed her, all of this white dandruff would come to the surface. I tried numerous shampoos and nothing helped all that flaking. This shampoo not only removed all the scales and flakes, but it made her coat soft and shiny like a young dog's (my dog is 9). You only need a little and it goes a long way. Having read good reviews here and elsewhere, I was looking forward to using this on my dog, who has a sensitive skin type. I used it 2 days ago, and since then, he's been itching more than normal. It built up to such a point last night that he could not sleep poor little guy was constantly scratching and moving around the house to get away from the aggravating itch. I live near Philadelphia and sadly, its a 3.3hr drive each way to my nearest rural king. On a 15hr road trip to Ohio to buy a Siberian husky puppy, the locals at my hotel recommended Rural King. I did use the oatmeal and coconut brand. She smells good. Spread it out on the dog then rub in. It is harder if u put handful of soap on the puppy then try to spread it. I have a chocolate lab and for those of you that have a chocolate lab know how thick their fur/hair is and can be come the fall winter months. My poor girl is always scratching and itching. This is a good product I've used it many years. The shipping was quick. The interior packaging encased in a plastic bag was good. The exterior packaging needs to be stronger or the box stuffed with paper or styrofoam to keep the box from being crushed. Luckily the contents were not damaged. But I do recommend this company and product.
