Wish it came in a larger diameter, but I think the 38 will work for now. The puppy will only be about 4 pounds when I get her but will grow to be 8-10 pounds, so the pen should give her enough room to play until she is trained. I also like that it has a zippered top that can be taken off while inside or zipped on if outside because she is small enough to become prey to hawk, owls, or coyotes. Also like the pockets, the tote bag, and the fact that it is so light weight.
I purchased the play pen for my 10 week old chihuahua. I am pleased that it gives him plenty of space for a bed, a potty pad, a wooden table for food and water, and still plenty of space for him to play with toys. I am using the play pen when I need to be gone for any amount of time. I also purchased a crate at our local store for him to use at night. He seems to like being in the play pen. I know my cat appreciates having the house to herself when he is in it. The two are still working on sharing a home and myself. They are doing well considering it has only been 10 days. I feel that any breed that is bigger then a toy/miniature would be better in a bigger,sturdier enclosure. I think that this would also work for cats/kittens while house training. I am looking forward to fall and being able to move it back and forth from inside and outside. It will provide a safe place so he is able to enjoy spending time outdoors and getting fresh air. I bought the pink one for my 3 month old American cocker spaniel and it was definitely not a good choice. It's cute and the color is nice but it's too easy for the sides to cave in and if your dog or cat is super crazy, they can actually move this around the floor like a hamster ball. This is probably fine for small, inactive puppies, dogs, kittens or cats. It's spacious enough for a sedentary furry friend. My hyperactive little terror sunk her teeth into the mesh sides and started pulling it apart. She also figured out how to unzip it. I would not recommend it.kejean12

Good quality for an excellent price. This is very well constructed and is surprisingly easily handled by one person. The entire pen is secured with two included hooks and then can be configured to any shape necessary. This size should provide adequate space for small dogs to enjoy for quite play. The height of this particular size may be overkill for small dogs unless they are agile jumpers. I ordered this for my greyhound for leisurely sunning without needing a leash. The height is adequate but the interior space is just enough for her outdoor bed and her body. I will order another two to provide more area for investigating the outdoors next spring.Sharon
I use these pens for my angora rabbits. They are a larger breed and some of them will jump over the other pens with little effort. I really like the door and the child proof hook. I like Midwest products as the metal seems to be stronger and last longer than other brands. I have the original ex-pen I bought around 1995 – it's survived 50+ large dogs. I prefer them to crates as the dogs have more room to move around, yet they are easily configured to a smaller shape when potty training. They easier to clean than crates. They fold flat and I can store them next to a fridge or behind a furnace. They work indoors/out and are great mobile containment. For dogs living in fenceless areas (condos) ex-pens can be linked using carabiners/bolt snaps (i.e., dog leash clips) for fencing moveable for mowing/snow removal. They are great for patio surrounds. You can buy metal tops for if a dog needs more containment, but most won't if using a tall enough ex-pen. I've also bought just the metal or plastic crate pans to put under the ex-pen if needed. The quality is top-notch, with plenty of clear and illustrated instructions that are really not even necessary as it's so simple to set up. My one and only quibble is that the box opened nearly the full length of the side during shipping. I think the packing tape gave way. All parts were intact and nothing was damaged so just FYI. I'm now going to buy another one of these for the back yard. do NOT use for kittens. i brought one for my kitten and he's now known as the escaping. he climbed and jumped over the gate. when i fixed that, he twisted his head and got through one of the holes. i fixed that as well and he's still somehow getting out. if you are wondering how i "fixed" that, i used mesh wiring. this product probably works great with dogs, but cats are a different story.uzziah

Reason for purchase is becuase I will be out of state for the summer and the person whom will be babysitting doesnt want her on the sofa and using the bathroom on the floor. It's a good size, but the instruction that came with it wasn't helpful at all. I ended using zip ties to secure the fence section alongside the door latch. The rubber rolls that came with it were quite useless. My pup could easily get them off. I recommend you purchase the life touch one instead.K

