I thought my husband was going to kill me and the dog…and I was praying my neighbors did not have guns because this little 8 pound cutie barked like a 100 lb squealing pig at anything and everything! Previous to this device I tried the citronella collar and the ultrasonic remote. Neither phased her. I will say on day one I thought this thing was a piece of junk. I called pet safe and learned that the collar needs to be tightly fitted on the dogs neck or it will not work. After adjusting the collar and I was still on the phone with the representative my Daisy girl went outside and I witnessed it working immediately. We still have some light barking which I imagine occurs before the strengthened static but it is completely manageable. I will say after reading the reviews we have lucked out with the battery… It has been in use with an aggressive Barker for a month and still has not needed to be replaced. Our only downside is that the collar is bulky… I take it off when she comes inside. If I do forget to put it on when she goes outside she will bark up a storm again! I bought two Basic Static Bark collars to help alleviate my puggle's and beagle's separation anxiety barking when we are not at home. The collars are fitted properly and in accordance with instructions and the batteries are working, yet BOTH dogs continue to bark. The biggest problem is that both collars tend to move to one side of the dogs' necks, so the dogs are probably not receiving the static correction. The directions state to "REPOSITION THE COLLAR ON THE PET'S NECK EVERY 1 TO 2 HOURS.." Obviously, if we are not home, this is impossible to do. I wasted almost $100 on collars that do not work on either dog. Petsafe customer service recommended that I should purchase the more expensive Deluxe Petsafe Collar. No thanks. I bought this about a week ago after I received a complaint from a neighbor and was given a warning from our HOA for disturbance. We had just moved in about a month ago and didnt want to make enemies. My dog barks at everything. From shadows, birds to airplanes. I decided to give this a try. We have a Labrador and we noticed a sudden change in her behaviour when we moved house. 5am pedestrians and dog walkers and foxes passing by would set her off and we’d often have to get out of bed to give positive reinforcement or bring her inside. In the beginning, I purchased the the Petsafe Basic Bark Control Collar – PBC19-10765. It came with free Replacement Batteries and I purchased an extra pack to save on future postage. Initially, our Labrador responded quickly and barking reduced, however, I don’t believe this was the correct unit for our girl. Her irritability and persistent barking returned to full on annoyance after about four weeks. We replaced the first two complementary batteries, every 4-6 weeks and by August, I purchased 2 replacement Petsafe Red Nylon Straps, as they deteriorate and become too loose. Exactly what i was after Only ever have had to use it on level 2 and it has shocked my dog maybe twice and she doesn’t really bark much at all anymore. I only have to put it on every now and again if she gets barky again but it’s made an amazing difference in our home. This was a great humane alternative to a shock collar. The two power modes are nice, and the sensitivity setting is a great way to dial in the type of noise that is acceptable. The device comes pre-set at a softer setting of four, so there is no danger of a rough response during setup. Dialing it up to a six or seven captures our vocal pop's range well. The collar material itself is well made, and there is plenty of extra strap to expand as your dog's neck size grows larger. The device and collar mount are sturdy and hold up to a fair amount of wear and tear. The buttons are durable and easy to locate, and the text helps you distinguish between them clearly. The display is large and brightly lit. The rubber prongs and replacement metal vibrating pieces appear to be well made, and the replacement process seems to be easy to do if necessary. The wrench included in the kit makes the process simple to perform. I have a toy breed rescue who was probably put up for adoption because of barking. I’ve had a lot of dogs over the years but holy moly this one is noisy! She barks at everything or nothing, and once she starts she won’t stop. Barks herself into a frenzy, racing back and forth, makes screaming sounds, it’s horrible. She’ll keep going for 30 minutes if nothing distracts her from the bark-frenzy. Training and calming techniques that have worked with all my other dogs (including several older rescues) didn’t work for her. And I don’t want to medicate her. So I bought this collar and tested it on my own neck. It’s a gentle vibration. No shock whatsoever. None. Zero. Not painful or uncomfortable. Like a cell phone vibrating in your pocket. It’s just enough of a sensation to divert her attention. She can bark a few times before it triggers, so it doesn’t vibrate for normal barking. Like if someone is at the door, I expect the dogs to give a few barks and that’s fine. This just stops the bark-binges. Once she gets her little “reminder”, she looks around like “Huh? What was that?”, then she hops onto the sofa and lays down, relaxed and peaceful. I like how small and lightweight it is, as she’s only about 12lbs It’s simple to use. No weird digital display. It came in a timely manner. Directions were OK. It took several overnight charges for the beep to sound when tested, although I've never heard it while the dog is wearing the collar. We adjusted the collar several times, making it tighter each time. This dog is an older SPCA shelter dog, so we don't know his background. He has cataracts and is hard of hearing, so he barks at shadows and vehicle engine sounds that we don't always hear. The instructions are easy to follow and the collars are adjustable so they can be for large or small dogs. The clip makes it easy for putting the collar on and off. You are supposed to give your dog a break from these around their neck like any of other training collar. My dogs all I need is the beep and the vibration options but it does have a shock option as well and the vibration and shock are adjustable.
