Our boy cat Steven is mean to our other cats. He’ll stalk them and when they aren’t expecting it, he’ll attack them from behind, digging into their skin in their backsides with his claws and teeth. Occasionally Steven also walks around the house meowing incessantly. We really hoped this collar would help. Out of the package, it smells a little like lavender so I was pleased that the scent wasn’t obnoxious. I put it on Steven, who weighs around 14 pounds. The collar was too big but I was able to easily cut off about 3 inches so it would fit. I made the size so it was snug but so I could fit two fingers between his neck and the collar. After 5 days the collar disappeared. Steven is an indoor cat so it’s a mystery where it went. His regular collar stayed on though. During the five days he was able to wear it, I didn’t note any change in his annoying behaviors. Overall this collar was a bust.Kengreen51

So, I got this collar for my cat. I thought it would help calm. He gets excited when someone comes home after he has been home all day alone, which is understandable. I really wanted it to work. The description sounded very encouraging. Well, it didn’t work for my cat. To be fair, part of the reason it didn’t work was because my cat couldn’t stand the collar on him. It wouldn’t stop messing with it and trying to get it off of him. I left it on for about 5-7 minutes. If cats could talk, I think my cat would have said those were the longest 5-7 minutes ever. The reason I gave it 3 stars is because I can’t really say one way or the other. Based on my experience, don’t get the collar of your cat isn’t used to collars. It did not calm my down at all. I wasn't sure what to do about traveling with my 2 year old cat. I travel to my mom's to spend time with her and have always brought my cat with me. When she was young it wasn't a problem but lately she has gotten more and more terrified of the whole process. I decided to give the Sentry Calming Collar a try before I contacted a vet. It worked wonderfully! I was able to put it on her the morning we were leaving so she would get used to having it around her neck. My daughter uses these in her anxious little Jack Russel Staffy X and they work a treat! I also use the feline version on my dominant, bully beefer male cat and they chill him right down. Sadly they didnt seem to have a major effect on my highly strung little female dog but she could well be the one in 100 exception as shes a very busy Italian greyhound, kelpie cross with her own agenda! So, while they didnt work for me I still think theyre a relatively inexpensive product and worth a try!cheznschaffe

I use these collars with my very anxious dog in conjunction with alternative treatments (accupuncture and special music) and medications. I notice a definite difference in her anxiety level when she is wearing the good behavior pheromone collar and can always tell when it is time to change the collar as her anxiety level increases. I have a 4 year old Lab/Papillion dog & when anyone comes over he jumps on them! He is so excited to see people. Nothing I've tried worked on him to stop jumping. Especially on the Grandchildren. With this collar he is so much calmer. He still gets excited when anyone comes over or tells him how cute he is when we are out for a walk. But he calms down shortly after his encounter with new people. I LOVE this collar!! My dog was a bit afraid of things like skateboards and public transport and also didn't want to go with any dog sitter I brought to her. A dog trainer recommended this collar to help reduce her anxiety. Soon after putting it on my dog refused to leave my apartment to go for walks. It got worse during the next few days. The dog trainer told me to remove it and some calming pills for now because maybe there was some intolerance. I slowly got my happy dog back. I adopted a very nervous and scared adult dog who constantly scratched and bit herself. I took her to the vet who declared her physically healthy and recommended calming dog biscuits or Benadryl on days she was especially nervous. There was little improvement I saw comments on rescue dog social media sites about using Adaptil as an alternative to what I had been doing. I tried Adaptil and within less than a week I saw a marked difference. She is calmer now, no habitual scratching or biting, settles down peacefully during naps, and is a much happier dog. I will continue to use Adaptil for as long as she needs it as a safe and constant alterative method of keeping her on pills or calming chews. My dog is anxious about trailers and other dogs on our walks. Worked very well for 2 weeks then lost its potency. It is very expensive for only lasting 2 weeks. I have bought the spray and apply it to the dog's harness prior to our walk and it works very well. This will be a better option for me and far cheaperNicky

