Is this item a replacement for the RFA-577 model? The button on the training collar wore out and will not turn on the module anymore. This product saved a pound pooch. We adopted a 2 year old schnoodle (schnauzer/poodle) from a shelter. He is smart, learns tricks and basic commands quickly (with treats), but he will ignore you when he doesn't feel like obeying. His biggest issue was diving out the door any time it was opened, and when he got outside, he would run off and not return until he was finished exploring (even when called). It only took a few "stimulations" to teach him to come back when called. It has also been useful in training our "cat-dog" to stay off tables. The unit has 15 intensity settings, and we normally only have to set it on 2 or 3 (when dealing with the outside run off problem, we had to turn it up to 7 one time.) Contrary to the product directions, we use the tone feature as a warning prior to "stimulation" as we also have an electronic fence for him that uses a tone to warn him to stay in the boundaries. Therefore, trying to use the tone on the training collar as positive reinforcement would have confused him. After only 2 weeks, 99% of the time, all we have to do anytime he is disobeying in anyway is give the warning tone. He has also learned not to wander too far from me when he is off the leash. He weighs 14 lbs and has a neck circumference of 10 inches. The collar fit fine after adjusting it and cutting off the excess. The receiver is also one of the smallest of all the brands/models we looked at. Our dog has also tested the waterproof feature, as he took a dive in a swamp yesterday. So far, the unit is still functioning. The unit does have to be charged daily, even with limited use.CritterLuvR2

I purchased this product on my brother's recommendation. I have 10 dogs and 14 guineas and only one of the dogs would kill our fowl. Was hesitant to get this b/c I wasn't sure it was humane. After talking to my vet, I felt comfortable making the purchase. IMMEDIATELY, my wonderful, yet poorly socialized Mini Schnauzer changed his ways. It only took a few zaps, and now he responds to tone only. I would NOT walk him b/c he would go spastic when we met other people and/or dogs — now, although he is still interested in them, I can hit the tone and he just keeps walking. Our boy cat Steven is mean to our other cats. He’ll stalk them and when they aren’t expecting it, he’ll attack them from behind, digging into their skin in their backsides with his claws and teeth. Occasionally Steven also walks around the house meowing incessantly. We really hoped this collar would help. Out of the package, it smells a little like lavender so I was pleased that the scent wasn’t obnoxious. I put it on Steven, who weighs around 14 pounds. The collar was too big but I was able to easily cut off about 3 inches so it would fit. I made the size so it was snug but so I could fit two fingers between his neck and the collar. After 5 days the collar disappeared. Steven is an indoor cat so it’s a mystery where it went. His regular collar stayed on though. So, I got this collar for my cat. I thought it would help calm. He gets excited when someone comes home after he has been home all day alone, which is understandable. I really wanted it to work. The description sounded very encouraging. Well, it didn’t work for my cat. To be fair, part of the reason it didn’t work was because my cat couldn’t stand the collar on him. It wouldn’t stop messing with it and trying to get it off of him. I left it on for about 5-7 minutes. If cats could talk, I think my cat would have said those were the longest 5-7 minutes ever. I just ordered another Large-Extra Large Caring Collar with Calming Disk from Pet Guys, my second Caring Collar for my 8-month German Shepherd to protect her surgery (spay) yesterday. The first collar, I used for my 2-year-4-month-old German Shepherd was when she was spayed at 10 months old. GSDs are usually very strong dogs that tend to struggle with anything put around their necks or mouths. But Caring Collar makes it easier and diminishes such struggle when putting the Caring Collar on and off around the dog's neck, unlike the plastic e-collar, which to me was so difficult and a great struggle. When I used the plastic e-collar on my first GSD at 10 months old, she banged the e-collar against her crate, managed to partially get it off and chewed it. It took a lot of sweat and difficult time for me to mend it and put it back on her neck. So, I had to go back to the pet shop to buy a new one, until I saw Caring Collar. My dog recently had surgery on his paw and he unfortunately kept licking his surgery spot. We went to Petsmart to look at cones and they had the plastic ones that looked so uncomfortable and this. This was pretty pricey but opted to go with it for the comfort etc. Although he hated it it served its purpose! He could still lay down, eat and drink with it on. I adopted a very nervous and scared adult dog who constantly scratched and bit herself. I took her to the vet who declared her physically healthy and recommended calming dog biscuits or Benadryl on days she was especially nervous. There was little improvement I saw comments on rescue dog social media sites about using Adaptil as an alternative to what I had been doing. I tried Adaptil and within less than a week I saw a marked difference. She is calmer now, no habitual scratching or biting, settles down peacefully during naps, and is a much happier dog. I'll first start by saying I never do reviews. However I was at my wits end with our nine month old chiweenie. I thought my husband was going to kill me and the dog…and I was praying my neighbors did not have guns because this little 8 pound cutie barked like a 100 lb squealing pig at anything and everything! Previous to this device I tried the citronella collar and the ultrasonic remote. Neither phased her. I will say on day one I thought this thing was a piece of junk. I called pet safe and learned that the collar needs to be tightly