I receive the item and the box was in good condition. Upon opening the item there were 8 pieces. 4 walls, the top and 3 pieces that make up the floor. 3 of the 4 walls were split by screws that were inserted on the pre-fabricated panels. I took pieces and sent them to customer service. I believe this was done before being boxed up to ship. Although I was offered a discount for the damaged item I don't believe it would last as the floor did not attach but rested on the ledge of the sides. When my dog stepped into the dog house the first time 1 of the 3 pieces that make up the floor flipped up. It is nice looking but the wood is very cheap. I would not recommend buying.Unhappy Customer

I expected better of this outdoor doghouse, especially for the price. It is made of "fir wood" which isn't a hardwood at all. Pine would have been sturdier. Assembly was easy but the house itself flimsy, with several of the pre-fab section not even nailed or glued together, and some pieces with parts of the wood broken off. Even in the "giant" size it was barely large enough for a 90lb GSD. The feet were plastic and the floor slated wood were the elements can creep through. This house is advertised as ideal for outdoor use – but I wouldn't trust it during a New England winter. It was sent back immediately. I would NOT recommend this manufacturer for outdoor dog houses. For less money you could build a better one out of more durable wood.Razor

I just opened my Small size Precision Pet Extreme Log Cabin doghouse today to assemble. It looks like it will assemble pretty well, although one of the sides is 3/16" out of square. Because the panels are firmly glued and screwed together it will require some adjustment/trimming to assemble correctly instead of attempting to break the glue joints and true it up. Obviously a rush job by the factory in Wuhan. The roof shingles do appear to be very well sealed and bonded together, however there are a few spots on the edges of the composition shingles on the roof where bare wood can be seen at the edges, which would allow water to get into the roof frame, so those spots will have to be sealed. The three piece floor has 1/8" gaps between the slats, so if you want the animal occupying the box to be comfortable when it is cold and windy, you will have to do some modification to the floor, which I plan on doing. The statement that the box is waterproof and weather resistant is a stretch. The stain/preservative used on all of the wood surface is so thin that pouring any water at all on the wood surface disappears as the wood instantly absorbs it. I will not put the box in service until at least 2 coats of a high quality exterior grade paint/stain is applied. If you try and use this box without putting a proper preservative coat on it, you might get one year of use out of it before it rots or suffers UV damage and cracks and splits. This doghouse is being re-purposed by me to be a Barn Owl nest box; the dimensions are almost perfect and as soon as I saw it I realized that it could be used for quick installation during the brief annual window between December to January during which Barn Owls are NOT in their box. All I really have to do is put an insert into the door to reduce the opening size, add a perch/balcony outside the opening, fix the floor, and of course, properly seal the wood so that it will last more than one season. My primary reason for paying the extra money for the "EXTREME" model was the feature description that said: Its stainless steel hardware also adds to its sturdiness. THIS IS A LIE! THE HARDWARE SUPPLIED IS NOT STAINLESS STEEL, so this is my major gripe. My guess is that China figures that most Americans can't tell the difference between stainless and non-stainless steel. I'm a retired engineer, and you can almost always identify stainless/non-stainless steel by its color and appearance, although the surefire test is with a magnet. Regular steel will be strongly attracted by a magnet, if it is stainless steel, you might get a very slight attraction. This stuff is definitely normal steel with maybe a thin coat of zinc – not stainless steel. I bought this as a shelter for when my house dogs were outside. I did not want to spend a lot of money because a) I didn't know if they would use it, and b) I didn't know if they would simply destroy it. The doghouse was slightly damaged in the case, but not enough to warrant the inconvenience of returning it. It is holding up okay, but is not really solid. The roof is held on with just four screws. The sides are thin. If your dogs are determined chewers this is not going to last. If your dogs are primarily kept outside and need a good shelter against the weather, look elsewhere.Gone 2 the dogs

Ordered online and pick up in store which made it so easy since not too many places ship to Hawaii. It was easy to assemble – had my teenage sons do it. Perfect size for my labrador puppy with enough space for him to grow in to. He went right in and took his toys inside. Happy with purchase and will by another one for my other dog.GW3k

I have this on my back porch away from the elements. It's been 6 months and it's still sturdy but I can't get either of my dogs to go INSIDE this dog house. I've made it comfy with dog mats and blankets but they still refuse. I put treats and food inside and that only got the attention of a baby skunk and a opossum (both of which LOVED the house!). My dogs simply use it as a perch to watch over the back yard. Combined they're a little shy of 80 lbs, so the roof holds very well!JaeDean

This dog house is made of light-weight balsam-type wood. The floor comes in 3 separate pieces and just lays in. The large house only lasted 2 months before 2 of the 3 floor pieces splintered and fell apart under my 80lb dog. I checked the splinters over carefully for chew marks (although he'd never chewed any part of the house) and wasn't able to find any. I only found very flimsy, tiny screws that I was surprised lasted as long as they did. Bottom line is this dog house is VERY poor construction. A complete waste of $125.HBelll