After a harrowing drive in a rainstorm- my poor doggy gave me the most stressed out face I had ever seen – so I pulled into Petco heading straight for the pheromones- Holy Moley – within 20 minutes he was a different dog. I bought this thinking it would be something to use when we get company or workers that come to the house. Our dog has anxiety and barking at these times. My dog is terrified of thunder, rainstorms, and loud noises. He only became that way the last couple of years. We tried everything. This seems to help a little and he does not pant as much. My dog has anxiety about everything. He's afraid of the usual but he also is scared of mundane things like birds chirping outside, our microwave beeping, etc. When he gets anxious he does self harming behavior. He'll lick and chew at his skin until it's raw, he'll climb on things that are too high for him and hurt himself, and he will literally making himself sick with vomiting and diarrhea. We have tried everything including medication and nothing worked. I bought this as a last ditch effort and couldn't be more amazed. Newly adopted very stressed pup. I purchased three Thunder items, one of which was a bottle of the Calming Chews. Tried the Chews several times over the course of a week and a half in different situations. Sorry but found each time that there was no change in my dog's reactivity level – and on one occasion the Chew seemed to make him more stressed. So my 6mos. old pup is super hyper at night running around my apartment. He just have this excitement and energy at night when i come home from work. Also before going to sleep we still have to wrestle on my bed for a good hour or so. He just have that so much energy probably because im out all day. Hes over 50 pounds and I gave him about 12 in 24 hours and they did absolutely nothing to stop his barking while in his den. He acts very alpha and this does nothing to prevent that. Not buying another bottle since not even double or triple the dose works.Doglivesmatter

First time I fitted it the after buckle retaining strap broke causing the collar to keep slipping. The smell is a little nauseating and gave my wife a headache. However the collar did seem to calm my dog and make her a little less stressed on car journeys.johnpamhorne

This is a total waste of money! Did not work at all, not even slightly. Read reviews about the smell and thought it cant be that bad but believe me it is awful. I really wanted it to work but made no difference and could not put up with smell. When you touch your dog the smell transfers to yourself! Not good! This is v.hard to review as it is decidedly mixed in it effects. I bought it to help my dog – a male collie/springer cross 2-1/2 years old – cope with the fireworks at this time of year but I'm not sure if it did. He was still visibly scared by the miscellaneous bangs that surrounded our Stoke on Trent home for the last three weeks and would not go outside after dark until midnight or so when all was calm again. On the other hand he has been much less excitable when visitors come to the door or when meeting people outside. I don't know whether to recommend this collar to others because I'm not sure the results are quite predictable enough but if you only want it to make your dog less excitable it might be worth trying. It also seems to make my dog less obedient – as if he is less concerned about my disapproval. As I said hard to review.bouncingsteve

Our lab/retriever cross became frightened of loud noises, using the collar has steadily improved the situation. It doesn't work immediately, be patient for a week or even two. A noise de-sensitisation CD (follow the instructions exactly) will also help considerably. Just check the tightness of the collar every few days because some dogs will scratch at it and can occasionally loosen it slightly – when cutting off the excess length leave an inch so that it doesn't fall off if the dog does scratch at it (they soon stop).Nicholas J