Love that’s it’s washable. I got the medium and it’s a great size. Good for in and out doors. I know some said for indoors the dogs would flip it. Which I have a 4lb puppy that does just that. But I zip the top and she uses it like a hamster ball to get around. It’s actually quite entertaining for us lol. Out of the box the pen is very easy to put together in just minutes. It has little bolts that keep the sides together. They lock in place tightly and keep the cage very sturdy in the plastic brown base. Once the bolts are in you can remove the wire cage from the plastic base and it can be folded flat. What’s nice is that you could just take the metal cage without the base floor outside to make a little penned in area if you wanted your dog to spend a short amount of time with you outside. Also, if you need to clean the base, you don’t have to crawl in there yourself; you simply lift off the wire part and set it aside. The cage is sturdy, spacious and easy to put together. My complaint is that they call it a wood look in their description. The wire is white and the base is just a plastic beige color. The only thing that is wood looking is on the top and the bottom of the wire cage. The slats look like a light wood if you look closely. It is not a very prominent feature of the cage so it’s a little misleading, in my opinion. I would’ve preferred darker colors personally so it didn’t stand out so much and didn’t show dirt or spills as easily as it does. I've been trying to find something for my indoor rabbits instead of several cages so they have more room to run and play when there not out of there cage for free time and I've absolutely found the perfect cage! My rabbits are so much happier since I received this o had to do a little bit of adjusting due to the play pen being a little flimsy meaning easy to tip over but all I did was insert a few screws into the bottom screwing it to my floor and BOOM perfect! It's completely stable now and it gives my indoor rabbits so much room to run when there caged now I only use my cages when one has a litter or needs sperated from the others I recently had to add an old crib bumper pad to the bottom because I added the new litters of baby bunnies inside the play pen and found out they fit through the little squares lol once there a little bigger I can remove that even! I've seen alot of people are using these for large dogs and getting upset because they can climb out well of course they can I definitely don't recommend this for large dogs or small dogs because of the design they can crawl right up the lines in the play pen and escape but for me this is perfect for all of my rabbits and plenty room for how quickly they multiply which I wasn't aware of lol but surely am now!Dmosser172
I was so disappointed when I got this fence. I was really excited about it but when it actually came it was a let down. It’s nice and y’all and provides a decent amount of space for your furry friend but it’s not sturdy at all, when I say sturdy I don’t mean the pieces themselves. They’re made of a nice heavy plastic. It’s when they’re all together to be used, it’s super wobbly and can easily be knocked over if a dog jumped on it. I’m almost positive even my cats could easily knock it over, if put inside it.Amitch

I have bought innumerable similar wire-panel pens over the years from Petco and other sellers, but I have never seen one made of such small-gauge wire. Once you or your dog pushes even a bit against a panel, it warps too easily. Then the gate is hard to line up to close. Also, better quality products have a long rod that can be removed to rearrange the panels and change the location of the gated piece. Not these, there is not even a metal clasp between panels like in the product pictures, just interlocked end loops of the panel wire that can't be undone or changed.35Brian56

I love everything about this dog pen, except that one of the panels was missing the upper hinge. I did not want the hassle and wastefulness of returning the entire large and heavy item. I tried to see if I could just get a single replacement panel, but I don't know how to do that. I guess I will just keep it and only use 7 of the panels *Sigh* (If anyone can get a single panel replacement – please let me know!) The raised gate is perfect for not rubbing on the floor and scratching it up. the panels are not too heavy I could construct the pen easily. If I could give zero stars I would. It has rusted so badly HUGE FLAKES fall off of it. Not only is it now unattractive I worry about the health of my dog. I have used this to host puppy playdates over 2 years. Cannot be happier with purchase. My front yard is not completely fenced; There was a need to fence off, but not permanently as we use front yard for other purposes. Fences are flexible, can be set up in any figures as needed. Once I figure out where to put fences, it takes 10 mins to set up, 10 mins to take down. I initially bought 2 sets, and neighbors and friends praised, and we had so many puppy visitors. That led me to buy 1 more set so the playpen could be bigger. Despite I have 3x sets, once taken down, they store nicely in small tight space on the side of house. Each set comes with 1 panel with a door. Since I have 3x sets, I have 3x panels with door. I set up door fences on three sides of yard for convenience. Summer days, we had playpen every evening. Throughout year, we hosted playpen for every possible occasions; puppy birthday, anniversary, holidays, new puppy debut… We initially worried that some dogs might jump out and run away, but that never happened. Dogs are capable, but wanted to stay inside for fun. We actually had dogs jump in. If you need to just hold puppies around 1 – 3 months, you could buy 1 set. But, if you are planning any meaningful puppy playdate, you will need minimum 2 sets, most likely 3or 4. My wife and I purchased this affordable product as a way to curtail a new litter of kittens before they became active and began exploring their new world. The package arrived quickly and essentially there was no assembly required. The only minor modification we had to undertake was adding a six inch piece of cardboard to the bottom by using tie-wraps to prevent the small kittens from sticking their heads through the 4” gaps of the fencing. I really wished that it had a door, but other than that it serves its purpose! I used it as a sort of gate for the driveway to keep my dog from going out when we were in the front yard. Easy to fold and move around. It is very flimsy. If my puppy jumped on it while it was set up in the house, she would be able to push it around the living room. She might even hurt herself by jumping on something that would not support her weight. The door is not sturdy and would not even open all the way. There are 5 different ways you can make this work for you and it's so easy to change pen from around setting to a square set up. They give you a pamphlet that shows you different ways you can set this exercise pen up. It's so easy. it is so convenient when you have to take kids to school to pop puppy in pen with their bed and a piddle pad they can play or take a nap while you're busy running errands and you know when you get home puppy will be safe and secure in their pen. you really need this exercise pen if you are committed to taking care of a puppy you won't be sorry. This is a smartly designed enclosure with endless possibilities. I use the pen every day to either keep my dogs on my deck, or off my deck and in the yard, or contain them to one section of the deck. I also have used it in my chicken run to keep certain birds away from others. I love that it has an option of attaching panels directly to a dog crate. It is strong, yet lightweight and easy to maneuver. This gate is the perfect height to keep my dogs from jumping over. It would not be ideal for certain undisciplined or high jumping dogs.JennyWren