Bought this for our 7 month old Pyrador puppy, who has already outgrown one house. It was easy to put together, and the sturdist dog house we've ever seen. Plus being insulated is perfect for a cold Indiana winter. She's huge and still growing and loves it. The first night she slept in front of it despite dog treats inside. Second night was cooler, she decided to check it out so the head and front paws went thru the swinging door first, and after she had stood that way for about 5 minutes, walked all the way in, and has loved it ever since. From the size if it unless she grows as much as Clifford the big red dog, she'll get to enjoy for a lifetime.PJ

We got this house for a new Boxador puppy so that it can spend most of its time outside. We found it to be a good product. It was easy to put together and does stay much warmer than the outside air. In rainy weather, it stays dry. It is a very large house which would work for a lab or other large dog. No problems with the dog using the door. Only suggestion: add nuts and bolts for the 6 screws. Screwing metal into plastic is not a real good plan. I'm assuming the company will have replacement parts (door, window, etc…) available for my investment!Y Robinson

I ordered a couple of these houses for my outdoor cats. They were easy to put together, but each house had a wood piece that was broke and I had to "gorilla glue" them together. Luckily the broken pieces of wood were in places that were not detrimental in keeping the house together. I thought about calling Hayneedle for replacements or something, but the houses have managed to stay together with the glued broken wood pieces, so I didn't bother.Cynthia

I purchased this dog house because its dimensions matched perfectly a concrete slab off of my back porch. I set it up about 3 weeks ago. Since then some of the vertical roof panels have buckled at the seems with the other vertical panels. It is exposed to sun from about noon & we had a light drizzle a few nights ago. I wonder if it will last through the winter as snow will accumulate on its roof & the wood is exceptionally light? My dog loves it, & like I said, it is a perfect fit off the back porch. I'm very happy with it, but fear the wood is too light to expect it to last maybe even through this winter. Sadly.Lucy

I bought the medium size house. It was very easy to put together, perfect size, puppy jumped right in and it looks great! I was really excited about it! The first night it was outside though it rained lightly and the next morning I discovered the roof had buckled up- very disappointing since it's an outside dog house so this should definitely not have happened! For this reason I don't recommend this particular dog house. But I do recommend Hayneedle! Their customer service is awesome, responds quickly and is very helpful!Danielle

I bought this for my cats. They love it. 4 cats can sleep very comfortably in this. This is my 3rd dog house I have bought for the barn farm cats. PS. They also have the whole barn to their selves but they love being up at the house. Yes all 15 barn farm cats are spoiledShivy

It's a good looking well built house! Bought this for a friends daughter's dog (Shih Tzu). They put it together with ease! After about a day, the dog was comfortable going in the house. But when you let down the plastic strips that is used as the door, the dog wouldn't come out or go back in when outside. So for now they leave the plastic door open until he gets used to it! And he will get used to it! But the dog does like the house. Suggestion: It's a good idea if you put a small bed or equilvelent inside the house to make it more comfortable. Especially that winter months are coming! Can't say how duable it is since it was only purchased a few weeks ago, but it seems to be.Roadrunner

I bought this dog house door for a chicken coop, actually, and it is EXACTLY what I needed. It provides a way to keep the heat inside the coop without a solid door that I have to continuously open and close. The chickens figured it out quickly, and it is VERY durable. I got this doghouse for my two, 4 pound toy poodles. I got it not for them to live in, but as a fun place for them to go while playing outside (sort of like a puppy playhouse). It is perfect size to fit both of them. It is thick, sturdy wood and is excellent quality. Assembly was easy, took about 30 minutes by myself, with just a screwdriver. I got the small doghouse and didn't need any assistance at all with holding it together or anything during assembly (which was my biggest concern before purchase). I also purchased the separate dog door and insulation, and those were extremely easy to incorporate. It is very good looking and I am proud to have it in my yard. My only problem is getting my puppies to use it. They do not yet see it as a playhouse. I'm going to put treats, food, and toys inside and see if they will start going in. It was difficult to snap the pieces together and you have to have another person to help. Its very thin plastic, not like a Little Tykes product. Im afraid when it rains, it will pour through the roof because of the way the plastic barely snaps together and with little overlapping. My dog jumps in and out a lot and the floor and house will not last!!!bootytree

I opened up the box to find a very flimsy doghouse. It was very difficult to get the bottom pieces together and then when I finally was able to get them puzzle together later fell apart when my dog stepped on the inside of it. Definitely not thick enough plastic to hold any animal of any size I ordered The large dog house and there was no large dog that would ever be able to stay in that house. Very disappointing!yabut65

I was skeptical at first because it just snaps together however once together it is durable. Im not using this for dogs so I cant say how a large dog would do. I am using it for 2 Flemish giants. I love the door flaps to protect from weather. It is large. I would say a large golden retriever could go In stretch, stand and move around with ease.ivysa_78