Very pleased with this product and seems to have calmed my anxious dog prior to Bonfire night. My only niggle is that the small collar was too small for my dog but the large is too big. Our 16 year old terrier became terrified of the car about a year ago – hyperventilating, fighting to get out – heartbreaking and we couldn't take her any further than our dogminders so we could go out on business. We bought the Adaptil collar about 3 weeks ago and she is far less frightened. Sits fairly comfortably without 'twitching' and doesn't fight to get out when the door is opened. I just ordered another Large-Extra Large Caring Collar with Calming Disk from Pet Guys, my second Caring Collar for my 8-month German Shepherd to protect her surgery (spay) yesterday. The first collar, I used for my 2-year-4-month-old German Shepherd was when she was spayed at 10 months old. GSDs are usually very strong dogs that tend to struggle with anything put around their necks or mouths. But Caring Collar makes it easier and diminishes such struggle when putting the Caring Collar on and off around the dog's neck, unlike the plastic e-collar, which to me was so difficult and a great struggle. When I used the plastic e-collar on my first GSD at 10 months old, she banged the e-collar against her crate, managed to partially get it off and chewed it. It took a lot of sweat and difficult time for me to mend it and put it back on her neck. So, I had to go back to the pet shop to buy a new one, until I saw Caring Collar. My dog recently had surgery on his paw and he unfortunately kept licking his surgery spot. We went to Petsmart to look at cones and they had the plastic ones that looked so uncomfortable and this. This was pretty pricey but opted to go with it for the comfort etc. Although he hated it it served its purpose! He could still lay down, eat and drink with it on. The only bad thing is its still bulky so he cleared off under the coffee table but it was ok. I do recommend this product! 🐶angela.s

My dogs were sniffing the floor constantly. With everyone home under the stay-at-home order, their routines were thrown off. This calming diffuser has helped them stop sniffing the floor and they are calmer with everyone home. When the fireworks began by 6 p.m., she jump on me and lay down. When a firework was bursting, she looked at me, I just said that it was doing fine and after 3 fireworks, she just fell asleep on me and didn't worry about the fireworks for the rest of the night. On the morning I kept the collar away and she still fill quiet. I let her wear it the other nights and she didn't care about the fireworks. By the end of the day he was literally a different dog. He was playful, doesn't shake when I pick him up, just all around happier. I was amazed at how much it helped him. It's been about 2 weeks and he still seems to be very much improved. The collar has a pretty strong scent at first that I found very pleasing. But the twenty years I have been in animal rescue, I have seen the difference with my own eyes and simply could not believe it. I have had up to five extremely bad anxiety cases at the same time, I have never been able to afford the Thundershirts but am working on it. In the meantime, I have bought the plug ins, WITH the collars, the treats etc, and hit it with both fists. I can tell you that those are the only nights I got any sleep. I still have three. It is too hot here in Texas anyway, to utilize a coat they have to wear all of the time anyway, so, these items can work on most dogs. For the others they need long years of love and encouragement. If from rescue they have usually just been shoved aside. At the least. Some places recommend just act normal. That does not work. So, keep trying these products even if you have to also go to drugs. Adopted a black mouth cur from the shelter. Escape artist, separation anxiety to the maximum. First time I put the shirt on her, I left her in the car while I ran into the store (no, it wasn't hot out! and I wasn't long. but I'd be wondering the same, reading the above!) I recently adopted 2 retired greyhounds and noticed my female would hide and pant before and during rainstorms. I bought these just a few weeks before July 4th since the firecrackers were already starting to explode in our neighborhood and my male grey refused to walk after hearing pops and getting spooked. I got 2 in XL: one in Camo with orange stripes and the sport in platinum which has a quilted weave and feels thicker so I could see if they had any preference since they both fit on either dog (they like them both). Just followed the directions for wrapping the shirts and it seemed to instantly calm my girl down to the point where she doesn’t want to take it off though eventually she lets me. I’m not sure it helps my male so much since it’s gotten so hot out that I won’t add an extra layer on them in this heat and cause them to have heat stroke but I put it on them during stormy weather and they both really like wearing the shirts which surprised me so I think he likes it too. My "little" guy has a life long issue with loud noises that began about eight years ago when he was eleven weeks old and we ventured out in between thunder showers with his mom and dad. Suddenly a stray lightning bolt hit missed us by only a few yards and the accompanying explosive noise terrified my three dogs and myself. The dogs went howling into the house and you can imagine the impact that experience had on a very young pup. I did everything I could think of to acclimate Yulee to sudden loud noises but nothing seemed to work as well as the ThunderShirt we purchased on the Amazon site. He's not as frightened of approaching thunder boomers as he is by gun fire or fireworks probably because he can gradually get into a more relaxed state with advancing storms. Now we also have time to prepare him for the thunder claps and we're relieved that he apparently finds the ThunderShirt comforting. He also likes to have time to curl up in secluded spot where he probably doesn't feel as exposed to any inherent danger – (see the third image). You can tell he's starting to feel threatened in the middle shot where his tail is tucked under his rear and the noise from today's thunderstorms is getting increasingly louder. The only reason the ThunderShirt didn't earn 5 stars from me is that at a svelte145 pounds Yulee was squeezed too much for our liking by the largest size (XXL) offered. We wrapped him in it without over tightening the material to make it uncomfortable while still affording him the gentle pressure and protective aspect of security. The fabric of the ThunderShirt Sport is a lightweight polyester which I felt might be lighter and more breathable than the other models with a poly, spandex and rayon blend. With all the fur this guy has he doesn't need any additional warmth. The shirt is extremely well constructed with ample velcro closure tabs which do a great job for getting the ultimate fit required…if only he was a bit smaller…Vic