fitted on the dogs neck or it will not work. After adjusting the collar and I was still on the phone with the representative my Daisy girl went outside and I witnessed it working immediately. We still have some light barking which I imagine occurs before the strengthened static but it is completely manageable. I will say after reading the reviews we have lucked out with the battery… It has been in use with an aggressive Barker for a month and still has not needed to be replaced. Our only downside is that the collar is bulky… I take it off when she comes inside. If I do forget to put it on when she goes outside she will bark up a storm again! I bought two Basic Static Bark collars to help alleviate my puggle's and beagle's separation anxiety barking when we are not at home. The collars are fitted properly and in accordance with instructions and the batteries are working, yet BOTH dogs continue to bark. The biggest problem is that both collars tend to move to one side of the dogs' necks, so the dogs are probably not receiving the static correction. The directions state to "REPOSITION THE COLLAR ON THE PET'S NECK EVERY 1 TO 2 HOURS.." Obviously, if we are not home, this is impossible to do. I wasted almost $100 on collars that do not work on either dog. Petsafe customer service recommended that I should purchase the more expensive Deluxe Petsafe Collar. No thanks. I bought this about a week ago after I received a complaint from a neighbor and was given a warning from our HOA for disturbance. We had just moved in about a month ago and didnt want to make enemies. My dog barks at everything. From shadows, birds to airplanes. I decided to give this a try. I was skeptical and thought for sure this wouldn't work. I put it on my dog and let him loose in the backyard. Sure enough he barked once and to my surprise, stopped! Our new pup now almost 1 1/2 years old, was a barking machine. Hard to control or stop. We got this hoping that would help and it has. Our dog has a LOT of fur and it was hard to get contact but when that issue was resolved we noticed the barking decreased within a day or two. When we took off the collar, there was a tendency for our dog to ramp up again but once it was back on, the excess barking stopped. The dog has now figured out, collar on, no barking. Collar off, barking some is ok. Hopefully that goes away with time. Next we need to work on whining, sigh…Mossman1
The PetSafe Bark Collar has been a tremendous help with our Australian Shepard who loved to bark at anything and everything from dusk until dawn. We put the collar on right away and it started working immediately for him. It doesn't seem to hurt him at all. I think it startled him more than anything but he is fine. We are able to take him on walks now and to the park . The kids are not scared of him anymore and we can actually talk to each other calmly without having to get frustrated trying to talk over his barking. I read all the reviews on a lot of bark collars and the PetSafe Barking Collar – PBC17-16635 by far had the best reviews. After talking with my husband we decided to purchase. Once received we read the instruction manual and did as it said but no matter what we did nothing was working. I emailed and Jason sent through a video lnk which gave us more of a clearer understanding of what to do. Upon following those instructions I cant fault it. Our lab/retriever cross became frightened of loud noises, using the collar has steadily improved the situation. It doesn't work immediately, be patient for a week or even two. A noise de-sensitisation CD (follow the instructions exactly) will also help considerably. Just check the tightness of the collar every few days because some dogs will scratch at it and can occasionally loosen it slightly – when cutting off the excess length leave an inch so that it doesn't fall off if the dog does scratch at it (they soon stop).Nicholas J
Very pleased with this product and seems to have calmed my anxious dog prior to Bonfire night. My only niggle is that the small collar was too small for my dog but the large is too big. Our 16 year old terrier became terrified of the car about a year ago – hyperventilating, fighting to get out – heartbreaking and we couldn't take her any further than our dogminders so we could go out on business. We bought the Adaptil collar about 3 weeks ago and she is far less frightened. Sits fairly comfortably without 'twitching' and doesn't fight to get out when the door is opened. This collar really does work. Ive had a problem with my French Bulldog continuously barking when he is in the garden, he would bark at anything that flew over, birds, butterflies and even aeroplanes. He would bark if he heard another dog or if my snobby neighbours sat in their garden talking or eating and talking to their dog but completely ignoring mine, all of my other neighbours love him to bits and talk to him over the fence. Anyway Ive tried whistles and clickers and of course vocally training him with no joy, a very stubborn breed! But from the second I put the collar on him it has reduced his barking by at least 75% Its well made and doesnt hurt your dog at all, it fits well with a good amount of adjustment and it comes with 3 different colour inserts a battery and a spare battery! This is the 1st review i have ever written, but just had to tell everyone how brilliant this product is! Stopped my working cocker barking virtually instantly! He would bark constantly until he was given his ball or a treat, whichever he wanted at the time! Had tried lots of different approaches, but nothing worked. I purchased two of these as have two noisy schnauzers. One of the dogs is nervous so reacted quickly to the beeps and vibration as disliked it. The other just barks at everyone! So on wearing the collars, the nervous yappy one … would make little noise but not dare bark. The older dog who barks at everyone, became silent – tried it on her in the garden and she became very quiet. So, on wearing to the park… wow…. it was bliss, nice quiet walk.
