I currently own 2 doggy door slider inserts from a competitor brand. I got this PetSafe insert to replace one of my inserts that is worn out, and I am so glad I did! At first glance you can see that the PetSafe is far superior to my competitor door. Upon quick exploration, I could feel that the PetSafe door was much better quality. The PetSafe door itself is more substantial and heavy duty just off the bat. I like that spring-loaded panel at the top of the door is taller (than my competitor brand) so that it can accommodate more sizes of sliders. I have multiple different heights of sliders at my house so that gives me more options of doors for me to place the insert in. This is beneficial to me when I have a party for example because I can give my dogs indoor/outdoor access to a secluded part of my house when young children are over. The second part I really like is the extra security with the locking panel to close the doggy door. Whereas my competitor version only has a plastic lock that could easily be broken into by potential intruders, the PetSafe has a very secure metal pin lock. Third, I appreciate that this insert has a slight tint to it. My competitor version does not. When I open the doggy door in the early morning in my bedroom I "hook" my curtains around my original slider handle for my dogs to access the door and I go back to sleep. The tinting on this insert is at least some attempt to block out the daylight. Finally, I like that they include some weather striping to help combat some unwanted drafts. Although I would recommend to combo the weather stripping provided with foam weather stripping to really complete the seal. I'm giving it three stars because it is working but for the price, I expected a higher-quality item. In some ways this unit is too thin for my patio door track and is floppy, and in other ways – specifically the attachment brackets and the door "latch" – it is too wide. I had to come up with another way to fix the panel in place, then insert foam tape because it kept flapping when the door was used or the wind blew too hard, and then buy separate security bars for the patio door. Not ideal. And I also plan that I will need to remove it if I leave for an extended period of time, as this thing is a serious security vulnerability in the home's perimeter now…not that most adults don't already fit through an extra large pet door opening. I wish this had a full closure panel – aluminum, hinged. Maybe I should have just made something custom since I can't cut a hole in the wall of my rental house for an electronic security dog door.Julie D

I am in the middle of having a sliding glass door installation, and even though it isn’t quite done (trim work etc.) I was able to pull down the tension part on the PetSafe door and slip it in the track. The tension alone held it securely. I was able to easily slip it back down and take it out when they needed to work more. Obi, my mini schnauzer, was hesitant, but I am taping the flap up and using treats and he runs in and out the open flap. He is a smarty pants, and will get the flap soon. The door is well made and easy to install. we bought the large bronze. Only problem we have is that we have 3 dogs and one is a pug, other two are big 80lb even though rated for 100lb dogs and I measured them, for out dogs was a little short., I fixed by adding a small block under raising it an inch. but the 4-5' rise really does work for small dog. The XL version may have been better. But only came in white and more expensive. Been a couple weeks now and the bigger dogs are doing great. Pug, we open the slider for him. Overall well made and works well. Just a matter of getting sized right. May not work as well when you have a mix of small and large dogs.RichardJ

Using this in the sliding screen door that goes out to our screened porch. Kitty loves it! The install was a little tricky only because of the fact that it was a door we installed it on and not an easily removable one. I doubt the longevity a little bit, because it seems like I may need to add a little tape to seal it better or something. My senior Calicos are sky walkers. The screen door is well made of sturdy materials. It is necessary to put some form of backing material to keep the door in place. If the door is affixed to the screen only, one false move and the dog will tear it out. I mounted a wire scratch proof mesh across the lower half of the screen door, and fastened the pet door to the mesh, after making a cutout. Works swimmingly. My first one lasted for several years this way.

