The double braid collar is flexible, not stiff like many other collars. The buckle is quite sturdy and good looking. The collar buckles easily without grommets, and is secure. The inside edges of the collar where it is "melted" together are constructed well without any sharp edges as I have found on other brands. The black, white, grey pattern looks great on our white Great Pyrenees. I buy these double braid collars for my puppies because they're infinitely adjustable. The prong from the buckle goes into the braid at any point for fine adjustments for rapidly growing puppies is possible. It is a very well made collar. I would have liked it to have a larger loop that creates the constriction. If it were larger the collar could be adjusted smaller to get the "choke" effect when the dog pulls. Because the loop is small, the collar has to be left loose to fit over the head. I won't buy anything else but these Country Brooks Martingale Collar with Double Handle Leash. They are extremely reliable and at an affordable price. Made with heavy duty nylon the anti slip collar is impossible for my dogs to escape from making it great for training and everyday use. I have to admit that I was very impressed with the quality of the Backcountry collar. The material is a thick rubber that is both soft and strong. It doesn't have the sticky feeling most rubber has (especially when wet) so it doesn't pull or rub on the hair. The inside of the collar gets a greasy film that builds up after a while of wearing, however, one of the best things about this collar is how easy it is to clean! Soap and water is all you need and it dries immediately so you don't have to wait to put it back on your pup. It has a durable clip and slides easily when adjusting it to size.Brittany

I’m writing this review after just realizing that I bought this product well over two years ago, and it still looks brand new! My water-loving golden has put this thing through what I can only describe as the world’s best torture test, and it looks the same as the day I bought it. Had high hopes and was kind of let down by the overall design. The loop thats used to pull out slack and get the right size for your dogs neck has no way of being flush to the shape of the collar. I want to give these a 5 star but I can’t for a few reasons. Pros and cons below… Pros: – quick shipping – overall quality is great, but what it’s made out of is not good; explained below. Cons: – product has rubbed my chocolate labs neck raw to the point of him having to be put on antibiotics. I’m not sure if it’s what the collar is made of, but it was bad. The collar was on loose, not tight, and my dog has not been in water due to the winter (so it’s not like this has something to do with it). Spent a good amount on this collar to have it end up costing me more for a vet bill. Veterinarian even said it’s likely WHAT the collar is made from is what caused the infection.

My overall experience with this collar is it looks great but not functional. I have 4 dogs and bought all 4 of them one. I have 2 young puppies that like to pull me on our walks and a rescue that also does the same. This collar doesn't work for them because it will begin to get loosen over time. I have to stop multiple times on the walks to tighten the collar only for the collar to loosen again. I also had 2 of my dogs almost run off because the collar wasn't tight. Good thing I could tackle them before they got too far. I love the looks and its very good for everyday around the house and backyard wear, but forget it when going on walks. I now use harnesses for my dogs because they give me more control so these collars for me are nothing more than a fancy collar to wear around the house. That's it. I bought this for my puppy to grow into because it's totally my style. He didn't mind it. But he was having an itch at the collar and some fur got trapped and he started to panic about it. It was difficult to get off while he was freaking out, not to mention it was just a stressful situation for him because it was something around his neck. This might still be a great collar if it ends up fitting perfeclty when he's older but maybe this wasn't for a puppy. To Ruffwear and the designers; I love your purpose, business functions, designs, materials and engineering. I still use and buy ruffwear products. This is just my experience with this particular product. I want to give it 4 stars for production quality and because ruffwear just makes good stuff but the 3 starts is so future puppy owners can see this. Will still reccomend, just not for puppies or for anyone who's dog might be in a situation where a collar may need to quickly come off.Ian

This is a very nice, attractive, well made collar. I would have given 5 stars except the website I ordered it from had a gliche and said the medium collar was out of stock. Unfortunately I was sent a small collar for a 54 pound dog which would not come close to fitting. I love the colors and the whole look of the collar and am very disappointed it doesn't fit. Would definitely recommend if you have the correct size.bgbsn55
My pup had a really utilitarian looking collar, but I wanted her to have something with a little more pizzaz. This collar is really stylish looking, but it is also well made. The places where the rope attach to the leather are stitched in a sturdy manner, and the metal hardware is nice and heavy. I ordered the large for my dog, but I may have been able to go with a medium. She's a 60 lb. Pitbull/ Shar-pei mix, and all her skin wrinkles cause me to have to be extra mindful about collars. She's not a puller, so I'm not worried about her yanking this off over her head. If your dog does use that escape maneuver, be sure to double check the measurements to ensure a snug fit. This is a high quality product. I can tell my dog feels fancy when she wears it. I like everything about it: the muted green and the stripey design, the quality materials, and the overall feel. Loved the look of this collar. Bought for my Weimaraner who is predominately indoors. Collar Collar started to unravel after 2 weeks of wear. Colored bands next to leather section are very fine thread wrapped around what appears to be cotton rope. This collar was used to hang tags only as rope was very soft and felt like it would lose shape with tension. Collar soiled quickly doesn’t appear to be treated for soil resistance. My remedy to salvage collar was to wrap heavier, course knotting cord used for making bracelets. This gave the collar the durability required for a med.to lg. dog. Still would not use with leash due to original core rope.Joyce129