I just got my dog house all set up and wow! It’s great! While my 50lb border collie is a little hesitant of it, I think he will grow accustomed to it! Assembly was not too hard and only took about an hour and a half, I liked the slide and lock mechanics of connecting the walls. The divider wall, heater mount, and hydraulic lid are great features. It is a pretty large dog house but I have a large dog so it is needed, it gives him room to turn around and lay down however he likes. Thanks lifetime!Jordo

This dog house is actually big enough to fit both of our dogs. It took about an hour and 15 minutes for my husband to put it together. The item is super sturdy but light enough that he could carry it and reposition it without any help. The top locks down and easily opens up for us to be able to put their bed in. I love the fact that there is a place to put a space heater for the times they need to stay out for a bit. We’ve had a doghouse before and it just didn’t hold up well after being out in the weather. Lifetime makes such great products that hold up season after season and I know this will be great just like our deck box.Cj C

This dog house was sent to me by Lifetime products to review and I have nothing but good things to say. This dog house is extremely nice quality and over all easy to build. I absolutely love that the roof is an easy to open lid that can be used when you're cleaning it out or needing to check inside. It's big enough to fit my 35 lb dog's bed in there and still have room for other things. The middle panel is removable which I absolutely love. Though I believe I could've built this on my own, having another person helped the building process even easier. Some of the pieces are heavy and big so it helped having another person being able to hold the other end. With 2 people it took us about 2 hours to put it all together. Tools are a must for building, I recommend having a drill and a socket wrench. I highly recommend watching the YouTube videos, they're easy to follow along and are a great visual. Everything is labeled and organized and written down in the instructions that come with the product. The written instructions come in handy when you need to know what items to use in each step. I absolutely love the quality that Lifetime brings to all of their products and the dog house is no exception to this.Madi

I just got this dog house and paid somebody to put it together. Only to find out that it is not extra large. I would consider it medium size. Won’t even fit my lab mix. The flooring and it is also raised and does not feel super sturdy. I would say this house in the size ‘extra large’ is for a 45 pounds and under dog. Will be returning. Very cute though.Aspensdogmom

We were looking for a dog house for our 75 lb German Shepherd & we wanted one he would continue to grow into. This fit the bill. Product arrived quickly and un damaged. Set up was painless and easy. Opening is big enough for him & plenty of room to plop down inside. In less than a year he did break one of the roof attachment rails. Working with New Age Pet wasn't a bad experience and the replacement parts arrived quickly enough. I wish the roof attachment rails were not plastic & were metal to withstand a bit more doggy & wind abuse. But other than that no complaints.CaptainCaveman78

I was looking for a dog house for my two dogs (one 50 lbs the other 60 lbs) to share. I am very happy with this dog house. It's not made out of flimsy wood like a lot of the other houses I looked at. The corrugated ecoflex material is very sturdy and this house is very simple to put together. Each piece is numbered and laying the pieces out in ascending order makes putting this house together a breeze. My dogs fit just fine inside the house and they'll be able to keep each other warm this winter. They are medium sized dogs so they're not very tall, if this house were to be purchased for a large breed the buyer MAY find this house to be too short. ex. A great dane would NOT be able to stand up and turn around in it. I've only had his house for a few weeks so I can not comment on the longevity of this product. The only downfall I've noticed so far is that it does get a little wet on the inside when it rains, I believe they make a plastic flap that can go over the door to help eliminate this problem, I just haven't looked into it yet. Product looked great online, had all the features for our 2 small dogs (Corgi/Jack Russel mix – 20 lbs. each) to share a large size house. We also bought the insulation liner (great product as well). House was easy set-up with one screwdriver, pre-drilled holes lined up perfectly. All parts were pre-cut to the right specs, and very decent quality. The unit is very study when put together. We put one of their dog beds in for added comfort – they love it. It took less than a day before they had their sleeping and hanging out arrangements figured out, plenty of room for both. I purchased one of these after trying one of the hard plastic barn-type dog houses without success. Either my dogs didn't like the plastic, or were afraid of the smallish entry, so even though they are only 50 & 70 lbs, I went with the XL size. After getting them used to the dog house by tossing a few treats into the back of it, they seemed to not mind this one. A few days later, I heard a ruckus in the back yard, and upon investigation, I found that my dogs were fighting over who got to sit in the dog house, thus forcing me to purchase a second one just to keep them happy. I also placed an outdoor carpet square in each dog house for padding. This dog house is easy to assemble and looks nice. However, the floor pieces are not secured with screws so I can hear them rattling a little when the dogs climb in and out. Leaving the pieces as they are will allow me to turn the dog house on its side for easier access while cleaning, but I may just screw the floor pieces down anyway. Also, the packaging tends to leave the roof ridge cap vulnerable to breakage during shipping. Called the company for a free replacement and am waiting for the part to arrive.oblvios

Great product. Easy assembly. Looks great. My dog loves it. Hes a english bulldog and french bulldog mix. Med door opening 16in high. Plenty of room inside. Took me 20 to 30 mins to put together. Overall excellent experience.Bertski209