But not together at the same time…let me finish. So I have a wonderful rotund cat but I don't let her out, so no go for her. However, If you have a portable A/C and need a way to expunge the hot air though a sliding glass door, here you go. Just put the robot arm through and you're good. The only other thing I added was weather stripping on both sides, so I'd have some padding between the door and frame. Have had this door for 3 years and it's still going strong. was easy to install, but I have to replace the seal strip every year or so. First off, I bought the medium sized door (11×8), which is claimed to be for medium pets weighing up to 35 pounds. There would be no way a pet weighing that much could fit through the door. This size door is more for small pets (cats, which I have that weigh 10 to 15 pounds). So I made the right choice by going bigger. It's the perfect size for them, and they get through the door comfortably. A small door would have been a tight squeeze. I installed this pet door against the patio door that doesn't slide. That was the only way that made sense, and would also provide some form of security. Installing this against the sliding door would not work, would not seal, and would not lock. Buy yourself some extra weather stripping (the soft stuff). The hard weather stripping provided with this door is useless. Be prepared to improvise and buy extra hardware to actually make this door fit securely and work with the patio doors. My extra expenses were $35. All in all, I'd recommend the door, but be prepared to do a fair amount of work to make it fit securely. But still this is not buglar proof. Excellent opening size for our pet who is 18 lbs. I purchased the Medium opening. Our sliding door is a custom height of 12 FT, not a normal height, so using the extension included with the patio panel still doesn’t reach the top of the sliding door, which of course is not the problem of the manufacturer of this product. We remedied the problem by using and cutting to size a disposable hard foam cooler, fitted with a foam edge window and door sealer in order to eliminate cool and hot air from coming in and out. It’s not perfect, but works for our pet and for our use.Grace
I currently own 2 doggy door slider inserts from a competitor brand. I got this PetSafe insert to replace one of my inserts that is worn out, and I am so glad I did! At first glance you can see that the PetSafe is far superior to my competitor door. Upon quick exploration, I could feel that the PetSafe door was much better quality. The PetSafe door itself is more substantial and heavy duty just off the bat. I like that spring-loaded panel at the top of the door is taller (than my competitor brand) so that it can accommodate more sizes of sliders. I have multiple different heights of sliders at my house so that gives me more options of doors for me to place the insert in. This is beneficial to me when I have a party for example because I can give my dogs indoor/outdoor access to a secluded part of my house when young children are over. The second part I really like is the extra security with the locking panel to close the doggy door. Whereas my competitor version only has a plastic lock that could easily be broken into by potential intruders, the PetSafe has a very secure metal pin lock. Third, I appreciate that this insert has a slight tint to it. My competitor version does not. When I open the doggy door in the early morning in my bedroom I "hook" my curtains around my original slider handle for my dogs to access the door and I go back to sleep. The tinting on this insert is at least some attempt to block out the daylight. Finally, I like that they include some weather striping to help combat some unwanted drafts. Although I would recommend to combo the weather stripping provided with foam weather stripping to really complete the seal. I'm giving it three stars because it is working but for the price, I expected a higher-quality item. In some ways this unit is too thin for my patio door track and is floppy, and in other ways – specifically the attachment brackets and the door "latch" – it is too wide. I had to come up with another way to fix the panel in place, then insert foam tape because it kept flapping when the door was used or the wind blew too hard, and then buy separate security bars for the patio door. Not ideal. And I also plan that I will need to remove it if I leave for an extended period of time, as this thing is a serious security vulnerability in the home's perimeter now…not that most adults don't already fit through an extra large pet door opening. I wish this had a full closure panel – aluminum, hinged. Maybe I should have just made something custom since I can't cut a hole in the wall of my rental house for an electronic security dog door.Julie D