I purchased the ThunderShirt for my dog's anxiety over fireworks. I tried to get my dog accustomed to it before putting it on her as the instructions stated but she ran away every time even when it was paired with treats and I was just holding it up. Despite this, I put the ThunderShirt on her the night of the 4th of July fireworks. I also added the calming spray to the area on the shirt as indicated. She was very anxious the whole night. However, the next night I put the shirt on her again and she calmed down quickly despite neighbors setting off fireworks. This was repeated the next night as well. We have not needed to use it since then but will use it when thunderstorms are predicted and when she needs to go in the car to see if that will help with her car sickness. Ever since we got our dog, I dread going to parties at my parents' house. She would bark and growl at EVERYONE who came near us. She has separation anxiety, so putting her in her kennel in another room would cause her to howl and yelp. We have been working on her separation anxiety, but we thought we would give this a try at a Super Bowl party to see if it would make any difference. IT DID. We slid the disk on her collar in the morning (which doesn't smell too bad, it's a bit like a lavender-scented candle) and showed up to the party in the afternoon. Although our dog still barked a few times (because she is still a dog), friends and family could talk to us and even pet her without her growling or snapping. Ever since we got our dog, I dread going to parties at my parents' house. She would bark and growl at EVERYONE who came near us. She has separation anxiety, so putting her in her kennel in another room would cause her to howl and yelp. We have been working on her separation anxiety, but we thought we would give this a try at a Super Bowl party to see if it would make any difference. IT DID. We slid the disk on her collar in the morning (which doesn't smell too bad, it's a bit like a lavender-scented candle) and showed up to the party in the afternoon. Although our dog still barked a few times (because she is still a dog), friends and family could talk to us and even pet her without her growling or snapping. I am VERY happy with this product and will continue to use it. For now, it's in a Ziploc bag until it's needed again! It may become a supplement in her separation anxiety training, but we'll see.A.

I feel it worked on my cat. I just got a stay cat. Hes bot neutered, so hes bouncing off the walls because of his hormones surge. After I put the disk on, I noticed he was still going crazy, but it was milder.K.

My golden really stresses out during long car rides. To my surprise it really worked during a recent eight hour trip. She was very relaxed but still alert for two brief walks.Michael S

I bought this collar for my 2 cats. I cut it in half and voila…2 collars for the price of one. Both of my cats are high strung and suffer from anxiety and agression towards each other. This collar calms them…they are sleeping within a couple of feet from each other as I type. This never happens. I highly recommend this for any dog or cat with OCD, obsessive grooming, anxiety or stress. CONS: If it's too tight it will cause a rash around the neck so be attentive to any scratching and check often for agitation. This is not a breakaway collar so may not be good for an extremely active or hyper pet and definitely not recommended for any outdoor pets.jfaber77