I bought this a couple weeks ago, and immediately had trouble. For some reason the collar was not easily recognized by the door to open for my dog. I'd done a lot of research on electronic pet doors and was disappointed. I e-mailed customer service, especially since the collar stopped working altogether 9 hours later. Within 24 hours the CEO of the company responded to my e-mail and they sent a replacement collar within the next few days. This new one works great, and it was really great to know the company was responsive to issues to this expensive item. I think the collar was a dud and an anomaly, but would definitely recommend this door to others willing to make an investment. The cons are the high price (I bought when there was a sale online) and like most patio/sliding glass dog doors, it blocks the built-in lock from the door to the wall. The door comes with an alternative lock, that can be drilled into the door, but it didn't fit mine. I think we will just use wooden dewars to block the sliding door in. We had been looking for an alternative to cutting a hole in our wall and this is perfect. It installs easily into our track and the weatherstripping worked great to fill any gaps. Only downside is it takes up half your entry space to go in and out. Not a problem for us but if you have large individuals that need to go in and out it could be a problem. We had a door at our other house so it only took a couple days for our dogs to get use to the sound of the flap on this one. Other doors wouldn't stay closed in the wind but the Endura Flap prevailed! Now I've moved to Alaska and didn't have a window that would work as a dog door so I bought the sliding glass door model. Just like it's window option, this dog door is top notch. I was using some other brand of sliding door dog door and it was letting so much cold air into the lower level of my house that I avoided going down there, which was annoying since half of the house is down there. Purchased medium opening for16# Schnauzer and use in SW Colorado. The initial install was just as easy as advertised and adjustments were done in less than 30 minutes in the door track. Then my wife noticed the patio screen door track was close to the same width s the Patio Pacific. I quickly relocated the Patio Pacific to the screen track and we had two additional benefits – we could still use the screen for our comfort AND completely close and lock the sider using the door lock. I purchased the Endura Flap – Quick Panel III Patio Pet Door – Extra Large in Bronze. I have a Shepherd and an Australian Cattle dog. The large would have been fine, but my Shepherd is an old man, and I wanted it to be as easy as possible on him. They were accustom in using their nose to open the flap with their old doggie door (home made, by me), but this one took more energy and strength and they were not sure about using it. After reading the advice of taping down the metal thresh bar, which help reduce the magnetic hold, that helped a lot. They only had a few days to get use to it before my leaving on a 2 week trip, but they did fine and I kept the tape on. When my next trip came up two months later, I put the door back up in the track and I took the tape off, and they didn't have any trouble at all. Even my older cat likes to use it. In fact he was the first one to open up the flap before I put the tape down. Are we speaking "Intelligence" here? My younger cat, 1 yr old, doesn't even attempt using it, which is fine with me. The door is very easy to put up. I'm a 68 year old female, and did it myself. It matches my bronze sliding door, and I'm very pleased with how it looks. I don't keep mine up all the time, although I could, and maybe if I didn't live in the hot dessert, I would. But if I know I'll be gone for most of a day, I'll put the door back up…..it is that easy to do. You will not be disappointed. I have the happiest doggies on my street since installing the Freedom Aluminum Panel door to my slider this summer! It was so easy to install that my husband was really impressed! He didn't need a million tools or to cut ,shem shape or "jimmy" it in to place. I ordered the correct size and it literally fit like it was made for our sliding glass door. The weather is sealed out far better than I expected too. I'm planning on leaving this panel in as long as possible since I have several dogs. Even into winter! This has probably saved me a significant amount of money by not having to open and close the door & letting our air conditioned air out each time we let the dogs out. I'm glad I chose this Large door for my 25-27lb cockapoo. I originally tried the medium door and decided to change to the large due to him bumping his back if he ran thru the door too fast. The large door gives him extra space all around to move in and out as he pleases, but to be honest it doesn't seem like a whole heck of a lot more as I thought it would be. The pic had a golden retriever next to it, so I thought the large would be way too big, but it is not. We have an enclosed patio area so we don't get a breeze hitting the door flap at all, so the magnet is strong for us, once he runs in the flap securely magnetizes back in place. I didn't do any drilling or permanent attaching of the door since our patio area is on the 2nd floor I felt safe enough to not have it latch, I didn't want to alter the door frame at all. but it comes with all the hardware should you choose to do so. The weather stripping that comes with the tall 91"-96" door is too short and seems to be made for the shorter door, I emailed Petsafe and they gladly offered to mail me some more to complete the seam. I'm very pleased with this door. I live is San Diego where the temperature is pretty pleasant all year, so I can't attest to how it will serve in the cold and extremely hotter temps, but its perfect for my needs. I'm glad I finally made the purchase after debating for a couple years actually. It would've made life so much easier had I bought it a long time ago.RaeSD

It's functional – but takes away a good 4-6 inches in clearance space from the arcadia door. If you don't have a tremendously large arcadia sliding glass door – don't buy this. You're dog will have more room to get through the door than you do. Also, some of the pre-drilled holes weren't machined correctly and were too small for the screws that came with it. We had to drill them out a bit. Nothing huge, but could be very frustrating to someone who isn't handy with a drill/tools. The instructions could use some tweaking as well. The box comes with two (2) different sets of instructions. One looks to be a supplement to the other, and yet they don't cover all of the nuances. There's a third resource (YouTube video) to use as well – but that too doesn't warn you of perils should you attach the top half-backwards. Again, nothing huge and easy to realize/fix – but time consuming nonetheless. It's the little things like that "great" instructions benefit consumers. And the biggest peril – have two people! They show in the video and written manual a (presumed?) average housewife putting the door together. Mind you – this product is TOP HEAVY and mostly GLASS! You should have two people just for sheer safety sake when putting this together. The unit does work, but when the door is initially opened it kicks the opening side of the door up which forces the other side down, causing the teeth to not grab correctly which then makes a grinding noise. I'm afraid this will damage the teeth over time. Right now I have 5lb weight hanging from the door handle which prevents the kick up so it works the way it is intended.
